Final Thoughts
So, these past few books I have found myself in a huge reading slump. I have found myself with no motivation to pick up any of the books that I have had on my TBR. It took me far too long to finish the last two books that I have picked up. (At no fault of the books.) Life has been busy and has left me too exhausted to read. #momlife lol
I will be giving this book a 4 out of 5 apples. This is the first young readers book that I have picked up in a long time. The story was very engaging, and the characters were written in a way that would definitely resonate with this book’s target demographic. The characters were simply written in a way that would be easily digestible for young readers; but not too simple where adults couldn’t enjoy the book as well.
I found Bruno to be a very endearing character. His naivety at times was maddening; but this gave us a little insight of how German parents might have shielded their children from much of what was going on at the time. His parents never really addressed with him where they actually were, why they were there, and also what was happening on the other side of that fence. The staff in the house were too afraid to answer Bruno’s questions or even voice how they truly felt for fear that they might find themselves on the other side of that fence. This book did a great job of showing us that hatred is a taught behavior and we all have the chance to choose to teach our children kindness.
I really enjoyed reading the boy in the striped pajamas. In my opinion it is a very important book that everyone should read. It is an easily digestible novel of a very dark period in history that helps open discussions for young readers. I can not wait for my two sons to be old enough to share this book with them.

I never read anything Brandon Sanderson before and I picked up this copy of way of the kings out of curiosity. Why is it longer than the average copy of the bible .(/gen)

Finally, in a low whisper, he said, "I think I might be a terrible person." For a split second I believed him - I thought he was about to confess a crime, maybe a murder. Then I realized that we all think we might be terrible people. But we only reveal this before asking someone to love us. It is a kind of undressing.

Since I'm thinking constantly about ASoIaF (the main story) for a while now I have to say it's really exausting to be an Arya stan.
The community is great, yes. There is a lot of good people
But the thing is
You enter tumblr
You search her tag
And instead of pretty gifsets
Well written metas
And pretty fanarts
What you see the most is people (we know who) mischaracterizing her, attacking her stans, twisting the narrative of the books about something important that involves Arya into something that doesn't even make sense only to downplay her importance, denying the part she plays on the key 5, not to mention how fixed these people are with her appearance.
I don't know how the stans and content creators are dealing with anon hate nowadays because I have been off for a really long time, (and I will continue to be, tbh), but I remember they were terrible, (anons actually saying Lyanna deserved to be raped to other anons wishing op to slit their wrists and kill themselves)
It's tiring.
And it has been the same for like... years now.

In honor of Black History Month, I encourage you all to read or watch any interview where the late Neal Adams talks about how John Stewart was created, like this one:
youtube
Genuinely I was on the floor laughing for a solid ten minutes. Based on how many variations of the interview I was able to find, it's clear that Neal Adams has told this story many times and I can see why. There's so many good moments that are worth talking about, but I think there's two that especially need to be highlighted:
First, the architect backstory. In the hands of a lesser creator, the third Green Lantern might very well have been a stereotypical gangbanger or "an African chief" as Adams says in other retellings of the story. And while characters like Wakanda's King T'Challa have their place, they're not exactly the most relatable to an American audience.
Second, the name. I was cracking up when Adams recounted how quickly his co-creator Denny O'Neil threw Julius Schwartz under the bus for "Lincoln Washington." Of course the editor who nicknamed Tom Kalmaku "Pieface" would come up with that kind of name.
Tumblr media
I think it's important to remember that this was 1972. Civil rights laws and the end of legal segregation in the US were less than a decade old. The open racism that is resurgent today was ten times worse then. Neal Adams was far, far ahead of his time when he created John Stewart, a superhero who not only represented Black Americans as they were, but also the future that they deserve.

Going to do a Nevermoor series reread in June + July + August ? if anyone else also wants to do a reread around that time, could be fun to have more of the fandom prepping for Silverborn
Did initially make a roadmap plan to split the books up into weeks on top of already being months, so that people could focus on specific parts and discuss each week….. but between the fact that I messed it up the first time, Silverborn kept getting delayed as I planned it, and I’m actually really bad at keeping to stuff like that (looking at you, Silverborn Countdown Challenge…) I’m deciding to just go for it at whatever pace happens.
#will def be June/July but we’ll have to see if I get into August. may want to keep most of that + September as Silverborn Hype Months lol#nevermoor#silverborn#if you ever followed my rereads thoughts masterpost for my (reread?) eternal reread and wondered ‘why no hollowpox’? boy is it a doozy#beginning of the year Apple Books updated and I’m not huge on it!#and since I couldn't fix I decided I would try and delete and reinstall the app.....#…..forgetting that my books and notes are tied to the app and not saved otherwise…..#so I lost all my notes INCLUDING all my reactions and thoughts from my very first reread that I was excited to look back on and share 🥲😭😭😭#so I’ve just been in mourning and never continued out of my personal beef with the app….#so this time I think I’ll take use of all my different physical copies and read them physically to give myself a break from screens lol#this summer is just grindset time of getting back into drawing and trying to get good so this reread I also want to draw stuff alongside#like try to nail some character designs and such to make it easier for Silverborn lol#I fear I will need to figure out how to draw dragons……#anyways. if you’ve read all these tags you are now required to join in on the reread with me 🫵#this also reminds me I need to keep working / actually work on the nine spreadsheet / masterpost. will do that ✍️#I have had several drafts saved of posts I want to respond to with theories that I’ve been saving for my hollowpox reread that now I’m like#do I just save them for Silverborn?? lol

You all NEED to know about the Anti-G Straining Maneuver
It's what fighter pilots are taught to do when G forces are pulling all their blood from their brains to their feet (sound familiar?) to help prevent them from blacking out or going unconscious.
I have used this many times and it's very effective.
First tighten/contract all of the muscles in your lower body (abdomen down to toes). This acts much in the same way as compression stockings and helps force blood back upward and prevent it from running en mass to your ankles.
Second step is to take quick, shallow breaths. Basically you're hyperventilating here which helps to super-oxygenate your blood making what little blood you can get to your brain more effective at delivering the much needed oxygen.
If you find this technique at all helpful you can thank lesbian romance novels because that's where I learned about it and went "huh, that's basically what happens when I stand up I wonder if it'll help" and it did so now you know about it too.

It is July, somehow and I still haven't asked you for coffee. It's too warm for coffee now and maybe we're too old for ice cream.

🐑 Alternate Universe- Magic, Mutual Pining, Demonic possession, Furbies
Oh dear...
Alex is attending one of the most prestigious magic academies in the country, on the orders of his parents of course. Even though Laiz Fier Academy reviles even the name of the only type of magic he's ever been good at. His parents swore he'd find another specialty here, and he'd let himself believe them, like the idiot he is. He's scraping by in classes. Barely. At least he's managed to make a couple of friends and figure out how to sneak into the library stacks to find books that will actually help him hone his skills.
However, Alex realizes now there's a reason why it's not recommended to do your first summoning alone. Because, while he does manage to summon a demon, it doesn't exactly end up in the silvery urn he'd laid in the center of the pentagram.
So now he has a talking, demonic Furby to hide. One that, despite its too-wide eyes and disconcertingly smooth voice, Alex thinks he might be developing feelings for.
(Fake fic ask game!)
#legolas tag#legolas ask#julie and the phantoms#willex#so okay in my head#Alex is super good at a specific branch of magic#which usually would be awesome since he was born into a high power magical family#unfortunately the thing he's good at is demonic magic#which is.... unpopular to put it lightly#his parents send him away to school in the hopes that he'll latch onto something else with so many options to explore#that doesn't happen#he meets Luke and Julie (both music magic) and Reggie (animal magic)#and they all become friends#and they all figure out how to sneak into the stacks together#where Alex finds all the hidden away books on demonic magic#cause it's not actually Evil like people think#just... darker in source than most#Alex may fall down a bit of a spiral about his abilities and worth though#and ends up attempting to summon an actual demon to help him learn magic#but... well he must have messed up the binding part of the ceremony?#Cause he does get a demonic magic coach#but said coach (Willie) goes into the Furby Reggie got him as a prank birthday present#and well... Alex knows he should figure out how to undo it and send Willie back to Hell or wherever#but then he has to rush to hide him first before he gets caught#and then they end up chatting a fair amount over the next few days#because Alex is a world class insomniac and Willie just doesn't sleep#but Alex is kept too busy with classes and stuff to go back to the library to find the stuff to sort out the mess he's made#and if Willie knows how to do it he isn't sharing#(he totally knows but it's his first time in the human world in ages and Alex is nice and kinda cute tbh so...)#and...they become friends? And also develop massive crushes on each other?
