The Invisible Curriculum: Lessons Learned After Graduation
The Great Unknown
The abrupt transition from the structured world of academia to the vast, uncertain expanse of post-college life is a shock to the system. Armed with a degree but lacking real-world experience, I found myself adrift in a sea of uncertainty.
At twenty-two, still under the comforting roof of my parents' home, I grapple with a silent pressure. While grateful for their support, the ambitious dreams I once harbored now feel like distant echoes.
It’s a truth conveniently omitted from the college curriculum: the transition to post-graduate life is a formidable challenge. The carefully constructed plans of our college years, based on theoretical knowledge and hypothetical scenarios, evaporate upon graduation. The real world, it turns out, is far less predictable.
The pressure to "figure it out" is immense. Peers are securing jobs, buying homes, and building lives that seem to move at an accelerated pace. Social media, a constant reminder of others' successes, can be a double-edged sword. It's a battle between internalizing these achievements as inspiration or allowing them to fuel feelings of inadequacy.
The fear of failure looms large. With every job application rejection, self-doubt creeps in. The question of whether I've chosen the right path echoes in my mind. It's a time of questioning one's identity, purpose, and place in the world.
 Lost and Found
Psychology, a subject chosen more for its pragmatic appeal than passion, became the framework for my undergraduate years. My heart, however, yearned for storytelling, a world of imagination and emotion where I could lose myself. The academic rigors of psychology, while intellectually stimulating, stifled my creative spirit. Unfinished stories lay scattered in notebooks, haunting reminders of a part of myself I had temporarily abandoned.
Graduation felt like a sudden drop into an abyss. The structured world of academia, with its clear goals and defined paths, was replaced by a vast, open expanse filled with endless possibilities—and equally endless uncertainties. The ticking clock of my peers securing jobs induced a mix of envy and desperation. Casting aside caution, I applied for roles far below my qualifications, driven by a desperate need for experience.
The toll of this job-hunting frenzy was immense. Rejection after rejection chipped away at my self-esteem. The pressure to find something, anything, to fill the void of unemployment was overwhelming. Sleepless nights, accompanied by a constant low-grade anxiety, became the norm.
It was during this period of profound disillusionment that I began to question my choices. Had I made a grave mistake by pursuing psychology? Was I destined for a life of unfulfilled potential? These questions echoed in my mind, creating a sense of internal turmoil.
Finding My Footing
Unemployment, unexpectedly, became a period of introspection. With no professional identity to uphold, I had the freedom to explore my strengths and passions without external pressures.
The initial days were filled with a sense of aimlessness. But as the weeks turned into months, a pattern began to emerge. I found myself gravitating towards creative outlets. Writing, once a neglected hobby, became a daily practice. I delved into the world of blogging, experimenting with different styles and topics.
The decision to share my writing online was a leap of faith. The digital world is a vast and competitive space, and the fear of rejection was ever-present. But with each published piece, a sense of accomplishment grew. I discovered a joy in crafting words and sharing my thoughts with the world.
Through my writing, I found a way to combine my love for storytelling with my knowledge of psychology. By exploring complex psychological concepts in an accessible and engaging way, I was able to connect with readers on a deeper level. It was as if I had found my voice, a voice that resonated with others.
Slowly but surely, a following began to grow. What started as a personal outlet transformed into a platform where others found solace, understanding, and a sense of community. People began to share their most intimate thoughts and experiences, trusting me to hold their stories with care and respect. It was through this profound connection that I realized the true impact of my writing. My psychology background provided a framework for empathy and understanding, creating a safe space for others to be heard.

A Journey of Evolution and Connection
What’s your dream job? Every life holds a story worth telling, and every dream holds the power to connect us. Every dream job begins as a spark—a fleeting vision of who we want to be and the impact we hope to create. Yet, as we grow and evolve, so too do our aspirations, reshaping that vision into something entirely new. For me, the idea of a dream job has been less about chasing a fixed goal…

A few friends have gone
Where the heck was I? Working and studying hard from home. That doesn't make me a lanewad. Gotta remember that I was also a raver a couple nights a week.
How'd I get away with that while holding a ft engineering position? Idfk. The thing to remember is that we always sobered up at a diner before getting in our card to get home.
Why's it so tough to take a mom and drink a cup of coffee and eat a bagel before driving into traffic.
On with the story, an EMT thought I was one of the people who messed up the event. Of course I put my hands up and said I've never even gone.
At the worst, I never opened up a snack area on the way there. There's actually nothing on my land.
The med tech was amazed and thought I wasted my engineering money on the wrong things. Nope, I got to go to Yosemite, blading, hiking, rodeos, had a home by the ocean, and I got to open a scholarship fund in the family province.
Don't ever forget where you've come from; always try to pay it back.

A Purpose-Driven Life: Finding and Following Your Calling
Tumblr media
In an era filled with distractions and myriad paths to take, finding and following your calling is akin to discovering a compass in the vast wilderness of life. This pursuit isn't just about a career or profession; it's about uncovering a deeper sense of meaning and direction that guides your decisions, influences your actions, and shapes your legacy. This article explores the journey towards a purpose-driven life, offering actionable insights to help you navigate this quest with clarity and conviction.
Understanding Your Calling
Your calling is that inner voice, a compelling force that drives you towards activities, causes, or professions that resonate deeply with your core. It's where your passions, skills, and the needs of the world intersect, often encapsulated in the Japanese concept of "Ikigai." Identifying your calling begins with introspection and reflection:
Self-Reflection: Dedicate time to self-reflection, considering what truly brings you joy, fulfillment, and a sense of accomplishment. Journaling your thoughts and experiences can provide clarity and reveal patterns or themes in your interests and passions.
Feedback Loop: Seek feedback from close friends, family, or mentors who know you well. They can offer valuable insights into your strengths and the impact you've had through your actions and decisions.
Exploration: Engage in diverse experiences to broaden your perspective and discover new passions. Volunteering, traveling, learning new skills, or even taking on different roles within your current job can illuminate previously hidden paths.
Aligning with Your Values
A purpose-driven life is deeply aligned with your personal values. These values act as your moral compass, guiding your decisions and actions. To ensure your calling aligns with your values:
Identify Your Core Values: List out your top values—such as integrity, compassion, creativity, or resilience. Reflect on how these values have shaped your life choices and how they can guide your pursuit of your calling.
Value-Based Decision Making: With your core values in mind, evaluate your current life and career choices. Are they in alignment? If not, consider what changes you might need to make to live more congruently with your values.
Setting Purpose-Driven Goals
Once you have a clearer understanding of your calling and how it aligns with your values, it's time to set purpose-driven goals. These goals should be specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound (SMART), but they should also resonate with your deeper purpose:
Long-Term Vision: Craft a vision for your life that incorporates your calling. What does success look like in this context? Imagine your life in 5, 10, or 20 years if you fully embrace your calling.
Break It Down: Translate your long-term vision into medium and short-term goals. What steps do you need to take this year, this month, or even this week to move closer to your calling?
Action Plans: For each goal, develop a clear action plan. What resources do you need? Who can help you? What obstacles might you face, and how will you overcome them?
Embracing the Journey
Remember, finding and following your calling is a journey, not a destination. It requires patience, resilience, and the willingness to adapt and grow. Along the way:
Stay Flexible: Your understanding of your calling may evolve as you grow and gather new experiences. Stay open to revisiting and refining your path.
Celebrate Progress: Acknowledge and celebrate your achievements, no matter how small. Each step forward is a victory on this journey.
Seek Support: Surround yourself with a community of mentors, peers, and loved ones who support and encourage your pursuit of a purpose-driven life.
In conclusion, a purpose-driven life transcends the superficial markers of success, offering a profound sense of fulfillment and direction. By understanding your calling, aligning it with your values, setting purpose-driven goals, and embracing the journey with flexibility and resilience, you can navigate life's complexities with confidence and clarity. Remember, the pursuit of your calling is one of the most rewarding journeys you can undertake, filled with growth, learning, and the joy of contributing to something larger than yourself.

I know that penelope saying "don't tell me you're not the same person, you're always my husband" is just supposed to be her saying that all she cares about is that he's odysseus and he loves her (and don't get me wrong it IS incredibly sweet and romantic and it makes me tear up a little)
but considering the first thing odysseus does in the musical is commit war crimes and then he just never stops at all, it tickles me to think that she's also saying he's always been a horrible little monster, she's always known, and she thinks the horrors are part of the fun.

please don't mistake silence for hatred. please don't mistake unanswered plotting messages as indifference, or a lack of enthusiasm towards you. considering the ages of most roleplayers, many of us have bills to pay, families to take care of, medical conditions to treat, appointments to make, classes to take, homes to clean, and lives to live away from the computer that are far, far more important than writing on tumblr — life has a tendency to get in the way of hobbies and fun things like this. be patient with your fellow writers. if it doesn't work out, it doesn't work out. of course you can set your boundaries, keep your space comfortable, and softblock whoever you wish, but do so while recognizing it's probably not hatred or apathy that keeps them from leaping into your dms with message after message. they probably love this hobby just as much as you... but sometimes life gets in the way.

there is something about magic systems that borrow from a specific craft that makes them so special. Maybe it’s because they feel more tangible and it’s very easy to get swept away by the passion for the craft that is clearly written on every page.
Whether it’s the art based magic system in Witch Hat Atelier. Or the translation based magic system in Babel. Or the alchemy/chemistry based magic system in Fullmetal Alchemist.
The relation to a specific craft makes the characters passion for their magic feel so personal and relatable. Because there is magic in art, in translation, in chemistry and any other craft that people partake in. The magic system becomes a love letter towards creation and everyone who creates and there is nothing world building wise that could be more charming.

crying screaming throwing up in a fit of borderline hysteria begging kim kitsuragi to quit his job. they treat you like ass. it's not fulfilling work. it's actively hurting you and the community. quit your job. find peace. do literally anything else with your life i am begging you.
Tumblr media
i only kind of understand how the rcm rank system works so forgive me if this doesn't sound quite right but. kim worked in juvie for 15 years despite (most likely) being overqualified for detective work at some point in those 15 years. then he spent a year in processing, despite, again, most likely being overqualified. then he spent 4 years presumably working his way up to lieutenant. in a work environment that was just as racist as the previous one. all this is to say, i don't think criminal investigations would've made that swift rank advancement very easy for kim. going presumably from patrol officer to a 4x decorated lieutenant in 4 years sounds like crunch and burnout waiting to happen, if i'm understanding everything right.
granted, he wasn't in as grueling of a district as precinct 41, and he has half of harry's case load (not that it's a competition on who can have the most self destructive burnout imaginable). but still, it sounds bad. it sounds awful. it sounds like he should resign immediately and never look back. do literally anything else with your life kim, i promise there are more fulfilling jobs out there.
