rhaenyra is as much of a girl’s girl as the society she lives in allows her to be.
book wise she has multiple ladies in waiting (not just alicent, which is a grave oversight in the show), one of which is said to have gouged out her own eyes at the sight of rhaenyra’s murder. that doesn’t sound like someone who isn’t capable of inspiring loyalty from the women around them. rhaenys fully and wholeheartedly supported rhaenyra and her cause, even dying in her attempts to make her the first queen regnant of the seven kingdoms. laena betrothed her daughters to rhaenyra’s sons, ensuring that her blood sat both the iron throne and the driftwood throne, all while being a pretty difficult backing to break due to the wealth and naval power of the velaryons (all of this in spite of the bastardy rumors surrounding jace and luke). the agreement also puts forward how politically astute rhaenyra is, and how she didn’t just rely on her father’s word to put her on the throne. she made alliances using her sons hand in marriage; borros baratheon might not have declared for aegon had a proposal taken place the night luke brought rhaenyra’s terms. baela was only held back from partaking in the many battles because of her dragon’s size, otherwise she would have been right beside her betrothed fighting for rhaenyra. there’s even a chance that rhaena would have joined had she had a rideable dragon of her own. she had mysaria, a former sex worker, as her mistress of whisperers, a very esteemed position on her small council. the cases of rosby and stokeworth have no bearing on this, because they were never named as heirs (along with being literal children during a war time) which is what rhaenyra was using as the basis for her rulership. jeyne arryn knew her own position as lady of the eyrie would be challenged (again) if aegon stepped over rhaenyra and subsequently supported her cause. important women like alysanne blackwood and sabitha frey were key players in cregan’s army.
show wise she is shown in the season two trailer to be taking advice from rhaenys and allowing her to be a part of the war efforts. baela and rhaena are explicitly included on her war council, with rhaena as her cupbearer. moondancer is no longer a hardly rideable dragon and baela seems to be taking direct part in the war. rhaenyra is already shown in a set picture to be communicating with mysaria (whether that’s discussing blood and cheese, the aftermath of it, or something entirely different remains to be seen). these are not the acts of someone who hated other women, and using her falling out with alicent and the resulting enmity between them (that is almost completely one-sided due to the difference in power dynamics) as an excuse to otherwise is worse than strange, considering alicent’s canonical goal was to seat her son, a known violent misogynist, on the throne over a woman who was the named heir to the king.
the green’s entire ideological standpoint is that women cannot rule, ever, for it would make the main members of the green’s powerless, and any other lord or heir’s claim would be up for debate if they have an elder sister. if the iron throne had truly been aegon’s by right alicent, otto, and criston would not have left viserys’ body to rot for days AND they would have had the backing of most of the houses. if alicent had cared more for her children’s wellbeing she would have convened a great council before the war began or considered any other effort that would not lead to her children fighting on dragonback. rhaenyra’s (peaceful) ascension would have at least started the necessary changes needed to grant women more authority and (!) autonomy in the seven kingdoms. queen consorts had significantly less influence after her murder, along with the targaryen’s losing their ability to hatch dragons. rhaenyra does not need to be a feminist for her cause to be inherently feminist by proxy.
rhaenyra was not a feminist, but she did have great love for other women. it’s disingenuous at best and downright insulting at worst to try to paint her as anything else. she inspired loyalty even after her murder. if the black’s cause had truly relied on putting rhaenyra on the throne, her armies would have disbanded once she was dead. instead corlys and larys poisoned aegon, with rhaenyra’s son being placed on the throne afterwards. it was ultimately about bloodlines in the end. jaehaera suffered the unfortunate consequences of an ambitious hand because of her status as aegon’s daughter. it plays directly into how alicent outlived her entire family, besides jaehaera, and went mad with grief, learning to hate the color green. how greed and the allure of power can and will corrupt those who choose to make that a priority in their lives, and how the innocent will usually pay the price for those sins.

[Rhaenyra] became fond and more than fond of her good-sister Lady Laena. With Driftmark and Dragonstone so close, Daemon and Laena oft visited with the princess, and her with them. […]
In 118 AC, with the blessing of King Viserys, Rhaenyra announced the betrothal of her two eldest sons to the daughters of Prince Daemon and Lady Laena. Jacaerys was four and Lucerys three, the girls two.

∯ C H A P T E R 2 : The Antefact
It had been precisely 136 years since the Conquest of Aegon Targaryen when the Seven Kingdoms once again found themselves in the throes of turmoil, bracing for the arrival of another awe-inspiring tempest, bearing the same name as its predecessor. The highly anticipated union between Prince Aegon Targaryen and Lady Daenaera Velaryon was a grand spectacle, unparalleled and captivating the hearts of all fortunate enough to bear witness. The Dragonpit, the sole edifice in the entire capital city capable of accommodating the nearly seventy thousand guests, overflowed with exuberance and anticipation as the two young lovers made their entrance. - (x)

Everyone arguing about Stannis, JonCon, Jaime, god forbid Jorah being the 1000th commander of the NW….when it will be Jon again 🌚
#btw this is not stannerism like i do have legitimate reasons why i think it will be jon at the end#i think an interesting part of jon’s politiking as LC is him realizing how deep the rot is in the watch#he spends an entire book - agot - realizing that he institution he spent his childhood idolizing is not so glorious#he spends the next book directly confronting the issues that come with being a good man ( helping gilly#and being a true man to the watch and starting to notice the cracks in the system#and then asos is like the turning point you know?#adwd is him trying to fix the watch from within but failing imo because as i said the rot is far deeper#it doesnt matter how many people you replace the watch needs an overhaul - a complete uprooting to the core#which is why i dont like theories of him being a passive bystander as the watch crumbles#its just too narratively juicy if he takes a part in the destruction of the watch coz yknow some things need to be cleansed w/ fire n blood#a nice lil parallel to dany and what shell be doing in the east throughout winds#i like him as the 1000th lc because its a nice round number and thats a bit silly but its also signifying a renewal#Its a blank slate which is essential to jon because he does have a vision for the watch and the wildings!#and he can start from the ground up - and like one of the most underrated themes in jon’s arc is nation building#ive said before that i think the show kinda got it right….like we’ll see a weird mesh of lc of the nw and kbtw as jon’s endgame#I wont get into that now….but i know a lot of jon stans dont want him back at the wall because it seems needlessly cyclical and i get it#and i get that the watch isnt the most glorious place to be…but i really do think its meant to be a vehicle to explore themes of rebirth#and renewal which appear in jon’s arc -think of jon’s messianic framing and the watch being his “new earth” after all is said and done#not so much a place of punishment but a place to find new meaning and exist beyond many societal frameworks#for the cripples bastards and broken things….anywayyyyy lmaoo#asoiaf#jon snow

Queen Alicent had reluctantly agreed to the betrothal of her granddaughter to Rhaenyra’s son, but she had done so without the king’s consent. Aegon II had other ideas. He wished to marry Cassandra Baratheon at once, for “she will give me strong sons, worthy of the Iron Throne.”
— Fire & Blood, The Dying of the Dragons
It’s actually so sad that despite already losing two children, Aegon was so willing to have his last child passed over as his heir. He just can’t fathom the idea of having his daughter be his successor (whether in her own right or through a marriage to Aegon III). He would much rather create new heirs through his anticipated marriage to his betrothed, Cassandra. Those new heirs in question of course being sons.
I can’t even imagine how Jaehaera must’ve felt about her own father essentially wanting to replace her.

Love it when I see the argument that the Targaryens are the only noble house responsible for the suffering of the common people, and things were totally fine and fair before they came to Westeros, when the scene of Aegon holding court in the throne room clearly showed us that, at least as far as King’s Landing is concerned, the no. 1 culprit of the smallfolk’s suffering there is Otto Hightower being a greedy bitch, as usual.

Imagine how priceless it would be to see Daemon going to the mountains of the moon hoping that nothing bad happens to Nettles and that the tribes didn't harm her only to see her be a respected, honored and protected by the communities as well as an entire culture that has been created around her.
Also how do you think the ceremonies would tale place with the young men facing Sheepstealer to be burned as a rite of passage into adulthood? How do you think Nettles would perform the ceremony and how do you think Daemon would react to it as well?
He would be in for such a shock. The only reason why he isn’t jealous of their devotion to her is because he feels the same way 🙌🏽
As far as the ceremony itself goes, I imagine that it takes place sometime at night probably during a full moon(or on the solstice). The create some kind of throne or alter for Nettles somewhere near Sheepstelers liar. There is more than likely ceremonial dancing to kick off things.
Tumblr media
Each of the young men would present Nettles with their offerings (probably their most prized or something they’ve made themselves).
Tumblr media
She blesses them(with sheep's blood)and then sends them into the Sheepstealer’s cave.
Tumblr media
They come back victorious bearing the scorched marks of their bravery and courage or they don’t come back at all🤷🏽‍♀️ Nettles presents them with a little trinket(a stone from Sheepstelers liar which can be used to sharpen their weapons) in turn for their accomplishments. Then a feast ensues(the main course is sheep).
Tumblr media
To be completely honest, Daemon at first is going to think that it’s all bizarre. It's a lot to take in and the rituals seem barbaric to him. Nettles has to remind him of his house words. What the Burned Men are doing may be a bit more rustic than how the Targs do things now, but the connection to fire particularly dragon fire is still there.

TDIOBCB challenge - day 14:
My OTP - Aemond watching Baela playing the harpsichord
"During her childhood, Princess Baela learned to play the lute and then the high harp under the guidance of the renowned Vogarro from Volantis, who had served in the houses of many important Old Blood families, including the heirs of the famous triarchs, Horonno. Although Vogarro believed that the princess possessed a natural talent for music, her inconsistency and lack of discipline in studying technique caused her sister Rhaena to surpass her in playing the harp. However, this observation, although it stung the young girl's pride, did not stop her from continuing to pursue her vocation as a musician, which did not stop at the harp and lute but expanded more and more over the years. She became a master of many other instruments, even those little known to the ears of the nobles of the Crownlands, such as the recorder of the Vale, the zither of the Riverlands, the guitar of the Reach, and she was one of the first musicians outside of the Westerlands to play the harpsichord, making it famous throughout the realm. In addition to her skill in discovering and playing instruments, another talent in which Princess Baela had no rivals in the royal court and all of Westeros was singing. Gifted with a melodious and crystal-clear voice, the princess had the power to enchant an entire hall, as if casting a spell like that of a siren. Ser Addam Velaryon, who during his youth had been sent to Dragonstone to become Prince Daemon's squire, was fortunate enough to attend one of her early singing performances. He described the young princess's voice as the sweetest and most harmonious sound his ears had ever heard, to the point that it could rival, if not surpass, the Maiden's voice herself. Yet, despite her sublime talent and the admiration she received for it, the princess did not like to flaunt it in public and rarely performed in public, reserving her singing for strictly special occasions. The only one to whom she granted the pleasure of hearing her voice and for whom she loved to sing was her uncle Aemond, who was perhaps one of her greatest, if not the greatest, admirers of her singing talent. Many courtiers of the time saw him listening intently and always apart, almost as if not wanting to be seen, while his niece played her harpsichord. Many could not help but notice the rapt and admiring look he had when the princess sang one of his favorite songs and the sparkle that his glass eye emitted as he watched her."

i am elated and overjoyed and so jazzed abt this tv show, do not get me wrong
that said: i am NOT enjoying this portrayal of sally jackson
#pjo tv adaptation#spoilers in tags#no shade to the actress!! the actress is great!!! a couple of the scenes with percy made me tear up!!!!!!#but....ugh i don't know#it's. hm.#it's making her the kind of whimsical to just like. sit in the rain on a fire escape and listen to olivia rodrigo(???)#instead of meeting her still in her work uniform#tired & exhausted but still ready to sit on the bed w percy#and ask him abt everything EXCEPT getting expelled#it's the way she talks to grover#when the book literally says that percy has NEVER heard her be stern before that moment#(also that she just like. argues back w gabe? the toning down of gabe is. hmmmmm. i think its doing her a disservice)#the fact that she doesn't get to say that she didn't want percy to go to camp half-blood?#& like. book sally has a core of steel that i feel like we just. haven't seen?#they made her argumentative but that's kinda the opposite?#also her conversation abt why she named percy perseus....#i LOVE that SHE thinks that but i hate that she says it to percy yknow???#at least in THAT moment#also. FASCINATED by the choice not to have the car get struck by lightning like. hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm#also there's other things here in that like#i feel like they WAY toned down the class stuff w/ percy?#ugh now i'm just getting into other critiques. whatever#but i think those are the adaptational choices that are impacting her too!!#& casting just like. generic white woman#okay. no shade BUT#percy has always been latino to me so like.#generic white woman sally jackson is NOT doing it for me#i keep looking & her & saying who is that#& walker i can buy more bc the emotional resonances he's hitting more for me?#but sally is TRULY not the vibe
