[CONTENT WARNING for mentions of inter generational incest and grooming below, nothing explicit.] Hm. You know, it's a little unfortunate that we have reduced every depiction of characters having a relationship that is at all romantic or sexual in nature (not even, really, I've only ever drawn them hugging LOL) as "shipping". I don't "like" them together in the way I like DU drow and Astarion together, for example, and they never really were together. I made up a story that I find interesting, because I find Orin interesting and wanted to explore her themes more, and liked the idea that hers and Durge's relationship wasn't always "bad".

I really enjoy writing for DU drow, I put a lot of effort into making his story feel fleshed out and suited for the in-game universe. It's a little disheartening that some people may harp on this without considering that there is a wider context beyond it just tickling me, somehow. These are two characters who've never even had sex, in which one of them (Orin) isn't even interested in romance or "mating", and the other one has no concept of healthy relationships, familial or otherwise and just desperately grasps at the one thing he feels a kinship to: to the eventual disintegration of the one relationship he had that approached anything to mutual understanding and relatability.

Theirs isn't a love story, it's a story about isolation and grooming that led to total dependency. If you've been told your whole life that everyone and everything is fated to die at your hand, that your kind is meant to be contained within a genetical crockpot, that debauchery is normalcy and everyone else is the enemy, it is no huge stretch that you would dump all expectations of companionship onto your one, supposed equal - friend, sister, mate, should-be-lover. And then, if you're a bad person on top of that, you won't take no for an answer.

Add to that that your grandfather (Sarevok) is apparently in total agreement and a practicant of the idea of inbreeding for weird purity purposes and you have yourself an environment where an obsession like such can be born - one that Orin wants nothing to do with, because unlike DU drow, she doesn't become distracted by matters of the heart - and hence we have conflict, and we have reason for resentment to brew over time. At some point in the past, they had a "good" (within the bhaalist concept) relationship, and there was nothing sexual or romantic about it. DU drow crushed that. And then he got a worm in his brain for it.

Is that shipping? 🤷 idk

Was it a cop-out to summon Jazz back to the Far Frozen? Yes. Did Danny particularly care? Nope! 

Jason was comfortable, propped up with a book Ghostwriter who had popped by to personally deliver. How the ghost had known about Jason Phantom wasn’t going to question, but he suspected GW kept an eye on the bookworms that passed through the Realms- or at least those close to the “Royal family”. Phantom wasn’t much for reading, not unless it was space-related, but he enjoyed listening to the Liminal man reading out loud. He had a brash voice, accented with a cadence like those from Crime Alley, but it only underscored the passion he held for reading. Phantom didn’t interrupt him once, not even when the halfa pulled out his ecto-phone and texted Ellie. 

(His little sister was in Kansas, spending time with another clone she’d literally run into.) 

Almost another full day's cycle passed before Phantom realized Jason had fallen back asleep, a book resting open on his broad chest and soft snores coming from the man. 

Yeah, he could see how he and Jazz fit together so well. 

There was just something about the Once-Revenant, a part of what made him Jason, that resonated with the Phantom. It’s what made him talk to the man as Red Hood, feel comfortable enough to stay in his company for so long, trust him with his older sister- the person who raised him.

The abolishment of the Anti-Ecto Acts officially happened at three pm on a dreary Gotham Tuesday. Jazz was cuddled with Jason on his couch, dozing off to his heartbeat as he read Pride and Prejudice for the thousandth time. The comfortable silence they had wrapped themselves in only occasionally broken by Jason turning a page was completely shattered when Jazz’s phone rang with the Ghostbusters theme song. 

“Danny?” Jazz answered surprised, “School isn’t out yet, what’s wrong?” She was greeted by Danny’s heaving cries as he replied. 

“Batman, he- he did it!” Danny sobbed, “He saved us.” 

It clicked then. The Dark Knight had completed the task he was entrusted with by a Spirit of Protection, the Once and Future Star King, and unknowingly kept the promise a ghost made to a young Jasmine Fenton. 

One day my son will stop this. All of this. You only need to be strong. Take care of yourself and your brother. I promise. 

She had waited years for the promise to be fulfilled, the sworn promise of the dead to a living child. Jasmine was a patient soul, but she had still been a child that night in Gotham. 

(The Drs. Fenton believing the stories about a ghostly vigilante patrolling the streets, a never aging child by their side.) (Dragging their children with them. ) (Hungry and cold.) (A dead man who swore his son would end their torment one day.)

(She should’ve known it wouldn’t come fast enough to save Danny.) 

How was she to know the ghost was speaking of the Realms inhabitants, not the abused and neglected children of Ghost Hunters? How was she to know that the hope such a promise kindled wasn’t hers to keep?  Jason wrapped his arms around her, the book set aside and her phone gently taken from her grasp to be put on speaker so they could both talk to her little brother. Danny had dissolved from heaving sobs to muffled hiccups, seemingly now that he’d shared the news with his sister. 

“He really did,” she muttered. “He really did it.” 

(The furry fucker actually did it.) (She’d known that he was going to try, but humans are stubborn creatures.)

I have deleted so much of my writing because I don't like the flow/dialogue/pacing. Original ending thrown out and rewritten twice- still don't care for it. Who knew something other than Angst would be so difficult.

You grabbed the Pepsi from the console, opening the lid and taking a few sips. You then looked at the logo colour, it was blue. You spoke “whoops, my bad.” Chris turned to look at you “did you just drink, MY drink?!” You defended “I didn’t know!! I just saw the logo and drank it!” Chris laughed “dude!! Yours is literally by Nick how can you get confused??” You shrugged “my bad…” you put the drink back in the console. Then drinking your own Pepsi.

You finally got back on track of the video’s actual content. You held Nick’s phone and asked “what’s it like living with Y/n?” Nick spoke first “the best, honestly, like she’s an all in one, ya know? Friend, sister, partner in crime, legit, everything you can think of, Y/n can do.” You smiled.

Chris replied “she’s the best sister we could all ever ask for, she legit grounds us, so much. Also the best person to talk to, like on the down, she’s your wing woman, for real.” Matt nods “agreed, like you can go to her for anything and she can help you, also she’s great at adjusting to people social interaction, like she’s a ‘go with the flow’ type of person. Like if you’re quiet, she’ll be quiet. If you’re loud, she’ll match your entry to a tee.” You smiled “awww you cuties, thanks! Love ya guys!” They all say in almost synch “love you too!”

however, in bungou stray dogs there's two canonical siblings (there's theories they aren't actually related and are lovers pretending so people don't think they're dating bcz of a big age gap bcz bungou stray dogs characters are based off of novel characters and authors and thats a book plot with characters with the same names as these siblings, however it's just a theory) and it is HEAVILYYY implied they are fucking, even the characters themeselves aknowledge they act like lovers and are weird and tell the protaganists to just ignore them. and idk if it's my translation of one of the light novels but there's a line in one where it legit says "naomi(16 yr old sister) tried to force herself onto tanizaki(18 yr old brother)" probably not word for word but i havent read it in a while and its basically played for laughs bcz its mentioned as a one off line for when the brother goes into a kitchenette alone and never mentioned after, literally gave me whiplash i was like u can just drop that line and noT MENTION IT AGAIN??? and these antis are reading the manga and watching the show and aknowledge therae siblings are fucking and then harrass anyone who ships siblings.

Also, there's an anthology (although tbh i'm not sure if the anthologies are considered canon but otherwise it's also implied that this character is a pedo for his magical superpower that manifiests as a prepubescent girl) where this just calls his superpower that's sort of a prepubescent girl his "wife" and everyone in the fandom hates him for that (and never the fact that he controls the whole damn mafia and has canonically mentally messed with kids so bad one got put in a mental hospital and didn't even want to leave anymore) also like they harrass and call anyone who likes his character(or even finds him well written) a pedo. but the author, who wrote this probably a pedo guy and these siblings fucking, no one hates him (hell, there's even people saying it's all the 16 yr old girls fault bcz tanizaki is too pure, honestly like 1, seems kinda sexist how ur blaming the girl who's a child 2, THEY AREN'T REALLL, IT'S NEITHERS FAULT THAT THEIR FUCKING, ITS THE AUTHORSSS.

there's antishippers who will say anyone who ships a ship where one character met the other as a teen and adult should kill themselves bcz it's gross. however the teen canonically grew up after the guy died and said that if the guy was a woman he would've comitted double suicide with him (please note this is said by a character who makes it very clear they want to commit double suicide with a woman they find attractive and are in love with bcz it would be sooo "romantic").

like the author has written all these icky ships and given them some sort of material, if you're gonna tell the people who ship those ships to kill themselves and that you'll shit in their food (real things these antis have said btw) then at least denounce the author too? like not even sent hate but at least understand this fandom isn't for you and its for people can handle icky fictional stuff.

I’d been on holiday for about a week now, halfway through the break I’d quote-unquote “deserved.” I hated being away from my work. It’s part of who I am—it is who I am. But my boss had quite literally threatened to fire me if I didn’t take time off. I’d just come back from dinner at the sandwich place my mom had recommended and was 100% ready for bed. I stepped into the elevator and hit the button for the seventh floor, glad to finally have a moment to myself after a long day of tourist attractions.

Just as the gleaming silver doors were about to close, a tattooed hand slipped through, and they opened again. I knew that tattoo. Three lines across the wrist. I had the closest thing to that tattoo I could get without injecting ink into my wrist—three hair ties placed perfectly around my arm. Regardless, I knew the tattoo and the person attached to it. Tyler Joseph.

My little sister loved his band and would fight me for the aux cord to play their music. Not to mention the several posters of his and that other guy’s face sprung about her room. I froze for a second, recognizing his face almost instantly. I wanted to say hi, I wanted to tell him I liked his music—despite the number of times I complained enough for my sister to turn it off. But I swallowed that thought, determined not to make things weird. I’ve met famous people before; this should have been no different. I pretended not to notice who he was and stared straight ahead.

“Sorry,” he said with a polite smile, pressing the button for the eighth floor.

“No problem,” I replied, my voice steady, though my heart beat a little faster than I’d like.

The elevator began its smooth climb. It was quiet, and I caught myself glancing at him, trying not to be too obvious. He was... just a guy, right? I focused on the numbers lighting up above the doors, reminding myself to keep it together. But suddenly, the elevator shuddered and came to a jerking stop. The lights flickered briefly, and I lost my balance for a second, grabbing the rail for support.

Tyler pressed the emergency button, frowning slightly. “Looks like we’re stuck.”

“Yeah,” I muttered, more to myself than to him. Just what I needed today.

He let out a breath, leaning against the wall. “Hopefully, it won’t be long.”

I nodded, leaning back as well. It was strange being in such a confined space with him, pretending I didn’t know who he was. But I figured it was better this way—less awkward, less pressure. Still, the silence felt heavy, and I couldn’t help but feel a little self-conscious.

“So,” Tyler said after a moment, breaking the thick silence, “you here for work or vacation?”

I swallowed, my mind still racing from the fact that I was stuck in an elevator with him. “Vacation,” I replied, keeping it short. “Against my will, mostly.”

He chuckled lightly, but there was something distant about his expression, like he wasn’t really here. “Same. Well, kind of. It’s supposed to be a break, but I’m bad at that. I enjoy my work.”

I let out a soft laugh, finding it easier to relate than I thought. “Yeah, same here. I feel like I should be working, even though I’m supposed to be enjoying myself.”

“Funny how that works,” he muttered, his voice quieter now, almost like he was talking to himself. He ran a hand through his hair, his eyes drifting to the floor. “Even when you get time to relax, it’s hard to actually relax.”

I knew what he meant, and there was an odd heaviness in the air, like the conversation was teetering on the edge of something deeper. I wanted to ask—wanted to know what weighed on him—but I stayed quiet, unsure if it was my place.

“I don’t know how to turn off,” I admitted, more to break the silence than anything. “Even now, I feel like I should be doing something productive. It’s stupid, really.”

He didn’t respond right away, his gaze still fixed on the floor as if lost in thought. When he finally spoke, his voice was softer, almost weary. “It’s not stupid. I get it.”

There was something in the way he said it, a kind of quiet exhaustion that hit me harder than I expected. For a moment, I forgot who he was—the lead singer of a famous band, the guy whose lyrics my sister screamed at the top of her lungs. He just sounded... tired. And I knew that feeling all too well.

“I guess it’s hard when your work becomes your identity,” I said, not realizing how close to home the words would hit until they were out in the open.

He looked up at me then, something shifting in his expression, like maybe I’d touched on something personal. His lips twitched into a small, tired smile. “Yeah. It’s like... you can’t escape it, even when you try.”

I nodded, feeling a weird, growing connection. But at the same time, I couldn’t shake the tension that was building inside me. Part of me wanted to say more, to let him know I understood—that I knew who he was and why this hit home for him. But that part of me was overruled by the fear of making things weird. He didn’t need another stranger prying into his life.

The elevator remained still, the hum of machinery the only sound for a while. I felt restless, stuck not just in the elevator, but in my own head. Why was I holding back? It wasn’t like he’d care. He probably forgot people the moment they left his sight.

“So,” I started, my voice coming out more hesitant than I intended, “is it... hard for you to, you know, get time off? I imagine you don’t get many breaks.”

Tyler let out a short laugh, though it didn’t quite reach his eyes. “You have no idea.”

I bit my lip, unsure how to respond to that. Something about the way he said it made me think there was more to the story. But again, I wasn’t sure I should push.

“I’m sure it’s not easy being recognized everywhere you go either,” I added cautiously, testing the waters.

He looked at me, his eyes narrowing slightly, as if he was trying to figure out if I really knew who he was or if that was just a passing comment. I could see the shift in his posture, like he was preparing for something—maybe for me to mention his name, to fan out.

“I know you know who I am,” he chuckled under his breath. I let out a sigh of relief. 

“Was it that obvious?”

He nodded, probably used to fans pretending they didn’t know who he was.

“Yeah, but you seem cool,” he smiled. 

“Well, that’s a relief,” I muttered, though I could feel the awkwardness settling in.

But before he could say anything, the elevator suddenly jolted to life, the hum of machinery filling the silence. The floor numbers lit up again, and we began moving.

“Yeah,” Tyler agreed, but he still seemed to be studying me, his expression thoughtful. There was a pause, and then he asked, “So, you said you’re here on vacation. What do you do when you’re not... being forced to take time off?”

I hesitated for a second, then decided there was no harm in telling the truth. “I work in the film industry,” I said. “Mostly behind the scenes—editing, production stuff.”

His eyebrows raised slightly, genuine interest sparking in his tired eyes. “That’s cool. Must be a creative job.”

“Yeah, it’s... intense, but I love it.” I shrugged, feeling a bit more relaxed now that we were back on neutral ground.

The doors dinged, and we reached the seventh floor. As I stepped out, I felt a small tug of curiosity and... maybe something else.

Tyler cleared his throat before I could go. “Hey, I know this is random, but... you seem really cool and I’d love to hear more about your work. Maybe we could grab a coffee sometime?”

I blinked, caught off guard by the request. “Oh, um, yeah, sure.”

He smiled—this time a little more genuine—and pulled out his phone. “Could I get your number? No pressure or anything.”

I gave him my number, trying not to think about the surrealness of it all. Once he had it saved, the doors began to close again.

“See you around,” he said with a nod.

And just like that, the doors slid shut, leaving me standing in the hallway, wondering how a simple elevator ride had turned into... whatever this was.

Hey, I haven’t read Little Women or any of the books related, the only adaptation I have seen is Greta Gerwig’s and I’ve recently rewatched it. And I have some thoughts are mostly ramblings and need to express to someone so I hope you don’t mind me popping in here. I don’t really know where people got that Jo was In love with Laurie? She loved him as a friend but romantically? I never got that really. And how I took that scene with Jo and Marmee was Jo admitting she was lonely and if Laurie asked her to marry him again she would say yes. That’s kinda unfair to herself and him when you think about it, marrying someone just because you’re lonely? Not because you are truly in love with him? How would you both be happy together? I’ve seen some discussion around them and I don’t really like people putting in the tropes “oh lovers who went wrong or right person wrong time” to Jo and Laurie. Because they weren’t lovers, they were friends. And I don’t understand where people get Jo being the “right” person for Laurie. I wish we could have gotten more of Jo and Friedrich. They were cute I think. And I wish we could have gotten more with Amy and Laurie. I think this summer I’m gonna find the books and read them. ur totally right, jo never loved laurie romantically. like, ever. and it's made obvious multiple times. ("i can't love you as you want me to...it would be a lie to say i do when i don't," in the proposal scene.) and it's especially made clear in the attic scene, with jo admitting she's just so lonely. but if you can't get it from: marmee: do you love [laurie]? jo: if he asked me again, i think i would say yes. do you think he'll ask me again? marmee: but do you love him? jo: i care more to be loved. i want to be loved. marmee: that is not the same as loving. jo: i know. like ur honestly dumb i'm sorry? or don't know how to read media at all. or ur just being willingly obtuse idk.

and i would go even further. i firmly believe that laurie never loved jo that way, either. that boy was lonely before he met the march family. maybe even lonelier than jo was after beth died. he was an orphan, lived with his tutor and his grandfather (who was kind of cold to laurie before he met the marches, as well.) he had no friends. jo was the first girl he loved at all, in any way. of course he thought he was in love with jo. he didn't know any other love except the love had for her. and laurie was a romantic, as well. of course he thought the two of them were meant to be.

but they weren't, ever, and that's made so clear from their conversation in the attic. laurie: jo, i have always loved you, but the love i feel for amy, it's different. and i think you were right about this, i think we would've killed each other...i think it was meant this way. like...do jolauries think laurie is lying to jo? what reason would he have to do that? it doesn't make any sense.

and jo looks so stunned (this is admittedly clearer in the book than it is in greta's version) because it's amy. not because she's jealous, or expected laurie to still love her, but because her best friend just came home married to her little sister. that would stun anyone. and she looks sad, again, because she's so lonely, and she basically looks at the rest of her family coupled up and in love (amy and laurie, meg and john, marmee and her father) and she aches, because she doesn't have that.

i really think greta's only mistake was including that stupid letter to laurie. it didn't make sense and wasn't true to jo's character at all.

and finally, once again, laurie doesn't love jo like that. not back then, and certainly not now. i mean, the journey from "i think you will marry, jo. i think you'll find someone, and love them, and live and die from them, because that's your way. and i'll watch," to "i never thought i'd prepare a carriage to help jo march chase a man, but i like it!" he's delighted in that scene, just like everyone else. bc the jo he saw with friedrich was so different that the jo that was around him. he can tell the difference because he knows the difference now, because that boy is so desperately in love with amy it's not funny.

and that's another thing jolauries disregard: laurie's love for amy. because he does love her. and amy loves him, and understands him in a way that jo never did. and laurie wants to be better for amy. because, let's face it, that boy was a mess when amy found him in europe. (and this is one other thing the movie leaves out: laurie realizes in the book that jo was right shortly after he leaves concord - the two of them would've never worked. and by the time he meets up with amy again, he isn't still mourning his relationship with jo, he's just insurmountably lonely again, just like he was before, and he doesn't see an end to it.) he heals bc he falls in love with amy. he wants to be worthy of her, because he admires her and respects her. there's a great first draft of the script which is floating around on the internet which includes this letter from laurie to amy: Dear Amy, I have gone to make something of myself, so you might not be ashamed to call me your friend. like...he just got his heart broken by her. but he doesn't get angry at her, like he got angry at jo, because he loves amy. and he wants to be around her and is desperate to have her in his life, even if it's just as a friend.

and, just to give more evidence that amy is the first and only person he's in love with (and because i just love it a lot), here's the original draft of their kiss scene: laurie: i love you. amy, i love you. amy: you do? laurie: more than anything or anyone in this world. you are first in everything. you do not have to accept me, but i love you, amy march. [amy cries even harder. he kisses her.] amy: i love you, laurie laurie: i love you, amy march. laurie literally has gently but ardently resigned himself to loving amy even if she doesn't love him back, which is such a change from when jo rejected him.

and ur totally right, jo and friedrich are so cute together (even though louis garrel is unfortunately an asshole). and more importantly, friedrich understands jo in a way laurie never did, and lover her for who she is instead of who he wants her to be. and come on, when friedrich says, "my hands are empty," and jo takes his hands in hers and says, "they're not empty," and then he kisses her in the rain. like that is peak romance idk what anyone says.

anyways. tl;dr jo never loved laurie, laurie never loved jo, laurie is in love with amy, jo is in love with friedrich.

about newtenda im so glad u asked :')

if newt had survived, he would have DEFINITELY bonded with brenda over their shared trauma of nearly turning into cranks. lemme elaborate.

so i have this hc to cope with newt and teresa's death wherein a couple of days after reaching the safe haven the teens sneak back to the last city for some reason where they find the bodies of newt and teresa. obviously it's heartbreaking for them, but they quickly realise that by some miracle both of them barely survived. so they took the two of them back to the haven and after long treatments they finally regained their consciousness and stuff.

now newt comes back almost perfectly fine and normal thanks to thomas nd the cure - but due to him getting slowly infected over the long period of time in tst and tdc, he didn't fully become... human, if that makes sense. he still has violent episodes and tendencies to act kinda rogue, almost as it he's still under the control of the flare. and this is something brenda relates to. although not in as severe condition as newt, she still sometimes gets violent tendencies about which only jorge knows.

so she notices newt showing visible signs of stress and uneasiness just like she did after getting cured, and talks to him about it. to divert his attention from the ingrowing panic she uses the method we use to cope with anxiety attacks (three things u can see and touch rn). it starts actually working for him by some goddang miracle (i trust too much in miracles lmfao 😭🙏) but he sometimes cannot control it, causing the majority of people to stay away from him.

but not brenda. she helps him slowly subdue the murderous tendencies and wild behaviours which come free with the crank package. AND THIS IS HOW THEY BOND AAAAA LMAOO.

u have brenda healing newt for something she didn't do, and he repays it by helping her cope with her episodes and nightmares about her brother. that's literally how they end up crushing for each other which is visible to the whole wide world but not them. OH AND ALSO i have this hc where newt regained all his memories back after he got healed, meaning he remembered his baby sister sonya/lizzy. and sonya/lizzy is definitely the greatest newtenda shipper in existence (maybe alongside minho who ships newt with everyone lmfao)

BUT u also have jorge in overprotective dad mode whenever he sees newt being a lil too close to brenda hehe 🤭

And yes I'm planning on making a character profile for Marina, she's only been mentioned in snippets and the discord for now but she actually plays a big role in my AU since she's Dan's sister (among other reasons hehehehe).

I love their sibling dynamic, it's very fun to play with. The profile might take a bit because I need to do some worldbuilding and namefinding but here some Marina facts to tide you over:

Dan's nickname for her is Rina.

She bullies Dan in typical sibling fashion but she's very much ride or die for her loved ones (possessiveness runs through the family). So, if you hurt Dan, she will ruin you.

She knows everything there is to know about everyone in the Mafia, she's the Gossip Queen and her network spans wide.

As a fellow intel person, Marina is quite familiar with Yves but... they can't really stand her guts, because Marina's domain is rumours and word of mouth, while Yves prefers hard facts and cold truth. Marina considers their dislike abosultely hilarious and keeps inviting them to her tea parties so she can rile them up. Yves knows what she's doing, they know they're being messed with but they can never resist not attending because while they can't stand gossip they still know it can be useful, so tea parties it is. This results in regular meet ups where they eat delicate snacks and passive aggressively insult each other over their tea cups.

Marina looks quite similar to Dan. Same hair colour, same skin tone. Even similar height (she's a bit smaller than Dan but balances it out by wearing heels). You can instantly spot their relation.

- socket mentions having a dog in the game, and his japanese name is pochi, which is also like the JP equivalent of ‘fido’ so thats a happy coincidence

Your immersive mods have absolutely transformed stardew for me, its always been my fave game but ur writing and also events and interactions are so fucking good and what i always crave in these kind of life sims!! Im studying game dev rn and i wanted to pick ur brain a bit if thats okay. U mentioned that my time at sandrock and also other romance mods like rrrr were inspos which i all adore! in a game like stardew or mtas what do u think the best way to enhance romance would be, like u have done such an incredible job at really making the romance feel not only more natural but also so so much more cuter and also perfectly spicy!! Also when u plan these mods as a whole, how do u plan out the dialogue or events? Kinda like whats ur process? Once again just wanna say i love ur work and i would love to one day create a game that has romance that made me feel the way i do when playing through ur mods!!

Thank you!! For my immersive mods, I have kind of a template. There's the standard events for the even heart numbers, and I usually just edit the lines a bit on those to match my writing style and do the same for existing dialogue. After that, I add all my content around the existing structure. I have a general idea of the story I want to tell for the character, for Sebastian, Sam, and Alex it was around finding their path in life and goals for the future, to become the people they wanted to be. For the mods I'm working on now, the stories are more in-depth and complex since the characters are older (Lance, June, and a couple of OCs).

I like to map out where the character is starting from and where I want them to end up, then add milestones to hit along the way for the heart levels. For example, Sebastian starts unsure what he's doing with his life, and just basically drifting along, letting what happens happen. I had him hit milestones, like reconnecting with his sister, coming to terms with his past, deciding on future goals, reconciling with Demetrius, and basically maturing into an adult. So his dialogue and events are mapped to hit those milestones. Adding related character reactions to major events brings other people into the story and adds the community feeling since people in a small town don't live in isolation. The romance is set up the same way with hitting milestones for heart levels, and I have tokens set up to change the dialogue for whether the character is single or dating the farmer at 8 hearts so the romance makes sense. In the mods I'm working on now, I'm using a friend or romance route token, so the player can choose if they plan to romance the character. If they are, the romance dialogue builds from 6 hearts to have a more gradual and smooth progression.

Stardew is actually a very simple game with it comes to character interactions, so adding the reaction dialogue and connecting stories really brings them together and creates that community feeling. I also have year-to-year dialogue for the festivals that remembers what happened in previous years and builds the story. It takes some effort to code the dialogue to trigger in order, but it's definitely worthwhile. If you're creating a game, having triggers for progressive dialogue really helps then you don't have to do workaround shenanigans like I've done on my mods ;D
