I think a lot of people are forgetting that on tumblr fandom used to be practiced very differently. now everyone fucks off to their discords or tumblr groups to discuss everything with a select few, making tags be nearly only used for posting some finished fanworks or not at all

a decade ago people didn't have tumblr groups. people didn't even have dms. if you wanted to talk to anyone about anything you had to make a post, or send an ask (which more often than not would get published and thereby become a post in the end too)

so next time you think "I have a fandom thought but I have to find a small group of hyperspecifically like-minded people to share it with in private" remember all the freaks you could be missing out on meeting by keeping the tags dead. use tags, make friends. fuck discord.

As both the World Wars and Tolkien recede from living memory I feel like there's room in the fantasy-doorstopper space for someone to do a story about a decaying, hegemonic fantasy nation that's been coasting on an internal narrative about how they beat the dark lord and the evil empire a generation ago, with basically every bad thing that's gone down since then being the result of someone growing up on those stories trying to pattern match whatever bullshit they're about to enact to that last wonderful moment of collective moral clarity

every major structural social problem right now is basically "we don't have enough skilled workers on the ground" and the reason is always "well we've been intentionally underpaying and understaffng them for decades to increase corporate profits" and somehow the news always just mentions the "shortage" without digging into the cause

air travel is a mess? shortage of air traffic controllers - for some mysterious reason

logistics a mess? shortage of truck drivers - for some mysterious reason

public transit can't meet demand? shortage of bus drivers - for some mysterious reason

We even mysteriously have shortages of doctors, nurses, teachers... FOR SOME MYSTERIOUS REASON

Suddenly, it wasn't OK to have a atypical relationship with sex. If you don't want sex you're broken and should be corrected, if you deny your partner sex you're abusing them, if you have sex just for your partner you're being abused, if you have sex (without sexual attraction) because you want it you're a self-harming attention whore faker, if you only masturbate you're a pervert, if you're not attracted to [adult] people you must be attracted to something else (animals/children*), and so on and so on

That is what sex negativity is, the belief there is a Normal-Good sexuality (however the speaker defines it), and bad weird sexualities that are harmful and gross and wrong and dangerous.

This, like most aspects of ace discourse, didn't go away after the lines were redrawn to "include" (more like, dismissively tolarate) aces in Normal-Good sexuality.
