oil painting for finals!!!!! its beautiful, this subject is under a teacher with a very trained eye so we all get low grades despite our best efforts anyway. and thats fine. that restrain somehow cancelled itself out and i feel freer in his class than any teacher’s now (maybe i just like painting so this exam is just free therapy)

What I was working on before Locksbrook closed.

Still Life of Stockpiled items.

I started this painting in response to the biggest news story at the time - Stockpiling. Brits were panicking, emptying shelves and bog roll became a prized good worth fighting over.

Within a week of starting the piece, an epidemic became a pandemic, uni announced it’s closure, studios were emptied and I was moving home for the foreseeable future.

I have decided not to ‘complete’ this piece... for now. My humorous intentions and response to headlines at the time seems ill-fitting to how quickly things have changed. With the current climate, it’s not a fun piece for me to be working on anymore - in order to continue my practice throughout these testing times I am focusing on work that excites me :)

Today I did fabric #textile stuff. Made my own fabric from a bag of wool and cloth remnants by layering them over the interfacing you use to make iron on patches. Then practiced my #embroidery and #3dembroidery and once I've finished my #sampler I'm going to embroider onto the fabric I sort of made. Does it count as making a #fabric? I don't know. I'm excited though. I want to try this with paper and card between plastic and see if I can get it soft enough to be sewn in to.
