Wen Kexing, Scorpion King and Gu-Xiang raised together in ghost valley.

This lovely user had produced a VERY interesting Au that I couldn't help myself but make a lil drabble/one shot on it. @naniya27 I hope you like it! I had fun playing around with Xi'er hahahah. (one shot under the cut)

Zhou Zishu didn't know if he should gape in surprise or tilt his head in confusion at the sight of Wen Kexing and a VERY familiar man clad in black conversing by their table. He had only stood up to order himself some more wine and all of the sudden there was an assassin sitting beside Wen Kexing, more so, this assassin wasn't even trying to kill him.

"Where have you been? I've been looking all over for you-" The man whined.

"I told you I will be "around" little brat, didn't A-Xiang inform you of my whereabouts?" Wen Kexing retorted, his carefree smile widened as he tilted his head back to drink his beverage as if this assassin was not in the least bit dangerous. "Da-ge, you know I would be busy, did you purposely send me away to have your little adventures?" The man pouted, POUTED, as though he was a little brother feigning hurt just to gain favor from his older brother.

'Have I missed something here?' Zhou Zishu internally blanched, approaching their table slowly.

When the man's eyes landed on to him all the traces of playfulness disappeared and a hard mask was set in place. The man straightened in his seat like a proper gentleman with his eyes cold and observant. Zhou Zishu internally shivered, The man looked every bit like he was once did back when he was still serving the prince.

"Ah! A-Xu, come come, you took too long" Wen Kexing whined pettily which gained a slightly shocked but nonetheless passive expression from his companion. "I was gone for 5 minutes Lao Wen-"

"Five minutes too long, a-xu don't deprived me of your beauty" His soulmate winked.

The scandalized look on the scorpion's face ALMOST made Zhou Zishu want to play along with his fan man's antics, but his mind was still too muddled to comprehend just WHY this man was even here.

"Lao Wen, i don't think you need me here if you got a companion?" Zhou Zishu challenged, the man's eyebrows twitched. Either from annoyance or anger he didn't know. "Ah, my bad, A-Xu this is Xie Wang, Xi-er say hello to my beautiful A-Xu" Again, Wen Kexing had that silly sparkling look in his eyes that quiet frankly Zishu decided he would never tire from. "Wen Gongzi, I was not aware you harbored stowaways in your journey" Zishu wanted to snort at that. as if he had not seen the way this "Xi-er" acted while he was not there.

"I know who he is Lao Wen, did not know the Ghost valley is familiar with the Scorpion" Zhou Zishu tilted his head, sitting down across from Wen Kexing. Xi-er looked ready to retort a smartass reply, probably something Wen Kexing had taught himself when the older man beat him to it.

"Ayiah, the ghost valley and Scorpions had always been allies A-Xu, is it not a common knowledge?" he asked.

Zishu only shrugged his shoulder. being an ex-assassin he could always read people based on their body language, and though the man in front of him was of similar occupation, Zishu could not help but chuckle at the way Xi-er's knee slowly moved to touch Wen Kexing's in a protective manner ,or how his jaw flexed slightly indicating that he was grinding his teeth behind his mouth, the piercing eyes never left him for a moment as if anticipating Zishu's attack at anytime. truth be told he looked about ready to drive Zishu away himself.

"Ah that reminds me, I seemed to have forgotten to buy some herbs too take back to the manor, eh A-xu i'll be back in a bit" He smiled warmly before standing up to leave. Zishu knows it's bullshit, Lao Wen would never run off to "buy" something not unless he asked for money first, so Zishu figured that this was his chance to get to know this person, whatever Lao Wen had in mind anyway.

"So...Leader Zhou, we meet again" Xi-'er smiled politely, though the ex assassin knew that that was FAR from a friendly one, more like a challenge. "Yes, after you abducted Chengling" he fired back, smile as taxing. Xie'er ,in a moment of weakness, groaned "Please, don't remind me, i already got an earful from Da'ge about that, I don't want to hear the same from you"

Zishu raised his eyebrow in surprise and confusion, okay so he was not hallucinating then. this scorpion DID call Lao Wen "Da ge"

"Pardon?" said Zishu.

"How was I supposed to know that Zhang boy was your ward and you were with Da ge anyway? he hadn't contacted me ever since he got out of the valley" he pouted...again. "Besides, I already said sorry to him" he reasoned again. Zishu smirked at that "So you said sorry to him and not me or Chengling?"

"Hell no, I don't even know you. and why are you even sticking to Da'ge anyway? this wasn't even in his plan" Xie'er rolled his eyes so far back he was sure it would pop out. The ex- assassin only laughed at that. No, Lao Wen did NOT anticipate their meeting nor did Zishu himself, but he'd be damned if he was the one sticking to Wen Kexing. that fan wielding man was the one who clung to him in the first place.

Just before he could retort Chengling arrived just in time to See Xi-er slightly leaned forward at the table as if he was about to attack Zishu. "Chengling" the swordsman started, but Chengling was fast to run to his side and position himself just behind Zhou Zishu. Xie'er was not pleased. "Little idiot, I thought you went off to buy more supplies for-"

"I was! but Shishu told me to come back here and that he would handle it himself"

'Lao Wen I swear to-'

"Shishu? hah, who are you calling shishu? my Da'ge would never let anyone call him that" Zi'er

"Your Da'ge, definetly did" Zishu almost could not contain his laugh at the scorpion King's scandalized and shocked expression. "This is ridiculous" the scorpion King stood up with al the gracehe could muster in anger "I'm going to find him and set this right" he harrumped, swishing his robes as he disappeared out the tavern.

Chengling, who was still slightly cowering behind him stuttered. "Sh-Shifu, wasn't tha-"

"Yes, don't worry i'll talk to your Shishu about this, come on. Let's go and finish getting those herbs before we go home"

"Lao Wen"

"Hmmn?" Wen Kexing hummed, stirring a pot of hot steamed vegetables with chicken soup simmering by the side. "Xie'er was...something" at the mention of his brother Kexing stopped for a second before continuing his minstrations. as if reading Zishu's mind on wanting a clearer explanation, Wen Kexing caved "I found him when I was still in ghost valley. he was one of the children who had been abducted and brought to us" the taller man swallowed hard, clearly struggling, though his face showed little emotion.

"He almost died, luckily I got to him in time and managed to save him, hiding him away was the hardest part. it took a while before he trusted me but once he did I found that I could not turn him away"

Zhou Zishu sighed, with a burst of bravery he walked over to his Zhiji and wrapped his hands around his waist, his head came to rest on Lao Wen's shoulder. "He lived with me for several years,and then Gu-xiang appeared. We barely managed to save her but when Xie'er promised ties with the Scorpion to the former Ghost valley chief he let her go, when I became chief I finally let him go back to his home where he can see his parents again" Wen Kexing stopped, longer this time. His hand shook as he removed the pots from the fire to prevent them from burning, he turned to Zhou Zishu, eyes full of guilt and sorrow.

"But...it was too late, his parents had been killed and with no one to take the title Xi'er had to assume the role and had to band together the scorpions that we know today. He was only 17 that time A-Xu, it took years before he could properly get a hold of the others and most of the time I wasn't even there to help him. I still had Gu-Xiang to raise and it wasn't time for me to emerge from the valley. He had to come to me multiple times-"

Wen Kexing faltered. Zishu figure that was enough, he didn't think Lao Wen would actually tell him that much. The shorter man steadily turned his soulmate to face him, his eyes soft and understanding as he slowly leaned in, just enough to let Lao Wen back out if he so wanted. but the other man stayed in place. He finally rest his forehead against Lao Wen's. in an instant, his partner loosened up, hand began to encircle around his waist as Zishu moved closer, feeling their noses touch.

"Lao Wen, you did great"

At that high praise and implication, Wen Kexing could not help but to shed tears of relief and gratefulness. Zishu understood, Zishu accepted. and most of all Zhou Zishu stayed.

Bonus: Timeline.

Wen Kexing was around 7 or 8 when he was brought in to Ghost valley. so let's say he was 7.

Xie'er came to ghost valley when he was 8 years old making Wen Kexing 15.

Gu-xiang came to valley when she was 7 making Wen Kexing 18 and Xi'er 11.

Wen Kexing was 20 when he took over, Xie'er now 17 years old and given free reign over the scorpions and Gu xiang 9.

Number Five Fic Recs

I have spent days reading Five fics since season 2 aired, so I decided that I might as well start jotting them all down for anyone’s interested. It’s a long list, here we go xD

Completed

1. Blood and Steel by @e-vasong, T, 6900 words

Diego gets shot. Five is evasive. There is a bit of an emotional reckoning, and neither of them are even vaguely equipped for it.

2. Carry Him by ClaraCivry (Kat_Of_Dresden), not rated, 2422 words

`Five times Five's siblings carried him, took his weight.

Some hurt Five, some fluff, but mostly Hargreeves being worried and looking after him.

3. Small Changes by calypso42, T, 3509 words

“I need to ask you something.” He set down the large stack of books he was carrying beside him. Klaus glanced at a few of the titles - Consciousness in the Brain - Memory & the Role of the Hippocampus - Soul vs. Matter: A Comprehensive Look at the Origins of Sentience - and grimaced.

“Are you… having an existential crisis, or something? Because I am possibly the worst person you could go to for that.”

When Five goes to Klaus to ask him something about his powers, Klaus doesn’t think much of it. At least, until he realizes that what he thought was simple curiosity was actually deeper than that, leading to a revelation about Five himself.

4. Strike A Violent Pose by @ford-ye-fiji, T, 1268 words

And here he was, limping along with a twisted ankle, going to save his siblings from certain doom yet again.

5. You are not alone by my_monster_are_real, T, 4259 words

Five doesn't like to be taken care of, but Allison doesn't care.

6. They Could Care Less (as long as someone’ll bleed) by @ford-ye-fiji, M, 2835 words

Number Five is cornered once again by commission agents, but this time with his family.

Diego and Klaus learn something about their littlest-oldest brother.

7. Didn’t Give Me Time to Say Goodbye by rookflight, Gen, 1769 words

After dealing with the second apocalypse, Five takes time to think about everything that’s happened. Klaus seizes the opportunity for some quality sibling bonding.

8. With Two Arms by karcheri, T, 3345 words

What it comes down to, really, is that Five had been too eager for results. Once it became clear to him that there was a connection between his powers and his energy level the obvious course of action, as he saw it, was to test this information. The hypothesis was this: higher energy levels = stronger powers and the easiest way to get more energy is to eat more. Pretty simple stuff. Too simple.

or Five times that Five starves himself and one time that he gets called out on it.

9. Number Five The Monster Under The Bed by Kraeyola, T, 5460 words

It's easy to forget sometimes when you look at Five; small lanky body, little boy-scout shorts, and a perfectly pristine uniform. A smooth youthful face that's always wearing a too-serious expression for someone (supposedly) so young. Not that the siblings don't respect Five as an equal, it's just... well. It's hard to take him so seriously. Especially when he gets mad and makes such an adorable pouty face.

It's why they find it so difficult to deal with reconciling Five to the boy they (thought they) knew, to the boy they're seeing standing right in front of them. But you can't really blame them, can you?

After all, it's hard to believe things without witnessing them first hand.

There is a monster under the bed and it's in the shape of a thirteen-year-old boy.

10. Nonlinear theory for dummies by Inkjade, Gen, 4786 words

After forty-five years of fighting, it's kind of hard to know how to stop.

11. Vital Signs by aye_of_newt, M, 3524 words

Sometimes, it's difficult for Klaus to tell if someone is alive or dead.

When Five shows up, covered in blood after killing the Board, Klaus panics.

12. Not with me by Claracivry (Kat_Of_Dresden) Gen, 5681 words

They never asked if any of that blood was his.

Five is bleeding, and he is also giving up.

AU to 2X07, with hurt Five because after all that boy has been through...

13. Nothing’s Going on (and that’s the problem) by briegretful, T, 5231 words

(Directly after the season 2 ending, except everything's normal and everyone's still around) He did it. Five saved his family. They landed in 2019 and everything, somehow, worked out.

He's not sure how to deal with that.

Five struggles to deal with not having an apocalypse to stop, and his family tries to help him.

14. A New Life by BirdInTheCave, T, 3884 words

Allison had convinced Ray to come back to 2019 with her and her family and after a month of being cooped up in the house with the other Hargreeves plus their own unconventional guests, Ray suggests they spend some time alone. He's still struggling to fully comprehend the new world he's stepped into but he's determined that with Allison at his side he can get used to anything. Allison can't find a reason to say no. She should have said no.

Luckily for her, Five will always be there for his family, now that he's back.

15. Side Effects May Vary by CivilBores, T, 6565 words

Allison crosses her arms. “Five,” she says firmly, “when was the last time you slept?”

“I don’t know,” Five says honestly. At Allison’s expression, he quickly adds, “But it doesn’t matter. I don’t know what it’ll take for all of you pea-brained idiots to realize that.”

“We may not be as intelligent as you, Five,” Allison says, “but at least all of us are smart enough to know how to take care of ourselves.”

A week after the world is saved, Five convinces himself that he is still experiencing lingering side effects of paradox psychosis. His family has something to say about that.

16. The Walls Kept Tumbling Down by @ingu, T, 64888 words, 8 chapters

It started small.

There was a nagging ache in his chest, phantom pain from where the bullets had pierced his flesh, in the overwritten timeline that never will be.

(the one where rewinding time doesn't miraculously resolve mortal gunshot wounds)

17. Stay by maddienole, T, 6027 words

Five had saved his life once, many months ago. Maybe it was time for Klaus to return the favor.

18. Growing Pains by kakashi_mole, Not rated, 10520 words, Fiveya (personal fave, angst too much)

Number Five remembers his first kiss

Notes:

Takes place after Season Two. A Five-centric fic. Some teenagers get growing pains, some don’t, but the last “cycles” of pain usually occur around age 13.

Five finally gets the breakdown he deserves

20. Sorrows Like Thunder Clouds by Emotionally_Detached (Yeah_Toast), T, 6953 words

He makes it. He time travels and makes it through another apocalypse.

He makes it, but his siblings don't.His siblings don't make it, except he's in his own childhood and they're still here, alive and thirteen and he can fix things.

A slight re-telling of the barn scene. Five manages to save his siblings, but at what cost?

In which the author takes a throw-away line in season 2 and runs with it.

2. And We All Turn To Ash by @golden-redhead, Gen, Chapters 1/?

Seconds, not decades.

The blue glow pulsed between his fingers and he pulled at the familiarity of the feeling, pulling until time and space bent under his touch, parting as he struggled to squeeze himself through just enough to jump and change the course of history.

The energy, familiar but somehow different, courses through his body and then he moves, for a few precious seconds existing within the time and yet outside of it.

a.k.a. Five is so, so close to getting them back home and making things right. And then he isn't.

3. Tangled in The Hanging Tree by TiredPigeon (TwistedSkys), T, Chapters 2/?

The timeline is still messed up, obviously. There is still so much work to do, still so much to fix. His siblings have questions and concerns, and they want answers.

Five just wants his nose to stop bleeding.

(Post-season 2, but I have no plans to speculate on season 3, so consider this fluff.)

Five is tired, his family is starting to notice.

The Professor And I Season 2 (pt. 14)

Intro: Hello, lovelies!! I hope you guys are having a good day/night!! It seems I’m in the writing mood, three stories in four days? That’s a new record for me XD, anyways I hope you guys enjoy!! :)

Note: Everything gets explained, Y/N is even more confused knowing the answers, Alex is pissed, plans start to get made, the end is drawing near.

“What do you mean my dad’s in danger?” You asked, walking back over to her and watching as she sighed “I’ll explain everything, just not here” Lara, no Vikander, no… You didn’t know anymore said, looking at you and pulling her hood up when it started to sprinkle “Fine, come with me” you said, turning on your heel and heading off with Lara jogging slightly to catch up with you.

After a bit, you both made it back to Maggie’s place and you quickly shut the door behind the two of you, seeing a note on the coffee table Alex came by and I wasn’t sure when you’d be back I went to “help” her look for you, you owe me big time ~ Maggie “I know I do” you muttered to yourself, stuffing the note in your pocket before struggling to get out of your hoodie “Don’t touch me” you snapped when you felt Lara trying to help you out of the hoodie “I’m sorry” she said softly, pulling away and crossing her arms as you finally managed to free yourself from the hoodie, leading her to the spare room you were borrowing.

“Talk” you said, taking your backpack and setting it on your bed as Lara went to awkwardly sit on your desk chair “Where would you like me to start?” She asked, knowing you probably wanted a lot of answers “Start with the fact that me and my dad are in danger” you said, looking at her as you sat down on your bed, going to cross your arms before letting your arm drop to your lap, having momentarily forgotten about your missing arm, you still weren’t fully used to the fact that it was gone.

Lara nodded and took a deep breath as she thought back on everything she knew “Do you know where your father comes from?” She asked, watching as you shook your head “No, he just said that he came from New York, foster home” you said, knowing your dads’ parents had adopted him when he was around the age of six “That’s partially true… Your father was the heir to the throne of the hidden city in Paititi, he was hidden away when Trinity infiltrated its way in years ago… He’s needed for a sacrifice to start a whole new world… Dominguez’s new world” she said, seeming to make you even more confused the more she explained.

“Why do they need my dad’s blood? Doesn’t he have siblings?” You asked, looking at her and watching as she sighed and shook her head “His brother died a few years back and the queen Unuratu hid away their son, so they only know the location of your father” she said, knowing that Dominguez had found your father after seeing an article with him in it, promoting his business “So they need him as a sacrifice? What if they can’t find him?” “They’ll come after you, they already got a taste of it with your arm… It provided them enough blood to find the artifact, now they need more to start over” Lara said, looking at you and watching as you furrowed your brows as you tried to comprehend everything.

“Okay and where do you come in with all of this? And why did you ask Lena?” You asked, having so many questions but also knowing you had very little time for it “I “joined” in about a year ago, they got my father killed… I wanted revenge” Lara said, looking at you and obviously not going to go any further with that “I wanted Lena so I’d have someone on my side, plus I knew you two were together so I had hoped she would help protect you…Stuff happened and she said no before I could explain” she said, looking at you and watching as you wiped some sweat off of your forehead, struggling to comprehend all of this “What is this new world that Dominguez wants?” You asked, scared of the answer since he could go with so many different things.

Lara sighed and looked down at her hands “His intentions are pure… Dominguez is one of your fathers siblings, he wants to protect Paititi, but doing so has the possibility of destroying the world with it… We have to stop him” “We? I don’t remember agreeing to team up with you, I wanted answers and I got those answers, I don’t trust you anymore!” You snapped, glaring at her and watching as she looked at you with a guilty expression “I know, I destroyed any form of trust and relationship that we had or could’ve had, but please I need your help to end this” she begged, looking at you with a pleading look… You wanted to stop Dominguez, you had from the beginning and now was your chance, but trusting Lara? You weren’t sure “Fine, but after this, I don’t want to speak to you ever again” you said, watching as she nodded sadly “Of course, thank you”.

After Lara left, you took the time to think everything over, a lot had happened over the past few days and you had little time to think it all over, hearing the front door open and not even thinking when you left the spare room “Maggie, you won’t believe-Alex…” You said, freezing when you saw Alex look at you, many emotions going through her eyes before anger took over “You knew?!” Alex asked through gritted teeth, glaring at Maggie who took a step back and held her hands up in surrender “They needed help, so I helped… I was going to tell you-“ Maggie said, stopping herself when Alex seemed to get angrier with every word before turning her anger towards you “Are you insane?! You just lost an arm and you decide to escape the hospital?! What the hell were you thinking!?” Alex shouted, causing you to wince.

“Alex, let me explain” you said, trying to calm her down enough to where she would actually listen as you explained yourself, watching as she took a deep breath to calm herself before she looked at you “Explain” she said, crossing her arms as you explained everything, even what Lara had told you not that long ago “She was in on it?” Alex asked, looking at you and just trying to wrap her mind around everything you just told her “Yeah… Now both my dad and I are in danger, we need to stop them” “And you think teaming up with Lara will help with that?” Alex seethed, looking at you and just upset with Lara since it almost got you killed “She’s our only hope, Alex… As much as I hate to say it, she’s our only hope” you said, looking at her and hoping she would understand “Okay… What do we do?”

lifes been weird and sad , got so much stuff i wanna say dont even know if thats the right subred to but here goes.i m 18 , from Greece , first year in Uni and life is not the way i want it to bei live on my own , rent is being paid by mom and her husband , month pocket money given by dad and by my part time jobat some point in high school i understood that our school years were our most carefree years , tho only now do i really understand itman this post is gonna cramp my fingers shouldve used the pcused to hang out a lot till 2nd year of high school then in 3rd year cause of me studying more i was hanging out less , used to have around 4groups of ppl to hang around then only one , cliche but i wasnt anyone special in school , gotta mention i went to a music middle-high school , only highlights i remember are in 2th-3rd grade trading blows with a girl (think she was 5th grade) ,3rd grade kissing a girl in her cheek then running away from the boy-horde coming after me , 4th grade trading blows with a 6th grader ,6th grade punching a guy for calling names my little sis (we good now see him out we talk he a nice dud) , 9th grade a girl i had a chance with but fucked it up big time , 9th grade breaking a cello almost getting expelled ,12th grade playing bass at a concert in Thessaloniki with a music group of my schooldidnt really have many close friends but there were some from school and other places you can call closer friends , but now even with them i ve started to fade away which i cannot bear but i m the type of giving up and not trying until i m lategot laboratory this morning and this is gonna take a while hope i can get some sleepfeels weird using reddit to express my thoughts i even find it a bit cringy talking to myself but oh welli wanted to visit a physiatrist because i ve been so mentally tired that i think i might have crippling sadness xD but i tried to arrange that back in July-August pre my 18th bday so she said a parent was required to be present so i just kept all the stuff to myselfi was learning classic guitar from 1st grade to 8th still play to this day , in music school i kinda learned h2p electric but didnt practice enough to be able to play good , also know some pianobeen listening to post rock and mostly fate music these past 10 monthssucker for good anime tho i ve been out of it lately havent even finished my summer ones , oregairu has a nice ending from what i got spoiled fromanyway thing is i am sad most of the time , i try not to show it cause i like the stereotype of being the strong guy that everyone can depend on and almost never see being emotional and also like the cool tempered guy type , tho lately i ve been craving a lot of attention that i drop the act of the calm n cool sometimesthings with my parents didnt go to well these past years , only now i can say that we ve finally kinda calmed down , mom and dad started falling out of it around 8th grade cause lots of fighting , big sis kindof took the role of mother while on her teen years , feels like she had it much worse than me10th grade sis leaves home to go elsewhere to start studies for uni , i m left with ma and lil sis back homethen i understand that i have to be there for my little sis which also got in my school that year (3kids-3years difference each) so i tried to assume the role of the big brother but she was closer to her older sister than me , i was closer to my older sister as well , feels like i was doing my lil sis wrong but i cpould relate more to big sis and could chat with her more about stufflil sis didnt open up to me a lot even to this day , she has been a lot more comfortable with me through the years i think cause she told me something important recently , kinda feelsbadman tho cause i wanted to be closer to her and i kinda tried but i think not hard enough cause she didnt seem to get any closer , cried once about it in front of my mother which was the absoluteliest worst cause i didnt want her to see me being fragile jesustho even now that i m not home i talk to her play some among us tried making her start xenoverse 2 that didnt go farhave some friends from school , we would only go all together at internet cafes , but mostly 4 of em would go out togetherin my school i had some friends from scouts tooi have an insta , used to post "cool" pics kinda stopped cause i like looking cool in front of others but i havent been in the mood to try in around a year nowused to be in some conservatory guitar groups with some other kids there , with one girl from there i used to be quite in touch until recently that i stopped seeing her for some reasons maybe i ll explain l8rwe had fun and i really mean it , we used to go on trips to play songs on different cities and stages , our group became kinda known the 2-3 good active years we were active , it still is but these years were the originals , now there are other peoplefucking christ its 2:27started playing in that group with the originals in 2017 till 2019 , we were kids from different ages going from 6th to 10th graders but i didnt understand the different in our ages until recently that i found one of the guys from the group in my cityanother closer friend is a guy from my school , met him in grade 7 still talk to him , used to sit together most of the years pretty neat guy , peculiar character but really interesting kind smart and hard workingman why couldnt my teen years be like shirou from fsn that would be awesomehad entrance exams 4-5 months ago , didnt really go as planned , shooted for Corfu didnt get in cause rather than 15 i got 10 in my last exam so i m still in my city , tho i live alone and go to my local uni insteadJuly 2019 i moved out of my old house moved in with ma and her husband with my sis , stayed there till september then till june-july 2020 i was living with my fathertbh i decided to write this post after watching a vid of Korone talking about Okayu thinking that i ve never been in an actual relationship and that i eould want to experience that but dont know where to start from , losing weight ? becoming outgoing again ? learn how to talk to girls ?i started watching anime back in 2015 on my 3ds i remember watching dubbed Inazuma Elevensince like 2 weeks ago i reached 201 anime completedok i ll stop here for tonight cause i got online uni classes tmrw i keep stimestamps for whenever i finally post this -Tuesday 3/11/2020 02:41used to be around 85-90kg in 12th grade , put on around 20-28 kilos since March 2020 , managed to lose 8-10 kilos in the summer but i m still around 30kilos up from the normal amount based on my height , got a subscription to a gym jan2019 but only managed to get into it for a short period on spring 2019 then autumn 2019 then lost motivation and let go , since March2020 i ve been doing some weights at home , tho when i look at myself in the mirror it doesnt really change how bad i feel about my body , i think my old motivation used to be a girl i used to have a crush on but not surethings with my parents werent all that great and i was mentally better when i would talk with them , they are openminded af and supportive too but puberty makes you see stuff differently like everyone is against you like the world is against you (last one might be true dunno yet) , living on my own now seems to be a bit better but as our Greek ancestors used to say theres no good without bad and the bad in this scenario is that its lonely as fuck , having lived for 18 years with my family it really hits a weird spot , everything feels lonelier now with the virus spreading around not being able to see others as much as we used to , uni doesnt feel nice , many people dont pay attention and its like the second half of 12th grade all over againgot my monthly money 4days ago , went from 200 to 9.28 quickly , when i have money i spend when i dont i m stingy , mostly like to build computers , watch lots of Linus , Paul , Kyle , Jay etc. most of my money goes to buying stuff about computers food , used to give lots of money to internet cafes when i used to hang out with the guys from school , not anymorewith the start of uni we all met new friends even i but i still feel like i am drifting apart day by day , stopped talking to my old girl friend cause i was kinda done with her attitude , called me some names i didnt appreciate because i put up with her attitude , most of the time in her own world , only would really pay attention and try to change herself when it was something she cared about , one of them wasnt her character , but to give the goods of her she was a good friend dont know if i can say she still is a friend or just someone i know , she helped me even with the girl i had a crush on , was really fun on trips with the guitar group , all in all a fun person , thing is i stopped texting her and telling her to go out cause it was 80% me trying and the other 20% her and i think that proved right when i stopped talking to her cause i thought she will see that i m not talking to her she ll think somethings wrong she ll message me to go out and have fun , send me a happy bday message posted some pics of me , didnt send me anything else after , stopped talking to her around the start of October , if i hadnt asked her something about her uni and if it wasnt my bday i dont think we wouldve talked in all of october . last saturday i was working in the area she lives in my city decided to call her sometimes didnt answer tried to suprise her and see how she is by going to her house , noone answered maybe they were on a trip idk , but it feels weird man , in the first half of the year me and a common friend of her and me went out one night , ended up being the bad guy to make her understand that she did something wrong that night , after she left i was left with our common friend talked about stuff and mostly her and i expressed myself , i knew that coming summer me and her would end up at different places so i wanted to tell her all the wrongs with her so that she could finally understand what i ve been putting up against and make her understand that she HAS to pay attention to people around her and that she will meet new people and that she ll have to be careful about her character , used to have a bit of crush on her back in 7th grade , can kinda understand why that went . On the other hand i didnt want to part ways with her with our last words being me ranting , one thing brought the other and she wont be going to her uni's city until early 2021 so i managed to go out with her some more in the summer and september . kinda feels bad to see that almost noone remembered my bday cause i remember in cram school when someone had their bday they would get a fucking cake , dont mistake me i got one , from my ma my two sisters and my moms husband , thing is i wanted to have something happen with friends , nothing happend , around 4 people remembered my bday and the others just send me some happy bday messages after seeing posts from the girl i m talking about .also heres a good song to listen to while reading stuff on reddit Sorrow from FSN by MN64 cant post links from what i understandgonna stop here for now might edit later -Tuesday 3/11/2020 15:15thing is reddit is not the right place to get help and i need a friend but it seems i cant get any from my friends , even my other friend the guy i used to sit with in all middle-high school he has drifted apart , talking more with other of his friends doing other stuff etc , that one time i needed to talk to him he said i ll call you in a while , waitied 1 and a half hour then asked him why he didnt call he said he forgot (i think) , feelsbadmananyway i dont think i m gonna keep editing this i ranted enough , gonna leave the post up for a day or so in case anyone wants to add anything then taking it down -Tuesday 3/11/2020 23:58

5. Name a movie that makes you genuinely laugh.

i swear on my life the Mortal Kombat movie from 1995 is a national treasure, it is SUCH a solid movie and has so many funny moments. Robin Shou makes such a 🥺🥺 Liu Kang, and jesus fuck he can be so savage when the script calls for it!! there’s one part where he takes Johnny Cage’s luggage and straight up fucking chucks it into the ocean + then bullies him about it later! honestly the Ballad of Johnny Cage and His Luggage is one of my favorite parts from the movie <3 if you haven’t seen it + you like cheesy, old school movies, i really recommend it!!!

11. Describe the memory of the last time you felt true happiness.

So I can’t remember the last time I did, bc my memory is horrifically terrible + probably getting worse as time goes on?? but i will tell you about one of the more recent times I remember! :D There is one crucial expository note for this memory- my brother-in-law makes THE best chili in the entire world. my brother and I were trying to recreate it because it’s such a simple but delicious + filling meal- I think this was our first time trying to create it? and it was SO chaotic, the tomato sauce and stuff kept popping and burning me and we weren’t 100% certain that we’d gathered the right ratios for the ingredients and it was just. madness lmao. Chance’s chili is one that you leave alone for multiple hours at a time (I think this is the case for all chili but i don’t cook often enough to know ;__;), and we were kinda 👀👀👀 because we weren’t sure it’d turn out right? But it did!!!! I vividly remember when it was finished and we taste-tested it + went oOOH FUCK! it wasn’t quite the same as chance’s but ohhh my god it was so good 🥰🥰🥰 but yeah!! we ate it all up and I think this was around the time I started my playthrough of Esteban for Dragon Age 2? which was one of my favorite playthroughs for the entire franchise... he’s just a simple ig beard model mage ;w; i wanted to show you what he looked like in this post but the formatting went wonky so ig i’ll just post him separately?? it’s 1000% in-character for him to infiltrate my jojo blog 😔

12. Name a song that makes you feel ethereal.

hm...I’d say it’s between Forget About or Feet of Clay! They’re both such light and tenderhearted songs, and when I listen to them I feel like I’m in an apartment kitchen slow-dancing with a love, and it’s so dark except for the slowly rising sun. I don’t know if that feeling could be described as ethereal? but it’s close enough for me

17. What is something you own that is important to you? What makes it so important?

I have a small collection of scripts from the shows I’ve been in, and two of the most important ones are from the plays my high school put on during my sophomore and junior years, The Nit-Wits and The Musical Comedy Murders of 1940, respectively! The Nit-Wits has a ton of sentimental value to me because it was the last show I genuinely acted in, and it was a show we had to pull together in 2 or 3 weeks!! We were originally going to do a murder mystery play for the fall, but none of the cast was feeling it and it just wasn’t going to come to life in time (honestly this speaks volumes for how much we weren’t vibing with it, because all of our shows came together at like.. the final dress rehearsals if not opening night lmao). I vividly remember we took a vote during rehearsals about whether or not to switch the show, and then we did and it was SO fun + chaotic!! My character was one of the only regular characters in the show, but I think everyone else had a lot of fun acting as actors who were hired to be maniacal, and that made acting off of them so fun! I remember there was also a night my friend Adonis almost tore the entire set down because he ran through a door and tripped over a set brace in his haste!! The Nit-Wits is hugely important because it was a really fresh acting experience for me, and again, my last time genuinely on the stage and not behind the scenes!

MCM is important to me because it was the first play I ever stage managed! I’d stage managed our musical the spring prior, but that was a huge undertaking and involved many different people and moving parts. Stage managing a play, at least at my high school, was a calmer and more intimate experience, and one I really enjoyed! Another huge reason I treasure MCM’s script is because it is one of the last shows I had with my friend I told you about- he was a senior. I have little notes and doodles from the cast and crew scattered throughout my book for this show, and I remember being so irritated by this because it meant I was losing space for stage directions, cues, and notes. Now, I’m super grateful to have these scribbles- it’s one of the only things I have left of him.

On that note, relating to him, MCM is also the show which birthed my most horrific theater horror story!! During one of the performances, I guess he forgot his line?? idk. But he ended up jumping six pages ahead of where the current scene was (I knew this bc I was following along in my book backstage + was frantically trying to figure out where he’d gone), which threw the entire cast, who were all tragically onstage, way off-track. This resulted in the most frightening game of script ping-pong I’ve ever seen: he’d skipped six pages ahead, so Adonis ended up saying a line from two pages after the six-page skip, and somehow someone else went!! oh I have a response to that line! And then said something like 9 pages back! I think the lead actress tried to ground everyone back to the lines they were supposed to be saying, but she ended up just saying a lot of their lines? And one of those lines that was supposed to be said by someone else was supposed to cue a black-out that someone got murdered in, but my lighting techie was SO fucking lost (we were both huddled over the script next to the breaker trying to figure out WHERE the hell we were! i think i had a flashlight in my mouth so I could flip through the book with both hands and thus faster??), so ofc the lights stayed up! I remember getting through this scene being the most painstaking endeavor of my entire life, but thankfully intermission was right after it! We actually extended intermission because the cast needed a hot second to fuckign RESET for Act 2 bc sweet jesus that was so bizarre...Needless to say, after that show we never messed that scene up again + everyone who acted in the show became super anal about knowing their lines as the years went on. The Six Page Skip became a legendary part of our hs theater Canon (like biblical canon ;w; although I don’t think anyone’s talked about it since my class graduated) alongside the times one of our ensemble dudes had to break through the roof of the girl’s dressing room to retrieve the keys to the theater + i got stuck on stage!

20. What’s the sweetest thing someone has done for you?

I really had to wrack my brain to answer this one, as I’m generally not the person people do things for, you know? This answer goes wayyy back, to 8th grade :O but so! there is mild exposition for this- when I started middle school, I lived in North Carolina, but we moved to Florida right before 7th grade bc my grandma is ill. We lived with my uncle while we were looking for a house, so I went to the local middle school bc why wouldn’t I? but in November, we finally found a house + my mom was like....So... are you going to switch schools or...I’d struck up some really solid friendships in this time, so i was like Mom I’d Rather Die OAO. So, we struck up a deal that I’d get to stay at that school on a zone waiver + that she’d drive me to school everyday. Sometime closer to the end of eighth grade she was like, yeah so.. I can’t do this for high school, it’s too much gas- which was valid! I was really sad about it, but I sucked it up.

Anyhow, fast forward to the last day of eighth grade, which was perhaps the saddest day I’d lived up until that point, mostly bc I knew I was probably never going to see all my friends again. My best friend, who I was like hardcore v close to + the person I shared all my wacky AUs and OC’s and headcanons with, was waiting with me for my mom to come pick me up, and then!!! When my mom pulled into the school she suddenly whipped out this lengthy letter she’d written to me about how much she enjoyed my friendship and how grateful she was that we were able to have lunch together (lunch was.. tragically ;__; the only time we really saw each other that year), and that she would never forget me! And she’d drawn me a ton of fanart from all the things I was obsessed with back then!! it was so much so fast, but then my mom was yelling at me to get in the car and I had to go :(

We kept in touch through email freshman year + fake-dated bc a senior was stalking me? ;J; and then we went to Megacon together! but I became really heavily involved in choir and theater after that, and we just kind of drifted apart :( we do follow each other on ig tho! It’s insane to think about her and that letter because on GOD ruth, that was a thinly veiled love letter and I never like... wrote her anything back that was as worthy as what she wrote me. But, she’s doing really well in uni now, so I guess it’s all okay? idk! ; o ;

23. What’s your zodiac sign? Do you think you fit the general characteristics of that sign?

I’m a Cancer!! and also a metal dragon by the Chinese Zodiac, which I’ve always thought was pretty sick! :3 I am 10000% your stereotypical Cancer, super emotional and introspective + often prone to tears ;u; My mom always said that dragons are steadfast and loyal people, and I think this also applies to me, to a fault. I checked around some websites to see what characteristics were often applied to metal dragons specifically, and it seems they are pretty strong-willed, ambitious, and generous? I don’t know if you could call me strong-willed or ambitious, but it’s all good ig.

25. What’s a song that gives off good vibes anytime you listen to it?

Ohh man, I went in on this question for Shannon, but bc I was digging around my library for Jules, I actually found an old fave! This song is from one of my all-time favorite musicals, Once on This Island- it’s The Human Heart! This song is so sweet, and god between the writing for the orchestra + the writing for the ensemble, this song is a straight masterpiece <3 I love love love the line, “Through your love you’ll live forever”, and although I am Hardcore Terrified of getting a tattoo, I really want that line tattooed on my body. if you have time, I recommend giving Once on This Island a listen!! I’ve never heard a show that uses its instruments and singers the way OoTI does (and holy FUCK it is so breathtaking live!!! I got to see it on Broadway and bro.... 🥺🥺 it was transcendental..)

[Translation] StarMyu Season 2 Vol. 4 Special Drama Track 2 - “Hachiya Sou”

Oh~ I forgot I had this lying around and I said I’d be posting it so, here it is finally~! I love this boy so much and I hope to see more of him in season 3 of the anime XD

HACHIYA: My first meeting with Ageha was so vivid.

HACHIYA: After I got accepted to the specialized Vocal Course, I got to see a lot of wonderful people like Tatsumi-kun, Sawatari-kun, and Tsukigami-kun but, being able to do the same steps as them, sing the same melodies they do made me feel very special for the first time in my life!

HACHIYA: If I’m with him, I know I can go anywhere. I felt my heart become one with my teammates’ hearts.

HACHIYA: That’s what we all thought. We would treasure and protect our Ageha.

HACHIYA: That we’ll support him so that he could always be his best.

HACHIYA: But, how would we be able to do that…

HACHIYA: Back then, I wouldn’t have known the answer.

HACHIYA: This is a story from before we were second years in Ayanagi Academy. A story from the previous spring from before Ageha and I became friends.

HACHIYA: I’m back.

HACHIYA: Ageha, do you want something to drink?

AGEHA: Don’t need any.

HACHIYA: Ah… U-um… I-it’s such a coincidence that we’re sharing the same room and are on the same team…

HACHIYA: I’m happy that we both got into a Star Team, too!

(Ageha ignores Hachiya and continues reading)

HACHIYA: Ah… U-um… You’re always reading that pamphlet, huh?

HACHIYA: Is it something important?

HACHIYA: That’s the pamphlet for the graduation performance, isn’t it?

HACHIYA: “Shadow & Lights” I remember you mentioning going to its performance this year.

HACHIYA: I hear that you’re planning to audition for Alexis’s Shadow in next year’s “Shadow & Lights”, too!

HACHIYA: It’s so amazing that you already have a dream you’re aiming for! I’m sure you can do it! You definitely wi—

AGEHA: So noisy. Don’t bother me.

HACHIYA: I’m so sorry…

(Ageha continues to read)

HACHIYA: But, um… Aren’t we teammates?

HACHIYA: Aren’t we both aiming to be in the Musical Department? Shouldn’t we build a friendship for that? We’ve already decided that we’ll follow you.

HACHIYA: That’s why… I want to know what you like… Like, your favourite things or…

HACHIYA: What kind of musical actor you want to become, anything. I’m sure everyone else also wants to—

(Ageha puts the pamphlet down)

HACHIYA: …!

AGEHA: Don’t need. I’m not interested in any of you.

HACHIYA: Eh…?

AGEHA: I don’t need things like teammates and friends.

AGEHA: They’re just a bother.

HACHIYA: E-eh, but… It would be bad if you were alone.

AGEHA: That’s why, I’ll bear with it. I have no choice anyway.

HACHIYA: That’s not good… If you say that, your teammates won’t follow you…

AGEHA: I don’t need them anyway.

HACHIYA: Eh?

AGEHA: You don’t have to follow me either.

AGEHA: Even if everyone hates me, I’m not really interested.

HACHIYA: A-Ageha…?

AGEHA: I just have to be brilliant. Even if I’m alone.

AGEHA: Right?

(Ageha leaves and closes the door)

HACHIYA: N-no way…

(Hachiya pouring some water)

HACHIYA: (takes a sip) (sighs) It’s already this late… I already finished eating but… Ageha’s in the room and it’s kind of difficult to go back…

HACHIYA: I guess I’m left with no choice but to wait here until Ageha goes to sleep…

(Hachiya trips and spills the water)

HACHIYA: Ah… ow, ow… I did it again… I’m drenched in water…

EIGO: Excuse me! I heard a loud sound. Are you okay?

HACHIYA: A-ah, yes I’m okay! Oh?

EIGO: Oh my, Hachiya-kun!

HACHIYA: Sawatari-kun!

(Eigo uses a hair dryer on Hachiya)

EIGO: There, it seems like your hair and clothes are dry now.

HACHIYA: I’m so sorry. Ah, I’ll return the hair dryer for you.

EIGO: Yes, please.

HACHIYA: Um, what are you doing in the 2nd Dorm, Sawatari-kun? Weren’t you in the 1st Dorm?

EIGO: One of my classmates in Class C is in this dorm. We were just discussing a bit on tomorrow’s agenda for homeroom.

HACHIYA: Are you the class representative this year, too?

EIGO: I was simply nominated by most of my classmates since we were in middle school together. I accepted because of the way things were going.

HACHIYA: You’re very qualified! Sawatari-kun’s a very reliable person!

EIGO: Thank you very much.

HACHIYA: Ah, how is Tatsumi-kun doing? I haven’t seen him since he helped me fix my number during the newcomer’s auditions.

HACHIYA: It’s amazing that both of you are Star of Stars! As I expected.

HACHIYA: Though, Tsukigami-kun’s was a bit… unexpected.

EIGO: (smiles) Aren’t you in a Star Team, too, Hachiya-kun? I’m very happy for you as your former classmate.

HACHIYA: Ah, th-that’s… (chuckles nervously) There’s still so much that I have to work on.

EIGO: Hm? Is there something that’s troubling you?

HACHIYA: Um… You’re always together with Tatsumi-kun, aren’t you?

HACHIYA: You’re his knight who’s always ready to support and protect him, right?

EIGO: Eh? Ah, no—That’s only what people call me—

HACHIYA: Please tell me how you managed to do that!

EIGO: Ah… Pardon…?

EIGO: I see… It’s about Ageha Riku-kun, huh?

EIGO: If I remember correctly, he was the one who was transferred from a regular class to a music class in middle school, wasn’t he?

EIGO: I do remember feeling a lot of enthusiasm from him but… He seems like quite the difficult person, huh?

HACHIYA: Ageha is a very talented and wonderful person but… He’s a little… rather, quite the strange person.

HACHIYA: Ageha is Team Yuzuriha’s top star! It won’t do if I can’t be able to support him.

HACHIYA: But… I feel like he doesn’t even want to look in my direction… It’s a little bit sad…

EIGO: Hm…

NANJO: I think that it’s impossible to actually understand that guy~

EIGO/HACHIYA: ?!

NANJO: Sorry for eavesdropping. I was on the way back to my room but I heard an interesting conversation.

EIGO/HACHIYA: Nanjo-kun?!

NANJO: Hello, Princess Tatsumi’s Knight~ Is this the first time we’ve talked properly?

EIGO: Indeed it is. Of course, I know you by face.

NANJO: Me, too. You were famous back in middle school after all.

NANJO: Um, you are…?

HACHIYA: Ah, I’m Hachiya Sou. I’ve always admired your work when you were the student council vice-president!

EIGO: Hachiya-kun is in the same special music course like I am.

NANJO: Oh~ So he’s amazing? Does that mean you’re in a Star Team, too?

HACHIYA: Yes, I’m in Team Yuzuriha.

NANJO: Ah, I see now~ That’s why you were talking about Ageha, weren’t you?

EIGO: Nanjo-kun, do you know Ageha?

NANJO: I was in the same class as him before. From first year maybe?

EIGO: That’s exactly what we’re troubled about right now.

NANJO: No need to be troubled about it. Just give up.

NANJO: That guy’s out of this world, you know? There’s no way he can communicate with other people.

NANJO: He hated me a lot during middle school, too.

HACHIYA: Eh?

EIGO: Is that so?

NANJO: To me, it’s sort of a thrill but I don’t really care about him. Can’t say for sure about Ageha sharing the same dorm as me though. Well, I guess he can just ignore me or something~

EIGO: You’re pretty savage, aren’t you…?

HACHIYA: He hates you…? Even so…

AGEHA: (from Hachiya’s memory) I’m not interested in any of you.

HACHIYA: (sighs) And here I thought you would be more respected…

NANJO: Hmm… Want to do a simulation?

EIGO/HACHIYA: Eh…?

HACHIYA: What kind of simulation?

NANJO: Something like this…

[10:08]

(they begin to imagine a situation)

REN: Hey Ageha, you bastard. You just bumped into me, didn’t you?! Guilty!

NANJO: Oh~ You got caught by someone troublesome, Ageha~

NANJO: Ren has gotten into an agency, you know? If there’s a single scratch on him, you’d have to answer to the scary people at the top~

NANJO: By the way, I think it’d be wise to go pay for his doctor right now.

AGEHA: (shrieks in such a forced way)

HACHIYA: Please stop!

NANJO/REN: Hachiya!?

HACHIYA: You’ve got some guts picking on my important friend! Take this!

(Hachiya punches Ren)

NANJO: (with a bored tone and fake concern) Ren!

REN: Tch…! That bastard Hachiya… So he was hiding his real strength all this time?!

NANJO: You can’t win against this, Ren. Just apologize to Hachiya and let it slide.

REN: Y-yes!!

HACHIYA: Please raise your head. I’ll forgive you today. But, I won’t forgive you if you bully Ageha again!

REN: This guy…! What a huge heart he has!

NANJO: Ageha, there’s no other teammate who’s this kind, you know? Trust in him and get along, okay~?

AGEHA: Yeah.

AGEHA: (to Hachiya) Thank you, my friend!

HACHIYA: Ageha!

(simulation ends)

NANJO: Or something like that~

HACHIYA: There’s no way it’ll go that smoothly!

EIGO: And I doubt that Kitahara-kun will play along without any complaints…

EIGO: Will that plan really be okay?

NANJO: That guy’s quite an actor, you know?

HACHIYA: Wait, the difficulty’s too high! Do you have any other ideas?

NANJO: Hm… No good, huh? How about this?

(they imagine another situation again)

HACHIYA: (with a smooth tone, like he’s hitting on someone) Ageha.

AGEHA: Ah…

HACHIYA: We need you. Without you, we won’t be able to enter the Musical Department.

AGEHA: …! Kabe-don…?

HACHIYA: Ageha… Please let me be of service.

AGEHA: Yes, please do.

(simulation ends)

HACHIYA: I don’t understand what’s going on!

EIGO: I also feel like it’s out of character for Hachiya-kun.

NANJO: No good? Hmm, then…

HACHIYA: Nanjo-kun, are you perhaps enjoying playing with my troubles?

NANJO: (laughs) Was it obvious?

HACHIYA: You really were?!

HACHIYA: (sighs) Is it really impossible?

HACHIYA: Can I really do well as Ageha’s teammate and roommate…?

HACHIYA: I’m losing confidence now…

EIGO: Hachiya-kun…

NANJO: Like I said, better give it up. He’s always been like that anyway.

NANJO: I’ve always thought that he was the type to do what he could on his own without relying on someone else.

HACHIYA: That… That may be so but… I’m Ageha’s ally.

EIGO/NANJO: Hm?

HACHIYA: No matter what Ageha thinks, my other teammates and I feel that way.

HACHIYA: We don’t just rely on him to get into the Musical Department, we really respect Ageha!

HACHIYA: I love Ageha that’s why… even though he says he hates us or that he’s not interested, we… We’ll support our top star and protect him.

HACHIYA: I mean… Ageha’s really amazing. He has his own goals and dreams and he’s doing his best to make them happen.

HACHIYA: I want to make it happen… If we could be of use to him, I’d like to make it happen.

HACHIYA: A-ah… I’m so sorry for raising my voice. (chuckles nervously)

NANJO: (chuckles) You’re kinda a strange guy, too, aren’t you?

HACHIYA: Eh?

NANJO: You say that you have no confidence and stuff. Even though we’re telling you to give it up, you’re still desperately trying.

NANJO: You’re kinda stubborn, huh?

HACHIYA: …

EIGO: (smiles) Indeed. It’s as Nanjo-kun says.

EIGO: “You don’t know unless you’ll try.” Aren’t those strong feelings for Ageha-kun enough answer for your worries?

HACHIYA: Sawatari-kun…

EIGO: Your life as teammates and roommates has only started. You have a lot of time.

EIGO: The more time you spend, the more it will grow stronger. I’m sure that your genuine feelings will reach him.

EIGO: The moment that he realizes your kindness might make your current situation a lot different.

HACHIYA: It’s only just begun… There’s still… I see!

HACHIYA: I have a lot of time, don’t I? It’s okay if I don’t give up, isn’t it?

HACHIYA: That was a story from the spring when Team Yuzuriha only started.

HACHIYA: And now, Ageha and I are second years!

[15:30]

HACHIYA: I’m so sorry for the intrusion.

TENGENJI: Hachiya?

EIGO: Oh my, good morning.

HACHIYA: Good morning, Sawatari-kun and Tengenji-kun. Are you having breakfast together?

TENGENJI: What’s up? Did you have something to do in this dorm?

HACHIYA: Ah, yes. Yesterday, Hoshitani-kun and Nayuki-kun let Ageha stay with them.

HACHIYA: They got the futon from our room so I thought I should help with bringing it back. I’m here to pick him up.

TENGENJI: Heh… He’s using you a lot, huh?

HACHIYA: I’m indebted to Hoshitani-kun for what he did during training camp and I think that Hoshitani-kun’s feelings managed to reach Ageha.

HACHIYA: Ageha’s really likable, I think.

TENGENJI: Likable? Him?!

EIGO: (chuckles) I think it’ll take a while before they arrive. Do you want to drink some tea while waiting?

HACHIYA: Yes, please. I’ll take you up on yo— (Hachiya hits the table)

EIGO: Are you okay?!

TENGENJI: Ah, geez…

HACHIYA: Ow…

AGEHA: What are you doing, Sou?

HACHIYA: Ageha! I came here to pick you up and just hit the table when Sawatari-kun I was about to sit down.

AGEHA: Klutz.

EIGO: Ageha-kun, is Hoshitani-kun and Nayuki-kun not with you?

AGEHA: They went to get breakfast. They said they’ll bring some snacks, too.

AGEHA: They said they saw some in the refrigerator?

TENGENJI: Snacks in the fridge?

AGEHA: Yeah. Sou, we’ll be eating over there for a while so please, go get my futon.

HACHIYA: Ah, yes.

TENGENJI: Just because he gets along with Hoshitani now doesn’t give him the right to be that impudent.

TENGENJI: You say something to him, too.

HACHIYA: Eh?

EIGO: (chuckles) Compared to when we were first years, you’ve really gotten along quite well.

EIGO: Though, there are quite a small amount of things that I dislike seeing.

TENGENJI: True.

HACHIYA: (chuckles) It’s alright. It’s just how our relationship is after my feelings have reached him.

TENGENJI: Huh?!

EIGO: (chuckles)

AGEHA: Yuta! Is that the snack?

TENGENJI: AH! It’s really…!

EIGO/HACHIYA: Hm?

TENGENJI: Hey, Hoshitani! That’s the one I received yesterday!

TENGENJI: You boor! Don’t think that this is something— (his voice fades into the background)

EIGO/HACHIYA: (chuckles)

HACHIYA: But sometimes, I admire those kinds of brazen people, too.

EIGO: That’s… Giving up on doing that is the correct choice, I think…

Japan ~ Summer 2018 #1 🎌🗻

Quick introduction: Hello my lovlies!! As most of you might already know, I went to Japan this summer. It was a rather spontaneous decision based on the fact that both Hikaru and Wakana had announced their solo lives. At that point I was suffering from a serious case of Kalafina withdrawal so I felt like I had no choice but to go. I just needed to see them. Also, it was my 30th birthday so I thought I would treat myself. You only turn 30 once, right? On a side note, the timing finally gave me the opportunity to do something I had wanted to do for a few years now. Climb Mount Fuji. o(〃＾▽＾〃)o So yeah, that’s the backstory of my trip. I stayed in Japan from July 30 till August 14 and pretty much my entire trip was dedicated to Kalafina Pilgrimage. Let me tell you this, it was by far the best summer vacation of my life, worth each and every penny! And believe me, there were a LOT of pennies involved XD

Notes: Once again this is coming pretty late but not as late as my previous travel report so that’s a good thing. It took some time to gather my thoughts and put them all into words. This report will be a bit different from the last one since I thought it would be nice to include some travel tips here and there. I guess you could see this as some sort of travel/Kala-guide. Many of my followers have never been to Japan so I guess some general info would be useful to make things easier for you if you ever decide to travel to Japan.

Please note that this is Part 1 of my report. The other parts will follow in the near future (hopefully).

Without further ado, let’s get to it 〈(•ˇ‿ˇ•)-→

July 29 (Sun) ~ July 30 (Mon)

My flight to Japan was scheduled for Sunday July 29. Finally a direct flight again. I HATE layovers with a passion. As always I couldn’t sleep on the plane so I watched all kinds of movies (Blade Runner 2049, The Greatest Showman, Love Simon, Red Sparrow and La La Land - I really don’t get the love for La La Land o.O). 11 hours later I landed at Narita Airport (8 am the next day JST). The second I stepped out of the plane and walked through that tube thingy that connects planes to the airport I thought I was gonna die, it felt like I had just opened an oven and a blast of heat and steam washed over me. To say it felt like a sauna is an understatement. Thank God the tube was rather short and I was soon insiden the airconditioned Narita Airport. I took my time there since I knew I wouldn’t be able to check into my hotel before 14:00. Got my luggage, got my wi-fi sim card, got my JR Pass, charged my Suica, got some instant Chai from Starbucks (the one that Hikaru had just recommended in a blog post XD), bought some fancy looking writing paper (for my letters to Hikaru and Wakana). So yeah, I basically chilled and caught up on all the stuff that I had missed while I didn’t have internet. Around noon I took the Narita Express to Tokyo. I always take the N’EX because it’s super convenient and fast. The fare is high but it’s covered by the JR Pass. From there it’s just one station on the Yamanote Line to my hotel. When I am in Tokyo I always stay at a business hotel in Kanda. Cheap and convenient. Ugh, the short walk to my hotel was hell. Carrying a backpack, shoving my luggage ahead of me, all of that in the middle of the day with the sun blasting down on me. Thankfully two locals took pity on me (I must have looked like I was about to die XD). They helped me with my luggage and brought me to my hotel. All the way I kept apologising because I honestly didn’t expect them to carry my stuff. I was like, “no, no, don’t do it, I will carry it myself!!” But nope, they were pretty stubborn about it. Ahhhh, everyone is so kind, it always makes me happy to be back in Japan. I guess those are the perks of looking like a small girl, everyone feels the need to help you XD Anyways, I checked in, freshened up and then I did a bit of shopping in Akihabara. Nothing extraordinary, mostly I just looked for second hand Kalafina stuff XD (as I always do) During this trip I didn’t buy a lot though. A couple of singles (One Light and Blaze), the LEs for “After Eden” and “far on the water”, that’s about it. I came across re/oblivious but meh, it was too expensive for my taste, that CD isn’t too high on my priority list at the moment if I am being honest. Anyways, I didn’t do much else that day since I was pretty exhausted from my flight and I definitely needed to rest considering all the things that were lying ahead of me. Before I headed to bed I wrote my letter for Hikaru (thank God I bought a bunch of stationary because I screwed up so often and had to start on a new paper XD) and that’s a wrap for my first day in Tokyo.

Try not to travel to Japan in the summer time! Flights are crazy expensive, there are lots of typhoons, most places are brimming over with people (Japanese and tourists alike) and the awful humidity makes you want to kill yourself.

Get a JR Pass if you plan to travel a lot by train/shinkansen (long distance trips). Believe me, it pays off to have one even though the price might seem a bit scary. I like to get to places fast, don’t wanna waste my time by using slow trains or buses. That’s why for me the JR Pass is perfect but it might be different for some of you.

Get a Suica. While the JR Pass is quite convenient, it doesn’t cover any of the metros and other stuff. In most cases you will be able to get around using just JR lines but sometimes it will be much easier to just take the metro or a bus and in these cases a Suica comes in quite handy. You simply charge your card and off you can go.

Get a rental sim card or a portable pocket wi-fi. The first time I went to Japan back in 2014 I didn’t have either of the two and man, I still don’t know how I survived, having no internet sucks. Wi-fi is super important, you can use google maps for orientation, you can always stay in contact with other people. You really shouldn’t travel without it. I recommend sim cards (if your device is unlocked) because the coverage is just much better. Some pocket wi-fis don’t work well in rural areas or underground. Definitely pre-order and don’t get it at the airport (so over-priced there!). I always have my rental delivered to the airport post office. In the past I have used the CDJapan service because it’s super reliable but there are other (cheaper) options I think.

I’d recommend you stay in the Kanda area or close to it: This only goes for people who want to stay in a hotel, if you are wiling to stay in hostels/shared housing the Asakusa area is probably better suited for you. Anyways, this area has a lot of so called business hotels. The rooms are small and basic but really, it’s all you need. And it’s not too expensive. While there are business hotels in other areas, Kanda is just a super convenient location in my opinion. Just one JR station away from Tokyo (down)/Akihabara (up). There’s a direct JR express connection to Shinjuku. Last but not least you have the Metro Ginza Line which connects you to the fancy-schmancy area of Tokyo.

July 31 (Tue) ~ Hikaru Birthday Event

I already posted a pretty extensive report about this day (☞^o^) ☞ HERE! Be sure to check it out if you haven’t already (I have edited it a lot ever since I first posted it). However, there are still a couple of things I didn’t mention there. That day I got my package from Fril with the Keiko Lily Brown blouse and Wakana Candy Stripper sweater I had wanted for a super long time. Too bad it was too hot to wear either of those. Aside from the two clothing items, I also finally got my Harmony magazine and my Hyakka Ryouran key pendants. And of course all the Hikaru merch. Ahhhh! It was a truly glorious Kala-day and I felt like I was being showered with all kinds of Kala-stuff. This was also the start of my Kalafina Pilgrimage (as I like to call it XD). As I have mentioned in my report, my friend Sai and I went to La Maison Kioi. I had already been there during my January trip but it’s such a lovely place that I didn’t mind going again. Still haven’t been to the private room though T_T Such a shame. But it’s on my to-do list. One day I will be in that private room!!! Then we went to Afternoon Tea - Tearoom. It’s the place where Hikaru bought her calpis lassi. We went to the shop in Shibuya Mark City in case any of you wanna go there too. The lassi was okay, nothing spectacular but not too bad. I guess you need to like the taste of calpis. After the live when I got home I immediately had to look for Hi-chan’s blouse. And YAY, I managed to find it super quickly. The price shocked me to be honest. It was almost 100 bucks even though it was already 50% off. At that time I didn’t really wanna buy it because I thought it was too expensive but oh well, I changed my mind XD (but more on that in a later post...)

❗ Some tips ❗

Try using pages like Fril or Zozoused to find old Kalafina fashion items. On my twitter account you can find all my detective discoveries (there’s pretty much nothing else there). You can make awesome deals on those sites. Kala-clothes are super expensive as we all know but when you buy them used, they are MUCH cheaper. The Japanese take a lot of care of their clothes so even their used items will be in great condition.

Try to get to the venue of a Kalafina live as early as possible if you want to buy all the merch. Yes, I know it’s rough and it feels like a waste of time to stand in line for hours on end but believe me, it’s worth it. I have seen many people underestimate the whole lining-up thing. As a reference, we were there at 10 am, the sale started at around 1 pm iirc. It was a small event on a weekday but still, by the time we arrived at the venue there were already around 25 people lining up and afterwards there came a ton more.

Try to bring little souvenirs from your country when you plan to meet up with fellow Kala-fans. Doesn’t have to be much, maybe some small chocolates or something. Everyone will appreciate the gesture and you won’t feel so bad when you receive a ton of stuff from the people around you.

Aug 1 (Wed) ~ Aug 2 (Thu) a.k.a. Mount Fuji Climb

The toughest two days of my trip (my entire life if I am being honest). Ever since 2016 (when Keiko first voiced her wish to climb Mount Fuji) I have had this idea stuck in my head. You know me, I am a crazy-Keiko-fan, she is my idol, my inspiration, literally the love of my life (♥ω♥ ) ~♪ When she said that she wanted to do it I KNEW I had to give it a try too. However, for the longest time I didn’t know if I would ever be able to do it. For one I am basically the least active person on this planet and two, summer is the official climbing season and I had never actually planned to travel to Japan in the summer time. But then all of a sudden the stars aligned and everything fell into place. When I decided to travel to Japan this summer I also decided that I would use the opportunity to climb Mount Fuji. There was no way around it. Plus, I thought it would be a great challenge for my 30th birthday (which was on Aug 2). In preparation I did a lot of cardio and leg strengthening, I also tried to walk AT LEAST 5 km every day for about two months. I met up with Sai at 11 am on Aug 1 (I am so glad I convinced her to come with me - she is a fellow crazy-Keiko-fan XD). We had some lunch at Shinjuku Station (I went for pizza because I thought I could use a lot of energy - and yup, I was right!). Then we took a direct bus to the 5th Station on Mount Fuji where we ate even more food (some overpriced curry). After acclimating for a while we started our hike at around 6 pm. We tried to be all inconspicuous and pretended to be part of a group led by two tour guides. These tours usually cost a lot of money and you can’t just take part in them but I think the tour guides took pity on us because we were all by ourselves (and we are both small so we probably looked like little girls). Or I don’t know, maybe they thought we were annoying gaijins but at any rate, they didn’t tell us to get lost so I guess that’s a good thing. The pace of the group was SUPER slow (which was good because it helped save a lot of energy). I had my issues walking in the group because I can’t stand crowds but it was probably for the best. After about an hour it started to get dark (thank God we all had our head lights because the darkness up there is unbelievably black, you don’t see anything). Soon after it also became freezing. You didn’t notice it when you were walking but whenever we took a break, you could feel the coldness creeping up on you (especially with all the sweat on your body). The entire climb took about 10 hours I would say (much longer than most reports had suggested). Obviously we took some breaks in between but for the most part all we did was climb (at a very slow pace though). Half of the hike we walked together with the group but then they stopped at a hut to rest there. We hadn’t booked a hut so we continued by ourselves but at that point there were so many people on the mountain that you were never alone.

Here comes the embarrassing part. Half-way up I had a full on panic attack. Like literally, I was hyperventilating, I was crying, believe me when I tell you, it wasn’t pretty, I was a mess. Some of the people around us thought I had seriously hurt myself or something but really, it was just me having a meltdown. Quick backstory: I suffer from a serious case of vertigo, I mean sometimes I can’t even walk stairs without getting dizzy. Now for the most part the climb wasn’t too bad. At least until we reached the 7th Station. It was exhausting of course but we had chosen the easiest trail (Yoshida), I was trying my best to always face the mountainside, I never looked down and I had my friend walk between myself and the hillside. But between the 7th and 8th Station the terrain was HORRIBLE: There are lots of steep, jagged-edged rocks. It’s very dangerous (or at least it FELT very dangerous to me). I was frightened to death. I had to use my hands and because I am so small I often had to hoist myself up the HUGE rocks. I was pretty much on my hands and knees for who knows how long. I tried to find the small rocks but sometimes there just wasn’t a way around a big one. The path got narrower as we continued along and there were sections where the ledge of the mountain was barely half a metre away from us! Can you imagine??! HALF A FREAKING METRE! That’s nothing. (*/ω＼*) Sometimes there wasn’t even a rope! Not that a tiny rope would have saved me from falling down (but you get my point!). You couldn’t really see anything, you just saw the blackness next to you. I tried to focus on myself and the person in front of me. And I held onto the mountain as best as I could. This is where being in a group came in handy. Because I was surrounded by people, I was literally FORCED to continue, I couldn’t just stop. This was honestly the scariest and most physically demanding thing I’ve ever done in my entire life. And then when we were taking a short break at one of the huts, I was having my crazy breakdown. I don’t know why it happened at that point, maybe because I couldn’t believe what had just happened. Or maybe I was scared of what would still happen. No idea, but I was close to giving up. I am so grateful to Sai for being by my side, she provided so much support and comforted me. I tried to think of Keiko and how I was doing this because of HER. Somehow, it helped a lot, keeping her in mind provided me with lots of strength. I am not a religious person but I guess this comes close to what people feel when they ask for a little aid from God...(sorry, this might sound blasphemous to religious people but I think it really was like that. It was like having a comforting presence around me that guided me ahead). Oh well, slowly but surely I managed to calm down and then the tour guide said that these had been the scariest parts and the rest of the hike wouldn’t be as bad. What a relief!! Soon after the group took shelter in a hut while we continued onwards. I really wanted to see the sunrise. The final parts were tough, I am not gonna lie. There were so many people that the trail got congested, the terrain was steep again and the summit felt like an eternity away. Then FINALLY at around 3 or 4 am (I don’t reallly know anymore) we reached the top. Sai and I fell into each other’s arms. We cried, we celebrated. We had done it!! ( •̀ᄇ• ́)ﻭ✧ All thanks to Keiko!!! BANZAI!! We found ourselves a nice place and waited for the sun to rise. At this point we were freezing and exhausted so the sunrise didn’t feel as epic as I had expected (or maybe my expectations were too high). It also started to get a bit cloudy so the clouds obstructed the view. But still, mind-blowing experience.

We warmed ourselves up a bit in one of the huts, had some breakfast (or at least Sai did, I just had a coffee - was still feeling a bit off due to my panic attack) and checked out the crater. Then it was time to make our way down. Thankfully you are taking a different trail than the one up. The way down is basically the trail the bulldozers use to transport stuff up and down the mountain. The road is slightly steep but nowhere near as steep as the way up. It’s also not as narrow so you don’t feel like you are falling off the mountain any second. What makes it difficult though is the slippery gravel. You have to be really careful not to slip. Walking downhill is also really hard on the knees and feet so we were in quite some pain. Once again it took longer than expected. I think we walked for about five hours in total until we reached the 5th Station. We took a lot of breaks though and listened to Kalafina. It felt amazing and eased our pain. The further we went down the hotter it got. [I am really surprised I didn’t get sick after the whole thing, so many temperature changes, so much freezing, so much sweating, so much physical exertion and sleep deprivation...I am really proud my body made it through all of that XD] Unfortunately we missed the bus we had reserved for 11 am but thankfully that wasn’t a huge issue because we managed to get seats on a later bus at around 1 pm I think. At around 3 pm we arrived at Shinjuku Bus Terminal and were hit by the Tokyo humidity. The air was so nice and crisp up on the mountain (even on the 5th Station)!! It was a huge shock to be back in the oven that is Tokyo. The plan was to go back to my hotel to freshen up a little and then have some celebratory dinner together. That’s when I had my second breakdown. The hotel staff wouldn’t let Sai come up to my room. I mean, I know the rules, single bedrooms don’t allow visitors but hell, we looked like shit and we hadn’t slept and we were dirty and sweaty and we really just wanted to freshen up a little. I thought they would understand...but they didn’t ...I felt horrible about that because things weren’t going according to plan. I didn’t know what to do, I certainly wasn’t going to leave Sai waiting in the lobby while I freshened up. So yeah, I was just sad and frustrated and exhausted which led to a ton of crying. Once again Sai was the one to provide comfort. We eventually decided to just go have dinner in our current attire. To hell with dirt and sweat. We went to Akihabara, found ourselves a nice Shabushabu place and stuffed ourselves with a ton of meat XD Too bad I forgot to take pictures, it truly was a wonderful meal! We really needed all that meat to recharge our batteries. Then we parted ways and I went back to my hotel. After getting all the dirt and sweat off me I called my family because everyone wanted to talk to me, it was my birthday after all. Then I fell into bed and had a nice refreshing sleep. All in all it was an “interesting” and eye-opening experience, probably the most scary yet exciting thing I ever did. I feel proud of what we achieved during these two days and I will forever treasure the memories. Kalafina has influenced my life like nothing else. They have made me become a better person, a stronger person. This experience has made that very apparent. Without my love for Keiko I wouldn’t have been able to do this. She really inspires me every day and I felt so incredibly close to her while I was up on that mountain. Combined with my nail appointment the next day, this was probably the closest I ever felt to her. It was like a soothing balm after not having heard anything from Keiko in such a long time. Last but not least, I gained an amazing friend. Sharing this experience with Sai felt special, it’s almost like there is a bond between us now.

❗ Some tips ❗

Take Mount Fuji seriously! I think I really did, I prepared myself thoroughly but still, I wasn’t 100% prepared for the experience. So yeah, do not underestimate the climb! People often say it’s an easy climb but that’s not true. It’s certainly not the Everest but it IS a challenge. At some point or another the altitude WILL get to you and the temperature changes are not to be taken lightly. Plus, you have to be in good physical shape.

Good shoes are key.

Bring lots of clothes. It gets VERY cold at night (the temperatures can drop below 0°C). Ski wear is often recommened. Definitely some layers. A hat, a scarf, some gloves and of course a head light. Also, some oxygen in case you suffer from altitude sickness (it’s sold on the huts).

Hydration is actually overrated. If you walk at a slow place (like we did) you won’t need a lot of water. At least we didn’t. So it’s best not to burden yourself with unnecessary weight. I would say a small bottle is enough, no need to bring 3 litres or whatever. It might be different if you walk during the day since you are constantly under the sun.

Even on the easiest trail (Yoshida) there are very dangerous parts so be careful and take things slowly. And be mindful of people behind you!

Decide whether you want to climb at night or during daytime (or both). We decided on a night climb without staying at a hut. This is physically demanding and not many people recommend it but you save a lot of money and time. Hiking during the day and taking shelter at a hut during the night might sound like a good idea but there are downsides to it. First of all, you are constantly under the sun. Secondly, the night at the hut will cost you A LOT and it will make your entire trip a lot longer. Plus, it is most likely not as re-energising as you might think because you will not get proper rest due to all the people around you. Lastly, there are still a couple of hours of night climbing left if you want to see the sunrise. So yeah, that’s why I decided against a day climb.

Expect to pay around 10 bucks to be able to hike up Mount Fuji. It’s some sort of mandatory donation. Also bring lots of 100 yen coins with you because you will need those to use the various bathrooms (which are quite horrible and have no running water so you better mentally prepare yourself for that).

Reserve your bus seats in advance but give yourself PLENTY of time. A one-way bus ticket costs around 20 bucks.

Aug 3 (Fri) ~ Nail appointment at ROI Salon

I didn’t do anything that day except go to my nail appointment (I was still exhausted but surprisingly not in a lot of pain. YAY!). (☞^o^) ☞ HERE’s my thorough report of my experience. Be sure to check it out. I fangirl a lot and I have since edited it quite a bit XD As I have mentioned above, my climb and this appointment have made me feel super close to Keiko. I don’t know how to explain it but I felt a connection. Plus, hearing that Keiko is doing fine, that she is finally getting some well deserved rest, it made me happy. I never had my doubts that Keiko was doing fine but to actually hear it felt nice. So yeah, the first few days of my trip were filled with Kalafina Love. During the Birthday Event I felt like an intimate connection was formed between Hikaru and myself and even though I didn’t actually get to meet or see Keiko, I DID feel close to her. （´・｀）♡ So many wonderful experiences in such a short little time! Absolute PERFECTION.

In your reservation you should mention that you are a Kalafina fan (just so both Keiko and Megumi get the option to change their appointments if they want to - in case Keiko’s appointment aligns with yours)

Be reserved and respectful, DO NOT PRY for information! If information is shared willingly with you that’s totally fine but don’t be the one to initiate anything. Don’t be that creepy stalker fan

PSOH Passage Hen: Chapter 3 “Discipline”

After a long hiatus, get ready for an equally long post. As always, I’m not sure of the exact spelling of pretty much all the names.

SUMMARY

1. This chapter revolves around Kalina, a young girl from the countryside who just moved to Paris and is living with her older cousin, Tajianna. Kalina first gets to know Sofu D as she works at a patisserie, which Sofu visits, and is asked to make a delivery to the pet shop.

2. After leaving the pet shop, Kalina chanced upon Tajianna and a man. Tajianna introduces him as Matthias, a student at the University of Paris. Matthias asks Tajianna and Kalina to dinner later that day and promises to bring a friend along. Kalina assumes that Matthias is Tajianna’s boyfriend. As Kalina is worried that she does not have the proper clothes to dine out in, Tajianna loans Kalina her own clothes. At the dinner, Matthias introduces his friend, Damian, who is a law student at the University of Paris.

3. After the dinner, Tajianna tells Kalina that Damian is not a good catch, as it would take a long time for him to achieve material success as a lawyer or civil servant. In comparison, Matthias is better as he studies literature and is set to inherit his family’s fortune. Tajianna ended their conversation by mentioning that their family’s financial troubles would be over if they can find a rich man to depend on.

4. One day, Damian goes to see Kalina at the patisserie and invites her out to dinner later that day. Kalina rejects him by saying that she has to do her part-time job of sewing. Damian then hands Kalina a small box and leaves. Kalina opens the box and wonders what the contents of the box are. Sofu D randomly sneaks up behind Kalina and informed her that the contents of the box are Calissoms, which are almond biscuits from Provence.

5. The story cuts to Damian and Kalina going out. As they were walking across a bridge, they saw Tajianna behaving intimately with a random guy. Kalina was confused as to why Tajianna is with this guy if she is already in a relationship with Matthias. Damian is surprised at Kalina’s confusion.

6. The next scene then cuts to Kalina confronting Tajianna about the latter working as a social escort. Tajianna defends herself by saying that what she is doing is different from prostitution and that all young women working in Paris engage in such work to earn extra money. Kalina hurriedly returns the clothes, which Tajianna had lent her earlier, as she feels that they are tainted. Tajianna got angry and said that as Kalina also wishes to send money to her family back home, she might as well engage in such work too. At this point, Tajianna suddenly feels nauseous and we discover that she is pregnant.

7. We then cut to Tajianna telling Matthias about her pregnancy. Doubting the baby is his, Matthias gives Tajianna some money to get an abortion and leaves. Tajianna commits suicide by jumping into the Seine. We then see Kalina at Tajianna’s funeral. Damian attends the funeral and Kalina asks him where Matthias is. Damian informs her that Matthias has returned home to marry his fiancée. Upset, Kalina pulled away from Matthias and said that, “All men are the same”.

8. Kalina returns back to her rented apartment. However, she was kicked out as she could not afford to pay the rent which the landlady asked for. Whilst out on the streets, Kalina bumped into a sleazy old guy who propositioned her. She pushed him away in disgust, ran off and was nearly knocked down by a passing carriage. Luckily, Sofu turned up in time to pull Kalina to safety.

9. Back at the petshop, Sofu offered Kalina a pet to comfort her in her grief over Taijianna. Kalina protested that she could not afford the pet and expressed the wish of wanting to make lots of money and showing everyone what she was made of, in order to seek revenge for herself and Tajianna. How could Sofu pass up the opportunity to grab such a customer?

10. Sofu brought Kalina to a backroom of the petshop where there were many beautiful and finely-dressed women. Kalina freaked out, thinking Sofu brought her to a brothel. Sofu noted that the women are powerful demimondaines and basically convinced Kalina that to achieve her goals, she should become one of them. What followed was an intensive course of training by these women (I’m gonna refer to them as “petshop trainers” for lack of a better term) to transform Kalina into a demimondaine.

11. We then cut to Sofu visiting Victor at his place. In return for promising to show Victor the Beast of Gévaudan, Sofu wrangled an invitation from Victor to a special performance at the Paris Opera for both himself and Kalina for Kalina’s “debut”. Kalina managed to charm the masses and after the performance, lots of people swarmed around Victor asking after Kalina. Victor told them that Kalina is a distant relative of his who was in Paris for a visit.

12. Post-Opera, Victor visited the petshop to drop off a whole bunch of letters, which Kalina’s admirers left with him. To be able to pass herself off as a lady with her admirers, Sofu brought Kalina round to various establishments to give her real-life practice of interacting with people in that guise. Kalina managed to do so admirably; even her former bosses at the patisserie where she worked at did not recognise her.

13. Whilst out and about with Sofu, Kalina also met Damian who didn’t recognise her at first. When he did, he was disappointed and said, “So you are just a prostitute after all.” Kalina slapped Damian in anger and ran off in the carriage with Sofu. Sofu and Kalina’s next stop was the Eiffel Tower. Sofu’s point was basically to show Kalina that metaphorically, she could be above all of Paris/ rule over Paris and hence strengthen Kalina’s resolve to become a first-class demimondaine.

14. Kalina’s efforts paid off when she received invitations from two grande dames of Parisian high society. Kalina needs to impress at least one of them so that she would have an entrée into Society. Whilst attending a ball hosted by one of these grande dames, Kalina saw Matthias who didn’t recognise her from before and was asking her to dance. She freaked out and nearly blurted out the whole thing that happened with Matthias and Tajianna (which would have blown her cover of being Victor’s relative). Luckily, an animal from the petshop, in the guise of a young male escort, cut in in time and asked her to dance.

15. After meeting with the two grande dames, Kalina was thoroughly unimpressed. One is a countess of the ancien regime who is wrapped up in the glories of the past/ overly concerned with pedigree to care about things in the present, like caring for her son. The other is basically a nouveau riche who knows the price of everything and the value of nothing. When speaking to her petshop trainers about the snobbish attitudes of these grande dames and the other upper-class people whom she has met, Kalina described them as hungry animals which are regarding their prey.

16. Time for some good, old fashioned petshop-related deaths! The Parisian high society/ jungle analogy continues. On a night of the full moon, the young male escort I mentioned from before shape-shifted into a hyena and attacked his sugar mommy. Similar violent attacks by hyenas occurred all over Paris.

17. From the newspapers brought in by a shocked Victor the next morning, we learnt that a fire destroyed the manor of the countess, the nouveau riche was ruined by a failed investment and that eyewitnesses saw the shadows of large, hound-like figures on the streets near certain manors. But all Victor really cared about was whether the hound-like figures were the Beasts of Gévaudan (which Sofu had promised to show him) and if so, why didn’t they come to HIS manor so that he could see them. -_-‘’ Sofu wryly noted that if the Beasts did visit Victor, he won’t even be at the petshop at that point.

18. Upon finding out about the fall of the two grande dames, Kalina went into philosophical musings about the fleeting nature of fame and fortune etc. and wondered about what path she should take from now on. Kalina started binge-eating some stuff nearby and found a box of biscuits which were the same kind as the Calissoms Damian had given her. Even though Kalina was angry that Damian had called her a prostitute, she was also happy that he was the only person who could still recognise her, even after the transformation she went through. 1 year later, we (and Damian) discover that Kalina had enrolled at the University of Paris, with the aim of securing suffrage for women in France. And, uhh, I guess they lived happily ever after?

THOUGHTS

1. So far, this is my favourite chapter in Passage Hen as: (i) the themes of poverty and prostitution inject a dose of realism into the series and remind us that late 19th century Paris was not all about patisseries, aristocrats and parties (on a sidenote, was strongly reminded of the story of Fantine from Les Miserables by what happened to Tajianna); and (ii) it is nice to see Sofu D liking and actually helping out a human, since he doesn’t seem to have done that before.

2. It was kinda amusing that upon seeing Sofu and Kalina in the same opera box as Victor, the people at the Opera immediately assumed that Victor was carrying on with both of them.

3. When Victor was being bombarded by questions about Kalina and lying about her being his distant relative, someone said, “So that means she is not your lover??” Victor’s response was, “Oh no, of course not. If not, how could I sit together with Count D?” And someone was all, “Ehh!? What does that mean?” Yes, Victor, could you please be less cryptic and tell us exactly what you mean by that??? 0_0

Watching Doctor Who Season 37 (Series 11), Episode One

I’ve been reluctant to talk about the newest season of Doctor Who publicly, despite being a fan for years, having run a Doctor Who blog at one time and now slowly integrating that fandom onto the main blog I use these days. It’s not because there was a point where I stopped being a fan, even though my interest isn’t always at its peak. No, it boils down to another reason.

I am one of those fans who was wary/skeptical about having a female Doctor.

This isn’t the most popular fandom opinion out there and to some extent, I can understand why. Far too many “fans” (and I use that term with reluctance) used the announcement of Jodie Whittaker’s casting to spew all sorts of horrible, sexist (if not downright misogynist) opinions along with expressing disdain for “progressive” people/ideas in general. It was an ugly display of the worst in fandom politics.

Sadly, these people seemed to become the “face” of fans who weren’t enthusiastic about a female Doctor and hey, who wants to be associated with jerks like that? I certainly didn’t. And I certainly didn’t feel like having to explain my own reasoning over and over again at best or at worst dealing with drama and arguments just because I have this view.

So, I just...avoided the new season and any fandom things related to it. Didn’t watch the episodes. Didn’t check out one iota about the new season on social media. Didn’t read any issues of Doctor Who Magazine that could give away potential spoilers or details about the newest season. I remained blissfully unaware of the most current episodes of Doctor Who Heck, I didn’t even know the names of the new companions or any of the episodes. It wasn’t easy, but looking back on it, I’m glad I made that choice.

However.....

I still consider myself a Doctor Who fan. Having a female Doctor, while not my ideal choice, wasn’t going to invalidate all the years I spent watching both Classic and New Who, all the hours I listened to Big Finish audios or all the time spent reading comics/published spinoff novels and fic. Also, this isn’t the first time I haven’t agreed with a casting or story choice, although if there’s one constant to Doctor Who it’s that it’s always changing.

So I’m always aware that, if you totally love something on the show or don’t care for it at all, it doesn’t really matter. Because it won’t be forever anyway.

Although that said, none of my concern for this new season was due to the casting of Whittaker in particular mainly because I haven’t seen her in anything and can’t really comment on her abilities as an actress. That’s actually the same boat I was in for just about every other Doctor before I saw them on the series (with the exception of Patrick Troughton who I had seen in a couple of movies before seeing him as the Doctor).

No, my concerns were totally focused on how the change to a female Doctor would be handled by the writers and directors of the show. It seemed like something that could become cringey and regrettable so easily if handled badly.

Still, I knew deep down that I would eventually want to watch the newest season anyway. However, I surprised myself when I realized all the ways I kept putting it off and I kept wondering why I was so reluctant to finally watch the new season.

Eventually, I think I understood why: because the reasons why I never wanted this development were still nagging at me. Would a female Doctor be treated more like a gimmick the same way the concept had been in EU media for years? Would we get vaguely sexist and/or transphobic jokes about how she had been a man before and “hurr hurr, she do lady things now”? Would the show start to head in a direction I dreaded, such as making it more about soapy romance drama rather than friends having adventures in time and space?

Putting aside my own fandom preferences isn’t always easy, but today I finally decided to say “heck with it” and take the plunge.

This post is the first of a series where I’m going to reflect on my first impressions each episode of the season as I watch it and see if and how my opinions about these changes evolves.

So let’s get started with....

The Woman Who Fell To Earth (nice Bowie reference, by the way....)

Spoilers aplenty under this cut....

Episode thoughts

If you’re going to start a new era of Doctor who, you’re probably best off starting it with a story with plenty of action and emotional intensity.

On that count, this opening episode fulfills this mission well. It starts out nicely by giving the audience a mini-mystery about these aliens and their intentions that unfolds at the same time that it does for the main characters. It only seems a little disjointed at first, but in classic Doctor Who style, the pieces come together quickly and even manage to give us a surprise or two at the end, such as how the Doctor can still maneuver things around to her advantage without us even realizing it. I even liked the framing device of Ryan talking about this amazing woman she knew and the twist that it wasn’t the Doctor....

Although....I honestly just knew that Grace was going to die long before the episode ended. The foreshadowing was just a bit thick although, I can forgive it though, because it’s still less heavy handed than I’ve seen elsewhere.

The pacing was great too, giving us the right mix of peril and action and quieter moments where we get to know these new companions and they, in turn, are getting to know this new Doctor (once again, in tandem with the audience which I like).

If I had one complaint, it’s that the alien threat was a bit too pat. A Predator-type villain that we’ve all seen before and didn’t really have anything new to offer here. Maybe if we had learned more about his race and society it would have come off more interesting. As it is...he’s the blue guy who hunts those “inferior races” and who also has his teeth fetish.....

I almost had a complaint about the episode continuing on after the resolution of the main story, but after thinking some more about it...no, I actually like that they took the extra time to show us more of these people’s lives and who the Doctor has become. It’s too easy to stick to the “fix problem and then *boom* goodbye” way of ending a Doctor Who episode, so kudos for taking a break from that format.

And I really was not expecting that sort of ending for the episode. So I guess we’re back to the Doctor accidentally kidnapping people then. XD And that was a solid cliffhanger at the end. I just hope they actually take the time to give it a satisfying resolution.

Character thoughts

This is where I think the true meat of the episode was and rightly so as it’s a whole new TARDIS team.

I like these new companions. I like that they aren’t complete strangers to each other while also probably having huge gaps in how well they truly know each other. I also like that this is going to be a diverse set of people who have differences in age, gender, ethnicity and life experiences.

What I also like is that these feel like actual people rather than ideas. Graham clearly is skeptical and critical, but also has good ideas and wants to help out. Ryan has a huge chip on his shoulder, but keeps on trying. Yasmin seems to get frustrated when things fly out of her control, but she adapts quickly to new situations.

In other words, we’re given glimpses into how these people are flawed and yet good potential companions for a new Doctor trying to find herself.

And speaking of a new Doctor....

I really had no idea what to expect with Whittaker’s take on the role and thus, I knew whatever I got would be a surprise. My only hope was that it wouldn’t be something that would make me roll my eyes. Thankfully, the former turned out to be true and the latter turned out to be something I didn’t need to worry about.

With every new Doctor I watched while going through the series, there was this sort of “waiting” during their first episode/storyline. A holding period while I looked for a moment where the latest Doctor went from “ok, this is different” to “ok, this is the Doctor” for me. That scene where they just clicked into the role and made that incarnation their own.

That moment came for me while she was tinkering about trying to explain what regeneration was like. Some Doctors are more blase about it than others, but here, I think we got a look at Thirteen’s mindset with the honest, earnest way she talked about it....with the fun moment of eccentric levity at the end.

It is different as far as the energy and personality....and yet, I was so comforted by how Doctor-y it felt to me. That and the moment where she managed to make a sonic screwdriver out of stuff she found around a guy’s shop space....

By the end of it, I was finally able to let go of the tense feeling of worrying if this would work out to being intrigued with what Thirteen would do next. I was even laughing (in that friendly way you do with characters you like) at the quirks that she appears to be cultivating for this incarnation.

The Last Word

Overall, a solid, intriguing way to start this season. The writers have some interesting characters to work with and it looks like they are going to have the episodes have some connection to each other. Both of which have plenty of promise depending on how they are handled.

Most of all though, I am happy to say that I’m looking forward to seeing more. And that is the outcome I was dearly hoping for.

gabe, as per usual, is a theater major (though he tends to work more on set design/costumes/directing than actually acting). he and jack meet in some required class, like a math class or something, because they happen to sit next to each other

jack is struggling. he is Not good at this subject. they get tests back and jack's grade is bad. he accidentally sees the score on gabe's paper and it's like 99%.

holy shit the hot guy sitting next to him is smart

he kinda flashes his own test score at gabe with a weak smile and is like "hey, ha, guess i should've spent less time playing football and more time studying."

gabe just kinda glances at him and goes back to his own thing with a dismissive "mm."

jack's expression wilts a little bit but he brightens up and asks, "so uh, any tips? how'd you get to be so good at this?"

"by not talking during class," gabe says shortly.

SuspiciousPopsicle - 11/08/2017 Jack is only deterred for a moment. He asks if he can hire Gabe as a tutor. Gabe reminds him that there's a tutoring center on campus Jack could use, and eyes him suspiciously. He could definitely use a bit of spare cash, but he doesn't know why this guy is offering in the first place. Jack upps the offer: cash, plus dinner every night Gabe can tutor him. Deal.

Elated by this success, Jack doesn't think at first about how quick he's going to blow through his spare cash doing this. He actually ends up getting apart time job in order to pay Gabe's tutoring fees, which isn't a problem...right up until Gabe starts to warm up to him and wants to hang out, but Jack has to work. =(

When he mentions that he tried to find Jack at work, Jack just waves it off and admits he only got the job to pay Gabe, and since he's a lost cause he figured why bother? He neglects to mention that he's been trying to study on his own with his schedule freed up again.

WIP Ask Game

I got asked “11, 13, 16 und 19?” by @madmooninc via message :D Thank you so much! :D

11 - Which character do you have the most in common with?

Hm. I love painting, the way Ava does, and reading, and making up stories (obviously). I also love animals a lot. I had a lot of nightmares when I was young, too, though not necessarily monsters under my bed. Ava really wasn’t supposed to be the way she is like, now, she just kind of became? In the end all of my characters have small pieces of me woven into them, because how else would I write them? But I think Ava might have the most, even if she’s far more chaotic than I am. Or maybe Fiyare? Good question x’D Sadly I was never that close to my brother as they both are/were XD Though I’m very happy that my parents aren’t in any way like Jon and Liz :)

13. Your characters are stranded on an deserted island. What happens?

(That reminds me of the fact that I still have to do that timetravel tag, ahahha. I’m sorry, that’s at least 3 months old by now...)

“Well, we can’t drink the sea water, that’s for sure. But there might be a water source somewhere up that mountain.” Ben looks around the island with a quizzical expression, trying desperately to find something -- anything -- that could relieve the situation. The mountain looks very steep. “Why did the stupid boat have to break down anyways?” Ava kicks at a rock. The rock refuses to budge. She huffs in pain, and then kicks at the rock again. This time it goes flying. “It’s only our luck that this island is called Disappointment Island! We should’ve known better!” She laughs a bit helplessly. They have lost most of their posessions, the wreck is probably going to be arriving during the next few days if it didn’t sink, and all the technology they had with them has broken down. Mom and Dad are discussing what to do next -- well, Mom is discussing. Dad is still mostly in shock, even after two hours, and he’s probably not going to be much help after that, either. He has no idea how to survive in the jungle. “Don’t worry”, Kiyera says jovially. “I know a trick or two. We’ll be good in no time.” “We just need to worry about the essentials first”, Iuri adds, nodding approvingly. “Find a place to stay, something to eat, and most of all: Water.” None of them say what they’re all thinking: We can be happy that we’re still alive. That everything went this well, considering how many drowned in shipwrecks. “Too bad they took down the castaway depots”, Ben says thoughtfully. “I read about them in that book that you gave me, Kiyera. About shipwrecks and pirates and the sea trade. A good book.” Now on the ground of the ocean, probably. “We should go check out the island”, Kiyera says. “Find out how big it is, what kinds of animals live here. Maybe they left something behind in that depot. The building should still be standing, right?” The others nod, happy that someone else is giving the instructions. “All right. Move as a group, stay together, be wary of, well... I don’t know. Just be careful and try to step where we do. I’m going to get Liz, then we can continue thinking about this.” Ben smiles thankfully at her. It’s nice to not be in charge for once - something he’s still getting used to, now that they’ve made so many new friends. Now that things are finally going uphill for the Nichols family again. “Don’t leave me, Ben”, Ava says quietly, clutching at his hand. He smiles at her, too. They’re all bruised and cut in places, and Ava is too, but she’s taking it in step, not complaining or crying. “I’ll never leave you”, he tells her, and it’s the truth. As long as they’ve got each other everything is going to be all right. Even if they’ll end up shipwrecked forever. But that’s not likely; he knows that there are endemic birds living here so scientists and ornithologists are bound to wind up here sooner or later. And anyways, he’s always wanted to have an adventure. And who gets a better vacation adventure than him, being stranded on an island with his favourite people in the world?

They find water that same day, and build themselves a shelter out of branches and leaves later that evening, because Kiyera is an expert in survival stuff since she led a Girl-Scout Group for several years. A very hardcore one. They are rescued three days later by a helicopter because they built a huge bonfire and because they had to leave Azrae behind because they didn’t get off from work so Iuri used to call them every night. After not hearing anything for three days straight, Azrae alarmed the coastal guards and a search party was sent out. And so Ben and Ava have the best story to tell when they return to school after the holidays.

16. What would your characters be for Halloween?

Good question! Halloween!AU in our universe :D

Ava: She’s a witch, but the nice kind (not the stereotypical evil ones). She helped a bit with the designs. It has a lot of feathers, and is probably a very earthy type of witch, mostly greens and browns. Also the witch might be a princess, too, because she has a tiara over her hat. (She loves disney princesses, after all. Especially Tiana)

Ben: I’d love to say that he would be more carefree in our world but probably not. But damn it, he loves superhero comics so he’s defintiely going as Superman, because he’s the best. Obviously.

Fiyare: A black cat, of course! Her costume is going to be really elaborate but she’ll take care to only use faux fur, and despite it’s amazingness it’ll still be rather simplistic. And def not the sexy cat version, she hates those. Fiyare’s also the one who helps the children with their costumes.

Kiyera: A pirate... hehehe. All the children in the neighbourhood love her, especially because she has a lot of (rescued) parrots sitting all over her.

Azrae - Azrae is going to be the most dramatic of them all. Nobody is surprised. They literally come as Death, but a far more enigmatic version. They’ll ask Fiyare to help them with the sewing and since she’s always happy to help she’ll teach them. Azrae does everything themselves, of course, not even letting Iuri help.

Iuri - She’s going to go as a dragon, the (in theory) firebreathing version. With elaborate scales makeup and costume. She and Azrae spent all their free time the weeks before making the most magnificent costumes. Iuri’s has small scales sown on everywhere and her makeup is on point.

Jon - He wanted to go as a character from the Silmarillion (because he loves Tolkien’s work so much, and making fan art and connection with the fan base has helped him immensely with his depression) but he couldn’t decide which one he loved the most, and because time is fickle he didn’t manage to make anything. So he goes as a vampire with a cheap costume from the store, because vampires sleep during the day, too.

Liz - She’s EXTREMELY into steampunk so her costume will have a thousand cogs and small pipes everywhere. She’s been working on it for at least half a year. At first she tried to make the rest of her family join but Ava wanted to go as a witch so badly and didn’t like the pipes, so Liz finally stopped talking about it. The end result of her late nights spent in the attic might be too heavy to wear for long, so the next year she’ll have to optimize. But that’s the price you pay. And she’s looking pretty fabulous.

Lee Daehwi - Gift (Valentine’s Series 2/11)

Note: Yesterday was Jihoon’s Valentine’s Scenario, and today is Daehwi’s! Does anyone else remember those silly little Valentine’s cards you’d get as kids? With the cheesy little sayings and usually a cartoon character on them? Or is it just cuz I’m old that I remember those? XD Anyway, I hope that this is okay and not too rushed. I was really struggling with this one last night and I wasn’t sure if it turned out okay. I hope that everyone still likes it ^^ Please enjoy and look forward to tomorrow’s as well! :D

Footsteps shuffled quickly around the small home as you made sure that you had everything you needed for the day. You had your school books, your lunch, and also a bag full of little Valentine’s chocolates that you had put together for your classmates. It wasn’t required or anything, but you thought it would be nice to give everyone a little something today. After all, it could get a little lonely and sad if a person didn’t receive something, so why not try to brighten up their day a bit?

In addition to these little packets of candy, you also made one, super special, for your longtime friend, Daehwi. And his gift was packaged a little differently than everyone else’s. Whereas your classmates were getting little clear bags full of chocolates, Daehwi’s had a little more. His gift was wrapped in a red bag, tied off with a pretty ribbon. Inside were some chocolates as well as some homemade brownies that you had made with extra chocolate. In addition, there was also a silly little card.

It was a lot like one of those little premade Valentine’s that you used to get as kids, sealed closed with a sticker and maybe with some candy attached to it. It had been a long running tradition between you and Daehwi to get each other one of these silly cards after you both, coincidentally, gave each other the same Pokemon Valentine’s card years ago. It had a picture of an Exeggcute on it and it read, ‘Hope your Valentine’s Day is EGGcellent.’ It was silly then, and it was silly now, but it was fun. Daehwi had given you some pretty quality ones over the year and you still had them all saved in a box at home.

This year you both decided to circle back to the Pokemon theme because it seemed appropriate. Thing was, they didn’t really make those silly cards anymore so you had to make your own this year. Tucked in his gift with all of the other little goodies was a folded and sealed card. On the inside of that card was a picture of a Happiny, the message reading, ‘You make me Happiny!’ Again, it was silly, but it was just right for the two of you.

But this year’s gift also had something extra included. Inside the bag was a letter, a letter that confessed to Daehwi how much you liked him. You honestly weren’t really a big fan of telling someone in letter form, but you had been unsuccessful in actually doing it in person. You couldn’t say when you started to feel this way for Daehwi, but it had happened. And every time you tried to tell him, when he would walk you home or when you were out getting dinner together, you just couldn’t.

You had asked for advice from some of your other friends, and all Guanlin told you to do was just tell him. When you said that wasn’t possible and after pestering you for half an hour as to why, he gave up and just told you to write Daehwi a letter. You didn’t get why he was so exasperated over your inability to tell Daehwi in person. It wasn’t like Guanlin was able to confess to the girl he liked either.

Still, you decided to give it a shot. The worse Daehwi could do was tell you that he wasn’t interested. And though that would kind of suck, it wasn’t the end of the world, as long as the two of you could still be friends. So you left the house that morning in hopes of something good, but you weren’t holding your breath for it. This was a drama, right?

That day you walked to school on your own, your usual companion left early for his club activities that morning. Since today’s gift was a special one, you decided to drop Daehwi’s gift off right when you go there. Usually you would wait to give him his gift when the two of you did your exchange after school, but today… it felt right to change things up. You knew that a majority of Daehwi’s classmates usually got in just before class started and that you could sneak in and out of the room without being noticed, so that was a bonus for you as well.

However, when you entered his classroom and approached his desk, you were a bit surprised to see it already covered in gifts. Nicely wrapped boxes with beautiful red bows and decorations. Cute stuffed animals and what looked like gourmet sweets. You knew that Daehwi was popular amongst the female population at your school. He was extremely sweet and kind, but this was… this was more than you had expected. All of a sudden your silly little card and homemade goods didn’t seem so special anymore.

Your name being called pulled you out of your thoughts as one of Daehwi’s classmates greeted you. “He got a lot this year, huh. Usually his desk isn’t overflowing like this. Are you here to drop off your present from Daehwi too?” he teased, catching a glimpse of the small pouch in your hands.

You quickly slid it back into your open bag, not having the heart to leave your present amongst all of Daehwi’s other gifts. “N-no, I actually came here looking for Daehwi. I thought he would be done with his club activities by now,” you lied.

“You’re a little early, but I’ll let him know you stopped by,” the male replied and you thanked him, handing him one of the little bags of candy that you had put together before swiftly exiting the room. You headed to your own class with a heavy heart, handing out the remainder of your gifts, trying to take your mind off of all the gifts that Daehwi got…

“Hey, were you thinking of leaving without me or something?” Daehwi asked when he finally caught up to you.

Usually you would wait for him at the gate so that the two of you could leave together, but today, you really just weren’t feeling it. The more you thought about how lame your gift looked compared to those other ones, the more disheartened you felt. Sure, homemade things had their charm, but they couldn’t compete with expensive chocolates and expensive presents. You felt a bit off, so you wanted to head home right after school. It did not seem like your friend was going to let you though. “Sorry, was just kind of distracted I guess…” you replied cryptically, being met with a pout from your friend.

“I know what will make you feel better,” he said, grabbing your hand and pulling you down the street to your favorite ice cream shop. Daehwi knew you well enough to know that ice cream from this place, mostly when your mood was low, always seemed to help. “Let’s get some ice cream and then do our Valentine’s exchange!” he said happily, not giving you any time to disagree as he jumped in line and ordered for the both of you. He then proceeded to pay, not giving you any time to object to the free ice cream. “It’s on me today. You’ll get the next one.”

You rolled your eyes at him. He said that every time the two of you came to this ice cream shop and every time he paid. Like you were ever going to pay when he was this overeager for ice cream.

Once you both got your ice cream cones, you took a seat at one of the tables, your eyes catching a glimpse at the large bag that Daehwi had put down, full of all of those gifts from those girls. You started to feel that feeling again. That uncomfortable feeling in the depths of your stomach.

“I’ll go first! Here!” Daehwi said enthusiastically as he pulled out a small, red box that had a thin black ribbon wrapped around it. Daehwi watched eagerly as you opened it, revealing a small pouch of those heart-shaped candies, and some heart-shaped chocolates. Sitting on top of it all was a folded card, complete with a sticker seal. You slowly opened it, giggling when you saw a picture of a Treecko with the words, ‘I’ll never leaf you!’ at the top. “Daehwi, it’s cute,” you said, still giggling. He really did know how to make you feel better. You weren’t sure if this was intentional or not, but it managed to lift your sprits a bit.

“I know that you said that you were getting kind of tired of those candy hearts, so this year I decided to do less of those and more chocolates. You really liked these ones last time, right?” he asked, picking up one of the heart-shaped chocolates as you nodded. “So, where’s mine? I’m excited to see it.”

As soon as he asked, he could see your expression change. Every year you were always so excited to exchange Valentine’s, but he couldn’t help but notice that this year felt a little different. “Hey, is something wrong? Why do you look so sad all of a sudden,” he asked, his tone full of concern. It really wasn’t like you, and he was worried.

“It’s not that. It’s just… well you’ve gotten some really good gifts this year. Mine seems super lame in comparison…” you confessed, knowing that if you didn’t know say it that Daehwi would bug you about it until you told him. He had gotten really good at interrogating you for information over the years.

Daehwi looked up at you as he took a bite from his ice cream. “Oh…” he said slowly, looking down at the bag at his side. He did get a lot of gifts this year. Most years he was able to shove them all into his bag, but this year… not so much. He didn’t know that they bothered you so much though, and if he had he would have just brought them home another time. “I mean, these gifts are nice, and these girls put a lot of thought into them, I’m sure, but I know that you put even more thought into yours. You don’t have to give it to me, but I do look forward to yours every year…” he admitted sincerely.

“R-really?”

Daehwi nodded. “Yours always feels extra special because we have this tradition going on, you know? Plus you make a lot of it by hand and I really like that,” he said with a smile. “So if it’s okay, could I get my Valentine?”

You gave a small nod as you reached into your bag, pulling out the small parcel, cradling it in your hands as you presented it in front of Daehwi. “Thank you,” he said softly as he pulled at the ribbon to unveil a small bag of chocolates, a bag of brownies, and a card, which he was quick to open. A smile spread on his features as he read it. “Let me tell you something, just between us,” he said, his voice dropping to a whisper. “You also make me Happiny,” he said cheekily as he gave your cheek a poke. He watched as you laughed at his silliness, happy that he got you to laugh.

With a smile on his own features, Daehwi was about to go back to his ice cream when something else caught his eye. Underneath the chocolate was a letter. “What’s this?” he asked, pulling the letter out from under the bags. He was about to open it when you reached over and stopped him. “What’s wrong?” “Y-you shouldn’t read that…” you stuttered, completely forgetting in the fun that you having that you wrote him a letter confessing how you felt.

“Why not? It’s for me isn’t it? Why wouldn’t you want me to read a letter that’s for me? Unless…” he gasped. “Is this a letter to say you want to stop our tradition?!”

“No, Daehwi it’s not that it’s… it’s embarrassing what it is, so please don’t read it…”

“Okay…but then why don’t you just tell me what it is then. If it’s too embarrassing to read, you can tell me, right? We’re friends…” he reasoned.

You were at a loss of what to do. If he read it, he would get the sappy version of what you wanted to tell him. It was the reason you wanted to drop it off this morning instead of giving it to him when you were together. How could you know that some other girl hadn’t confessed to him yet, some girl that he might have liked? Yet not telling him wasn’t an option either. Daehwi was going to get suspicious. So what were you to do?

After a bit of silence, you gave a small nod. “I’ll tell you, but no making fun of me, okay?” He nodded eagerly, wanting to clear up this new tension that had formed between the two of you. “I like you…”

“I like you too.” he said.

“No, not like that. Daehwi, I really like you,” you said earnestly, thinking that your friend was just being nice to you.

“I know, and I really like you too, you silly girl,” he said with a chuckle, waiting for you to realize exactly what he was saying. He had realized how he felt about you for a few months now, but he didn’t want to jump too far forward. He wanted you to realize it too, and he wanted to make sure that the situation wasn’t one of those awkward confessions.

“Y-you do?” you asked, a bit surprised.

He nodded, reaching for your hand. “I wanted to wait for you to say something because I didn’t want to burden you with my own confession. I figured that once you did, I would just tell you as well. Just so that we both know, instead of playing that cat and mouse game. I do like you a lot. I’m not lying or just saying those words…”

“It took us a little bit, huh…” you said sheepishly.

“Yeah, but now we know. And now I’m going to read your letter!” he said happily.

“Yah, Lee Daehwi, you promised me you wouldn’t read it!” you said with a pout.

“I promised my friend that I wouldn’t read it. I didn’t promise my new girlfriend that I wouldn’t read it. I want to see all of the nice things she wrote about me~” he said in a sing song tone as he picked up the letter with a giant grin on his features.

You made a move to grab it back from him, but he was too fast for you, already on his feet and running out of the ice cream shop, with you not far behind your boyfriend…
