To my fellow Ace Attorney fans out there, I have a really, really important question. This is kind of lengthy, so buckle up- I tried to keep it as brief as possible. This is about Bridge to a Turnabout (Trials and Tribulations chapter 5), so please don't look if you haven't finished the entire case and don't want spoilers. If you know someone who has, do me a favor and share this with them.
Have you guys ever sat and thought about how Godot is entirely responsible for the events of that case, going back a year in advance? And I mean ENTIRELY. Quick recap, just in case- I need you to think back to Reunion and Turnabout from Justice For All (chapter 2). Morgan Fey was arrested for being an accomplice to murder.
We find out in T&T-5 that, during a visitation period shortly after JFA-2, Pearl told her about the special reservations she had placed a year in advance. Morgan took this information, knowing Dahlia would have been executed by then and that Maya would be in a compromising position at Hazakura Temple, and wrote Pearl the letter detailing her murder plot. Of course, Pearl can't understand the letter at all, so the plan goes off the rails very quickly.
But I feel like not a lot of people remember that the letter was given to Pearl sealed. It's probably a little easy to miss- Pearl mentions that she had stashed it away when she got home, but when she came back to read it later, she was surprised to see that the seal was broken.
Godot had overheard the plans and gone to Kurain Village to inspect the letter himself. Sometime between reading the letter and the events of T&T-5, he enlisted Iris and Misty's help to put a stop to it.
......He put the letter back. Before Pearl even had a chance to read it at all.
You could argue that this was accidental, but he had a FULL YEAR to correct his mistake. Even if Pearl had already read it by the time he got back, it's not like a nine year old is going to remember what it said word-for-word, especially not in a year's time.
Unfortunately, it's hard for me to believe he didn't leave it there on purpose. Quoted from the wiki, "seeing as his chance to save [Maya], as he projected his feeling that he failed to save his girlfriend Mia..."
He willingly endangered the safety of a small child and allowed a threat to be made on the life of Mia's beloved sister just so he could look like a hero and "redeem" himself. And he killed Maya's mother in the process- right in front of her.
Godot subjected the Fey girls to so much unnecessary hurt and trauma just for the sake of stroking his own ego. If his goal was really to do whatever it took to protect his girlfriend's remaining family, he did a piss-poor job of it.
All the art I see of this man- Mia's spirit lovingly by his side. Babysitting the girls and getting into weird uncle hijinks. Would they really have forgiven him so easily? All it would've taken to prevent it all was just to get rid of the letter. He had an entire year to do it. He had multiple chances to fess up and apologize.
Sorry for the rant. It was driving me crazy that nobody seems to acknowledge anything about the letter. I was starting to think that surely, the ENTIRE fandom can't have missed this detail, and that maybe some sort of elaborate prank was being played on me.
Please, share your ideas with me. I want to know how many people have thoughts on this. It'd be an understatement to say that it's been driving me crazy.

my enthusiasm has gradually petered out over the past few days bc i had been so busy + havent been getting enough sleep, but aa2 was a truly amazing experience for me ESPECIALLY the last case, so i still want to dissect my thoughts on it although im not as hyped up as i was right after i finished playing it (i was jumping around and grinning and pacing around my room for hours and shit 😁) i have so many thoughts so im gonna split my review rambling whatever this is into different parts, this one is my thoughts on the first three cases :D
1st case was nothing spectacular.. pretty long for a tutorial level but i guess it was acting as padding for the more dramatic 2nd case.. i guessss. at least it was very funny and not too hard to solve. and it was also trying to be more thorough in teaching the gameplay mechanics during court sessions and making sure players have an idea of what to expect in later cases.. probably... its whatever whatever. at least an amnesic concussion is still the funniest way to reteach a tutorial so im so happy they went with that.
i liked the second case!! i wasnt able to figure out how the clothing box fit into everything until the very end, so i could rly understand wright's panic, bc for a good chunk of the case it really did seem like maya had killed someone. i think this case felt the most 'turnabout' of them all, bc in other cases there were other plausibilities and culprits right from the get-go, but w the way this murder happened in a locked room with (seemingly) only 2 individuals inside, it actually did feel impossible to save maya at first. so it was very satisfying to pick apart the lies and inconsistencies and be able to arrive to the truth. and it was nice to see kurain village, and learn more about the feys in general. and it was nice to see mia again!!! i wasnt sure if she would be coming back or not. mia and maya's reunion at the end of the case was super touching, bc one of the saddest moments in aa1 to me was during the 4th case when maya couldnt channel mia, and was wondering if she would ever be able to see her again.. so it was nice that she was really able to see her again :')
speaking of mia, i dont know if this series will explore this further, but just thinking abt her state of existence is lowkey kinda scary.. like, whats it like being dead? whats the difference between being alive and dead, considering mia is still somewhat mentoring and advising us despite being dead? could a fey, who can just possess another fey like that, be able to steal the body of another fey if they were killed? (this sounds like a possible case in the future, i wonder if this will happen..) will mia be like that forever? will future generations be able to speak to this mia, can she like.... rest? disappear? does she want to? can she? and its also pretty sad too, with how in aa1 when maya wondered if she could see her again; i feel like its less sad to have someone you love die and have that be that, than it is for them to die and you can maybe or maybe not see them again.. like i dunno. i hope this gets explored more, im curious abt it!!
also, mia being in this state of 'is but isnt here' really makes phoenix's character more enriching to me, bc in the first game he lost someone very dear and important to him... except not really. and we never really see him properly grieve mia in any extent if my memory is correct. like he didnt really dwell on it, he had to push thru it in order to defend maya. but then now in the second game, when we compare wright's almost... flippancy towards mia's death to his refusal to even acknowledge edgeworth's 'death'.... its a super interesting difference. this isnt to say that phoenix necessarily values one character over the other, but bc mia isnt necessarily 'gone'... there technically isnt much to mourn? kinda?? so the way we see phoenix behave in this game irt edgeworth, we get to properly see how phoenix behaves in the face of actual loss.. and his answer to loss is to completely reject it. and it works amazingly with gameplay too, bc he's really just compartmentalizing tf out of his issues and being like Nope. Let's Examine This Room Instead :) while maya or pearl just stares at him like 😐 it adds an extremely compelling layer of depth to wright's character!! and these moments of wright's rejection of his loss are done just the perfect amount of times, very seldomly and very restrainfully, that it creates this perfect air of tension throughout the entire game before it finally blows over in the last case. I LOVE IT RRARRGHHHH
pearl's and franziska's introduction to the story were amazing as well! i had no idea what pearl's character would be like... definitely was not expecting her to be mia's vessel #2 😭 but no yes pearl was an infinitely adorable and entertaining character, it is just so so so so awesome to have a tiny child who speaks so elegantly and have such mature tastes, but still be a cute tiny child. i love you pearl. if shes not in the next game im going to be REALLY REALLY SAD....... and franziska came in with just a massive dominating personality like Yes!!! she livened up so much of the game with her presence. im going to give franziska her own post bc she deserves it so ill talk abt her more in depth later.
and of course the ini miney twist... i already said this but the reasoning for the reveal (you cant drive without a license) is fucking IJBOL but ignoring the absurdity of that, it was a really good twist that i didnt see coming but could still be satisfied with. it was also really sad that morgan had to be convicted too, for pearl's sake i had really hoped that tht wouldnt be the case :( all in all the second case was very suspenseful, emotional, and very very good. i really liked it!
and the third case............................................................................
i wanted to put a reaction image here. but i could not find anything that could express the magnitude of my immense disgust. disappointment. resentment. and unhappiness................
i already posted a lot of my main grievances with it in my lb tag, and thinking abt this case again is just self-inflicting psychic damage so ill keep it short. but man did it suck. cuz currently in life i can only play aa like 2/3 days a week and then its back to 4/5 days of work. i did the first two cases in 3 days, worked for the rest of the week, and came back in anticipation bc the second case left off on such a good note. and then to use my 2 free days on a case this shitty... BROOOOOO FUCK THIS SHIT MAN!!! i spent the following days of work just being PISSED AS HELLLL cuz like i wanted to play a better case but now i could seeth as i worked bc of this SHITTY CASE like not only did it suck but it had to be LONG too. not like final case long but normal case long but ugh it sucked sucked sucked. ive said this before but i get they were trying to make the murder seem like a magic trick that we had to figure out the inner workings of, but like.... it just fucking sucked and wasnt well-executed at all. it didnt help that nearly every character in this case was incredibly grating and annoying and the one bearable character, acro, had to be the killer.. also that fucking ventriloquist like why was he standing around in the second day when there was literally nothing to talk to him about? also why did the ringmaster wear max's fucking clothes like wha..... i dont even care anymoreeeee 😭 ok bye bye im gonna gush about the 4th case in a seperate post now cuz that was the best fucking thing ever!!!!!!

Ace Attorney case tier list
so, in the past year, i finished replaying games 1 through 5 for the first time in forever, and also played game 6 for the first time ever
so here’s where i ruthlessly rank each of the cases based on that most scientific metric of all, My Opinions:
OPENING CASES
S-tier: Turnabout Trump (4-1).  I already knew this case, and I still gasped with surprise when Phoenix showed up, and when Kristoph showed his true colors, and when Apollo realized OH SHIT OH FUCK I REALLY AM ACCUSING MY BOSS OF MURDER HUH... what a wonderful, splashy, shockingly concise case to open up the post-O.G. trilogy world.  Marvelous.
A-tier: Turnabout Memories (3-1).  Seeing Mia Fey (finally!) in action is a long-awaited delight; seeing Phoenix being a total dumbass was an unexpected-yet-perfect and fitting delight.
B-tier: The First Turnabout (1-1).  Solid lil’ case with some conventional-but-well-executed humor.  I’ve got a soft spot for Larry Butz.
C-tier: The Lost Turnabout (2-1), The Foreign Turnabout (6-1).  The former’s fine but a little forgettable; the latter has some fun gags (Payne’s ridiculous new outfit, dude absolutely shredding on the mandolin, etc) but is marred by how uh... kinda silly the game’s core conceit is, lol
E-tier: Turnabout Countdown (5-1).  The context surrounding this introduction is just sloppy (badly handled in media res + let’s lowkey retcon game 4 isn’t a great setup), and also the case itself is just. irksome. ted tonate is just fundamentally irritating to look at
FINALE CASES
S-tier: Bridge to the Turnabout (3-5), Turnabout Goodbyes (1-4).  No explanation needed.  God they fuck so hard
A-tier: The Cosmic Turnabout + Turnabout for Tomorrow (5-4 + 5-5), Turnabout Succession (4-4).
The former two cases are what makes AA5 worth it, and they make for a tremendously fun ride.  It fumbles the execution in some notable ways (Apollo’s sudden j’accuse moment feels a little forced/awkward/inadequately foreshadowed, and damn it sure would’ve been nice to know Clay Terran at all before he died, and also The Phantom’s final meltdown could’ve used a bit more emotional heft)... but okay let’s be real, I’m here for Simon Blackquill, and this case gives me so much of him so who gives a shit.  (And Aura!  Condescending obnoxious engineering queen!  I love her!)
As for Turnabout Succession... while I earnestly wish the game had explored more of Klavier’s feelings about this whole setup, and some more emotional beats for Apollo, the case still makes for such a satisfyingly twisty and fun investigation overall (the poison stamp! what a ridiculous murder method! I love it!) that it’s a more-than-worthy finale.
B-tier: Turnabout Revolution (6-5), Farewell, My Turnabout (2-4).
The former does some cool stuff—I particularly like the opening half, where Apollo’s being real snippy and coping with Frankly Bizarre Dad Feelings, and giving Apollo a chance to finally throw down against Phoenix is a blast.  The latter half of the case starts feeling a little... ridiculous? cramped? idk? like, they didn’t do nearly enough foreshadowing about Nahyuta’s whole deal for me to care about his drama, this justice system is so obviously silly and the manner in which the revolution is playing out strains my already-suspended-sky-high disbelief... fun, and flashy, but more noise than signal in the last part, I guess.
As for Farewell, My Turnabout: of course I love Edgeworth rolling back into court goin’ through SOME kind of bizarre emotional arc of Hey I’m Totally Healed Now and obnoxiously preaching about Truth TM.  And it’s cool that the game set up a case where you want to lose.  But the net result is a bit strange tonally—it’s trying set up some kind of message about It’s Not Just About Winning, It’s About Pursuing The Truth, but it feels really muddled when that’s combined with Okay But Maya’s Literally Being Held Hostage Like Right Now, Surely A Reasonable Justice System Has A Process For Dealing With This Obviously Complicated Situation, Right?
but also Franziska takes a fucking bullet (how did I forget about that) and then gets to roll in like Ms. Save The Day so, really, lots of good shit here
FILLER CASES
S-tier: Reunion, and Turnabout (2-2), Turnabout Beginnings (3-4).  Look, the first one gives me all the Fey family drama a girl could ask for, and the latter gives me young Edgeworth being a total shit in an obnoxiously shimmery outfit.  The whole enchilada is here
A+ tier: The Magical Turnabout (6-2).  DELIGHTFUL!  MAGICIAN!  SHENANIGANS!  Like you get to guess the trick behind a magic act as part of the case, how fucking fun is that, and also the Apollo & Athena duo’s chemistry is perfect, the villain is a FANTASTIC bastard, and even the bit characters you meet during the investigation are total delights... Probably the best “standalone” case in the series, in that it doesn’t rely on any emotional connections to previous cases (unlike 2-2 and 3-4) to still totally and completely rule.
A tier: Turnabout Samurai (1-3), Turnabout Reclaimed (5-DLC).
For Turnabout Samurai, I remembered before this replay how delightful the TV SHOW STUDIO investigation and actor-fandom stuff was; I had TOTALLY forgotten Vasquez calling in her mob connections to try and wreck you.  What a fantastic villain; what a fun case.
Turnabout Reclaimed is just good solid goofy nonsense.  Probably receives a boost for me in particular because, yeah, Simon Blackquill.  But then again who isn’t giving cases a boost on that account; they are MISSING OUT
B tier: The Stolen Turnabout (3-2).  Ron and Desirée are so great sighs into hands
C tier: Listing roughly in order of preference: Turnabout Academy (5-3), Turnabout Serenade (4-3), Turnabout Sisters (1-2), Recipe for a Turnabout (3-3), Rite of the Turnabout (6-3), Rise from the Ashes (1-5).
Four of these (5-3, 4-3, 1-2, 3-3) are perfectly solid cases; I just don’t love them quite as much as “thievery hijinks” or “Hollywood hijinks” or other such particularly delightful flavors.  Everyone has a favorite flavor of Jolly Rancher and all that.
Rite of the Turnabout is interesting and connected with the larger themes of the game in a cool way, and makes good use of the divination mechanic.  However, the last bit gets twisty enough to actually be kind of confusing, and said larger themes of the game are... kinda hard for me to take seriously... which, yeah, leads to it feeling a little stilted when it really should be singing.
Rise from the Ashes landed awkwardly for me.  I know it was added well after the first game’s release, and it does a good job of continuing some of the cool stuff from that game—it’s neat, in isolation, to see Phoenix and Edgeworth working together (while still sniping at each other!), and some of the DS-specific mechanics are neat.  However, I just didn’t feel like I learned quite enough about Ema and Lana to care about them like I should, and retconning “(almost certainly true) rumors that Edgeworth was involved in Shady Shit TM” into “actually Edgeworth was totally ignorant of Shady Shit TM, like at worst his crime was willful ignorance / incuriosity, he was just been manipulated by the Police Chief”... makes Edgeworth less interesting to me!  Like, it’s cool to see Edgeworth caught off-guard and under pressure, but I wish the circumstances had been different?  Also Gant’s theme song is annoying as shit, which is petty but hey this is my blog post so
D tier: Turnabout Storyteller (6-4), Turnabout Corner (4-2), Turnabout Big Top (2-3), The Monstrous Turnabout (5-2).
Turnabout Storyteller has some fun gags with My Dude Simon and also Taka, but was heavily marred by Everyone Talking Down To Athena The Entire Fucking Case Oh My God Can You All Just Shut Up.
Turnabout Corner has... lots of fun elements but... look the fucking stolen-panties setup just grates ok
I don’t think I hate Turnabout Big Top the way most people seem to, but I did find the final murder setup more annoying that I remembered this playthrough—bro you were really sure the dude was going to conveniently stand right there and the heavy statue was definitely going to strike a killing blow and not just give the guy a concussion?  ok lol
The Monstrous Turnabout suffers mostly from poor puzzle/investigation design, being too hand-hold-y, and also having a core gimmick/setting that just wasn’t really my thing.  Alas!

yeah i think phoenix and franziskas relationship is so interesting too, bc they way i sort of interpreted it during 3-5 was like. Franziskas thinks they are friends, (not like bffs or anything) and she doesnt really have many friends? but for phoenix, and this is possibly just bc he was completely out of it during that case, franziskas "just some girl" (neutral) he couldnt remember her name. but i think this is also bc not to the same degree as edgeworth obviously, but losing to phoenix was an important part of her growth and character development. AS WELL as how phoenix handled losing at the end of 2-4
god does. he not remember her name. freak. i mean sure hes having a rough time of it but have some respect phoenix, thats your future sister in law. in two ways.
fran considering phoenix as her friend is a take i haven’t actually hear before but it’s an interesting one. my gut reaction is to disagree, and say theyre really only putting up with each other but like. if her metric for friends is edgeworth honestly who knows maybe thats how she is with her friends. she really is so lonely though like. thinking about that year between goodbyes and reunion and turnabout makes me so sad bc. girl is alone. completely. she’s not even a legal adult yet at that point so its like. 17 and alone in another country and then your father is convicted of murder and then your brother is DEAD?? like. arugh. anyway this is why my hc for post trilogy franziska is that she’s in a book club with a bunch of moms because i think it’d be really funny and i want her to have just the most normal ladies in their 40s as her friends.
in terms of aa2 and especially the ending, franziska’s development from is is certainly more subtle than say, edgeworth who changes his entire worldview and it really takes until the end of aai2 for her to really truly have her moment of clarity and acknowledgement of the change shes gone through. i think for franziska, it wasn’t the losing that changes her, but as you said, phoenix’ reaction to his own loss. when franziska lost she just tried to deny it, hide it, refused to acknowledge it’s legitimacy. but phoenix losing and being HAPPY about it is such an important moment for franziska because she’s been taught her whole life that losing is wrong and bad, and she’s convinced herself that she lost edgeworth because he lost, and so her losing just makes her angry. but phoenix being happy showed franziska that it wasn’t losing that was the problem.
in my ideal world where franziska gets to be the protagonist of her own game, i’d finish her arc by having her purposefully lose in court. i think it would be a really nice conclusion for the final big choice of the game to be whether or not she presents a piece of evidence that would convict the defendant, but she realizes that the evidence isnt right, and it’s become clear who the real culprit is. the choice to loose would be powerful and i dunno i just think it’d be a cool twist.

After seeing some Tier List posts around on YouTube, I thought “Why not do something with the franchise Comic Book I love the most?”
Here it is, my Tier list for every Pre-Reboot Archie Sonic saga. Keep in mind that I’m considering the Mecha Sally saga as how it was presented in Archie Sonic Online.

Maya Fey Appreciation Post
(Note: this post was initially made as an entry for the 30 day Ace Attorney Challenge, that you can find here: https://demon-prosecutie.tumblr.com/post/141222773397/i-wanted-to-be-more-active-and-post-new-edits-and. Other things came up, so I never actually ended up finishing the challenge. However, since I had 2 entries that were written up, I decided to edit them and share them with y’all. This is the second one made, but the first one shared.)
Now without further ado, if you’ve visited or are currently following my blog, then you likely are aware of my fondness for Maya Fey. With this post, I wanted to go a bit deeper into why I love her and also go over some traits that I feel are slightly overlooked when examining her character. Maya, overall, is an interesting and absolutely adorable character. Although she is a generally popular character, I can’t help but feel that she’s a bit underrated as some people reduce her personality to burger jokes. It’s not a huge deal seeing as one of Maya’s character traits is that she really loves food but it can be tiring seeing those kinds of jokes so often.
To give some background, when I started playing Ace Attorney I started with Justice for All because I was 10 and I thought that playing a sequel was a good idea. I kinda liked Maya back then but it was mostly because she was more similar to me personality-wise than the other characters. It wasn’t until I was 15 that I started to appreciate Maya for who she was as a character. While playing through the first game, I liked her during Turnabout Sisters and Turnabout Samurai but it wasn’t until Turnabout Goodbyes that I began to fall in love with Maya. Seeing her sacrifice herself to keep Edgeworth from getting found guilty during the first trial was really heartwarming and it’s also telling of the kind of person that Maya is, in a way. This is because in Turnabout Sisters, Edgeworth had prosecuted her and Phoenix at separate points during the case and tried to get them found guilty. As a result, seeing her getting held in contempt of court for him shows how selfless she is and also shows that she has a strong desire for seeing justice go through. Turnabout Goodbyes is also where we see Maya being insecure about her abilities as a spirit medium as she’s unable to channel Mia at all during the case. Although she says she is useless, during the case there are moments where she is incredibly useful, for example: during the aforementioned part where she gets held in contempt of court for Edgeworth’s sake; when she communicates with the parrot in order to get it to talk; and most importantly, when she jumped on Manfred Von Karma when he was about to taze her and Phoenix and managed to retrieve a very important piece of evidence in the process. The moment Maya got tased for Phoenix’s sake and beat herself up for being useless despite carrying an incredibly valuable piece of evidence tugged at my heartstrings and was the moment that I knew I loved Maya.
Right off the bat, I'd like to go over her most recognizable character trait: her cheerful nature. Maya Fey is an absolute ray of sunshine and adds to investigation segments by making quirky observations or goofy jokes. The most popular of the former would be when you examine the ladder(?) in Studio 1 during Turnabout Samurai and she argues briefly with Phoenix about the true nature of the object in question. However, Maya does have other goofy moments such as when you examine the snowmobile before the murder occurs in Bridge to the Turnabout or when you examine the big signboard in the Basement Warehouse during the Stolen Turnabout. She also has her moments during courtroom segments such as when she pretty much spends the first trial day of Turnabout Samurai roasting Oldbag. Maya adds a lot of personality to even the most tedious investigation segments and I don't blame anyone who goes around investigating everything just to see if Maya has anything to say.
One thing that I feel people overlook when it comes to Maya is how selfless she can be. For example, when she refuses Phoenix’s offer to take her case during Reunion, and Turnabout because she’s sure Phoenix will lose and later when you read her letter to Phoenix in Engarde’s Mansion and she tells Phoenix to forget about saving her and get Engarde found guilty in order to ensure justice was served even at the cost of her life. Another example would be in Bridge to the Turnabout where she sees her mother get killed in front of her. She’s obviously aware of who the killer is but is stubborn about covering for him because although Godot killed her mother, he also saved her life in the process. Maya has no obligation to defend Godot, to the point that he even admits that if he actually cared about saving her, he would have gone to Phoenix first; and yet, Maya still continues to believe that he genuinely wanted to save her. It’s a real gray area and there’s no clear answer to whether or not Godot did care for her but even if he didn’t, it’s still quite telling.
One trait that I find admirable about Maya is her strength. We see her go through so much throughout the franchise from the moment we meet her such as: finding her sister’s body; being accused of her sister’s murder; getting tased; being framed for murder by her aunt; getting kidnapped and being starved and in the process also being used as a bargaining chip against her best friend; getting nearly murdered by the ghost of her psycho killer cousin and also seeing her long lost mother die in front of her; and more. And yet, despite all of that, she is still able to remain cheerful and never once becomes bitter because of all the things that have happened to her. At the end of Bridge to the Turnabout, she could have broken down and abdicated the role of Master and it would have been understandable considering what she had just gone through. But the fact that she doesn’t and that she decides to stay strong for Pearl who also suffered greatly during the case not only shows how strong she is as a character but also shows how she matures during the trilogy. The Maya in the first game might have ran away, but by the end of the third game, she’s gone through a lot more than she did in the first game. It’s very subtle compared to Edgeworth’s arc or even Phoenix’s arc but she does go through her own development as a character.
Although she does have a habit of getting into trouble, having to help her never bothered me to be honest. Despite her penchant for getting into trouble it’s never her fault, as it either has something to do with her family or her relationship with Phoenix during the trilogy while the crossover and SOJ have her get accused of murder purely because she was in the wrong place at the wrong time. And even when she does get arrested for murder, it’s hard for me not to feel bad for her as she acts so downhearted (the part where she begs Phoenix not to take her case because she feels he'll lose if he does in Reunion, and Turnabout comes to mind). In a way, it can be considered clever on the writers’ part as Maya is one of the more beloved characters in the franchise so her getting in trouble can be seen as the result of Capcom wanting us to feel emotionally attached to a case. I’m not saying that it constantly happening is a good idea because she’s definitely gone through enough but I can’t get annoyed when you do have to help her. I just think that in the next game, in the event that she’s in it, Capcom should give Maya a break from being accused of murder and/or kidnapped.
Overall, Maya is a character that is very special to me and one of my favorite characters. Seeing her go through all the things that happen to her and yet still coming out with a smile on her face is something I admire greatly. She also happens to be Maya Fey-vorite AA character. There’s not much else i have left to say but I can give y’all a Maya:

Bridge to the Turnabout is the Pinnacle of the Ace Attorney Series
When you’re the final case in a well-regarded trilogy, living up to the previous entities hype can be a very tall order. With Ace Attorney season two having wrapped up its adaptation of the third game, Trials and Tribulations, we’ve been able to see how certain stories and characters reached an intense culmination spanning back to the first season or first two games. As an adaptation, the anime has faithfully recreated what makes this final case so well by not only giving it the time it deserves to feel important, but also giving you the same feelings as when you play the game. There are also little nods to the game such as utilizing key pieces of music and sound effects in critical sections that allow you to feel as if you are playing the game again. Bridge to the Turnabout is the perfect way to end the first trilogy and caps off Phoenix Wright’s (Naruhodo Ryuichi) final part as the sole protagonist of the series.
To get at what makes this case good, we have to go back to two cases before it in the anime—before the events of the entire series had taken place. Here, the anime actually divulges from the game by placing Turnabout Memories before the final case instead of as the beginning case. Normally, this case is your tutorial case, but the second season begins with the second game, Justice For All’s beginning case since the first season skipped it. It’s a bizarre change for those that have played the game, but once you look at it within the context of the anime, it actually works to put it closer to the end to keep the story fresh and in your mind.
That look into the past at Mia Fey (Ayasato Chihiro) getting her start as a defense attorney is crucial to what happens all throughout Bridge to the Turnabout as it ties all of the connections between her and Phoenix, Dahlia Hawthorne (Miyanagi Chinami), and Godot. These relationships become intrinsically tied together with the events that occur at the Hazakura Temple. With just those, this would be a good way to wrap up the final story of the first trilogy, but it doesn’t stop there. There are crucial stories that had yet to wrap up in the first two games or first season that had been left unsolved...until now.
The infamous DL-6 case from midway through the anime and the last case of the first game was where we were introduced to an unsolved mystery: what happened to Mia and Maya (Ayasato Mayoi)’s mother after DL-6? We learned why she suddenly disappeared, but never where she went and that continued through the rest of the first season and up until this case. However, she shows up under a pseudonym, which doesn’t allow Maya to have her reunion with her mother. Instead, it’s not revealed until the murder case is underway that she’s actually Misty Fey (Ayasato Maiko) which throws everything into chaos since there once again comes a possibility that Maya was the alleged culprit. The Fey family mysteries don’t stop there either.
One of the antagonists from the second game and the latter half of season one, Morgan Fey (Ayasato Kimiko) returns with another plot to make Pearl (Ayasato Harumi) become the Master of the Kurain Village. We get more connections as Pearl wasn’t her only daughter, as she was also the mother of Dahlia and her twin sister Iris (Ayame), who both become involved in the case since Iris is the accused and Dahlia returns to life thanks to the help of spirit channeling. If that were all the connections that go back to what happened earlier in the series, it’d make for a wild finale, but there’s still more since Miles Edgeworth (Mitsurugi Reiji) and Franziska von Karma (Karuma Mei) also show up to help out in a time of need.
The return of Miles and Franziska show how far they’ve come from their initial debuts. Miles is seen more as a friend after the battles Phoenix has against him and the wall between the two collapses following the DL-6 case. Franziska is still a little rough around the edges to everyone, but she’s gained respect for Phoenix after all of their battles. To have the two of them come back to help Phoenix when he gets hospitalized shows what they think of him to get this case extended so he can finish it himself.
It’s fun to see Miles put on the defense attorney’s badge and fulfill his dream from when he was a kid and help out Phoenix, especially since there isn’t a lot of time throughout the original trilogy that they are able to work together like this. Similarly, it’s interesting to see Miles and Franziska go head-to-head after growing up together and putting their skills against each other to see who the better lawyer is.
Outside of all the fun though, there’s still a court case that has plenty of twists and turns that has become the Ace Attorney standard for final trials. From the question of there being two identical versions of Iris, to Misty’s true identity, Dahlia returning to life, the implications that Maya killed her own mom, and what Godot had to do with everything, Bridge to the Turnabout takes you on a rollercoaster of emotions that don’t let up until the very end. Everything gets tied together, stories that have lasted through the series to this point are finally completed, and it’s a grandiose and epic way to finish. Season 2 of Ace Attorney does a great job of capturing all the feelings you get when playing this case and conveying them to viewers.
With the first trilogy of games from the Ace Attorney series now completely as an anime, it’s going to be curious to see if the anime continues and adapts the next trilogy of games: Apollo Justice, Dual Destinies, and Spirit of Justice. With how season two went, those games should get their time to shine as anime. For now, we can celebrate knowing one of the best cases, from one of the best video games, was able to be adapted wonderfully and prove why it is one of the absolute best parts of the entire series.
What's your favorite part of the Ace Attorney anime and which parts would you like to see adapted if it continues? Let us know in the comments below!

Volume 2, Chapter 2
Monopoly and the Long Game
Dee: Someone’s in the kitchen with Dinah. Really? Nothing?
Morgan: That song is older than all of us combined.
Dee: I know it.
Holly: I sort of got it, but not until right before I saw you.
Dee: Still!
Evan: Okay, ladies, we’re all getting very off-topic here.
-he presses the knife into Dee’s throat, and she stops talking-
Morgan: Evan, what are you doing?
Evan: Holding a friend of yours hostage for her god’s good behavior while Zaresi figures out how to use my ritual to kill them? I sort of thought that was obvious.
Morgan: What happened to no unnecessary killing?
Evan: Who told you that? Was it Laura? Did she find you already?
-he laughs-
Evan: Was it the happy reunion she was hoping for? I bet it wasn’t. Did you kill her, Morgan? Huh? Didja?
Morgan: No!
Evan: Hmph. I guess I have to go find her, then.
Holly: You know, I can do to you what I did to her.
Evan: Can you? Does that mean you’re a Magician now?
-his eyes narrow-
Evan: A Witch? Faker.
-he giggles a little-
Evan: Well? Going to do something? If you’re such a Magician, why don’t you attack me?
-Holly pauses-
Evan: Oh, right! It’s because I’ll slit Marian’s throat here if you try.
Holly: That’s a rather dated reference.
Evan: Well, turnabout’s fair play. Hey, Madame Librarian, you seem to know a lot, how do you say “Please don’t kill me” in…oh, let’s say, Serbian?
Dee: Um, actually, it’s—
Evan: Rhetorical. Be quiet.
-Dee shrugs-
Morgan: What do you want, Evan?
Evan: What does anyone want?
-he grins wickedly-
Evan: Nah, see, you’re thinking this is the kind of hostage situation where I want something out of it. I’m just waiting for Zaresi to figure things out, and then none of you will have any magic and I can go my merry way. So tell me, Morgan, did Laura give you the “I don’t want to hurt you” speech?
-Morgan winces-
Evan: I’ll take that as a yes. But see…I definitely want to hurt you. Badly. So once Tirali’s dead, I’m going to kill your sister, make you watch, and then kill you. Cool?
-Morgan summons a textbook-
Evan: Really? Is nobody noticing the knife here? Marian, all this callous disregard for your life must be terribly upsetting.
-Morgan grits her teeth, but dismisses the book-
Evan: Better!
Holly: Dee, do you have any rituals you could use without Evan noticing?
-Dee raises an eyebrow-
Holly: Right. You’d have used them.
Evan: Are you seriously planning your dramatic escape directly in front of me?
Morgan: Is there anything you can do about it? If you kill Dee, Tirali doesn’t have any reason not to fight back against Zaresi.
Evan: Like they could do anything.
-still, he doesn’t kill her-
-he taps his foot irritably-
Morgan: Getting bored?
Evan: Unimaginably.
-he turns off to the side-
Evan: Hey! Zaresi, are you almost—
Morgan: Distraction.
-and a book sends him flying across the room. Dee exhales with some relief. Evan whips himself to his feet, looking murderous-
Evan: You little—
Holly: Elucidate!
Dee: Eyewitness!
-the two rituals go off. Evan is shrouded in gray magic, and as it clears, he looks utterly befuddled-
Evan: fgsoep wkewk owi iwej ksls iaoqm nsn…
-Dee and Holly look at each other curiously-
Dee: What did yours do?
Holly: Temporarily forced his brain to track the movements of a couple electrons. I think he might be overloaded.
Dee: Ooh, bad combo with mine. I gave him compound vision.
-the two look at Evan, who still seems insensate-
Dee: So, um…you probably don’t have enough processing power to actually understand me right now, but the words you might be looking for are “Nemojte me ubiti.”
-a glowing eye forms in Dee’s palm. Evan stares sightlessly up at it-
-there’s then a scream from the other room-
-a loud hiss-
-and Dee’s eye disappears-
-there’s a stunned silence, broken only by Evan’s babbling-
Morgan: Oh no.
Holly: What? What just happened?
Morgan: Tirali’s dead! Our Contracts just got broken! We have to—
-and Zaresi appears behind them. She’s in a sized-down form, but the power billowing off her is enough to force Morgan and Holly to take a step back-
Zaresi: Too late.
-Morgan gulps-
Zaresi: Morgan. Holly. Good to see you again. Dinah, good to meet you.
-Dee glares at Zaresi-
Zaresi: Would you be interested in joining my ranks? We could use a Magician of your caliber.
Dee: Well, if they call off my interview in Hell on account of snow, I’ll consider it.
-she takes a pen from her pocket-
Dee: You may have killed my Contractor, but that doesn’t stop my rituals from working! Electric Company!
-Knowledge magic starts to build up around the pen-
Zaresi: No.
-Zaresi flicks out a hand, and the pen explodes with Death magic. Dee yelps and drops it-
Zaresi: None of that.
-Holly reaches into her pocket, and Zaresi’s attention flicks to her. A scythe suddenly forms at her throat-
Morgan: Leave her alone!
Zaresi: And why should I do that? Our Contract is voided. I owe you nothing.
-she tilts her head-
Zaresi: Unless, of course, you are interested in returning to my service, once again in exchange for your sister’s life?
Morgan: I—
Holly: Don’t you dare, Morgan.
Zaresi: Very well.
-she waves a hand, and a pulse of Death magic ripples over the three. Knowledge magic drains away from Holly and Dee’s various rituals and is burnt to nothing, and Evan suddenly recovers his senses-
Zaresi: I will leave you in Evan’s capable hands, then. If you will excuse me, I have a town to finish subjugating.
-she leaves the room, growing in size as she does, and the three turn around to see Evan picking himself up-
Evan: Hello again! Where were we?
-he draws his knife-
Evan: Right. I was killing the three of you.
Dee: That wasn’t where we were.
Evan: Fair point. It’s where we are, though. So, anyone volunteering to go first?
-he points his knife between the three, who back off-
Evan: Unbelievable. I have to do everything myself.
-he starts moving the knife between them-
Evan: Eeny, meanie, miney, Necrosyr—
-something flashes out of a ceiling vent and slams into Evan, sending him sprawling, before straightening up, revealing itself to be a humanoid figure, sans torso or head-
Dee: Wait a second. You’re—
-Evan leaps to his feet, grabbing his knife again-
Evan: Hey! No fifth wheels! This is strictly a four-person murder!
Figure: Sounds boring.
-it taps a finger against Evan’s chest, and a burst of electric blue magic sends him flying-
Figure: Hey, you two. Time to go.
Dee: Two?
-the figure tilts its body at Dee-
Figure: …Huh. I wasn’t told about you. Oh well, come along!
-it grabs the three, and there’s a rush of electric blue. The three are gone, leaving Evan alone-
Evan: …Damn it.
-he slams his knife into a table-
-cut to blackness. The figure reappears, towing the three-
Morgan: Where are we?
Holly: Who are you?
Dee: What’s going on?
Figure: Well, I can’t really answer the second one, not really knowing myself. I’m only a Spirit, after all.
-a light appears in the distance-
Figure: As for the first and third, however, welcome to my goddess’s domain!
-a series of lights flicker on, and reveal…-
Holly: Your goddess’s domain is a parking lot?
Morgan: Wait a minute.
Dee: Oh, yeah, we have a Parking Contractor here. Always thought she was kind of weird. Didn’t know she had any Spirits, but I suppose that explains the mysterious new Spirit wandering around.
Morgan: …You have a goddess of Parking?
Dee: Contractor. Why?
Morgan: …We had one too.
-a blue light approaches from offscreen-
???: The sisters, I presume?
-pan-
Novju: We have a lot to discuss.
-Morgan and Holly stare. Dee waves-
Novju: Oh, um. Dinah, isn’t it? What brings you here?
Dee: Your Spirit. And call me Dee; everyone does.
Novju: Really?
-she turns to the Spirit-
Spirit: She was with Morgan and Holly. It didn’t seem right to just let Evan kill her too.
Novju: Evan was there?
Dee: Zaresi too. Tirali’s dead. Xenn’s probably dead. When did you get a Spirit?
Novju: Quite recently, actually. I—
Morgan: Hold it!
-everyone turns to Morgan-
Novju: Yes?
Morgan: You’re dead.
Dee: Well, that’s not very poli—
Morgan: No, I mean, you’re dead. I saw you die, Novju.
Spirit: Wait, what?
Holly: No, it’s true. I mean, she told me it was true.
Dee: Wouldn’t that make you only a secondary source?
Holly: Yeah, but you’re a ternary source.
-Dee raises an eyebrow and points at Novju-
Holly: ...That’s irrelevant.
Novju: Let’s take a vote. Who here thinks I’m dead?
-Morgan and Holly raise their hands. The Spirit, Dee, and Novju herself don’t-
Novju: Looks like you’re outvoted.
Morgan: But…how?
Novju: Excellent segue. Have a seat.
-she waves a hand, and four mounds form out of the ground. Everyone sits down in front of her. Novju herself pulls herself into criss-cross applesauce, floating a few feet above the ground-
Novju: First off, I’m a tulpa.
-Morgan leaps to her feet. There’s a whisper of electric blue, and she’s sitting down again-
Novju: None of that! Time is limited, and we’ve wasted enough of it trying to determine whether or not I’m dead.
-she huffs-
Novju: First of all, when I say that I’m a tulpa, I mean that what you are seeing right now, and what you saw in your hometown, Morgan and Holly, was also a tulpa. A very, very complex tulpa, made using a ritual I’ve been perfecting over…oh, 5000 years or so?
Morgan: Wait, what? That would make you—
Novju: About 5000, yes. Now, with respect to Tirali—
-she inclines her head slightly in Dee’s direction-
Novju: I’ll attempt to forestall the obvious questions here. I don’t always look the same, and I don’t always lay a claim to the same domain. I’ve gone by Organization, Real Estate, Location, and more, and what it adds up to is me being the Goddess of Space in almost every city of every country in the world.
Dee: …Contractor.
Novju: Aren’t you brave?
Morgan: That has to be against the Convocation.
Novju: As a matter of fact, it’s not against the Convocation, which one of my several identities was involved in creating. Since I make no effort to attain any power beyond what I’ve skimmed away over my many lifetimes, and since my Domains are so uninspiring, nobody has ever bothered challenging me for my post. Somewhat ironically, I do my best to avoid taking up space in the world. I’ve never recruited Magicians, and this is the first Spirit I’ve ever felt the need to have in my service. In fairness, of course, I would call this an extreme situation.
-she gestures to the Spirit-
Novju: This…Poltergeist? Does that seem like a good name?
Morgan: I like it.
Poltergeist: I don’t.
Dee: Eh.
Holly: Is this the time?
Novju: This Poltergeist is the remains of one of the Magicians of your town.
-there’s a beat-
-Morgan flashes back through things that have happened, most notably Quinn’s death-
Morgan: …I know who you are.
Poltergeist: …Um.
Morgan: Qu—
Novju: No!
Morgan: What? But I--
Novju: It’s a new Spirit, and one formed under particularly unpleasant circumstances. Its memory is going to be spotty at best. It’s not going to know about itself, and if you try and remind it, it’ll only pollute what’s really there with what you think should be.
Morgan: She’s my friend! I—
Novju: Was that the only Magician who died there?
Morgan: …
Novju: What if this is Richard? Or Janice, or one of Nalis’s other people? If you fill its brain up with how it’s Quinn, it won’t be pretty. Trust me.
Morgan: I—
Novju: Drop it.
-Morgan slumps. The Poltergeist awkwardly pats her-
Morgan: I just thought…
-Novju’s expression becomes more sympathetic-
Novju: You thought you would get to see someone you knew again. I understand. But you can’t rush the formation of a Spirit, or it might never recover its original memories. Best to leave it alone for now.
-everyone looks between each other-
Morgan: ….Okay.
Novju: Excellent. Now, I’m sure you’re wondering why I’ve rescued you.
Morgan: I kind of thought it was out of the goodness of your heart.
Novju: Maybe a little, but you also happen to be useful to me. See, the me from your hometown wasn’t aware enough of what happened to her to be of use, and of course my Poltergeist has no memories. Consequently, I’m going to need you to tell me exactly what happened.
Morgan: …Oh.
Novju: Please.
Morgan: Well, um…I worked for Zaresi, but she was secretly setting up some sort of ritual. So she absorbed the life of the entire town, and now she’s trying to conquer the world one city at a time.
Novju: …I see.
Holly: For what it’s worth, I had a hard time believing it too.
Novju: That’s not the issue. This simply requires a proportionate response.
Morgan: Meaning?
Novju: Meaning it’s time for a family reunion.
-Novju flicks a hand, and a watch forms out of nothing. She checks it-
Novju: Hmm. So, my proper form, who has been touring England, has already begun the recall of her many selves. I am currently 857th on the list, giving us approximately…32 minutes.
Holly: What?
-Holly appears to be doing math in her head-
Novju: I’ll teleport the four of you out of town before I go, don’t worry.
Morgan: Hang on.
Novju: Huh?
Morgan: What happens then?
Novju: Um… well, you go somewhere safe, I pull myself together, give Zaresi a personal lesson in her Domain, and…well. I’ll probably have a lot of explaining to do after that, but I’ll deal with that when the time comes.
-she shrugs-
Novju: Is that a problem?
Morgan: I want to help you!
-Holly and Dee stare. The Poltergeist tilts its body in a way that would suggest the same if it had a face-
-Novju bursts out laughing-
Novju: Help me? Really? I think you’re underestimating the amount of power we’re talking about here.
Morgan: But—
Novju: I’ve been skimming off the entire planet for five millennia, and Zaresi has the entire magic supply of a small town. Do you know how much magic a single human life contains?
Dee: Well, attempts to scientifically measure magical output have been limited in scope for obvious reasons, but there are a few obscure SI units, and the average output of a single human life has generally been considered—
Novju: The answer is a lot.
Dee: Yeah, that.
Novju: Any human Magician would be hopelessly out of their league. You’d burn out in moments trying to keep up.
Holly: Well, that sounds like that settles it.
Morgan: There has to be something we can do!
-Novju stops laughing-
Novju: There isn’t. This is beyond you. Just go. And take the Poltergeist with you, I think it’s taken a shine to you.
-Morgan turns to see the Poltergeist leaning over towards her-
Morgan: …You want me to travel with someone who is almost certainly my dead best friend, but I can’t acknowledge that in any way?
Dee: Aw, don’t be like that. It seems sweet.
-the Poltergeist hops over-
Morgan: What’s with the sudden attachment?
Holly: Do you suppose Spirits imprint?
Dee: Not that I’ve heard.
Poltergeist: I dunno. You seem stressed. I’m guessing you could use a friendly face. So to speak.
Morgan: …Seriously?
Poltergeist: And standoffish, too. But I’m sure you’ll get better about that.
Morgan: So, what? You’re going to haunt me into a better person?
Poltergeist: It’s like peer pressure, but it’s justifiable!
-the Poltergeist slumps over, and its manner becomes more sincere-
Poltergeist: Seriously, though, you think you know who I was? Maybe if I stay around you, I’ll get something back.
Morgan: …Good luck.
Holly: I’m sure you’ll be your old self in no time.
Morgan: So…what? I go off, I forget this happened, and I start a sitcom with my sister, a librarian, and a ghost?
Dee: (aside) I’d watch it.
Poltergeist: (aside) Spirit. Ghosts aren’t real.
Novju: That’s the general idea.
Holly: Is that so bad? You heard… Novju, right? This isn’t a fight we can be a part of anymore. We need to step aside, and let people who know what they’re doing handle this.
Morgan: I know what I’m doing.
Dee: Do you really?
Holly: You’re talking about picking a fight with a god. That’s not a course of action that generally works.
Dee: Contractor.
Holly: Not actually helping my case, Dee.
-she turns back to Morgan-
Holly: I get it. You feel betrayed. you feel like maybe you could have stopped this from happening, you think it’s your responsibility to solve things. But it’s not. At some point, we have to take a back seat.
Dee: That point is now, by the way.
Holly: Dee.
Dee: Just saying.
-the two turn expectantly to Morgan-
Morgan: …Yeah. You’re right.
Holly: Oh, I know.
Novju: Mm-hmm. Very nice. Now, if you’ll all be on your way, I can--
-there’s an explosion-
Novju: Oh dear.
-and the sound of arguing-
Laura: We’re trying to keep a low profile here!
Evan: Oh, please. They’ll just blame it on gas leaks or something.
-and the forces of Death enter the garage-
Novju: …Evening, Zaresi.
Zaresi: Novju. How surprising to see you. You are looking well.
Novju: You’re looking overblown as ever. Still think the “I can’t wash my bedsheets” look is in fashion?
-Evan takes a step forwards, brandishing his knife-
Evan: Speak with respect. I killed you once, I’ll do it again.
Novju: Certainly doesn’t look like you did a good job of it.
-she yawns-
-Evan snarls. Zaresi holds up a hand-
Morgan: You really don’t get any respect, do you?
Iggy: Now you know how I—
Evan, Laura, Morgan, and Holly: Quiet, Iggy.
Dee: Is your name Iggy?
Iggy: Um, actually, it’s—
Dee: Quiet, Iggy.
Iggy: Oh.
-Evan glares at Morgan, but doesn’t do anything-
Novju: What do you want?
Zaresi: To tie up loose ends.
Novju: Oh, Zaresi. As always, you think too small.
-she giggles just a little-
Novju: First, you think a single town is enough for you to challenge the world. The fact that you’re still grubbing around in cities one by one is really only the cherry on top of the absolute mediocrity that got you to this point.
Zaresi: How dare you—
Novju: Second, even with the great power you claim to have, you’re still working on the scale of a handful of Spirits and Magicians. I can think of a lot of ways I could cut your reign short right now, but unlike you I’ve got no interest in killing a whole city just to achieve something.
Zaresi: My goals are—
Novju: Oh, and finally…you really think I’m the only loose end here?
Zaresi: …What?
Novju: It didn’t occur to you to wonder why you couldn’t kill me? I’m a tulpa, Zaresi. The Novju you killed up north, that was a tulpa too. There are thousands of me, all around the world, we’re all linked, and now every single one of us knows what you did.
-she grins-
Novju: You weren’t around when they invented the printing press, but before the information age…let’s just say the rush of a good story never really gets old.
Zaresi: What have you done?
Novju: You have no allies. Anywhere. Not now, not ever. You broke the tenets of the Convocation, and every Spirit you see is going to be out for your blood.
-she gives Zaresi a thumbs-up-
Novju: One town is worth a lot of magic. But so’s a whole world. You wanted conquest, Zaresi? You better get conquering. And of course…I’ll be waiting for you when you do.
Zaresi: …Very well.
-she conjures up a scythe-
Zaresi: I will begin with your form here.
Novju: Might be tough.
-Novju flicks out a hand, and Zaresi vanishes-
Evan: What did you do to her?!
Novju: Sent her elsewhere.
-Evan gets on guard, but Laura steps forwards-
Laura: She can’t do it again, or she’d have done it. We don’t have to fight you, Novju.
Novju: How many times have you said that today, Laura? What kind of choice do you think you’re offering people?
-Laura purses her lips, but magic begins spiraling up from her palms. Evan, meanwhile, steps forwards-
Evan: You made a big mistake sending Lady Zaresi away.
-Novju holds up her hand again, but Evan ignores her, stalking up to Morgan and pointing his knife at her. She takes a step back-
Novju: Morgan, how many times do I have to tell you to run?
Evan: It’s too late for that. Sagittarius serpentarius!
-the knife glows with black light. Morgan steps out of slicing range, but dozens of spears of Death magic cascade around her, penning her, Holly, Dee, and the Poltergeist in-
Dee: Tell me, do you use rituals for things like that because you’re a weak spellcaster?
-Evan snaps his fingers in Dee’s direction, and more spikes appear. He turns back to Morgan, who glares at him-
Evan: You. Traitor. And you, other Morgan. Marian too. And what the hell, Spirit, you cost me my chance to kill the three of them back in the library, so you’re on my list too. I’m going to cut the four of you into tiny pieces.
-the spears push Morgan closer to him, and he places the knife at her throat-
Evan: I just want you to know…you got into this for your sister? Because I assure you, this ritual hurts a lot more than getting attacked by Dreamedge. Hey, Laura, want to watch?
Laura: No.
Evan: Oh well.
-he grins-
Evan: I don’t need witnesses to enjoy myself.
-throughout this, Novju has been watching impassively, her outline turning more and more hazy-
Novju: Hmm. Good luck with that. Morgan, you said you wanted to help?
Morgan: I do.
Novju: Then help.
-and power flows between the two-
-and Evan is immediately blasted backwards by a stream of electric blue light-
Evan: Nngh!
Dee: Hey, any chance I could get in on that? I’ve done a few studies on Space magic.
Novju: If you insist.
-Dee glows as well, and a small wormhole opens, allowing her, Holly, and the Poltergeist to exit the spear cage-
Novju: Holly? I suppose you want a Contract too?
Holly: I’ve been letting my sister fight my battles for me for too long now, I think.
Novju: An admirable sentiment.
-Holly glows as well-
Novju: Well then! That’s about it for this form, so Evan, tell your dime-store goddess that I’ll see her in… hm, London. Morgan, Dee, Holly, Poltergeist; fight well, and my orders stand. Keep yourselves safe.
-and she twists into a single point in space and vanishes-
Morgan: So, Team Zaresi. Still want that fight?
-the assembled Reapers and Laura eye the four, all of whom are pulsing with Space magic, and back off-
Evan: Argh…cowards!
-and the Reapers flee. Laura stays, but hangs far behind Evan, looking downcast-
Laura: …Evan, come on. These four aren’t important.
-she tries to make eye contact with Morgan, who ignores her-
Laura: We need to find Zaresi, regroup, and move on.
-Evan tilts his head, and then sighs, following Laura. Just before leaving, however, he turns around-
Evan: I want you to understand something. This isn’t over. Even if you never get in our way again…once Zaresi rules the world, I’ll come find you, and I’ll kill you.
-he smiles-
Evan: Just thought you should know.
-and he follows Laura out-
Dee: …Wow. And you said you were friends with him?
Morgan: No.
Holly: Is it just me, or is he getting worse?
Morgan: I can’t imagine killing people and living their entire lives is really making him more stable.
Dee: Seems unlikely.
Poltergeist: What a dick.
Morgan: A common sentiment, yes.
Holly: So, what now? Where do we go?
Morgan: That’s easy. Novju said she’s in London, so I’ll go to London.
Holly: Well, she also said specifically not to try and help because we’d all die. Don’t you think we should do that?
Morgan: No. I got into this to keep people safe. I can’t stand by until I know I’ve done what I can to help.
Holly: …
Morgan: What?
Holly: Did you want this to happen?
Morgan: What?!
Holly: Novju giving us the Contracts? I know you, Morgan. You were looking for an excuse to pick a fight with Zaresi from the start, right?
Morgan: So what if I was?
Holly: I can’t let you do that. There’s nothing we can do at this point.
Morgan: We can try.
Holly: Dee. You seem sensible.
Dee: Thank you for noticing.
Holly: You agree with Novju, right?
Dee: Now that you mention it, no, I don’t.
Holly: What?
Dee: Zaresi killed Tirali. My Contractor, and more to the point my friend. I’d be willing to bet she killed every Contractor and Spirit here. Even if our efforts are token, I quite frankly want revenge. I can understand if you don’t feel similarly, but I have to support Morgan’s plan.
Holly: I—but—
Morgan: Zaresi killed our parents, killed Allen and Jacob, killed Quinn!
-she eyes the Poltergeist, who doesn’t react-
Morgan: We can’t just leave this to other people to fix.
Holly: …Poltergeist?
Poltergeist: I’m going with Morgan.
Holly: …Well. I guess I’m outvoted then. Let’s find an airport.
Morgan: Whoa, wait. You’re not coming.
Holly: What?
Morgan: You’re going to get as far away from here as possible. I’ll give you a call when this is over.
Holly: What? No!
Morgan: I got into this to keep you safe, Holly. I can’t stand to the side, but I’m not going to let you get any more involved in this than you already are.
Holly: You can’t stop me. I’m not going to be shut out again.
Morgan: …Sorry about this.
-a wormhole opens to the motel room. Morgan nudges Holly through it, and closes it-
Morgan: I’ll see you when this is over.
-she looks back to Dee and the Poltergeist-
Poltergeist: …You don’t think that was a little cold?
Morgan: I almost lost her once. It’s not going to happen again.
Dee: Let’s hope you’re right.
Morgan: Now come on. Let’s get to the airport.
-cut to the airport, with the three boarding a plane-
Morgan: You’d think things would go a little faster, the fate of the world being at stake and all.
Dee: Eh.
Poltergeist: You should try being incorporeal.
-it occupies a seat next to the two, not bothering with the seatbelt-
-this makes it very awkward when a portal appears in the same seat, and Holly climbs into the plane, intersecting the Poltergeist-
Poltergeist: ...Um.
Morgan: Holly?!
Holly: Did you really think you could just ditch me?
Dee: I do think that was the plan.
Holly: Come on.
-she parks herself next to Morgan-
Holly: You sent me back to the motel room, and you left some of your books there. So I did a little more research, and I learned how to trace your portal back.
Dee: Oh, impressive. Really, Morgan? You didn’t think to hide them?
Morgan: I…
Holly: I’m your sister, Morgan. That means I’m with you.
-she grabs Morgan’s hand-
Holly: Maybe you got into this to keep me safe, but you can’t leave me out of it anymore.
-she stares at Morgan-
Holly: We’re in this together.
-there’s a long pause. The Poltergeist turns between the two-
Morgan: …I guess there’s no choice left. We’re going to London.

Running Down a Dream: The Definitive Guide
So. Back in January of this year, when I was about eh, twenty hours into FFXV, I started a fanfic on Ao3. I thought it would just be a nice place to sock away little drabbles or short fics, here and there, that might be inspired by my playthough. I had no intentions of doing more than maybe ten of them, and I thought they'd all be too small to be stand-alone fics. So I made them chapters, though they weren't really meant to tell any kind of overarching story. I called it Running Down a Dream, because too many things were already called Life is a Highway, and I liked the Tom Petty song better. I didn't expect it to amount to much, really.
...The current collective word count for my FFXV works on Ao3 is 106,074 words. (My FFXV game save is about two hundred and thirty hours.) Slightly more output than I planned. Probably more than anyone expected when reading the first chapter of this five months ago! (The fact that this comes after two years of painful block following the publishing of my first novel is just the cherry on the sundae.)
So, I realize that some people might not have read RDD, because the main fic and the B-sides are marked as unfinished. That's because they're a collection of stand-alones and the whole thing probably won't be finished ever-- I want to leave it open so I can go in and write something whenever. Someday, I may go in and mark them as finished. Probably about thirty minutes before the Earth crashes into the Sun. But each 'chapter' of RDD and the B-sides is complete as is, and while there is some continuity from chapter to chapter--mostly in the form of in-jokes and relationship status--you can still go in and read any one of them, at random. But who wants to plunge into a thirty-chapter mess that's part of a series which also has multiple-chapter fics and some of them are marked finished and some aren't and there's a crossover?? and what? Especially since this Tenshi no Korin person never puts in summaries that actually tell you anything and it's always a song quote or obscure movie quote I mean, the hell?
Don't worry. I've got you covered. Because I'm here with the......
DEFINITIVE GUIDE TO TENSHI NO KORIN'S RUNNING DOWN A DREAM FFXV ARC SO FAR (as of 5/12/17). With links. Buckle in. Here we go.
Running Down a Dream: Ao3 Series Page
Running Down a Dream: Main Fic: The start of all this mess, as described above. Note: While this series is generally fun/funny, I take maudlin turns without warning. Here to help you avoid or seek out what you will is the following code:
(~) this fic is lighthearted (~~) this fic is somewhat serious (~~~) this fic is thoughtful and/or melancholy (!?) this fic is utter crackpanties; your neighbors may call the police.
1.Sunburn: Prompto wants to put the top down, but Ignis pays the price. (~) 2.Garnish: Ignis Scientia: Wild Edibles Expert (~) 3.Lure: Prompto asks Noct about fishing. It's a mistake. (~) 4.Arson: Gladio gets on like a house on fire. (~) (very short) 5.Rain: Insomnia falls. Noct grieves. Prompto offers what comfort he can. (~~~) 6.Ebony: Ignis' poison of choice. (~) 7.Knickers: There's a strange pair of underpants in the hotel bathroom. (~) 8.Plume: Prompto takes a bad hit in battle. (~~) 9.Shield: Gladio meditates on his role, and on bacon. Prompto lands a big catch. (~~/~) 10.Vacancy: Saving the world is messy work. Deciding who gets the shower first is messier. (~) 11.Neon: Prompto and Noct on the hotel roof. First kisses and confessions. (~~) Noct/Prompto 12.Gourmand: Ignis thoroughly enjoys his hobbies, to the dismay and delight of his companions. (~) 13.Ink: Prompto asks about Gladio's tattoo. (~~~) 14.Laundry: Ignis steals his quiet moments where he can. Gladio steals more than that. Noct wants to know where the hell his pants are. (~~/~) Gladio/Ignis 15.Delirium: Noct falls into some dubious mushrooms and finds himself in some even more dubious DLC. Utter crack with no apologies. This is the most popular chapter of this entire series by a country mile. (?!) 16.Manners: Ignis attempts to make his party behave while they escort Iris. It's a lost cause. (Sorry, Iris.) (~) 17.Balladeer: Tomb of the Rogue, without Gladio. Noct sings. Lucian history in verse. (~~~) 18.Trim: Noct gets a haircut and nobody enjoys it. Except maybe Gladio and Prompto. (~) 19.Quicksilver: Prompto saves the day. (~~) 20.Carnivore: Concerning the habits of Chocobos. (~) 21.Poet: Noct and Prompto are up too late and everything is funny. Especially Gladio's hobbies. (~) 22.Phobia: Ignis and his worst fear. No, not brown shoes with a blue suit. Leeches. (~~) 23.Valentine: The most original fic premise ever: It's raining. They don't have spare clothes. The hotel only has one room. It's the honeymoon suite. (!?) 24.Spelunker: Prompto has a panic attack in the caves under Daurel Springs. Gladio offers his jacket and his shoulder. (~~) 25.Specter: Putting relics of the old war to rest. Wondering who will bury their dead. (~~~^100) 26.Payday: Gladio explains what he was doing while he was gone. Noct spies an opportunity. TW: tequila, body glitter, ornamental spoons. (?!) 27.Rations: Gladio's protein bars are terrible. Ignis can do better. (~) 28.Storage: Noct attempts to carry everything in his Armiger. That's how you get ants. (!?) 29.Crimson: The story behind the red soles. (~~~) 30.Bubbly: Gladio takes a hit for Noct, Noct finds a suitable reward. (~) 31.Talent: Something Ignis isn't good at. (~)
Running Down a Dream: The B-Sides: For some reason I made RDD a T+ rating, and then I wanted to write things that were out of the loose timeline that was developing in RDD, and also I just wanted to write M-rated smut. This was meant to be a place for both! Instead it's just the latter. Stories run parallel to the main RDD fic, but! You don't have to read the RDD fics to read these. NSFW (i.e.: #2) to ///desperately/// NSFW (i.e.: #5) 1.Poolside: Noct/Prompto. The Leville's rooftop pool. First time. (~) 2.Adult: Pit stop at a roadside porn store. Gladio shops the sale. Prompto works up his nerve. Ignis offers advice. Noct wishes he were dead. (!?) 3.Turnabout: Prompto/Noct. The King of Lucis takes it like a man. (~) 4.Stealth: Gladio/Ignis. Gladio and Ignis try to get a little on the down-low. Ignis thinks about the first time. Then he thinks about his king. And that's a problem. A good one. 5.Lucky: OT4. The infamous lucky man conversation. Prompto makes a boast, and then makes good on it. Prompto/Everybody
Running Down a Dream: Tyrants & Kings: Okay, so I really need to write about the second half of the game, I thought. But I didn't want to bog down RDD with all that, plus, I want to still be able to write lighthearted road fics (and let people keep reading them), and avoid major game spoilers. Tyrants & Kings is where I deal with the events from Altissia onward to the end of the game (and after). It's also actually complete, unlike most of the rest of this. All fics (~~~) at least. 1.Departures: Leaving Altissia, on the train to Tenebrae. Prompto does what he can. Ignis is grateful. 2.Armistice: Ignis has had quite enough of everyone's bad behavior. Gladio and Noct work it out the only way they know how. 3.Princess: Prompto gets rescued; Noct apologizes. 4.Crystal: Noct dreams about his memories, including how Prompto got his beloved camera. 5.Retreat: Gladio, Ignis, and Prompto head back to Lucis, and try to come to terms with what to do now. (Prompto/Ignis/Gladio) * 6.Regroup: Prompto and Ignis talk about the future, their lives, and about Noct. Ignis gets a phone call. 7.Reunion: The boys are back in town. Noct asks Prompto for a favor. 8.Requiem: The Astrals and the Aftermath. Carbuncle lays down the law. The end of the road. 9.Sunrise: The end of this story, and the beginning of all the others.
* Running Down a Dream: Coming for to Carry Me Home: A stand-alone fic that chronologically slots between chapters 5&6 of Tyrants & Kings. Ignis worries about Prompto, who's having a hard time coping with the turn their lives have taken. And, as it turns out, the things that happened to him in Gralea. Hurt/Comfort. (Please note fic warnings.)
Running Down a Dream: One Other Year: Everything that takes place after the events of Tyrants & Kings. (Wait, I hear you say-- If T&K is the END of the game, how can you have a fic about what happens after? Well. You'll just have to read it and find out.) Unlike RDD & B-sides, his is actually one fic published chapter by chapter, NOT a collection of stand-alone fics, and also not finished, though I try to update it regularly. 1.Picnic: Luna admits something to Prompto. Gladio makes a discovery. 2.Lineage: Ignis tells a story about the Rogue Queen, and about the Kingsglaive, and Galahd, and Royal Magic. 3.Dreams: Noct and Gladio talk about Iris, and about Lucis. Luna makes do. Ignis makes breakfast. 4.Vantage: Noct tries to come to terms with this Prompto Argentum. (Noct/Prompto) 5.Recap: An unknown enemy, an unexpected reunion. Prompto barely avoids causing a cross-cultural incident.
Persistence of Memory: The FFXV/FFVIII Crossover, that doesn't take place in the same timeline as RDD (or DOES it?? :D). Though I will always hold up FFIV as my favorite (and the first one I played myself), FFVIII was a huge catalyst for a ton of fic that I wrote along with my wife, in a continuity that eventually came to be known as the Infamous FF8 ARC. (For approximately two months in the year 2000 I think I was a BNF, but back then it was both an easier rank to get to and also one that you really would never ever want.) Even though we probably wound up writing more for FFVII--and these days are probably more remembered for our Turkfic than for our FF8 stuff, I will always adore those idiots. Playing FF15 felt like playing FF8 in a lot of ways, and putting the two together just made more sense the more I thought about it. So I did. Like One Other Year, this fic is continuous in that it's telling a single story and the chapters are not stand-alone, and also it takes longer for me to write the chapters for it. So while it's unfinished now, it will actually be completed in the future (unlike the RDD fics), but if you don't want to get involved in something till it's done then this is the one that you'd probably want to wait on.
SO THAT'S IT SO FAR. Hopefully if you haven't read any of it yet, you'll find something to try! And if you have, maybe this'll make it easier for you to find old favorites. I love getting Ao3 comments and I promise I try to reply to all of them, though sometimes it does take me a while. Now I'm off to write another installment of RDD, because there's never enough counter space in the hotel bathrooms.
