A few headcanons and confessions I guess (sorry it will be a bit long. Also spoiler for the Roku Novel):
* Azulon definitely called Sozin grandpa or grandfather at some point (first time was a mistake, other times were to piss him off)
* The design of Khandro makes me think that one of his parents is from the Water Tribes (or that he is a result of Kuruk hedonistic lifestyle although it would be impossible )
* While the reason for why Roku appear as an old man compared to his past lives is because there was no design for a young version of him yet, I want to believe that because of the volcanic eruption all illustration of him as young man that he must have had were destroyed so they had to make a statue of him as an old man which compels him to appear as one to not confuse his successor
* Aang asked Roku at one point if Flameo Hotman is a real slang in the Fire Nation. Roku wanted to say no at first but then told him yes because he remembered his conversation with Gyatso when they were young and thought that it would be funny to perpetuate Gyatso's small legacy
* Also in the Roku novel, while I am all for Gyatso calling out the Fire Nation for it sexism about not having a woman Fire Lord, I find it quite disrespectful to outright call it morally backwards to Roku's face ( this is not to defend the fire nation)
* In case we get a Kuruk Novel (and I hope so!!), whoever will be the writer will have quite a challenge since we know most of his life and his battles with the added fact that he died in his 30s. It does not leave a lot to write about.
* Maybe Avatar Szeto saw Fire Lord Yosor growing greedy and wanted to quit his role as Grand Advisor in order to put his focus on the other nations (and also because in his eyes the fire nation could sustain itself without him) but was murdered by the Fire Lord in conspiracy with the clans and they kept it hush hush (just a theory!!!)
* I refuse to believe that Sozin died peacefully in his sleep. Nuh uh, I believe in ''No peace for the wicked''. In his last moments, after writing his testament, he was tortured by his own mind about the Friend that he dishonorably left to die in a volcanic eruption and put an end to himself making a bloody mess. Azulon covered everything up and got rid of every witnesses.
* I do not have a problem with Kyoshi's characterisation in the Roku novel and I don't think it is fanon Kyoshi (which I dislike even more). However, I would like to ask to the ones who don't like it how they would have wanted it to be handled (this is an honest question).
* I think the next Roku novel might take place a few years after the first in The Northern Water Tribe and put some emphasis on his problems with waterbending considering the situation with his brother's death. I also hope that it will be better written than the first and that the author is seeing the reviews written here to better himself.
* Koko has asked to do Kyoshi's makeup once. It was awful but Kyoshi wore it proudly to face her enemies despite the laughs she might have received from them.
* Maybe after the Camellia-Peony war, future Fire Lords after Zoryu up until Sozin were taught lessons in dick management to avoid a repeat and not give more power to the clans (in Sozin's case, he took them a little too seriously)
* I want Yangchen's special tea

Avatar's sexuality + gender headcanons:
What motivates me by making this is all thanks to this post! (<- love you op /p). I'll be sharing my own headcanons for all these avatars (excluding Salai, and Gun unfortunately - I don't know these guys that very well despite I already explored their wiki a couple of times TvT). However, there are some headcanons that doesn't exactly revolves around their sexuality and gender, and there could be spoilers as well. So beware of that!!
You can even share yours in reblogs or comment under my post! Happy pride month guys!! <3
Wan
Cis-male, He/Him/His
Bi, on the aro-spec (demiromantic)
Formed a beautiful, emotional bond with Jaya. Despite how different they are in personality departments, Wan has always adored him but has a hard time expressing his endearment towards him [Jaya relates as well].
In their short reunion, when they haven't seen each other for 2 years - Wan stiffened when Jaya hugs him tightly, he grins widely while a red blush slowly creeps in across his face.
They never get to spend time with each other as they used to though. Grief struck him greatly when he starts to bargain, there was so much time yet there's little he can do. There was once a man he knew, loved adored. Now, he was nowhere to be seen.
While he does enjoy each company from different genders, he couldn't let his walls down and be completely vulnerable towards them. The slightest attraction is immediately met with suppression, leading the other party be confused towards his nervous and timid demeanor.
He would rather die alone than dragging someone with him in this war he has to fight against. He still hasn't accept that the fact Jaya is gone because of him, because he couldn't save them all in time.
Szeto
Demiboy, He/Him/His
Pan, on the ace-spec (apothisexual)
Known in front of the public's eye for being such a honest man, there are some things he always kept to himself that he couldn't bring those to let it be exposed [he finds it quite embarrassing].
His relationship with Firelord Yosor has always been strictly professional but there were also some unresolved romantic tension between them both, in rare occasions, Szeto would have his clipboard be pressed against his lips nervously while standing close to Yosor, who would rub the back of his neck shyly.
When subtly asking if he ever wants to be in a romantic relationship, he'll respond; "I'll consider it, sure. I wouldn't mind to be with someone who loves me just as I love them as well." with a tiny smile.
..Which is all up for interpretation since he never specified whether his romantic interest can be a man or woman [although, rumor says that the relationship between him and Fire Lord Yosor are so much more, then meets the eye].
But with a well crafted image, and story - he is intriguing as he is mysterious in a way. People can theorize all they want but what they all had in an agreement is that his literature is fantastic.
Yangchen
Cis-female, She/Her/Hers
AroAce (spectrum)
(I am unfortunately not that knowledge about her, so forgive me if all of these are mischaracterizations ToT) While yes, finding Kavik, well, indeed quite attractive - there wasn't a time or the right place to tell him that she loves him.
Uncertainty has always choke her, never the one to be keen in relationships. The thought of being one doesn't disgust her but she couldn't prioritize it, especially her position has people always constantly need her attention.
But Kavik? Her future is unknown, there could be a hassle after a hassle for all she knows but him being in hers - him being there for every step she takes? Him for supporting her on? Him to always have her bring up to her feet?
It would be really lovely, endearing even.
Similarly like Szeto's case, its all up for interpretation. The world only know her as a holy figure, this divine and graceful avatar - Kavik knew the real her. They're the only ones who knew what's their relationship heading towards to, even if it takes so much patience and trust to rebuild again.
Kuruk
Cis-male, He/Him/His
Bi, female lean
Actually, he's quite unsure of himself if he's even bisexual if you considered his up-bringings. However, he does travel and not only learn about the elements but even their culture differences. It took a long time for his mindset to reboot (although the internalized homphobia definitely left a huge impact on him).
But due to his fights against the spirits, spiraling himself in depression, and never has the time to find peace in his later life - not only this dude struggle a lot with his image but can't seem for the life of him if he actually likes men or not. It is left with "I enjoy the company." statement.
He is supportive and understanding of Ummi, who comes out to him as trans (mtf) before they could start dating and held the same love to her as before.
He was about to leave the past behind him, and start a new one with Ummi - he was gonna be grateful, he was gonna be better not only as a man but as the Avatar as well.. He relapsed once she's stripped away from his life, and couldn't be returned back.
He couldn't hug her and lift her off her feet to spin her around happily. So every once in a while, he gets comforted and be embraced by Yangchen who witnessed it all but she couldn't remove the pain that Kuruk still has deep down inside.
Kyoshi
Cis-female, she/her/hers
Bi (canonly), on the ace-spec (demisexual)
(I am not interested in Kyoshi at all, so again with the apology - theres gonna be mischaracterizations 😭) Because of the way she's treated especially while growing up, she never thought she could be loved by someone romantically. I mean, who would love a servant?
At least, not until Yun and Rangi comes to the picture..
And her life as a content servant who wanted to live comfortably morphs into as an Avatar she didn't want to become! Huzzah! /hj <- okay but there was never a day she thought she could be dating someone who not only wishes happiness only for her, not the avatar, but is willing to be by her side no matter what.
She loves Rangi with all of her heart but a part of it wishes that Yun didn't turn out the way he is. She always often visit his grave, and contemplates that things could've been different - there were so many what ifs, there were so many choices that could've been carefully chosen.. She always bring flowers with her, and place it on his grave everytime. She still held love for someone she lost.
In her later life, where Rangi couldn't keep up with her. Kyoshi is there to kiss her knuckles softly, tears rolling down across her face. She is her purpose to keep on living yet she's slowly dying in front of her. She'd spent the rest of her life, thinking about her constantly. Reminiscing the past she has with her. When Koko slowly adapts to become her daughter - she would tell her stories about her and Rangi which makes Koko fully believed that Rangi is her mother as well, just like Kyoshi is towards her.
Roku
Transman, he/him/his
Pansexual
Struggled a lot with gender dysphoria (doesn't help the fact his mind is plague by self-doubts). However, his parents were kind towards him, and doesn't dismiss it as "You're just a kid, it will pass." letting him dress himself masculine, which he finds himself most comfortable in. His journey to become a young man is easy, and its all thanks to his loving parents who were ready to lend an ear to listen carefully about his personal thoughts and doing the best they can to help him (the projection is crazy).
He comes out to Sozin about it, and Sozin is happy for him. Although, he did find it difficult at first since its a new change and there were a couple of accidental slip-ups - its good enough to know that Sozin actually wants Roku to be really comfortable within himself.
But because he is also a young lad, there was too much unresolved romantic tension between them both. The deja vu is insane, at least, for Szeto (who had to keep himself in check everytime Roku is oblivious towards Sozin's flirty tendencies. He was suffering every second of it).
While traveling, and understanding culture differences to not only enhance his bending - he had some couple of hook ups there, and there. Letting himself relax a bit, and savor the moment as he is gently taken care of (mind you, this headcannon alone is coming from someone who is aegosexual lol!!)
Coming back home, with his no-longer low self-esteem - able to finally ask Ta Min out, to which Ta Min agrees ecstatically. Those months of dating each other, Ta Min is the first one to propose and Roku accepts it with a delighted, tearful face. Both partners are fortunate, and proud to be each other's wife and husband.
But oh my gosh, the unresolved romantic tension he had with Sozin is finally resolved when Roku realized that Sozin is down bad for him. That their entire situationship is the sole reason why the 100 year old war started. /j okay, but after everything Roku gone through, he couldn't help but maybe, just maybe, he pondered that there could've been at least another situation where he and Sozin ended in good terms. Firmly gripping the once artifact that is dear to him, is meaningless in Sozin's behalf.
I can't do Aang, and Korra. The headcanons are already established by the canon sources.. So, I'm so sorry for those who are Aang and Korra enjoyers 💔 There is always next time if I can actually think uniquely. Also, this is so LONG oh my gosh 😭😭😭

Bleach Captains if they were in the Avatar World: Part I
This is a short summary of how various Bleach characters could be fused into the Avatar universe, with regards to their powers and abilities, and how they would fit in the world of Avatar. Additionally, snippets about how the lore of the Bleach universe might fit in with the lore of the avatar universe. Here is a link to part 2 and part 3
Yamamoto
The most powerful firebender in recorded history whose strength surpassed the Avatar's. His unmatched prowess with flame allows him to not just produce vast quantities of fire, but also directly manipulate the volatile element (similar to how a waterbender bends water); additionally, he can control his inner flame to allow him to maintaining his mental and physical state (in a similar manner to how Kyoshi lived hundreds of years). He left the Fire Nation and founded the Soul Society during the reign of Fire Lord Yosor, during this time of great upheaval many people, from all nations flocked to the Soul Society, under the protection of the most powerful and dangerous warriors at the time. Since that day, the Soul Society has remained as a neutral fifth nation, despite many external attempts to "unite" it with both the Fire Nation and the Earth Kingdom.
Soi Fon
The Fon Clan were originally a group of Air Nomads who were captured and subjugated by the Shihoin Clan before the era of Avatar Szeto, when the Soul Society was founded the Shihoin Clan brought along the Fon Clan as their retainers. As the centuries pass nothing remains of the Fon's nomadic heritage other than their bending, with Soi Fon being one of the last remaining air benders and the 9th clan head. She utilises her bending to manipulate the air currents and pressure around her body, allowing her to move at speeds faster than the human eye can see. She carries a short blade on her back, and wears a black and gold gauntlet with a middle finger stinger; the stinger contains a poison which can kill with two stabs. Her most powerful technique involves encircling her body with a hyper-sonic vortex of air, once created she can maintain this vortex indefinitely.
Gin Ichimaru
An incredibly cunning earthbender; without warning he can rapidly move the ground under his opponents feet, which he uses to create openings to strike with his blade. However, his blade is where his true power lies, he claims that he has mastered metalbending a particular alloy which forms his blade. It appears as though he thins and stretches his blade allowing him to lunge and strike at opponents from great distances. However this is a lie, he has actually mastered bending a the dust of a rare substance, which is both extremely poisonous and capable of being compressed into a dense blade. During battle, he earthbends his blade expanding the dust at incredible speed to slice through his opponents before returning all of the substance to it's original blade form (to keep the poisonous nature of the blade a secret). The top-speed of his dust expansion technique is faster than the human eye can follow, however he only unleashes the true speed in the last moments of a strike, to keep his opponent's off-guard and guarantee a hit.
Unohana Retsu
The first and most brutal bloodbender in history, in every nation she was regarded as the most heinous villain alive, bringing slaughter and death wherever she went. In battle, her used a large curved blade to slice open her opponents, before draining the blood from their body through the newly formed wound; she would then use this new blood to create razor thin sweeping arcs of blood to carve through yet more opponents, thus repeating the cycle. Additionally, she used her bloodbending on herself, forcibly moving her body at incredible speeds to make her one of the deadliest swordsman in the world. However, as the decades passed (after the Soul Society was formed) the stories about this monster faded over time, eventually becoming myth and legend. This is because Unohana forsook her murderous ways and instead utilised her bloodbending with her natural waterbending healing to become one of the most powerful healers in the world. As a conseqeunce over this mastery of healing and self-bloodbending Unohana has successfully extended her lifespan by hundreds of years and granted herself eternal youth.
Sosuke Aizen
A charismatic and intelligent waterbender who has completely mastered spirit bending and seeks to use this ability to transform himself beyond his present human body. As a water bender his control over the element is so fine that he can create illusions to manipulate his opponents. He controls the water vapour in the air to diffuse and reflect light to create a visual component to his illusions; he vibrates the water molecules in the air to produce pressure waves to either create false sounds or mask real sounds. However, it is his studies into the spirit realm and spirit bending are what make him exceptionally dangerous; Aizen came to the conclusion that there is no single spirit (other than Vaatu) which is stronger than Raava. Therefore, to surpass the Avatar he would need to forge a new spirit by amalgamating the souls of humans and lesser spirits. Through the process of creation, this forged spirits will would be subjugated by Aizen's own will, thus when he merges with the amalgam Aizen will retain his sense of self.

Preview for Day 7: "Wait for Me"
@kataang-week a short preview of a ficlet
“... Aaaand, done!”
Aang knew it would be impolite to cheer, even though he was alone in the quiet little room where he handled the “Avatar stuff” that mainly required reading and writing long, long memos.
But as he rolled up the scroll bearing his signature and placed it in the pouch of a messenger hawk bound for King Kuei, all he felt was relief. Finally, all the meetings, speeches and paperwork that needed his attention had been taken care of and he could actually relax. Maybe even take a nap in the middle of the day or go for a long ride on Appa without having to worry about being late for an important appointment.
He stood up and stretched before wandering to the window. He leaned out and breathed deep, looking out onto the main street of the Cranefish Town business district, where he, Katara and Sokka had their home. The town was really growing up around them. Their beautiful two-story residence had been the most notable house on the street when the three of them first moved in after the war between Benders and Nonbenders five years earlier, it now was a quaint little townhome dwarfed by estates and towering buildings.
Aang was smilingly watching a few children play a game using a combination of Earthbending and Waterbending that resulted in all of the kids being covered in a layer of mud when he saw a streak of black coming right toward him. He jumped in surprise when the streak got closer and he recognized it as a messenger hawk from the aviary of the Fire Nation Royal Palace. All of those hawks were dark as night and had threads of gold woven around their talons to which were affixed pouches bearing the Fire Nation emblem.
As the hawk slowed, circled and then made a beeline for Aang’s open window, he wondered what the news was from Zuko. Last he’d heard from his friend, he was up to his topknot in preparations for his wedding to his fiancee, Mai. In fact, Aang, Katara and some of the friends who’d fought alongside him at the end of the 100-year war were set to travel to the Fire Nation for the official betrothal ceremony.
Aang was both happy for his friends and a little nervous. He would be the first Avatar in more than 100 years to give the ‘Avatar’s Blessing’ that had been part of Fire Lord betrothal ceremonies for millennia. For obvious reasons, Avatar Roku had not given the Blessing at Fire Lord Sozin’s betrothal ceremony. Aang had to have a talk with Avatar Szeto, who had officiated for the nuptials Fire Lord Yosor, to get all the particulars of what should be done.
“Wonder what this is about,” Aang murmured as the hawk settled down and allowed him to pluck the scroll that protruded from the little pouch. “Maybe he just wants to be sure I talked to Szeto and I know about the Incantation of the Tigerdillo. Hope my throat will be up to it ...”
The messenger hawk was perched on the windowsill preening itself and Aang absently flipped it a rice cracker that it caught in midair. Unrolling the scroll, Aang read the scrawled writing quickly.
Aang,
Please come to the palace as soon as you can. I need your help. Without it, the wedding won’t happen.
Zuko

Fire Nation Clans | The Shadow of Kyoshi
Although the Fire Nation’s early warlords were united under the banner of the Fire Lord, many were allowed to establish noble clans, retain household troops, and rule over their home islands.
The Fire Nation almost collapsed from internal strife during Fire Lord Yosor’s reign. Many clans rose up in arms to fight over resources during this time of great need. This was when Avatar Szeto stepped in to save his nation by centralizing the Fire Lord’s power and brokered peace between rival clans.
By Avatar Kyoshi’s time, however, this hard-won peace was once again threatened due to brewing internal crisis.

New Lore in The Shadow of Kyoshi
Shadow of Kyoshi reveals a LOT of cool new Avatar lore, especially on the Fire Nation and Avatar’s Szeto, Yangchen and Kuruk. I’ve compiled some of the most important or interesting information below the cut, they don’t have much to do with the main plot of the book for the most part but I’ve marked some extremely significant ones with spoiler warnings just in case.
On the Fire Nation:
The country now called the Fire Nation is actually pretty recent, and was previously made up of multiple warring clans and factions controlling their own islands or small territories.
Notorious warlords would periodically rise to power over different factions and fight against each other in devastating battles. One in particular is mentioned, Toz.
After unification, the clan leaders became the new nobility but retained enough independence and power to keep up their feuds and maintain political influence over the Fire Lord. This would nearly lead to the dissolution of the Fire Nation at least twice.
Many Fire Nation historians and courtiers believe that Avatar Szeto, Yangchen’s predecessor, was the main factor in holding the country together under Lord Yosor’s reign.
We already know that a Fire National’s topknot is a sign of honor and rank and that cutting it is the ultimate mark of dishono, but even touching the hair of someone you aren’t related to (in public at least) is extremely insulting.
The palace has a turtle duck pond at this point, and the description makes it seem likely that it is the same one Zuko and Ursa visit.
Some fire benders, or at least ones trained to be Fire Sages, can channel heat through a patients energy pathways and heal spiritual and possibly some physical injuries to a degree.
{SPOILERS for the end of the book} it is strongly hinted that the current Fire Lord will begin the process of breaking the clan’s traditional power and roles and centralizing it under himself, eventually enabling Sozin to begin his conquests and have complete control over the nation.
On Avatar Szeto:
Avatar Szeto was able to stabilize the Fire Nation in an unconventional manner: by working as a court bureaucrat and tying his achievements directly to the Fire Lord’s hold on the throne.
He insisted on being treated like a normal civil servant, and was able to rise to the position of Grand Advisor by the merit of his diplomatic and accounting skills. As Grand Advisor he was able to smooth over the greatest conflicts between rival clans and created a long lasting peace.
A religious holiday was created to honor him, and much of the plot of the book takes place during it.
On Avatar Yangchen
A lot was already revealed about Yangchen in both the comics and Rise of Kyoshi, like the fact that she was widely beloved and often considered to be the ‘ideal’ Avatar
However, in this book she confesses that she actually made some grave errors, continuing the cycle of new Avatars having to clean up messes caused by the previous Avatar’s actions.
{SPOILERS for the end of the book} In Yangchen’s case, she focused far too much on the human world and neglected the spirit world. At the end of her life she realized her mistake but it was too late to fix the unbalance she had created.
Interestingly, Kyoshi thinks Yangchen looks a great deal like her mother, even beyond the tattoos and hair/clothing styles. Maybe they’re related in some way?
On Avatar Kuruk
Kuruk seemed to actually have been something of a bending savant. His experience as a waterbender influenced the way he saw the other forms of bending, letting him “flow” from one to the next without having to conform to a single style each time he wanted to bend a different element. He even invented at least one new technique, an airbending “cushion” that could move heavy objects with ease.
Jianzhu initially befriended Kuruk because he agreed with the the Avatar’s unconventional methods, despite being thought of as “prissy” initially.
Kuruk fell hard for Hei-Ran at first sight. She turned him down, but hinted that a romance might not be out of the question once she was off duty.
The island where Kuruk entered the Avatar State for the first time and subsequently submerged was actually a holy site, where Avatar Yangchen had waterbended for the very first time.
{SPOILERS for the end of the book} As a fully realized Avatar, Kuruk began having dreams of enraged spirits attempting to break into the physical world through”cracks” between planes. These incursions were a result of Yangchen’s neglect, and the “cracks” were created by the spirit Father Glowworm from the first book.
Kuruk began to travel into the spirit world in his corporeal form to hunt down and kill the spirits before they could harm any other humans. Each fight resulted in psychological, spiritual, and some physical damage.
The drinking, philandering, and partying that he became notorious for were actually his attempts to cope with his trauma and hide it from his friends. The damage on his body and spirit is also what caused his death at only 33 years old.

Some canon facts:
—Zuko is a nerd
—Zuko stans peace
—Zuko’s childhood gave him an allergy to violence
—Zuko is a big supporter of the Avatar as both a person and a concept
—Zuko cares about the Fire Nation and wants to make it better
And so, in conclusion:
—Fire Lord Zuko stans Avatar Szeto
—He reads every Szeto biography and writes anonymous papers about Szeto’s philosophies, methods, and life, but everyone knows these papers are by the nerdy Fire Lord (the Fire Nerd?)
—Zuko learns accounting just so he can be like Szeto. His fire guards are like, “But why accounting? Why not lavabending?” and Zuko is like wow you don’t get me at all.
—He has a bust of Szeto made which he puts in the throne room. Many people don’t think that’s appropriate since Szeto was not of royal blood but Zuko could not care less. He would put up a poster of Szeto in his dorm room if he had one.
—When he asks his ancestors for strength, he mostly means Szeto.
—Zuko doesn’t talk about how he secretly believes Avatar Szeto and Fire Lord Yosor were together, because if he talked about that then people might figure out he wants there to be another very special alliance between an Avatar and a Fire Lord.
—Sozin had suppressed celebration of the Festival of Szeto, and Zuko not only encourages its resurgence, he makes it a huge national holiday.
—Zuko stans an ancient beaurocrat and you can’t tell me otherwise.

This is Avatar Szeto
Previously only referred to as Yangchen's Predecessor, The Shadow of Kyoshi finally gives us some detail on who he was and what he did. Szeto was the Fire Avatar one cycle before Roku, during Fire Lord Yosor's reign.
After a childhood of plague and natural disasters, Szeto rescued the Fire Nation from the verge of collapse. He settled clan wars through diplomatic solutions and rose in the ranks of government rather than using his Avatarhood for unfair advantages. He gave government relief to the lower class in times of famine.
now stop calling him jafar

I can nottttt keep up with the fn royals sooo.. how many of them are there? that are actually canon, whether shown or mentioned?
I GET TO INFO POST ABOUT THE FIRE NATION ROYAL FAMILY YAY!!!!
the amount of fire nation royals are actually pretty vague unless you search through the walls of text on the online wiki page. (i love you atla wiki contributors) so i feel like i should just list off the fire lords and their immediate family for convenience
- the first fire lord
Shown in the second Smoke and Shadow comic, no known family, shared power with a council of fire sages, is not named :(
- fire lord yosor
mentioned in The Shadow of Kyoshi, no known family, allies with avatar szeto
- fire lord gonryu
mentioned in The Dawn of Yangchen, no known family, had beef with the Earth King of his time
- fire lord chaeryu
mentioned in The Shadow of Kyoshi, a man whore with multiple lovers, two of them being Sulan and Huazo, also had two sons named Zoryu and Chaejin, his reign was apparently a good time for agriculture
- fire lord zoryu
actually has dialogue in the Kyoshi novels (holy shit), the fire lord directly after chaeryu, had diabolical beef with his brother, and centralized the power in the fire nation
- fire lord taiso
has dialogue in The Reckoning of Roku, the father of zeisan and sozin, husband to hazei, oversaw a growth of industrialization and prosperity in the fire nation, and the outer islands pissed him off to the point he sent the fire navy to sit them the fuck down
-
The fire lords succeeding these ones are otherwise well known, with them being fire lord sozin, fire lord azulon, fire lord ozai, fire lord zuko, and then fire lord izumi. Its also safe to guess that Iroh II would be the fire lord after izumi

Avatar: The Shadow of Kyoshi spoilers (chapters 5-7)....
In which Kyoshi gets a history lesson about the Fire Nation and attends a party.
The Story so far.....
Chapter 5
-Instead of meeting the Fire Lord like she assumed, Kyoshi is introduced to Chancellor Dairin, Head Palace Historian. As Dairin gives her a tour of a gallery filled with past Fire Lords and Fire Avatars, Kyoshi is drawn to a Fire Avatar (presumably Yangchen’s predecessor) that the festival is named after: Avatar Szeto.
The History of Avatar Szeto
According to Dairin, Avatar Szeto was born in a time when the Fire Nation was on the verge of collapse economically due to plague, natural disasters, and the Fire Lord (Fire Lord Yosor) and the high rank nobles fighting amongst themselves over land and resources. The chaos also led to the spirits getting angry.
Wanting to help his nation, Szeto applied for a government job and worked his way up to become a minister of the Royal Court. (he insisted that be treated the same as everyone else at his job instead using his Avatar status to get there faster.). Once he was promoted to Grand Advisor, Szeto used his position to fix the Fire Nation from within and put a to stop the fighting, thus saving the nation from destroying itself. His story impresses Kyoshi.
-During the tour Kyoshi comes across a mural of the previous Fire Lord, Lord Chearyu, and noticed that his portrait is different than the other lords by having a more vegetation theme and having flowers with an unknown significance. When Kyoshi asks about it, Dairin gets flustered and immediately ends the tour. (Hmmm...)
-When the two are alone, Kyoshi and Rangi talk about Yun and have different opinions on how to approach it. We know Kyoshi is doing whatever she can think of to find him and figure out what’s wrong with him (Kyoshi thinks it’s something spirit related. Going by the prologue she’s on the right track), but Rangi believes that it’s probably best to let him come to them on his own terms because it sounds like he doesn’t want to be found.
- Kyoshi learns that Rangi has been communicating with Jinpa on her well-being (to which Jinpa was more than happy to disclose as revenge for Kyoshi being a jerk to him in the past), leading Rangi to assign herself as Kyoshi’s caretaker. As first act as caretaker, Rangi puts Kyoshi through Firebending exercises. Classic Rangi.
Chapter 6
-Kyoshi does not dress formally even when she’s the guest of honour.
-According to Rangi, the Fire Nation always watches its citizens and nobles when compared to the Earth Kingdom, which is why it’s important to dress well at a party. Rangi helps Kyoshi look passable.
-While at the party Kyoshi runs into Lu Beifong (with Earth Sages that have a negative opinion on Kyoshi) and an acquaintance of his, Governor Shing. It turns out Kyoshi has history with him because she saved his region and the citizens from daofei raid while he was busy buying their land and making them work for him when they can barely care for themselves due the raids. Long story short, Kyoshi insults Shing for complaining how she “ruined” him. Kyoshi really needs learn how to play nice with nobles.
Chapter 7
-Rangi’s mother, Hei Ran, makes her appearance at the party. She’s been slowly recovering since the “Jianzhu’s poisoned his enemies at a dinner party stop them them from taking the Avatar from his custody.” incident and mostly lost her ability to Firebend. Hei Ran approaches Kyoshi and offers her apology for her involvement in Jianzhu’s schemes and her inaction for helping Yun and Kyoshi when they needed it. Kyoshi forgives her and she can make it up to her by getting better.
Kyoshi is then introduced to Sifu Atuat, Hei-Ran’s doctor and one of the greatest healers int he Norhern Tribe. She is also the sister of Amak. Personality wise she’s arrogant and blunt.
-Airbenders still make great entertainers at parties.
-The chapter ends with Kyoshi embarrassing herself by introducing herself to Fire Lord only to be told that he’s not the Fire Lord. Oops.
To be continued......

Szeto was the Fire Nation Avatar preceding Avatar Yangchen. Living in an era of immense crisis that threatened to destroy the Fire Nation, Szeto saved his home country by becoming a bureaucrat, diplomat, and accountant in service of Fire Lord Yosor. Eventually rising to Grand Advisor, Szeto greatly strengthened the Fire Nation's government, restored economic balance, and set up programs to aid the poor and needy.[1]
Holy shit, he was the ultimate badass.
Really do not get the arguments about who the strongest avatar is. Like, the answer is clearly Szeto. Dude canonically worked as court bureaucrat, meaning he not only mastered the four elements but on top of that also administrative law. Administrative law. This is a man to fear.

Scrapped excerpt of a love in the eye of the hurricane
Fire Lord Yosor had sent his guard to check up on his son throughout the day. Not that he didn't trust the children, he could tell that four of the air nomad children, odd as it felt to think, could hold themselves in battle and defend themselves if needed. This was more for him and his nerves. The guard would come back every time looking awfully bemused and he would report.
“They’re chasing after a bird, Sir.”
“I think one of the red pandas that sat perched on one of the girls shoulders exchanged a rice cake for a piece of cloth and now they’re chasing it down thinking it was stolen, Sir.”
“They saved a koala sheep calf that had fallen into the river, Sir. I was about to intervene when The Prince helped with a quickly thought out plan.”

More ocs pls. 🥺
I really liked the team Yangchen thing you got going on 🥰🥰
woo thanks!! sooo i'm going to a) elaborate on past characters and b) introduce Le Kids
Le Kids: michiko and tomiko, grandchildren of fire lord yosor aka szeto's annoying bestie, and xia's cousins
(both are firebenders and would not hesitate to start a fight. they are also nine.)
yuka is just kinda ://// at the entirety of everything and v cynical because he's been through a lot of near-death experiences and is naturally the kind of depressed guy who just wants out of existing. he nearly dies on at least 69 separate occasions, and despite this lives to about 70 with only a series of increasingly bad scars to show for it
him at any given time:
[id: four images. the first three show depressed men with their heads in their hands. the fourth shows a woman holding a mug of coffee. /end id]
(he also likes wearing coats literally anywhere he goes)
