Hi! Sorry if you've already answered this but what does each RO feel and think about MC path of either Justice or Revenge? (Heir path)
(Love to see what everyone else thinks as well)
I'm just curious to know what Rin truly thinks about MC going for revenge, because I feel like he's a bit reluctant? But also, an heir to a crime family going for justice? (Giving him over to the police after getting enough evidence to convict him) I can't really see him approve that, either.
I'm also curious of what their "preferred" heir MC is, Ruthless or Merciful, admired or feared etc.
Am definitely curious to know how that affects Ash as well. I love my little psycho MC (Definitely some Jinx vibes going on there) but then I get concerned and worried when I see Ash being like "Whoa, so cool! Never seen a body rain blood before, awesome! Whoo, murder! 🥳"
Then i'm like "Wait... No, this is bad Ash, BAD! Blood rain isn't awesome! It's horrifying! It's literally what happens in the APOCALYPSE! That's it, we're going to have a long talk when we get home about Wrong and Right!"
...then later when she gets her birthday present she'll giddily ask Luka if she can try torturing him too 😭
I feel so conflicted when Ash asks MC about what she will do with the killer... Then says what he wants, which is exactly the same, so I can't really tell him not to do the same... But it makes me so concerned every time, and guilty.
I don't want to bring my sweet, beloved firecracker down and even darker path than the one we're already on 😭
Ash and Rin prefer revenge to justice (letting the justice system do what it was supposed to do a long time ago). Probably because of the families and environment that they’re both raised and live in, they believe retaliation against such personal slight should be taken into their own hands.
However, whereas Ash’s revenge might be explosive and impulsive as they chase the quickest way to personally get their hands on the one who wronged them, Rin’s revenge is cold and calculating.
It’s full of reckoning, scheming, and pulling of strings behind the scenes and they’re content to let others to do the dirty work. They don’t really care about seeing the one who wronged them face-to-face and kill them with their own hands like Ash does.
That doesn’t make their revenge less personal though, and dare I say, sometimes, their revenge ends up being more drawn-out and torturous for the poor schmuck. The true definition of “revenge is a dish best served cold”.
And Rin does prefer Ruthless MC in the sense that they both have a more similar mindset. Of course, they’ll still love Merciful MC the same, but being with such kind MC makes them highly protective of them since they don’t want to see them get hurt or taken advantage of.
They’ll do whatever it takes to keep MC safe behind MC’s back, doing the necessary things that Merciful MC might not have the heart to do themself. Same thing with Ash as well, which is why in the Ash/MC/Rin poly, Ash and Rin will actually become really close and trusted confidantes of each other because they—almost all of the time—have the same mindset and overarching goal.
Santana and Skylar, of course, prefer justice and letting the right people dispense due punishment. Although, a more cynical Santana might not be too opposed to MC having revenge as well since they’ve seen firsthand how corrupt and sometimes incompetent the system is; they can’t really blame MC and the Morozovs to want to take matters into their own hands.
And as for your last sentence about Ash… 🥺 They’ll gladly walk with MC down a darker path. They actually feel they are already walking down that path a long time ago, especially since they accepted working as the Family’s enforcer… 😥

So I few days ago I saw this post with the still where Sevika growls at Jinx looking like she is 3 times bigger than her, and I remembered that I'm like, 4cm (1-2 inches?) taller than Jinx and Sevika would look exactly as big if I was there instead of Jinx. Which at first made me think that I'd give Sevika a piece of my mind if she screamed at me like this, but on the second thought...well, I had to be a woman enough and idmit that Sevika'd make me fucking cry.
Which leads me to: Sevika screaming at reader - mb reader is Silco's goon or smtg (preferably with the height dif to make it scarier) and R is on a verge of tears. Sevika is like, "what the fuck..." She doesn't feel bad in the moment, just shocked and lost (you're criminals, who tf would cry) R comes home and gets angry at Sev for treating her like this and gives Sev reality check the next day, which leads to Sev apologising and then being all like "did I just fucking apologise to her what the FUCK I'm the fucking second in command" but she gets so impressed she asks R out after this.
Thank you for your writings, they're genuinely my morning paper (you post when it's nighttime for me and I read your stories in the mornings). Also you honestly impacted my writing - recently I'd write a line, look at it and think, oh, this is Angel's, she'd write something like this, and it so heart-warming to me. 💕
oh my god that is so heartwarming to ME i'm CRYING!!!!! i love this idea, lets do it!!!
men and minors dni
at first, you're just a blip on her radar. a new hire of silco's, just another set of arms to help lug and count and wield vairous weapons.
you catch her eye a few times in your first weeks working for silco. you're always cracking jokes, making other goons chuckle. you make her chuckle a few times, too. she calls you out during a briefing one evening, complimenting you on your hustle at the drop earlier that day. but besides that you're nothing to her.
and then you fuck up.
it's not your fault, not really. it's jinx's. she's got an intense fondness for fire, and you'd forgotten about that fact. so when the thirteen year old asked you for a lighter, you'd shrugged and tossed her one, thinking she was gonna light some firecrackers or experiment with smoking-- normal thirteen year old things. you never thought she'd set the warehouse you're all standing in on fire.
everyone makes it out unscathed, thank god. jinx runs away with a squeak when sevika comes stumbling out of the building, covered in soot and scowling. "jinx, you fuck!" she cries. "who the fuck gave her fire?!"
you meekly hold your hand up, still coughing up the lungfuls of smoke you'd inhaled. sevika growls, then shoves your shoulder, hard. she towers over you, glaring down at you as she seethes.
"you stupid shit-- what the fuck were you thinking? i'd bet nothing at all, since you clearly don't have any fucking brains in your skull--"
sevika cuts herself off, baffled. she coulda sworn she just saw a tear fall down your cheek.
you sniffle, wiping your face quickly. sevika almost laughs. you're... crying? what the fuck?
who the hell does that? you're a goon for fucks sake-- your job description might as well be: fuck up jobs and get yelled at. and now you're crying?
sevika just stares at you, bewildered, then she scoffs, turns around, and walks away.
you think that's the end of it.
for sevika it's only the beginning.
you didn't plan on confronting her, initially. but sevika was so shocked and put-off by your reaction to her yelling, that she's been yelling more and more at you just to see if you'd react the same way.
it's been two days now, and no matter what you seem to do, sevika's two steps behind you, growling and ready to demean you.
you lose your temper when she criticizes the way you're sharpening your knives.
"what the fuck is wrong with you?!" you growl, suddenly, interrupting her mid-rant. "you make me cry and then decide, what, that you've just gotta see it again?!" you ask. she blinks, even more shocked than she was when you burst into tears. "not all of us are tough as fuckin' nails sevika! but if you think crying is crazy, you should see what i'll do to you if you keep fuckin' with me!" you shout.
sevika's never been this shocked, intimidated, and turned on all at once in her life.
she clears her throat, gulps, then speaks. "i... i'm sorry." she says.
you sigh, then nod. "it's fine." you cut her off, before swiftly walking away. she watches you go, more confused than she's ever been in her life.
did she just... fucking apologize to you? her? second in command to silco? apologizing to you? rookie goon who'd only been hired to dig graves and clean blood stains?
and why couldn't she stop thinking about you? why was she suddenly so drawn to you, muffling her laugh at every one of your jokes she overhears, her eyes drawn to you every time you're in the same room?
sevika almost throws up when she realizes she's crushing on you.
she tries to ignore it. but now that she's aware of her attraction to you, it's all she can focus on.
she goes to work, she's thinking about you.
you're in the room, she's trying to subtly get close enough to sniff your shampoo.
she's at home, she's sleeping off a hangover and having wet dreams about you.
she lasts a week before you confront her again.
"are you plotting on killing me?" you ask one evening while you and sevika lug crates of shimmer off an airship. she trips over her own feet, then looks over at you like you're crazy. you just raise an eyebrow at her.
"what makes you thi--"
"i cursed you out and ever since you've been... watching me." you say. sevika cringes. "ran's worried for me. they say it's like 'watching a predator stalk its prey.' i figured if you were gonna kill me you'd've already killed me, but. i thought i'd ask, just in case." you say. sevika chuckles, unable to help herself. you're funny.
"i'm not plotting to kill you."
"then why--"
"i wanna ask you out." she mumbles. it's your turn to trip over your feet.
"what!?" you squawk. sevika huffs.
"i dunno. i don't get it either. but you cried in fronta me-- i don't remember the last time someone i wasn't killing cried in fronta me. i couldn't stop thinkin' about you. and then you yelled at me-- nobody yells at me. not even silco. and i apologized. i think-- fuck... i think you got me hooked." she groans. you're equally shocked, pleased and amused, smiling in shock and awe at sevika's revelation.
"...so?" you ask. sevika scoffs.
"whaddya mean 'so'!?"
"so... whaddya gonna do about it?" you ask, tilting your head to the side. sevika blinks at you, then smirks.
"can i take you to dinner?"
"actual food or just liquor and smokes?"
sevika giggles-- nobody makes fun of her. but you are. and... she likes it?
"actual food. whatever you want, i'm buying." she says. you smile.
"after work tonight?"
"yes." she nods, grinning. you shrug, pretend to consider her offer, then nod.
"alright." you say.
sevika bites her lip to keep in her girlish giggle. but then you dart forward and press a peck to her cheek-- and she can't help but let it out anyways.

Bless This Mess (Chapter Preview)
Family AU inspired by @redrum-alice 💖
Thanks @a-hams-art for the help❤
✼ ҉ ✼ ҉ ✼ ҉
The bell chimes on the door clashed together as a little girl bursted through the door, shoving patrons out of her way as she ran for the bar.
"Move!" She demanded, elbowing another patron out of the way.
"Hide me!" She exclaimed as she slid under the bar and ducked behind the counter.
"Hey," Vi looked down at her. "What the hell did you do?"
"Nothing!"
"Bullshit. I know you did some-"
The bell chimesd again, only the chatter of the bar died the moment an Enforcer walked in.
The Enforcer looked at the old family potrait of Vi with her brothers, sister and Vander hanging behind her.
"I take it you're the owner of this establishment?" The Enforcer asked.
Vi scowled at her niece who shrugged and grinned sheepishly. "Yeah," Vi slung the dish rag over her shoulder then crossed her arms. "What seems to be the problem?"
The Enforcer looked around at the plants and unfastened his mask. "Is that child who ran in here yours?"
Ekko and Jinx glanced at each other and then narrowed their eyes at him.
"What do you want with her?" Ekko asked.
"She disrespected an Enforcer,"
Jinx rolled her eyes. "Okay, disrespectful how? Did she call you a stinky, booger brain and baby got mad?"
Heaven covered her hand over with mouth to conceal her giggling.
The Enforcer rolled his eyes. "I would not be here if she just did that. Your child was with a group of other children when she threw a rock at me while yelling, "Fuck you, shit face", and then made a run for it."
Ekko chuckled then shook his head. "Sounds about right," he said with a fond smile.
"Ha!"
When the man glared at her, she pouted and tilted her head in mock sympathy. "Awww. Now, did our little six year old hurt your feelings?" Jinx cooed.
Ekko snickered then bounced his wife on his knee. "I knew those big guns had to compensate for something."
The on-lookers and the couples laughter made the officer look at the parents incredulously.  "Is this how you're raising your child?" He asked, scandalized. "This is a disgrace!"
"Oh my Gods, Cherub," Jinx placed a hand over her chest as if she was offended enough to faint.  "You hear that? You disgraced us."
"Listen, man, she's really nice. She's a sweet kid overall." Vi said.
"She is," Ekko agreed. "Just not to you," As the Enforcer stared at him, he shrugged and took a swig of his drink.
"You better keep a closer eye on that kid, someone else will be less tolerant of her antics."
"How about you don't worry about our parenting and keep a close eye on one of your own." Ekko retorted.
"Damn, you're on a roll today, Little man!" She lightly smacked his chest and grinned proudly. Ekko smirked around his glass and chuckled softly.
"Watch your kid." He reptedly sternly, pointing at both of them.
"Yeah, whatever," Jinx waved him off and sipped her soda from her cup.
Out of the corner of their eye, Ekko and Jinx watched as the Enforcer left the bar. "Coast is clear, child," Jinx hit the counter.
Heaven popped up and pushed her goggles back to reveal her pink and brown eyes. "Man, that guy is sooooo shitty."
"He sure is,Firecracker," Ekko pushed her hood back and patted her head.
"Thanks for covering me," Heaven smiled. "I had to stop myself from laughing 'cause you guys are funny," she giggled.
Jinx gingerly held her chin and sweetly smiled,"Child, you can throw a grenade at them and we still wouldn't rat you out."
"You know, you could have hid in your room." Vi told her.
"No, 'cause they be expecting that!" Heaven said.
Jinx scoffed as if the answer was obvious, "Yeah,Vi,duh," she grinned playfully while stroking one of her blue braided pigtails.
"Well, slugger, you got a lot to learn." She ruffled her hair. "Now get from behind here," she gently pushed her away.
Heaven chuckled then ducked from the counter. "Auntie Vi!"
"Yeah?"
"When I said I didn't do anything..." She held hands behind her back and rocked on her heels. "I did."
Vi gasped loudly. "What? Really?!"
Heaven giggled and nodded. She yelped when Vi hit her with the rag. "Heeeeey!" Heaven rubbed the top of her head.
"Stop being a shit starter." Her aunt said with affection laced in her tone.
"Thanks for the show, Heaven!" A patron shouted.
"You're welcome!" She stuck her tounge out and threw two rock and roll signs. The patrons laughed and cheer, raising their beer mugs to her.

Would you be willing to do a platonic jinx and silco with a autistic fem reader? Has trouble with communucation and socialization, a bit clumsy, but is otherwise very loyal and sweet to them both and one of the few people who not only can keep up with jinx intelligence wise but actually understand her. Silco and jinx one day overhear one of silco's goon straight up call her an "idiot freak" or something really horrible not knowing she's more than just that kid that hangs around jinx all the time but is pretty much family.
(hello! I however, do not write autistic readers because I do not have autism or know anyone who does and I don't want to be insensitive for anything about that so I cannot do that so sorry. But anyways, enjoy!)
Little Dysfunctional Family
Jinx
Tumblr media
Jinx was ways happy to have you
Even if you had your quirks
She wasn't always the best with communication either
She was also accident prone, now and then when she was a certain someone
She didn't like socializing, she hated it
She didn't like being around fake ass goons who thought kissing up to her would get them on Silcos good side
It got tiring
So, having you, and knowing your love and being with her was genuine??
Made everything else matter absolutely jack shit
She treats you like a sibling, maybe if your younger, like a little kid sibling she never had
She will be very protective and loving
She doesn't want anything to happen to you
Or for anything, or anyone to take you away
She doesn't think she can handle that
So she does whatever it means to keep you happy and very loved
As long as you love her the same
It's a great deal, really
She is very happy you're able to connect with her on so many different levels
Especially when you help her when she has freak outs
You understand why she has them, and how she is the way she is
But you never judged her about it
Or really questioned it, you were just you, and you were there for her
And she will always love you for that
And that you're able to keep up with her highly energetic ways is amazing
And how you can make gadgets and go on and on for hours on end with her
She loves
She never had someone like that before, so now that she does
She doesn't wanna let it go and doesn't want anything to change
So to hear someone talk shit about you??
You??
The amazing one, her fucking sibling, like they're nothing??
Oh boy
When Jinx is mad, she is mad
There are no limits
She will do whatever the hell she pleases to them
She'll toy with them for a little tho lmao
She'll be asking
"Why do ya think that?? Wow, what else do you think?"
Acting coy, a fake pleasant and charming smile on her face while she is seething inside
Then she'll just bust out
"Well, funny you say that about, y'know, my best friend."
She'd be giggling while the goon is terrified
Everybody knows
don't fuck with Jinx
She's a firecracker is under the protection and love of the Eye of Zaun
So, safe to say
That goon is GONE
never to be seen again
Oh well, cuts your losses
Jinx will then rant to you about it and be telling you how wrong the goon is
She'll also probably tell you bits of what he said, and make it out like he tried attacking her to justify what she did
But it's okay!
Who can be mad at this amazing girl?
Silco
Tumblr media
He is the Eye of Zaun, man
He may not show it or say it very often, but he cares deeply about you and Jinx
He's had you guys for so long, he forgot what it was like without you both
He didn't care that you didn't very function well with socializing and communicating
To him, you were perfect
Because you were you
He wasn't good with that stuff either, like Jinx
That's what makes you all an amazing little family
A family that protects one another from anything
You all were basically molded with the same skills, some lacking in some departments, but we'll enough to appreciate one another
Even if it's not said every day
You knew it, Jinx knew it, and so did Silco
So, he wants to keep you and Jinx happy
He wants you guys to be taken care of
He also appreciated that you can connect with Jinx on a level he can not
Intelligence wise and her personality in general
Not many can keep up with the blue haired wonder
So, it's very much appreciated that you keep her alive while also indulging in her activities
He will not let anyone talk shit about you
Did you see how he acted when Sevika tried to call Jinx a problem??
Well, he'd act sorta like that
If the goon kept going on about you and saying shit
He's be silently pissed as they keep running their fucking mouth
If they even get the chance
He may not kill them per se
But they will be traumatized, no doubt
If they go far enough, he'd probably send Sevika on their ass
He would not stand for it
He would also, probably call them into his office and play a physiological game
He'd threaten them no doubt
And you and Jinx are giggling up in the rafters having the time of your lives watching this absolute jackass almost piss himself
Anyway, Silco would not let any asshole try and run all over you
He taught you better than to let that happen
He also will take care of it for you
It's his way of showing fatherly love
It's not perfect, but it's the way that he knows he can show it without screwing up

LIGHTCANNON WEEK DAY 4 ~ "Pop Star" ~ Under Your Lights
Lighting technician Luxanna "Lux" Crownguard is used to working under pressure. And there's no bigger gig than working with pop idol sensation, Seraphine, especially with her fiery latest tour for her new album Torment...
If only Lux could keep her entire focus on her job, and not on the firecracker backstage, the explosive special effects genius, Jinx...
(Finally my Day 4, only a FEW days late) Lux cupped her fingers together and leaned them on her chin, surveying the board of switches and sliders before her in her booth. Below, Seraphine giggled into her mic and swept her arm out, waving to the crowd, “Oh, what’s that? One more number? Well – we might just have something a bit spicier up our sleeves, just for you…” Lux found a smile prickling at her lips. “Scratch, take it away!” Sera shouted. “And…three…two…one…Jinx.” Lux murmured into her mic as she pushed her sliders. Timed, perfectly, with the first ragged, spiky riffs tearing out of the notorious Zaun Diva’s guitar, and with the shift of Lux’s colour sliders to bathe the stage in a hellish red, five plumes of smoke and noise exploded along the front of the stage, casting Seraphine and her band – Scratch on the lead guitar, Ekko on the bass, Zeri at the keys, Briar on the drums – as silhouetted demons in the gloomy atmosphere Lux had created… “Gotta love a good breakup song,” Lux sighed to herself as Sera switched from her sugary pop voice to the angry growling opening notes of her shocker latest single, Torment, “Gives us two weirdos plenty of excuses to get creative.”

So @/Sharjamon on Twitter (@sharjo on tumblr!) created this awesome chart about the 1000 Day Club (every League champion that has ever gone 1000 days without receiving a skin). I re-sorted the chart a little because I was curious. Images and fun facts below (long post!):
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sharjo's original chart is on the left, my version is on the right. Theirs is ordered by the length of time spent in the club. I was curious how this tied into how long the champion had been in the game, so mine is ordered by the length of time since the champion's release.
Sharjo also made this huge thread detailing EVERY champion who's ever been in the 1,000 day club, when it happened, and for how long. I would share this on Twitter but I had a lot of interesting things to talk about and didn't want to deal with the character limit.
First, some cool things that Sharjo pointed out:
Skarner has spent the most time in the 1000 day club. He's entered it 3 times and spent a total of 4,560 days waiting for skins (that counts the entire time between skins, not just the amount of days after his club entry).
Zilean is at the second most with 4258 days in the club. He was the first champion to ever enter the club (founding member!) and he has also been there 3 times.
Urgot holds the record for the single longest time period any champion has spent in the club at 2,369 days, between the releases of Battlecast (03/05/2012) and High Noon (08/30/2018).
Yorick is next, with 2,295 days between Pentakill (06/21/2011) and Arclight (10/02/2017). This was the longest period of time a champion had to wait to receive their first post-release skin.
Alistar is the champion who entered the club with the highest total number of skins at 14 (although he's one of the oldest champions in the game, so he's had a long time to accumulate them).
Xin Zhao is poised to become the newest member of the club, as he currently sits at 891 days (since Firecracker) and is not receiving a skin during the Anima Squad event. It would be his first time :(
And some neat things I noticed:
Out of the original 40 champions from League of Legends' release on 10/27/2009, 27 have made it to the 1000 day club, 1 was a near miss (Tryndamere), and 12 have never been in it.
Ornn is the "youngest" (most recently released) champion to enter the 1000 day club at 2510 days since his release on 08/22/2017. In other words, no champion released after that has gone to the 1000 day club.
Miss Fortune has the most skins of any champion who's ever been in the 1000 day club at 20 (this includes Admiral Battle Bunny Miss Fortune). She's currently tied with Ezreal for most skins overall. Her 1000 day club induction was between 2011 and 2014, between Crime City and Arcade.
Every champion with 12 or more skins was released in 2012 or earlier save for Lucian, Jinx, Thresh, and Yasuo (2013 releases).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Here's a chart I made comparing champion release dates to the number of skins they have! One with just data points and one with the names of each champion. Click for better resolution.
As always thank you for listening to me ramble about League :) go check out Sharjo's posts if you're on Twitter!

give me a hot sec to pathetically gush over my favourite arcane scene and probably one of the best sequences of a tv show ever because the brainrot has set in too deep
I'm gonna try to be semi articulate and not just scream incoherently about the sheer flawlessness of every aspect of it so
the stunning, haunting visual manifestation of jinx's trauma and deep obsessive guilt / always carrying the family she's killed on her back like ghosts / the weight of her guilt and her inability to escape the past, living in that moment of loss and death forever... Claggor died instantly so his ghost on her back is expressionless. Quiet. Mylo is screaming in agony because a) his death was slow and painful, bleeding out on that floor feeling every explosion set off by jinx's bombs b) I think also because Mylo represents the negative voice in her head and claggor represents the more 'positive' and the negative always drowns out the positive inside of her. IMMACULATE. Haunting.
Match cutting Caitlyn and Vi sliding down that tunnel like bullets to the enforcers loading their rifles is a shiver inducing genius foreshadowing / metaphor
The little moment of Vi fucking losing it over that dude in her way, furiously shoving him away and flipping him off despite being in a frantic rush to get away (a tiny flicker of comedic relief because she's a FIRECRACKER) then looking up and seeing jinx's flare because of it. I'M ON MY KNEES somewhere in piltover crying screaming
WHEREVER YOU ARE LIGHT IT UP AND I'LL FIND YOU !!!!!!!! and jinx's desperate attempt to reach out to her sister. She's kept that flare tucked away in a box for YEARS hoping that one day it'll help her guide vi back to her. The later tragedy of them both wanting their sister back but both of them wanting the idealised version of the other... One of them stuck in the past the other diving head first into what is to come (slightly irrelevant but im a firm believer that enforcer vi is coming, if not next season, then s3)
Silco's blind rage and violence, thrashing around in furious disbelief, punching, kicking, screaming, stumbling back and collapsing onto the ground in his breathless fury!! STUNNINGLY portrayed.
The visuals, the music, the bouncing, throbbing pulse of its pace!! The massive outpouring of feelings (hope, desperation, rage, devotion...) This sequence serves as one of the best executed boiling points in a show that I have ever seen!!
The bridge scene! A throwback to the bridge scene on episode 1 and how it all began for the sisters! The terrifying finality of it, like, look at us. this is the world: there's them (under city) and us (piltover) and the gap can never be bridged. They've come FULL CIRCLE with this moment.
ALSO
because I'm pathetic

They've something of a routine, in this.
He's come to expect it, over the months; on days like these, most of all. Past a spider-spiral of jade glass, glossed with gold, brews a storm: the rains speckling off the windows and battering over the roofs, a haze of gloom laid about their streets, like an old god stirred from the tides. It rakes its claws off every storefront and tile; leaves its footprints in polluted pools on the cobbles, with each howling stagger through the Lanes. It skews his office to gray tones, and ripples the walls with water-shadow.
A kindred spirit, in its own way. A comfort. But not for her.
The child dislikes the rain—much as she dislikes sunlight or the color lemon or the feeling of water in one's boots. Those menial things, though, can be corrected: a change of environment, new paints, fresh clothes. Contrary to the superstitions of those paid by his coin, however, he cannot control the weather.
A storm will oft send the girl into a reclusive fit. Ill associations, perhaps. He knows, best of all of them, that memory's a wry devil. With a sorceress's charm, she weaves sensation into the most stubborn edges of one's nerves; she steals things that were once cherished, and tarnishes their taste to rot; she encases, cages, and gnaws at the mind.
In his case, the work and the drink and the walks through the night's chill do enough to abide her.
Jinx—as she is now asking to be called—is still finding her ways.
On the rare, rain-drenched instances she will emerge from her den, brave the firecracker of the thunder to peel up the bar's varnish-slick steps, he's learned to find her here: her quiet tinkerings echoing from the underbelly of his desk, her small head at his knee, a gargoyled hunch in the cave-cover it provides.
He tends to think of the girl in feline terms: a spatting kitten clawing up the curtains. On these days, she's more akin to a pup at his feet—one he has to remind himself is there.
He shifts in his chair, pen in hand. She's brought a closet's worth of crafting supplies with her: papers, pens, metal parts, screws. His own work, housed in a series of reports, is similarly cluttered: steel mills, imports, distilleries, bullets. Cogs and wheels of his own toolbox.
"I see you're...working on something new." Rain smatters; his pen scratches. At his knee, the girl rifles through a set of oil-crayons. "Another invention of yours?" he wonders slowly, slicing the quill into three sharp lines.
1-5-7.
A code for Sevika: a blessing in order, with a red string. The mills were up thirty percent from the last quarter, but their chief of operations was getting skittish. Not all saw the promise in supplying disputes across the water.
He could bend their workers' ears, differently.
A small, paint-spackled hand twists around the front of his desk. With it, a splatting page.
The girl has her own codes, he's found. Music or mantras or poems, when the words won't seem to come to her. A color palette of emotions, when she isn't quite sure how to box them in, herself. He's picked up enough on their patterns. Blue means happy; yellow, sad; green, nervous.
She retreats her hand, quickly. In silence, he muddles over what he's left with.
No talking today, it seems.
Scrawled on the page: a flash of neon-pink.
Her penmanship spears through the paper, jagged lettering and punctuated swirls. It has a touch of carnivalesque charm about it. Bold, vibrant, uneven.
Gilby — Gilbert — Gilly?  Like a smokie bear-BOOM! He's gonna be pink and red. See?
Underneath, she's drawn a ghoulish rendition of what appears to be a pipe bomb, with extra wires atop the head and a set of welded ears. The face wears the signature scowl she so seems to favor. Scribbled along the sides sit two claw-tipped paws.
Curiously, Silco cocks his head. She's gone so far as to outline the very chemistry she intends to use to stage the explosive. A viper-sharp mind in that little head of hers.
He hums. His pen scratches in a quiet response. A line jetted through smokie—above it, a thin respelling. Beside her drawing, he leaves notes of his own, in his sliced, sloping script.
Lovely colors. Consider a chlorate mixture — will better suit the size.
He slides the page back towards the edge of his desk, and returns to his reports. A thin set of fingers tiptoes over the varnish: slips the paper back out of sight.
Another rumble of thunder bleeds through the streets. His pen sweeps down a second sheet. Not a moment after, he finds his work again interrupted. A series of stars have been added across her page.
Sawdust or sugar? Why is it better? How did you learn about chemistry?
Silco leans into one elbow, with a low breath. He has half a mind to send his reports to the girl; see if her sharpness for equations extends to analytics.
Instead, his thumb slips her candy-colored questions farther over his wall of numbers, careful to avoid smudging her work. A gust of wind batters the rain against the windows. Beneath his desk, an incessant tick-ticking of metal. He scratches in his responses, lamplight glimmering on still-wet ink.
Sawdust. This design will have a greater reliance on pressure than combustion. From working the tunnels, then the doctor, then the tutors he knew of.
And so their routine begins: a question to a response, a response to a question. With each tradeoff, another smattering of doodles appears—some pink, some blue, some black.
Did you like school?
She's drawn a small galaxy, now, complete with star-shine and moons. He does his best to write around them: neat boxes of black lettering.
What I could get of it, under the company allowances. They hadn't much care for an educated workforce.
The company hadn't much care for anything, beyond bodies sloughing through that black earth, doing as they were told. Huddled in the barracks, his lamp tucked beneath his sheets, he used to read stolen books cover-to-cover and back again: histories, economics, folktales.
What was your favorite part? Literature.
The girl scribbles a violent response, to that. He lifts his brows, patiently, fingers laced. Gives a dull huff to the slash of pink she slides before him.
UGH!! Borrring! Did you ever write anything? Boring for you. Started with union pamphlets. Some essays stuck in the press.
A light thwunk of her boot hits the floor.
What about geology? I like geology. What's your favorite rocks? Consequence of the trade, less than like it. Minerals, not rocks. Covellite, jasper, bloodstone.
Each mineral hosts their own illustrations, by the time she turns the sheet back to him: a blue comet, a red heart, a green hand.
What were the mines like?
His pen idles on the page.
"Am I to answer that in stanza, or in a speech?" he muses, dryly.
Beneath his desk, a small sound, like an animal stifling a hiccup. After a moment, Jinx speaks. "Papa worked in the mines."
She hardly ever mentions her parents. When she does, it is with the same veneration that she speaks of her sister: like something too far gone to touch; something feared and worshipped, in turns.
Silco thinks of his own father, nigh-nonexistent father, with a lineage stripped from him since birth, and feels his nail bite into his thumb.
He thinks of Vander, for a short, vile moment—and then he doesn't.
"Then you know of it, enough," he mutters, regathering himself.
A feather-light touch toys at the clasps of his boot. "Papa hated them."
He is back in them, briefly. Back in that hellish chill, dry as death; in the red-lamped glow signposting ten-meter intervals in the pitch; in the feel of the rock at his back, a crawlspace of a work path, ore and diamonds rattling in his carts; the smell of sulphur and sweat and dust in his lungs, thick as sludge in his throat.
His pen twitches.
"Most the lot of us did, child," he says, far quieter than he intends, "and most hadn't a choice."
Jinx says nothing to that, for a long moment. She makes no move to retrieve her sheet, either. But he feels her shift: a firmer pressure at his knee, her tinkerings forgotten.
He lingers over her drawings.
Pink. The color of her shame and anger.
Silco drags his thumb against the ridges of his fingertips, worries over the hard calluses the years of that labor had left: scar tissue too deep to fade. In the silence, his reports tether back his attention. Still, Jinx sits.
He marks three sharp lines: another code for his right-hand. A gloss of green light begins to break through the gray. "These wretched things in life," he finds himself murmuring, "we all must endure. But we are stronger, for having endured them." His other hand loosens from his temple, finds the soft crown of the girl's head, and rests there. "Remember that."
Jinx draws in a small breath, picking at a piece of tin.
For minutes, she doesn't say a word. Then, quietly: "Okay."
The rains lighten. He returns to his work, leafing through new proposals and policy drafts.
At his feet, the child scribbles.
Pink and blue, and pink and blue.

🍎 apple: let’s talk about friendship in your wip. do you have any favorite friend/platonic dynamics? any friendships gone sour?
Based on this post.
I was hoping someone would ask me about friendships because I have some definite favorites.
To not make this overly long because I do love creating deep friendships in my works where I can, I'm going to try and limit myself to my top three.
My absolute #1 favorite has to be from Their Sweet Omega.
Angel and Ransom's friendship is everything to both of them. They've known each other from childhood, having grown up with similar backgrounds. There's not much they won't do for each other. Angel actually manages to soften Ransom's rougher edges though he still maintains a lot of his normal canon mannerisms around others.
We're actually going to see a bit more about their friendship in a piece I'll be working on as soon as I wrap up another for the same universe. So, I don't want to spoil too much before I get to it.
My second favorite has to be from Bucky's Best Friend.
Nat and Bucky are really trying so hard to get their friends together in this one. Sure, they're going about it in the completely wrong way, but they truly have their best friends' interests in mind. Steve and Sweets don't have the best dating histories (especially Steve), and Nat and Bucky just want them happy.
I'm definitely hoping to write the rest of their story soon. Just keep getting waylaid by the verse above and other things.
My third (and final, I promise) has to be one we haven't seen yet, but I'll hopefully be debuting sometime soon.
It's in the same verse as Their Sweet Omega and His Scarred Omega.
The friendship between Curtis and Frank's reader (nicknamed Firecracker) shares some similarities with Angel and Ransom. They've been friends since high school rather than childhood.
Firecracker is a bit of a wild card, but she's got the best intentions. Curtis has a calming effect on her, but she also gives him chances to come out of his shell in ways others haven't let him. Like Angel and Ransom, there's not much they won't do for each other.
We'll definitely learn more about them soon as they both have their separate stories in this verse.
Honorable mentions:
Steve and his entire restaurant staff from Shooting His Shot
Steve and "Steffy" from my Cool Rider Barber Shop & Hair Salon verse (need to get back to this verse soon too)
Salem and Jinx from To Repay a Debt - these two cats are going to be bigger players when I get back to this story with Ransom and his PA!Reader
Somehow, I think I covered most of my masterlist with this ask. Oops. 🙃
As for any friendships that go sour, I don't think I really have any nor do I have any planned any time soon. At least, that's my answer for the moment. That could so easily change if my muse gets a spark of inspiration.
Thank you for the ask. I really did to make this as short as I could.
