Headcanon - Fire

It is no secret that dragons are closely related to magic. They suffer with the land have been around since forever. There are many things that can be said about a dragon's magic but the truth is not even they know where it comes from, all they know is that it's there and come as naturaly as breathing for them.

For Shyvana, this is not an exception, fire runs through her blood just like it was actually it. Fire dragons pocess fire proof skin and a special extra organ next to their stomatchs that is what allows them to safely harness their inner flame and expell it. Shyvana, due to her unique situation, Shyvana can summon her inner flame at will, giving her unique habilities that other dragons do not have.

While she does not need to set herself on fire every time, she does that to help in a fight (and because of the effect it has).

However, if you ask her how she can do all that.... she will answer that it's just in her nature.

Moon 7

The moon begins with heartache. One of the four elders, Sunwhisker, saved Stoatkit from a deadly adder, but had bitten in the process. He would pass a few days before Moon 8. When patchpaw had gone to find herbs, he saw a visage of Sunwhisker, who lead the apprentice to a new patch of Comfrey, which is the herb Pinepaw needed to recover. With that final act, Sunwhisker gladly passed on to Starclan, happy to have done a final good deed for his brother's grandkits.

         "... Hey, are you okay?” Perhaps not the best question to be asking someone who was currently face down on the ground and possibly unconscious, but what else was there to ask? She could see that they were breathing, and from sight alone they seemed unharmed- or at least not obviously injured or bleeding out. Not wanting to invade their personal space had her keeping a respectable distance and not moving in to attempt and even turn them over- though more than desiring to respect their privacy...

       This wasn’t the first time she had stopped to assist a stranger on the ground and if this turned out to be an ambush of sorts... 

        Well. Sadly, that wouldn’t be the first time either. Precaution had one of her hands poised over Falchion’s hilt, a steely set to her eyes despite the concern shining in them. She wanted to help, and she would, but she refused to let her kindness of taken advantage of again. “Do you need any help?”

Introducing the Mercury Dragons.

- Commandant Xiao Jin: "It's a pleasure to meet you. I hope we become the best of friends."

Being one of the youngest Commandants, Xiao is often underestimated, much to his chagrin. Even Commandant Noir makes the mistake of seeing him as a little brother figure. But Xiao's BP and reputation with his Constructs commands an immense amount of respect. He's cheerful, warm and charismatic, but he's also dangerously observant. Underestimate him and he'll promptly have you regretting your assumptions.

- Enya Deathlock: "Wrap your laughing gear around that, you disgusting piece of shit!"

A Construct that would take a dozen bullets for any of his friends, or an innocent, with a smile on his face. Has no tolerance for those that treat Constructs like dolls. Has no regard for his own safety. Is always confused whenever his Commandant orders him to be careful. Animated, friendly and romantic.

- Katla Firerune: "Commandant, there has to be a better way! You know, a way that won't get us all killed!"

A gentle, resourceful Construct with a beautiful smile. Comes off as an incredibly nervous individual, but can kick some serious ass on the battlefield. Lost one of his arms in battle once, while protecting a member of a different squad.

- Araceli Quicksilver: "We'll get through this. I promise."

Affectionately referred to as 'Quicksilver' or 'Cel'. A beautiful, valiant Construct that heals others with a smile. Is well-known for his smile and peace sign. Has known Commandant Xiao the longest.

Last Friday the Kickoff of La Mercè Festival set Barcelona on fire! Literally! 🔥👺🔥👹🔥 💃🏻🔥 This wonderful 4 days celebration is an official city holiday since 1871. “La Festa major” ( how is known in Catalán) is an annual festival that includes parades of giants, popular dances, batucadas, fire-runs “correfocs”, human pyramids called “Muixeranga”, free live concerts all around the city, wonderful fireworks shows every night and much more. I was honored to be part of the celebrations and I can say, it has been one of my favorite traditional festivals I had experienced around the world. Without doubts a wonderful welcoming that I will cherish forever! ¡Gracias Barcelona! 🔥❤️🔥 ¡El viernes pasado fue el inicio del Festival de La Mercè que prendió fuego a Barcelona! ¡Literalmente! 🔥👺🔥👹🔥 💃🏻🔥 Esta maravillosa celebración de 4 días es una fiesta oficial de la ciudad desde 1871. The Known God, from the Ether, stitched the world we know with magic. Just beyond the sky, below the ground, in the depths of the water is the Ether, just out of reach — giving us the water, the air, the fire, the earth that we know. The Known God gave mortals a gift, the ability to pull power from the Ether, the magika, to use for their own good. When mortals became greedy and the magika flowing from the Ether threatened to tear their world to shreds, the Known God imbued the Five Saints with incredible magic beyond any understanding. 

When the Saints fled the Land of Origin and settled into the Land of Light, they passed their magic ability through their bloodlines. To be of the Blood allows the use of magic, the act of using Ether with the body as a conduit. Magic users come into their powers in young adulthood, although the youngest known discovery of magical talent was at the age of ten. Typically, those with magic talent find themselves particularly connected to one specific magical ability they can wield with ease while the rest take time to develop and master. 

There are two Forms of Magic: Natural Magic (Witchery) and Divine Magic (Sorcery). 

Natural Magic 

Natural Magic draws power from the world around us, imbued with the magic from the Ether. It is simple magic and usually cannot draw enough power to truly harm anyone. The use of natural magic is known as Witchery, and those who pursue a career in witchery are known as Witches. Natural magic is limited by the surroundings and the constitution of the user. All forms of Natural Magic can be done by witches, although their effectiveness does take time and training. It is common for Witches to train in the temples and dedicate their lives to the Pantheon; some say that their connection to the Ether is stronger that way, but others do go their own way.  Elemental Magic: The manipulation of the elements around them: fire, water, and lightning. The said element must be in proximity and cannot be summoned from nothing. Ex: there must be a flame, or at least a spark, in order for fire to be magicked. 

Ethereal Magic: The manipulation of the Ether in the world. This comes in the form of a deep connection and healing magic on living things such as humans, animals, and even plants. This form of natural magic is a little more difficult to master, as it could be easily misdirected without focus, making it ineffective. Ethereal Magic, when practiced can allow a deep, empathetic connection with humans or animals. Healing only goes as far as jump starting or accelerating the healing process, effective for illnesses, small wounds, purging toxins, or assisting in childbirth. Often Witches who practice Ethereal magic will also study biology and medical sciences too.   

Enchanting Magic: The manipulation of Ether to embed into normal items, such as potions, charms, and runes. A tricky form of magic, it requires the items be precisely made or else be ineffective. This form of magic allows people without magical talent to benefit from magic, such as taking a herbal concoction for healing, a fire rune to hold a flame, or a charm to enhance awareness, all without an actual witch present. They are usually physically exhausting to make and require expertise.  

Divine Magic

Sorcerers use Divine Magic, or Sorcery. It is considered to be a more ‘pure’ form of magic as it is closer to the powers wielded by the Saints. Sorcery, instead of pulling from the natural sources around us, pulls directly from the Ether. Ether can be stored in gemstones as a conduit, but each Sorcerer is taught to hold the Ether within themselves. 

This form of magic is considered limitless, as it is manifested mentally according to the wielder. Some sorcerers tattoo themselves with runes and symbols to more easily contain Ether. A tattooed firerune, for example, can draw out the power of the Ether more immediately and effectively by creating an instantaneous blue flame. This process comes with risk, however. Should the tattoo be applied improperly or become damaged by scarring, etc., the link to the Ether changes and becomes unpredictable and dangerous. 

There are several schools of Sorcery that have been discovered and expanded upon. Most Sorcerers must dedicate themselves to one form of Sorcery to effectively master it. Nearly every form of Sorcery can be weaponized. 

Elemental Sorcery: Unlike natural magic, the elements can seemingly be summoned at will and grow in power. 

Ethereal Magic: The healing practices of Ethereal Magic are incredibly expanded on and have much more immediate results. Depending on the situation, the acceleration process can be sped up to nearly instant and complete healing. Things like broken bones and organs can be healed quickly, those missing can be regrown, some lives can be saved when on the brink of death. Ethereal magic can also be reversed, causing degradation of organic materials, atrophy, and rot. 

Enchanting Magic: This type is incredibly enhanced: runes, potions, and charms increased in effectiveness and longevity. This is how magical items are created. Weapons, armor, and even entire buildings can be enchanted with the correct placements and power pulled into them. 

Divination Magic: A newly discovered school, Divination is the act of pushing one's consciousness into the Ether, a place where physical and mortal rules do not apply. It can be used to peer into different places and times and connect Sorcerers across vast distances. It is the Sorcery type considered most dangerous to the user, because one runs the risk of becoming lost in the Ether since the concept of time does not apply.

The College of Sorcery is the only legitimate place to learn the theories and practices of Divine Magic. The College was created in the Holy City shortly after the departure of the Saints, established within the halls of the University of Meridia before breaking off on their own. Due to the dangerous nature of Sorcery, the governing members of the College, known as the Triumvirate, worked with the Pantheon and The Guardians to outlaw unauthorized sorcery. 

Only registered sorcerers are allowed to use Divine magic outside of the College. Registered Sorcerers are usually deployed to courts and typically carry around sigils to prove their registration. Unauthorized sorcerers will be, on the merciful end, imprisoned with their hands severed. Those who use unauthorized sorcery that leads to harm or death will be executed. 

There is a theory that the Triumvirate wishes to have a hold on all magic use and have been kidnapping any child showing magical talent to bring to the College. Yet there has been no concrete evidence of this.

Blood Magic

This form of magic is banned by the College, though it was used by the Blood Queen centuries ago. Blood magic used magic powered by those of the Blood rather than the Ether itself and the Blood Queen used it to fight against the Saints. The magic was very powerful and deadly to all except her. She was rumored to be killed by one of the Saints but a body was never found and years later she re-emerged to fight against the radical nature of the college and their restrictions on Sorcery. She was again rumored to be killed by the original Triumvirate, but yet again no corpse was ever recovered. It has been centuries since she was last seen and she has become something of a fabled legend. There is a cult that still works in her name: the radical sorcerers who harvest the blood of those with magical talent known as The Bloodbound.

As Patchpaw continues to learn the ways of a medicine cat, an elder named Quickfleck leaves camp without anyone realizing. A few hours later, Quickfleck returns with a single kit that was only just starting to open his eyes. Firerun, another elder and Heartwhisker's father demands an explanation, but Quickfleck simply tells Firerun to mind his own business. Boragespot doesn't mind the new kit, but Patchpaw is soon having his paws full when the kit gets sick due to not having a nursing queen to help care for him.

Correfoc means 'firerun' in Catalan. It is a very popular tradition always seen at neighborhood fiestas. It consists of colles de diables which means 'groups of devils' chasing and dancing to the beat of drums, spewing out sparks from fireworks attached to forks. In Barcelona you can see correfoc runs at the many of the big festivals like the Festa Major de Gracia and Festes de San Roc in August and the La Merce festival in September.
