Seven and memories, what'd you say about them? Like as a theme

bro i've said a LOT about seven and memories (i assume you mean memories in general: fair warning, i have not watched past s5e4 or so)

Seven has like a really complex relationship with memories. Even just like the concept of them. He values memories A LOT, he keeps pictures up on his wall where he'll look every single day while he's getting dressed so that he won't forget these things (because I fully, 1000%, without a doubt, GENUINELY believe Seven is scared of forgetting everything again randomly. This is canon I don't care if I don't have proof) and these memories are the reason he keeps going.

But on the other hand, Seven thinks these memories define his personality and are why he's the way he is, when that's not true. Seven is a brilliant demonstration of nature vs nurture, because in "both lives" he is inherently compassionate and caring and sympathetic to other people, he just had to repress that in his past, and couldn't let that show. The Girl in White broke down his walls so easily because he always was a compassionate person. He never would've saved her and never would've left Xuanwu if he wasn't. When he came to Chicken Island with his brain having been fucking factory reset to the system default, he was a kind, trusting, compassionate person. Because that's just who he is. His memories don't define him, but they keep him going. They are his purpose.

Seven's memories are also compared to a certain flower in season 3- the epiphyllum. (or- they're referred to as 'tanhua,' they're epiphyllum oxypetalum) (which I always forget the name of, and spend a goddamn hour looking for!) We see a sequence, surrounded by other things representing his memories, of epiphyllum flowers on a windowsill blooming, and then dying. Epiphyllums bloom only for one single night, and we see them die at sunrise on the windowsill. These flowers symbolize how good things don't last - but on the more positive side, are incredibly lucky to have experienced seeing them bloom, and that short period should be highly treasured, even if it ended so soon. Which. I mean it's pretty blatant here the point they're trying to make about Seven's memories, given this is shown to us near the end of season 3- these good times are over, but that's okay, because they're still worthwhile, and they still mean the world to Seven, and they're worth fighting for - and Seven is always going to fight for these, shown by the ant on the windowsill picking up a fallen petal and walking away with it - Seven will always carry these memories with him.

I can't really think of anything else related to Seven and memories off the top of my head but I've probably said more somewhere in my profile. Memories are a big thing in this show.

concept: house of nightmares is a living being. and for some reason it hates people being close. it hates when people are friendly with each other, comfort one another, etc.
