So we all know Phoenix can't be killed, but do you think he knows that? Do you think Phoenix walks into every dangerous experience thinking "this will probably kill me but it's worth it" and is surprised when he's just like. Almost completely fine. If he does know, I don't think he's always known he always has. Being unkillable isn't just a thing people are so it probably wouldn't have occurred to him at first, and in 3-1 I get the vibe college Phoenix fully thinks he could die and acts recklessly regardless. But like. By 4-2 he's so casual about the getting hit by a car thing that I wonder if he did eventually realise. And then I wonder which event would be the catalyst for that realisation. Was it the bridge? The fire extinguisher? The taser? Did he realise it soon after 3-1, after he was largely unharmed by the glass & poison eating? When did he put it together.

I love Klavier Gavin so much. Easily one of my favorite Ace Attorney characters. One day I hope I can get my thoughts together to write a long essay. But this whole bit where Apollo & Trucy go to visit his office is probably my favorite moment in AA4 and I love this in particular. There's something compelling to me about characters that recognize that the world isn't perfect and can be downright dark, and they make a conscious effort to not be like that. He's not nice "just 'cause," he's making an active choice to do the right thing as much as possible. His character arc isn't like the OT prosecutors where they had to learn to be better people. The drama comes from: "Can he stick to that goal even when the truth hurts? Or is he going to turn a blind eye to it when the truth is hard to accept? Can he stay a good person?" It's great stuff.
