Day 3: Favorite Single

Sorry if I'm late for a few days on this one HAHAHAHAHAHA school just got in the way again grrrrrrrrr... btw, I just edited this because I confused the "single" with the "music video". So as for my favorite single, it would be Angst.

I'm not a fan of this music video because I don't like how it was edited. But one thing that I loved about Angst that makes it remarkable for me is the imagery and ofc, its storyline.

Watching the music video and reading the translated lyrics made me smile because finally, there's a Rammstein song that I can relate to HAHAHAHAHAHA

if you ever wanna continue reading, here's a reminder that this is a very long post and it mostly contains politics.

3 months before the release of the music video was our presidential election. In case you didn't know, Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. was our current president. He was the son of our former dictator Ferdinand Marcos Sr. Thanks to the machinery and the historical distortion that was created by his family, he won the election.

Decades after EDSA Revolution, the Marcoses were already plotting and making advances on how they will change the image of their family. Little by little, each one in their clan is starting to gain a seat in the government until they start ruling Ilocos Norte again.

The historical distortion became prevalent in the last 2016 election. People were starting to paint Ferdinand Marcos as a hero who uses dictatorship to protect the country from insurgents and to instill discipline in the Filipinos. There was also false information spreading around on Facebook during those times about Marcos's alleged credentials. A lot of shit was going around during those times that helped the popularity of Bongbong Marcos to rise. Because of the disinformation, many people looked up to him, hoping that he was as "intelligent" as his father.

Just like how it was portrayed in the music video, the cheerleaders reminded me of the admins on those Facebook pages who were posting false information to lift up the Marcoses. Fast forward to now, some of their critics became their supporters and many people voted for him to be our president. I know that there's machinery involved there, but I can't deny the fact that he has lots of supporters.

During the recent election period, people were too busy scrolling on their social media, reading the posts about the presidential candidates. They were too absorbed with the content they were watching and reading, to the point that they believed everything that is posted there. That is why I literally face-palmed myself at the part in the music video where the band is facing the monitor screen because it reminded me of what happened during the campaign period.

While some people need to be held accountable for not being responsible enough in checking the information they're consuming, we can't blame those who are too tired from their responsibilities in real life to even fact-check the information they're reading.

So what was the aftermath of that election?? Well, a few weeks after Marcos was elected, my classmates and I were paranoid about our safety that's why we decided to create a group chat in Telegram for a while. When our fear and paranoia subsides, we transferred back to Messenger again.

I was hoping that it will be the last time I'll experience that kind of paranoia. But just a few weeks ago, some people from a certain university suspected that there were intelligence officers disguised as civilians who were roaming around the campus. I don't know what their reasons are, but the only reason that I could think of as of now is that they're searching for people who are activists and members of NatDem organizations.

I guess I gotta thank my meds for helping me not to be anxious about the political issues, and I honestly think that I'm already numb from all the shits happening here.

you know, i think sam does often just throw out chaotic comments he thought up on the fly while he's playing, especially when he's revisiting veth in her post-canon appearances, but i also think sam is very much the kind of player to roll with what he says and make concrete character beats out of them afterward. he did this during the main campaign with veth's fear of water--that was just a bit played for jokes initially that he decided had some meat to it and asked to incorporate it into her backstory, which he did very well and to great effect. so i think when he says something lowkey insane in the post-canon oneshots etc., i always have that in mind. like yeah, there's a high likelihood that he just thought this insane thing up in the moment with no pre-planning, but it also does not mean that it can't be a significant thing he may focus on in the future. absolute crap shot with this guy (affectionate). leaves a lot of character possibilities open, though

Grian can taste Death.

The metallic, cast-iron taste of Death, lingering in the back of his throat. The schizophrenic visions of Death, in the corners of his eyes, flickering like static.

Death follows Grian, like the last thing that’ll stay with him. His friends can get sick of him, his enemies can disappear, but Death, Death remains. And Death is out for him.

He can’t let his friends help; can’t let them get in the way. This fight is between him and the End, only. So, no, he won’t let Scar save him. And no, he won’t let Scar run off, like he’s trying to right now.

They’ve been keeping their distance from each other over the past few days, but Grian can tell when Scar’s planning something. He’s been unpacking less and less, when they settle down to sleep. His agreements to Grian’s plans have been more and more reluctant.

So, yeah, okay, Grian’s been hard on Scar recently. But Scar doesn’t get it. 

Ever since that incident, with the creeper, he’s kept his guard up. He can’t let him go down to red. And, okay, maybe shouting at him and calling him useless isn’t the bast way to do that. But- If Grian doesn’t save him, doesn’t tell him what to do, he knows that Scar will die. 

And he cannot let Scar die. Not again.

So cannot let Scar run off, like Grian knows he’s trying to.

He tries to confront him, when they’re settling down to sleep, in the dirt house. 

Hiding behind his wings, Grian shares across at Scar. The wide, jagged lines of burns raise the skin over his face, distorting his eyes. He’s staring up at the stars. 

“Are you going to leave?” The words startle Scar out of his stupor, and he looks across to where Grian’s laying on top of his sheets.

“What do you mean?”

“I’ve seen you, these past few days. Since that creeper. You’ve been unpacking less and less.”

“That doesn’t mean I’m going to leave.”

“Well, what- what about the way I acted? The way I was, with you. After. Didn’t you think- you’d be better off alone?’

“No.”

Grian tenses. He watches Scar’s eyebrows knit together.

“Is this your way of trying to apologise? Because it’s not working.”

“I just-“

“I’m not leaving, Grian. What do you want me to say?”

“Well-“

“That you’ve been acting like a dick? That you haven’t been taking my feelings into account? That your brashness hasn’t just jeopardised me, but both of us? I know this is stressful and I know it’s scary, but we have to work together on this. There’s nobody else we can turn to. So no, I’m not going to leave you. And you’ve got to stop thinking like that.”

Scar’s breathing heavily, now. His voice is raised. They both turn towards the door, and watch for something to happen. And then he sees it. 

The shriek. The death call. 

The darkness.

they were simply people writing a show in the latter half of the 1990s, and writing a lesbian couple then is hardly the same as writing one now - or fifteen years after voyager concluded

would it have been amazing, brave, progressive, and very much in line with star trek's general message? of course. would it have helped an already struggling scifi show in late-90s america? highly doubtful

Finding myself bored this evening, I will do a completely useless analysis no one asked for in this longish post. Since this show will never leave me alone and neither will my years long obsession with old ocean liners (especially the ones laying at the bottom of the ocean), here it is:

I don't know how it is today (the new cruise ships are no longer a thing of beauty to me, even though I've seen a similar thing there too), but at the time, every steamship company had its color displayed on the ship's funnels. We had major rivial companies such as Cunard Line, White Star Line, and Norddeutscher Lloyd.

Cunard Line ships had their familiar mostly dark red funnels with a black top.

White Star Line ships' funnels were yellowish with the black top.

And we also have the example of Norddeutscher Lloyd ships having full yellow funnels.

Now, these colors were there so that you could tell the difference, aka which company does a certain ship belong to (among other things such as design, call sign, etc), unless it's painted in dark gray or black war colors or as hospital ships.

Now, I don't know if Bo and Jantje or other people involved in the show went that deep into all of this, but the show doesn't follow these rules. Here, we have Prometheus and Kerberos belonging to the same company, but having different colored funnels. Kerberos red and Prometheus yellow. You can clearly see it in multiple shots, like the archive or the poster itself, and there's also a sketch:

You can see the real examples in history, such as the White Star Line: Titanic and Olympic (yellow with black top)

Cunard Line: Lusitania and Mauretania (this is particularly interesting because it was said by the people involved in the show that Kerberos was based off of Lusitania) red with black top

Or Norddeutscher Lloyd: Kaiser Wilhelm der Grosse (all yellow)

So, looking at the show following these rules, it would suggest Prometheus and Kerberos did not operate for the same company. But it's obvious those rules do not apply in the show, and I don't think the reason for that was that the showrunners didn't care, know, or find it relevant, I think it's simply because it was important for the audience to see the difference between these two ships. The difference is quite obvious when the Prometheus was found, since it was all dark and only floating, while the Kerberos was fully operating. On the other hand, in the graveyard, aka the archive, without the different funnels, it's impossible to tell the difference. I am convinced that the difference between them is very, very important for the plot. I have already written about that, so I will not repeat myself. Anyway, enough with the useless trivia.

talking to a friend about getting back into art and i think the #1 most important piece of art advice i could ever get or give is just "figure out what is FUN to you"

like i think there is sooooo much emphasis on how to build SKILL in art but a lot of it really treats art like a job or like video game grinding, like it's this thankless job that you have to work at in order to reach a Threshold and i know it's not EASY to make yourself have fun but like

imo a solid 70% of the reason i create art is because the Act of Drawing is fun to me. it's fun problem-solving and planning and putting down lines and playing with colors and tools. it's fun to depict little scenes in my head or to create outfits or to find ways to fill the canvas. never forget that creating can be fun. sometimes it's hard and sometimes you have to battle through your own blockades to get there but the ultimate goal should always be to ENJOY it, to find what you enjoy doing and then do it forever. improvement will follow enjoyment.

i think especially with all the debate about ML image generation it's more important than ever to embrace FUN. if you're only focused on the end result it's so easy to get in your own head- to think about what doesn't look good or what skills you don't have yet or to compare yourself to other artists. but photography didn't kill the art of drawing and AI won't either because, simply put, there will always be people who want to do the physical act of making art because it's fun to do! using paints and markers, splashing colors around, doing shitty pen doodles, using the symmetry tool in your art program to do abstract mandalas that are just squiggles formed into patterns. do art like you're 5 and you've been handed markers to pass the time. do art like you're bored in class and you're keeping your brain entertained by drawing stick figure comics in the margins. do art like an absent thing, do art because it satisfies your brain. the goal is not to make something beautiful and perfect, the goal is to make something because your hands need to make and your body needs to make.

Regarding the recent post:

Killer Queen is too short ranged of a stand to affect most sleuths and it's not in Kira's character to drop Sheer Heart Attack at the police departament and hope.

Kira generally doesn't have many ways to deal with characters that: Work in teams. Work from far away. Have any sort of records showing that they're invastigating him.

The man had to be bailed out by Bites the Dust and still lost Most sleuths wouldn't even let Kira get away for long enough for him to aquire Bites the Dust so that's not even something to consider in most of these cases.

{But you're really ignoring one thing: It can't be detected by anyone but Stand Users. Why would they think they needed to investigate Yoshikage Kira specifically? There's no evidence of the killings, since in canon, even the police didn't try to investigate the mysterious disappearances. The sleuths would mostly not be able to understand that Killer Queen exists, and even if they assumed it was something supernatural, there's still no evidence. And the man managed to impersonate another man in front of his family, landlord, coworkers, and everyone who may have talked to Kosaku on the street, with only the man's child catching on. Had Hayato never thought to set up a camera in his parents' room, Kira would have never been caught at all. And Kira doing poorly against teams of people investigating him doesn't line up when he's gotten away from them twice (he would have escaped Jotaro and Koichi were it not for Act III, and he did escape the entire Duwang Gang when they were chasing him by severing his own hand), plus managing to keep his identity secret from EVERYONE except Hayato until the kid figured out how to use the time-loop to his advantage. You're right that most of the time Killer Queen wouldn't get to Bites the Dust, but it would be because Kira wouldn't need to. He has eliminated people in broad daylight before, and he could do so again when against someone who can't see Stands.}

At first, you were a resource for the established characters to turn to, but you quickly began to steal the show due to your personality, your usefulness, or your inherently interesting perspective on life. You find yourself sticking around for no apparent reason other than you like it here. The people are fun to watch, if nothing else, but ultimately they're just--oh no. Oh no, you care about them. You always thought you stayed away from this "relationship" stuff for a reason. It gets messy and isn't worth it unless it really works. For some reason, this group really works. These weirdos are now your weirdos, and if anything happens to them, there will be hell to pay. You were basically already looking after them before this, after all. Welcome to the family, hermit.

I'm thinking about my dreams again bc I might actually try to finally map things out (this post made me do it) and I'm realizing a trend;

there's too much water
