I just finished chapter 20 because I’m procrastinating my studying for my last exam and oeojehqlshvsmsjdgshhsjs my mind is all over the freaking placeeeeeee.

I don’t want to distract you too much and you don’t have to respond but if you want can you describe what you think Jack’s clothing looks like (mainly his armor, but his normal wear also intrigues me) 👀

I love drawing and your fic is giving me so much motivation, but I like to have the original imaginers ideas if they have a specific look or feel in mind

Okay, so, first of all. THANK YOU SO MUCH OMG. When I first saw this, I squealed and got actually angry that I didn't have the time to respond right away. I'm so glad you're liking my fic so far! I'm SO hyped to see what you're planning!! I'm literally vibrating rn from excitement. ❤️❤️❤️

Anyway, on to the recently growing issue that is Jack's clothes. Istg his outfit is on the FBI's most wanted at this point, and let me tell you why. The reason I avoided describing what Jack was wearing like it was the second coming of the bubonic pluage was because, funnily enough, even I didn't know what Jack was wearing.

Fics with the same or similar trope of Jack being a Dragon Rider have existed before, TROAS is a perfect example of that, so creating an outfit for Jack that didn't feel unoriginal was hard. Thankfully, I took a few hours out of my day today to finally tackle this issue.

Edit: Deciding to put a cut here so people don't have to scroll so far just to get to the rest of my page.

Instead of describing it to you, I figured it'd be easier if I just drew something of my own and then showed you, so that you and any other fan who'd like to do fanart of I Saw Stars can have a reference photo at the least. Obviously, you can alter and change things about my designs. They're far from perfect, and I'd love to see what you can come up with! These are just the things I thought of.

Jack's normal wear:

I figured it'd be cool and also really cute if Jack kept his original hoodie and just slapped some light leather armor on top of it. (Only because Valka forces him to, of course.) As for the staff, *starts sweating* uhm... honestly, I just imagined it being made out of wood. I know nothing about different types of wood or their durabilities, so I'll definitely research that and find an actual material for his staff. For now though, I bestow upon you creative liberty on that fornt. 😅

Jack's dragon riding armor:

This is sadly just a concept sketch and not a full body like the last one. The reason for this is that I genuinely don't know what else to add other than the hood that I gave him. It's hard to make something that's not only white, made of scales, and has been redesigned by like five different authors by now, but that also has to be physically possible.

Note about Jack's character design in both photos that you might find helpful: Jack's primary shape used in Canon is a hexagon (like an actual snowflake). I decided to keep that in his normal attire, but for his armor, I switched his primary shape to a heart, so he matched Artemis. You don't have to do this, but I thought you might like the distinction a bit.

Anyway, thank you so much again! I can't wait to see what you cook up with the motivation my fic has given you!!! Also, I hope your finals go well. Those are always super stressful all the time 😭

reader impact || first meeting

series masterlist characters: xiao, albedo genre: fluff summary: a game has been released entitled genshin impact, consisting of otherworldly abilities relying on the basic elements of nature. the game follows the story of an interdimensional traveling twin in search of their other half. along this journey, they meet different characters that live in this world. including you. notes: have i read a few genshin impact x game character reader stories and impulsively decided to make one too? maybe. you can't prove anything. i don't know if this will be a series but we'll see :D

xiao's playthrough -

xiao, named as alatus on his streaming platform, has made himself known as a gaming streamer with an awkward personality and blunt words.

he's the type of streamer who wouldn't have a set type of game and would, instead, play whatever his viewers recommended.

valorant? sure, he'll try it out.

hitman? why not?

animal crossing? it's a complete 180 from the other games, but sure.

when one of his viewers recommended genshin impact, he was quick to say yes and search for the game.

once the game finishes downloading, he quickly begins the game.

once the opening cutscene passes, he compliments the overall aesthetic of the game, pointing out the smaller details such as the footprints made by his character and the sound their clothes make when they move.

as always, his expressions are quite monotone to a point where it seems nothing draws his attention towards the game.

one of his mods, however, knows xiao well enough to where he knows which character he would like.

they convince xiao that the game is worth sticking with towards the second half of chapter 1, act 1.

he doesn't understand but he trusts his mods so he promises to continue.

it takes a few hours, especially because of the grinding, but a few streams later he's finally made it.

after fighting a one-sided argument with cloud retainer, he immediately begins his trek to the wangshu inn. and yes, trek, he enjoys walking/gliding through the world of teyvat rather than fast traveling everywhere.

he walks up the stairs to the top floor of the inn, resting his hands in his lap as the cutscene begins.

"to the blind, everything may not be as it appears..."

xiao is normally stoic during games, even ones with scenes made to fluster the player and catch them off guard.

but not this time.

once xiao's character is faced with yours, he just stops. his chat is spamming messages, asking if he's okay and if he's actually emoting for once.

he just stares at your character for a good five minutes.

and trust me, at least half of his viewers clipped that.

"... who are they?"

that was his only question after those minutes of silence. never before had he been attached to a character within the first few minutes of meeting them. his mind is racing and all he can think about is how amazing your character design is and how nice your voice is and how cool your character is and--

oh right, he's streaming right now...

anyway, the more your conversation goes on, the more he loves your character.

you're just so sassy and snappy but he loves you either way.

once you turn away with your back towards the camera, he just stares.

he stares at the intricate tattoo on your exposed arm and the mask hanging off of your belt.

and then you're gone.

his face drops so quickly and his viewers are very quick to point it out. he grimaces once paimon starts talking and he's very tempted to just speed through her dialogue.

he just wants to see you again.

once he hears from verr goldet that you've never smiled (at least around her), he immediately turns to the camera and says, "we better make them smile in this game."

once he finds out about your favorite food, he's already asking his viewers if he's able to get the recipe for it.

the next time he gets to talk to you, his face just lights up once he sees your character standing on the balcony.

however, once his characters tell you about rex lapis's death, his heart sinks when he hears how sad your voice becomes, even if your tone is still as harsh as before.

he gets all sad again when the quest ends and he has to wait to unlock the next archon quest.

he ends the game there and decides to spend the last few minutes talking to his viewers.

"i'll stream genshin again soon."

his viewers all know it's only because he met you.

albedo's playthrough -

albedo often does art streams and the occasional science-y stream.

if he does games, he mainly uses them to admire the art/mechanics of the gameplay.

genshin impact was one of those games he decided to play on his own solely because of the beautiful scenary.

(and the opportunity to draw more characters).

he's definitely the player that cares about elemental reactions above all else. pretty much every character he uses is built for elemental damage instead of physical.

most of his genshin streams are him walking around teyvat and pointing out the scenary.

he was definitely excited for the dragonspine event because that meant a better view of teyvat!

what he wasn't prepared for, however, was the reveal of a new character: you.

he isn't too into looking at the updates for genshin on his own, so he didn't find out about who you were until his stream asked about it.

he decided to react to the newest updates live since his chat seemed excited to hear his input.

once he pulled up the latest update details, he spent a few minutes talking about the new subzero mechanic.

but once he scrolled down to the characters... OH BOY

he's able to keep his composure but he definitely spends longer talking about you.

he almost gasped when he saw you were the chief alchemist of mondstadt.

combine that with the fact that you rely on elemental damage instead of physical...

your honor, he's fallen hard.

he'll put a countdown on stream to when your character and event drops, even on his non-genshin streams.

speaking of those streams, on the week just before your event, his streams will all be based around you and the information he's seen on you.

his art streams will consist of you and how he thinks your attacks will work just based on the description (he purposely avoided all pictures of your attacks for this stream).

his science-y streams would probably be based on your element.

once your event drops, that's the only thing he'll stream until it's over.

your assistant used to be his favorite character to play as but they just never clicked. it's not like he hates your assistant, it's just he didn't immediately fall in love with them.

his party definitely has your assistant in it, though.

he would have normally taken his time to look around dragonspine and admire the new scenery, but he couldn't help but speed through it until he finally gets to see you onscreen.

once the cutscene officially introduces you in front of a canvas, he's internally panicking.

you like art too?! and science?! how perfect can you be?!?!?!

he will genuinely feel bad when he scares the hilichurls because he knows that that's what you were sketching.

"who are you? why did you alarm them?"

NOW HE FEELS EVEN WORSE

even when you tell him you've finished sketching, he wants to make it up to you :((

if he were able to, he would've lured more hilichurls to let you sketch more.

some people in his chat would probably spam him to skip your dialogue because it's so wordy, but that's the exact reason why he listens to it all.

he likes listening to your character ramble on, especially because you have a soothing voice.

anytime your character does their idle animation where you give life to something, he will always let it play. even if your dialogue is finished before the animation, he would not progress until it's completed.

once your character asks for help, he would immediately agree before you finished your sentence.

man just wants to spend more time with you.

he likes staring at the tattoo on your neck whenever the camera is close to you. he just thinks it's really pretty on you.

once your other nonplayable assistant begins talking, he'll skip through the dialogue. he doesn't care if it goes more in depth into this world's alchemy, he just wants to hear it from you.

"hmm, looks like the potion's ready. i'll try a little first."

"please don't..."

he doesn't want you to try it just in case it hurts you :(

anytime he is allowed to walk freely with you around, he'd definitely put his traveler character next to you for a few minutes and just let you two stare at each other.

someone asks him why he spends a few minutes doodling on his desk when you talk.

he shows them the notebook that he had been writing notes in. it's filled with little doodles of you and some more information you give on the world of alchemy.

for future streams the involve you, he'd set up another camera to show the notes and doodles he's making about you.

sometimes he'll spend a few minutes on a single section where the camera is focused on you just to recreate the picture in the notebook.

he absolutely loves whoever planned out the camera angles because of how cute you look in every one of them.

he definitely gets a bad vibe from rosaria when she hints at the fact that you may be using alchemy against him.

he will defend you and alchemy to his grave!

that one scene where you create a flower in front of you is one he will always treasure.

he makes sure someone clipped that moment just so he can draw that, make it a print, and put it on his wall.

since most of his viewers most likely consist of artists, he will encourage them to draw you and send him fanart. he will put them all on a wall and dedicate every picture that goes there to you.

"if i one day lose control... destroy mondstadt... as well as everything around it..."

"huh?"

"will you be there to stop me?"

"wait... no."

if people were only listening to that portion, they would still be able to hear the pout on his face.

he'll end the game there but change his stream into an impromptu art stream.

he will only be drawing you in nice situations to distract himself from the fact that there is something going on with you.

"hm? what do you mean something's wrong with (name)? i have no idea what you're talking about."

Chapter 1

Chapter 2

Summary: Danny wakes up to find himself in a lab with Jazz, Daniel, or Timberwolf, putting his mind at ease.

He wakes with a start, eyes wide; the pulse of his core grounds him.  Letting out a sigh, he looks around; he spots Jazz first, then the giant computer.  Two pictures, one of him the other is Jazz, the word missing is in bold red letters.  "I already told you I found them, but without reason for the need of the sister, you won't be able to find them."  A voice snaps, Danny turns invisible, stepping toward the voice, "You realize that you're disrupting Federal work," Danny stills; that's the voice of Operative K.

"Well, Mr. Kyle, the information shouldn't be THAT confidential would.  You're only returning two children to their parents, so if you don't tell me the use of the girl, neither you nor the Fentons' will get the kids."  The screen cuts, a growl resonates from the man at the computer; "Good to know you're awake, Phantom."  Danny steps back as the man stands up, "Easy, I'm not gonna hurt you; you're bleeding you."  Danny spots the scrape on his elbow; that's right, he fought the Lunch Lady.

Jazz has woken up around two hours after Danny; it's 3 pm now.  Daniel, as Danny learned, has been Timberwolf for seven years, at least two years before the accident.  "Honestly, I'm surprised your folks haven't caused much more damage,"  Daniel says, setting the herbal tea down for Jazz.  “It’s okay, our, no their not our parents,” Jazz growls, earning an eyebrow raise from the older male.  Danny lays his forehead on the wooden table; Daniel looks at both carefully, Jazz has bags under her eyes.

“Hey, Danny,” said younger male looks up; Daniel has a smile on his face.  He holds up three fingers, “You get three conversation topic choices: Gaming, sports, and, well, politics.”  Both teens look at each other, “Gaming,” Daniel smiles, stepping away from the table.  “Subcategory: Boards or consoles?”  Danny moves toward the Doomed plastic casing before Jazz can stop him, “Figures.”

The following five hours consist of the two Daniels fighting against pixelated demons: Jazz is keeping score.  “So, Daniel, what’s your occupation,” Daniel makes a quick dodge, slashing the assailant.  “Bio-engineering, the Wolfcorp Eco. labs were my grandfather's greatest achievements,” Danny finishes off the final boss, “Yes!”  Danny pauses, “Wait, Wolfcorp, as in the big Go Green lab just outside of Sanford, Sam loves that place!  Whenever a new article is out, she talks non-stop about it,” Daniel smiles, he grabs a magazine, “Newest release, Bio-chem energy bars, with edible wafer wrapping.”

At nine o’clock, Daniel shows the two kids their guestrooms; Danny gives a dry laugh, “How long?”  Daniel sets the bags down, “Oh, since I left Amity Park, I mainly set the room up in case you needed a different place to sleep.  Same with Jazz, I heard NC State reached out to her.”  The younger sits on the bed, his eyes land on the fanart sketch of Timberwolf.  “Yep, I kept that, plus I forged your signature; that sketch helps me remember what I sometimes do.”

With the younger in bed, Daniel politely knocks on the older girls’ room, “Come in.”  Daniel enters, smiling at Jazz reading the psychology books, “You know, I sometimes wonder if you ever stop reading on your own.”  Jazz looks up, admiration in her eyes, “I had no idea your grandmother was a psychiatrist.”  Daniel nods, showing off his teeth, “Yeah, but Granny Liv isn’t the one you should admire; it’s Great Grandma Susie Walker, the only daughter of Prison Warden John Walker.”  Daniel frowns, noting the stiffness in Jazz's body, “TMI?”

After the talk with Jazz, Daniel heads down to his den; he presses a code sequence into the Grandfather clock.  Stepping back, the clock opens up, revealing an elevator, ‘If Jazz’s reaction to the name Walker is anything to go by, then Phantom must have a bad rep.’  The door opens to reveal the green glow of the den, “SARI, pull up the search engine, and type in Phantom v. Walker.”  Two reports pop up; Daniel clicks the first one; an image shows Phantom holding the Mayor hostage.  The other shows Phantom in a mecha suit fighting alongside Walker against, “Of all beings he could face, why did it have to be you?”

Logince Writer AU

Awhile back, I stumbled across some lovely fanart of a Logince Writer’s AU by @astronomy-is-cute​, and it prompted me to write out a completely self-indulgent bullet-fic-but-not-really of how the pair came to meet. Enjoy? 

Both are seniors at the same college but haven’t had any classes together before, which honestly isn’t that surprising given their different majors

Logan is majoring in neuroscience since it combines two of his favorite subjects – psychology and chemistry. He’s enrolled in a special program where he’ll be able to obtain both his bachelor’s and master’s degree in five years, and this is his final year.

Roman is an English major with a special focus on creative writing. He started out as a theatre major, but halfway through his sophomore year a creative writing elective convinced him to switch majors. He adores acting, but writing offered him a creative outlet he hadn’t been able to resist.

Like all great AUs, they eventually meet in a coffeeshop, called the Jittery Beanery.

Although he is loath to admit it, Logan is NOT a morning person and is barely functional until he’s downed at least half his daily dose of double espresso, so the coffeeshop is his first stop every day (and he schedules all his classes for 10 and later).

While he drinks his coffee, he sets up his workstation in the back corner of the café because the muted bustle of the morning crowd helps him focus. Most of the time he pulls out his laptop and spiral-bound to work on his senior thesis (there’s so much to do!), but other times he just brings some books and his trusty spiral-bound notebook for notes.

Roman has always been a morning person so he doesn’t need the extra boost. However, being the little extrovert he is, he thrives on the early-morning interaction with the baristas and whoever else he manages to charm. Plus, the Jittery Beanery’s caramel lattes are to die for

not to mention that cutie who always sits in the back but that’s not important…

Anyways, after he gets his latte (decaf!), Roman usually sticks around to “work” – he doesn’t usually get any writing done, but seeing all the different people that come to the shop works wonders for his creativity. He always carries a spiralbound notebook with him to jot down any ideas he has (and it definitely doesn’t have a few pages about that cutie in the back but again, that’s not important)

One day, Roman finally decides to try to get to know that quiet little figure because he can’t stop thinking about him because he’s never seen him talk to anyone else and who knows, he might just need a prince to sweep him off his feet!

But you see, his grand plan to woo the other student doesn’t quite go as, well, planned as our poor boy Roman had not known to take into account just how much Logan disdained human interaction first thing in the morning

After about three failed pickup lines and seven dazzling smiles went completely ignored (how tragic!), Roman eventually gave up and retreated to his usual seat near the entrance to recover from the harsh blows of the other man’s stoic silence

The only problem (aside from not getting the cute boy’s number)? In his retreat, he had grabbed the wrong notebook

Neither of them realize the mistake until later that day.

Logan uncovered the mistake shortly after Roman left the café. He picked up the notebook intending to reference a quote he’d written the day before, but instead found an incredibly detailed character sketch. Logan would be falsifying his speech if he said he wasn’t at least mildly impressed by the degree of meticulousness and sheer care the owner of the notebook had shown in their outline of the character’s personality traits and backstory. Although fictional pursuits had never particularly inspired him, he found himself in awe at the dedication illustrated in those pages.

He didn’t spend the rest of his morning immersing himself in Roman’s fictional world… most definitely not. That would have been an illogical use of his time given the amount of his own work he needed to do. No, he definitely focused entirely on his own tasks that morning.

Meanwhile, Roman has been pretty busy with his classes, so he doesn’t have a chance to crack open Logan’s notebook until lunchtime. Once he does? Let’s just say that Roman has never found chemical equations so sexy

Luckily, Logan is a Responsible Student, and he wrote his name and number on the inside cover and Roman definitely didn’t let out a small squeak because holy frick he has his number now

Roman calls Logan soon after finding his number because he can tell this notebook contains a lot of important information the nerd was surely missing dearly by then and not because he wanted an excuse to meet up with him that evening instead of in the coffeeshop the next morning.

Logan answers on the third ring (because of course he has does) with a professional, “Hello, this is Logan speaking” and Roman responds with gusto: “Hello my dear fellow notebook-keeper! I believe I may have accidentally acquired something of yours!”

They agree to meet at a local café that night (surprisingly, Logan proposed the idea – after all, it was only logical that he should get his notebook back before the next morning. It had nothing to do with wanting an excuse to talk to the man who behind such an intricate fantasy world. That particular detail was completely irrelevant to his motivations.)

After this first meet-up (and mutual gay panicking at said meet-up), the two quickly grow close. They each admired the passion the other had for their respective subjects, and they bonded over their mutual love of writing.

They decided to move in together for the next semester, and although they shared certain bad habits (such as staying up way too late to finish “just one more page”), together they helped keep each other a little more accountable when it came to taking care of themselves.

Over time, Logan helped Roman find a new appreciation for the beauty of the natural world, and Roman helped Logan explore new areas, even convincing him to try his hand at writing science fiction.

When Logan finally completed his thesis paper for his Master’s program, Roman gifted him a 100,000 word Sherlock Holmes fanfiction featuring his favorite nerd as Holmes’s partner.

When Roman’s first novel hit the press a couple years later, Logan handed him an envelope with a pair of Broadway tickets to his favorite musical. After the musical, he gave him the rest of his gift in the form of a ring ;)

When I can I treat Wayfinders like a full time job. That helps because then I have my usual working schedule and then I just work away! When I have a job I take small breaks to help Q out, like five min breaks, and work on it in weekends and evenings

So motivation is not a problem. I want to make this story so bad. I want to work creatively on my own stories every every day

I used to be quite motivated by my readers, not wanting to disappoint them by missing updates. But I realized that this was actually causing me a lot of stress and anxiety. Now I'm mainly motivated by strict schedules and habits ("Tuesdays from 8pm-10pm" is my sketch the whole page night, ect). I have a kid now and also work FT so I take my schedules seriously, I cant delay or procrastinate like I used to because I have to balance work and family. On that some note and if Im sick or something I will push the update a day or two and I try not to feel too bad it, your readers will wait. But it did take me years to develop a good work ethic.

Deep same. I do want to see the story come to life for myself as well, but it wouldn't be the same without potential audience engagement. If I were to do this in a total vacuum, I'd probably just do illustrations of my top favorite scenes only.

But it's a little bit more complex than that in practice. Drawing all the scenes enriches my own understanding of/ love for those favorite scenes. It's got the opposite of vicious cycle effect going on.

“Bouquet of Roses”

And last but certainly not least, my lovely Rosaline Fox is finally finished! Like with all our other beautiful roses in the garden, I took the liberty of adding and properly defining details to Rose’s Bouquet gown during her refinement. Such as adding a gown appropriate version of her trademark rose choke collar that you might spot during my earlier squiggle sketches of her. I also gave her a rose in her hair as well since I noticed that I fashioned all the other Roses’ hairstyles with their respective roses except my own so definitely fixed that. Now the set is complete and completely cohesive.

In terms of what's next for the Bouquet: there is a second batch of character designs followed by a couple of illustrations with the full cast. Not much. Just one or two. Keeping it simple but spontaneous.

For those asking if my Bouquet of Roses is a RWBY AU or not; the honest answer to that is that it’s more of a personal fan project based on a tiny premise: Oscar is a golden Rose prince with a bouquet and for every rose in that bouquet, it represents one of the girls in the Garden of Roses inclusive of the canonical Ruby Rose and the fan-made Team FRHR consisting of Rosaline Fox (by me), Rosaline Hood (by @lythecreatorart,) Rosalind Fox (by @che1sea-xiao-long) and Ianthe Regime of Reconciliation (by @miki-13).

And just to further clarify; NO! This is NOT a harem for Oscar. Nothing against harems. This bouquet just isn’t one. It isn’t Oscar dating all five of these girls while the audience is unsure of who he loves. It’s more him being in love with Ruby Rose (as always) and the other Roses are from a multiverse of characters inspired by a Pinehead headcanon where Oscar had another Rose in his Little Prince story besides Ruby. 

This fake Rose doubles as both a rival for Oscar’s affections while also acting as an unlikely ally to help Ruby realize her true feelings for Oscar; all the while both Roses continue to look out for our precious freckled farm boy. I know that was a mouthful to absorb but for better clarification, just read this post right here and you’ll get the full gist.

Back to the Bouquet; you’re more than welcome to see it as an AU if you wish just as much as you’re welcome to create your own fanart and fan-content inspired by it. But speaking for myself, I’m mainly treating this as one small project in a list of Oscar-centric fan art ideas with squiggly RWBY OCs I’d love to contribute to the FNDM and Pinehead community when I can.

This squiggle meister honestly just wanted to draw some fancy fairy-tale inspired dress designs for the Garden of Roses and maybe create some cool art with those designs with a glimmer of a story. Maybe. 

If other designs, characters and illustrations that look like they are telling a story happen to pop up on my blog from this project of mine then ok. But for now I'm going to treat this as I originally planned it to be. 

Just my way to create something cool that’s focused around my favourite RWBY character and my favourite RWBY ship where I get to draw them together with four lovely original characters created by myself and a few friends. This project is meant to be loose and fun and I'm gonna keep it that way until I’ve completed the goal I set out. Let’s see how it goes.

For my fellow Beta-Testers wondering where the refined designs for Whitley and Penny are, don’t worry. They’re coming. Those two will be featured as part of my next batch of refined Bouquet character designs. 

I may even take another crack at drawing our Prince Oscar. I don’t draw my favourite farm boy turned barn prince enough so any excuse to do that is a given. But we shall see. For now I’m just glad to say that Oscar’s Bouquet is finally finished. 

This project started with that first rough sketch with all the Roses together and now all five Roses have been reworked and are looking fabulous.

Looking forward to working on the next set of Bouquet characters. In the meantime, hope you guys have enjoyed following this first phase.

Drawing Fanart- Concept to Finish

Hello! Sorry I have not posted fresh fanart in a while! I just finished my road trip and am working on some cool stuff as we speak!  BUT!  In the meantime, I thought a detailed view of my process would be interesting and maybe even educational to other fanartists using the same software. PS this is a LLOOOONNNGGG Post- sorry.

I use a basic laptop, a Wacom pro tablet, and Clip Studio for my fanart.  The brushes I use will be capitalized.

Concept First I start with a basic idea of what I want out of the image (Pose, clothing, lighting, whatever) then I use the OIL BRUSH and a random color to roughly sketch the idea on a normal layer. Proportions and details come later, with this step I focus only on position and solidifying my ideas.

Skeleton After I throw out a concept blob (or five) I make a skeleton- a rough base of a figure that helps me draw proper proportions and angles.  I do this using the ROUGH PENCIL, usually in bright red, blue, and/or green.

Rough draft In this step I flesh out my skeleton and throw on some features using the ROUGH PENCIL tool. I’m not worried about things looking perfect- I just want that bod to have curves in the right places. Rough draft 2 In this step I add a little more detail, paying careful attention to the hair and face using the ROUGH PENCIL tool. I also mark where my shadows will go and adjust the position or body wherever I feel the need.

Draft This is the final step before the line art.  I go over everything, changing and altering with the ROUGH PENCIL tool until I am satisfied again- at this point I usually step away from the screen and take about an hour long break (reading fics and drinking hot tea XD) This way, when I come back to my work I can see it with a fresh perspective before making everything permanent.  I then adjust the lightness of the draft(s) and turn them all light blue. On a fresh layer I use black to outline EVERYTHING with the MAPPING PEN tool.  I now have my final draft and am ready to start on the line art.

Line art I know it may seem silly to go through the trouble of making a final draft AND line art- but the end result is a lot cleaner. I’m messy by nature, so sometimes I get tunnel vision and forget details that I might have added earlier, the final draft helps me keep those little things organized.   For line art I use a dark brown MAPPING PEN tool to outline my final draft layer (that I turned blue and lightened as well.)  This time, after everything is lined over neatly, I go back and thicken lines where they need it, and also add detail here and there (Like nail color and pupils.)

Base At this point I use the FILL TOOL and fill everything outside of the bodies with a light grey/blue color (adjusting the Close Gap setting as I need to.) I also clean up the spots that are filled, checking every edge to make sure it’s perfect.  This layer stays UNDER the line art layer but ABOVE the color layers.  This layer is made so that I don’t need to worry about staying in the lines/speeds up my work like nobody’s business too. I then open a new Normal layer under this and color it dark grey- this will serve as a base layer.

Base color In this part I use the FILL TOOL to place the very basic colors where they need to be- I then zoom in and make sure that the base is not peeking through any of the main base colors. Also I changed the top light grey layer to a dark pink- that is because the light grey blending in with the hair.

Shading I then use the GPEN tool on a Multiply layer to get my basic shading and detail work in. I will use the SMOOTH WATERCOLOR tool to blend the edges where needed.  I usually end up making at least three layers for the shading. Normal, Multiply, and another Multiply (AT LEAST) I find it is easier for me to go back and fix/redo one layer than have to adjust the entire image.

After I am satisfied with how everything looks I will select the top pink (originally light grey/blue) layer, and using the ERASE ALL tool I will erase everything that is not my bods. Then I will make my Paper layer invisible and save a duplicate image as a PNG. File (so that the background will stay invisible.) Background I open my saved PNG file in a separate window and create or choose a background that suites the image. Once I find the perfect background I add some detail like highlights or shadow to blend it in with my image.

Highlights In this part I like to keep my highlighting soft and bright. I mainly use the SMOOTH WATERCOLOR tool and the SOFT AIRBRUSH tool, depending on the light I want I may also use the DENSE WATERCOLOR tool in places. I usually end up using at least three layers for highlights too (normal, overlay, glow dodge, and glow.)

Effects Here is where I add glitters and sparkles. Also my tag/signature to prevent theft (Something fic writers cant do to their work.)

I wanted you all so see how much effort goes into my fanart- but more than that, keep in mind that my fanart takes half the time that it takes to write a normal length fanfic.  Compared to the thought and effort that goes into writing a fic or a good headcannon, this is nothing but going through process that I have numbered in my head. all I need is a general idea before I get started. I literally only need a blob.

Where fic writers agonize over every word they are about to publish, because those words are their VOICE- something that SHOULD NEVER BE STOLEN OR F*CKED WITH.

So remember that -those who think plagiarism is not a big deal- BECAUSE IT’S A REALLY F*CKING BIG DEAL. DX

Drabble: Modern College AU

“I can put sunscreen on myself, you know,” Hiccup complained as his girlfriend rubbed lotion onto his back and shoulders. Sophomore year of college was finally over for Hiccup and Astrid, meaning that they were back home on Berk. With Berk came the type of peace that New York didn’t seem to have, and the two were enjoying that peace at their favorite beach.

“Stop being stubborn,” Astrid insisted, continuing to run her hands across Hiccup’s lightly freckled back.

“I’m not being stubborn. I’m being independent.”

The blonde rolled her eyes as she slid in front of her boyfriend and started rubbing lotion onto his lightly defined abs that were a result of her dragging him to the gym. Since she was on the school volleyball team, she needed to work out, and there was nothing better than having Hiccup there to work out with her. At first he’d been reluctant, but he eventually came to enjoy it.

“Ast, there’s kids here.”

“Why does that matter? I’m sure their parents do stuff like this. And besides, I’m almost done.” Astrid finished putting lotion on Hiccup, then handed him the sunscreen and turned around. “Now put some on me.”

He rubbed sunscreen onto the bare strip of skin between Astrid’s swimsuit top, which reached the top of her stomach, and her bottoms. He then put some on her shoulders, tummy, and legs. They then both rubbed some on their own faces before rushing into the water.

“Don’t go out too far,” Hiccup said as Astrid swam to a part of the ocean where he knew that his feet couldn’t touch the bottom. He’d never been a strong swimmer, and didn’t trust himself to go too deep in the ocean, as it was always unpredictable.

“Alright, I’m coming back.” The blonde swam over to her boyfriend and wrapped her arms around his neck before leaning in to kiss him.

Hiccup returned the embrace, and followed Astrid’s kiss on the lips with a kiss on the top of her head.

After hanging out in the water for a bit longer, Hiccup suggested that they play in the sand, which Astrid quickly agreed to.

“Let’s make a sand castle,” she said, grabbing the bucket they’d brought with them.

“No, let’s make a sand dragon,” Hiccup gently argued. Being a Norse history major, he was obsessed with the old stories of dragons and dragon training. Since he was a kid, his favorite story had been the one about Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III and his Night Fury named Toothless. That, combined with his hatred of being named Henry, had earned him the nickname Hiccup.

“Alright, sand dragon it is.” Astrid walked to the ocean and filled the bucket, then dumped the water onto the area in which they were working.

“Let’s make a Night Fury,” suggested Hiccup. He began to form the dragon’s head.

“Okay. I’ll start on the feet,” she offered.

In a little over an hour, the Night Fury sculpture was nearly finished.

“I’m just gonna grab some rocks to make him a face,” Hiccup said.

“I’ll help you look.”

The two split up and gathered rocks, then met back at the sculpture to finish decorating it.

“It looks great!” Hiccup exclaimed, stepping back to admire the creation. “Good teamwork.” He gave Astrid a high-five. “Now let’s take a picture.”

“It’s perfect!” Astrid said. “Hiccup, Astrid, and Toothless.”

“I know,” grinned Hiccup. He pulled his phone from his backpack and slid in beside Astrid, who was sitting beside the sand dragon. Wrapping one arm around her, he used the other to take a few photos.

“Okay, babe, I’m gonna go cool off in the water for a minute.” The blonde stood up.

“Hold on, wait for me!” Hiccup called.

“I don’t think so! You’ll just have to catch up!” shouted Astrid before plunging into the ocean, leaving her slightly irritated boyfriend standing on the shore.

Heaven’s Trials Chapter 1: Ignition

Messy brown hair peeked out from under a light blue comforter; which reflected the gentle stream of light that flowed past the slightly opened window. The light made its way to the eyes of the young boy under the covers. With a disgruntled groan Wren pulled the bedding farther up as he tried to hide in the dark nothingness of his bed. He had woken up with a splitting headache, again, and he was trying to relieve himself of the pain until another even bigger headache appeared.

His room-besides the minimal light that attacked his bed-was pitch black. His back wall is smothered in chalkboard paint which he uses as a wipeable pad to sketch and write down his daily schedule and reminders. The rest of his room is covered in posters, book filled shelves, and pictures of fanart, family and  . . . his dad.

Ever since his mom left, his father has been struggling to make ends meet. That was until he was offered a role in an architecture project in India. He left a month ago and entrusted Wren, along with his younger brother Matthew to his older sister Sarah. Which wasn’t too bad, she was one of the most dedicated and hardworking people you could meet, always ready for a challenge and ready to make sacrifices to ensure success.

If it interests her.

Being the twenty something college student she was, she was faced with the challenge of raising two younger siblings, a feat she could never be prepared for. Along with that, she had met her current boyfriend Derrick the year prior, which has only narrowed her focus to supporting him and her schoolwork, leaving Wren to be the one solely responsible for himself and Mathew.

From his bed, Wren could hear the light patter of footsteps to his room. Speak of the devil.

The pounding in his head only escalated when his door slammed open, to reveal his sister. She was dressed in a blue tank top and dark shorts, with her hair pulled up in a high ponytail. She only came into his room whenever she wanted him to do something.

“Wren” she said as she walked over to his bed. “Get up!” She pulled off his comforter and opened his curtain. He whined but got up anyway. God knows what her boyfriend would do to him if he ignored her again. She rolled her eyes at his messy hair but she still dug into her wallet and pulled out a few twenty dollar bills. She handed them to Wren.

“Mathew gets out in an hour. Pick him up from school please.”

Wren took the money with a look of confusion. “Why are you giving me money? I didn’t plan on going anywhere today.”

Sarah tugged at her sleeve. “Derrick is coming today. Why don’t you think of something to do with Mathew for today. At least until 7.”

He now graciously took the money. Neither of them wanted the brothers to be around Satan’s brother, especially right after he finished work. He thanked his sister as she left the room, and he finally jumped out of bed. He decided that taking a shower was probably best , since it was going to be unbearably hot today. The summer heat almost always roasted his skin.

Once he was considerably clean and refreshed, he threw on his favorite white shirt and shorts, along with a pair of comfortable boots. The white shirt was stained and had a small hole at the seams, but he knew Mathew would let out a big smile at the large rainbow rhinoceros posed at the front. It was a Friday tradition, with origins that only Mathew could explain.

He knew he wouldn’t be home until late, so he decided that he should pack a bag for today. He turned to his closet. About a dozen backpacks crowded two small hooks, all from his past school years and travels, and each with their own sentimental significance. He may have a problem.

He decided with his black school bag that he used for the previous school year. It was clean and decent enough. He filled it with his usual summer assigned homework, a water bottle, snacks that he had hidden under his bed, and a sweater for both him and his brother. It was summer, so they might not even need them in the late evening, but being the parental type of person he is, he was always just a bit overprepared. 

 Making sure the coast was clear, he made his way to the door and started walking to his brother’s elementary school. It was only a mile away, but it was enough to tire Wren out as he walked there. His backpack weighed him down as he acted defeated from the rising heat. What would have usually been a twenty minute walk turned into a thirty five minute one.

Finally, he could see the elementary school in the distance. He walked a bit faster in order to find a good place to sit among all the parents. However, he wasn’t paying attention to his surroundings, and he ended up crashing into something, knocking him over with a thud.

“Ugh . . ``he rubbed his side. He had landed on top of something hard, which japped at him.

Something wiggled under him. Looking down he saw that he fell on top of someone with their bag. He freaked out and quickly jumped back up.

“I am so sorry! I-I’ll help you up-”

“It’s fine,” The stranger he knocked over picked up his own bag and fixed his hoodie. That was an odd fashion choice, considering how hot it was, but he wasn’t in the position to judge. He brushed past Wren as he made his way to the school as well. Figuring that the guy was a sports student picking up his sibling, Wren didn’t think much of the bag and continued walking to the school as well, just at a slower pace.

A minute later, he was at the front of the school. He quickly sat down at the only available bench in the shade and waited amongst the other siblings and parents. The bell would ring any minute, and release a wave of elementary-schoolers from its summer programs. He waited anxiously for his brother to be released. The walk gave him plenty of time to think of what they could do for the day. He would take him for some ice-cream. And watch as he created the most unusual topping combination. Then they would walk through the park to the theatre to watch whatever movie they haven’t seen yet. Finally they would browse as many stores as possible to the connected mall until it closed. The perfect day. No surprises.

As he recited the schedule in his head, he didn’t even realize that the bell had rung until he heard the laughter and yells of eighty kindergarteners running through the gate. He stood and tried to catch a glimpse of his brother among the rest of them. He skimmed over them until he spotted the familiar bright red Ironman backpack

“Mathew!” He waved his hands as he tried to get his brother’s attention. He could visibly see his head spring up upon hearing his name, and his little body running toward Wren when he saw him.

“Wren!” Mathew gave him a light hug once he came up to him but quickly pulled back and started digging into his backpack. “Look what I got!”

He pulled out a cheap looking stuffed bear with sunglasses. Its fur (if you could even call it fur) was blue and its stomach has ‘I’m a superstar’ written across it in orange lettering.

“I got reader of the week! Can we go home and put it on the shelf?” Wren took his backpack from him and tied it to his own, a habit he picked up from his mom. 

“Well I was thinking that we have some fun around here before we go home. Is that okay?” He didn’t even need to wait for a whole answer though. Because Mathew was already jumping up and down with the poor bear in his hands.

“Yes that is very okay!”

Wren nodded and placed his hand on Mathew’s back as he  started guiding him away from the crowd. 

That’s when it started.

I keep talking about how I’m gonna do The Art for a living and not posting art or prints or whatever but -- God Damn It -- I want to think this through a little more. I want to set goals that aren’t so big I’ll definitely fail and get discouraged and quit at the gates, or whatever.

So. I know, kind of, what I want to do.

Comics, illustrations, prints. Largely passive income would be great, as I want to work on big projects (comics are huge when you haven’t made one in a while, guys, especially if you’re doing all the writing). Eventually, I want to move into animation. I think I’ll do illustrations first while I’m scripting, as those are smaller projects in comparison to comics and animation.

Prints through RedBubble sound like a good idea, but I wanna look into other shops that are similar. There was one that got permission from a bunch of IP for artists to recreate, print and profit off of the IP so long as certain rules were followed. I think I might look into that again.

Maybe I’ll make YT videos? Videos and streaming are kind of on the fence for me because I’m not... able to split focus enough? Ten dollar commission sketches sound like a good idea if I can fucking focus long enough to finish them. Maybe start small and simple...

I know my ass needs an editor and a manager now. I know I do. I want to pay them to keep my ass on track, because I KNOW that’s going to be a full time job. Someone to help me keep track of all the shit I need to do (I’ll still try, but damn, I know my brain too well by now), and someone to help me keep stories from meandering into shit they shouldn’t meander into. When I write an action-romance fic there shouldn’t be a heavy emphasis on Real Life politics (maybe) unless it’s related to the action-romance story specifically.

Sigh...

Patreon... I think I wanna do that, too, but treat it more as I think the patrons of old might’ve done it? With some adjustments? Like... When people pay to be my patrons, I want them to have agency in what I do, because they’re paying to have my works completed. But I also want to be the one to have the final say. I want to still put up WIPs, pick a subject I really want to work on, so on and so forth. But I also want the people paying for certain tiers to have an amount of say that most others don’t in the process.

Maybe I’ll have three low cost tiers that fulfill the expected Patreon flare: shout outs, behind the scenes peeks, and a thanks for supporting. Then a Mid-tier with more direct say in things: voting on projects probably being the biggest draw here. The last, high-tier will have essentially the position of Actual Patron where we collaborate together for pieces they want to see. They say something like “I want sailormoon fanart of Usagi/Serena in her princess/queen dress with wings” and I throw some thumbs together, they pick the two or three they like, and then it goes down the line to the Mid-Tier patrons who decide which thumb they like best, which gets worked on as the final product and eventually reaches the low-tier patrons so they get to see what’s been worked on and what’s coming in the future.

.... I don’t know, I kind of need to workshop that a bit and figure out the limits of the system for myself and the tiers involved. Like. Make it clear I have the final say in projects, but high-tier patrons get the most immediate input from everyone else. Maybe mid-tier patrons can get a percentage off whatever prints come out, and low-tier patrons get all the Latest News a week or two before everyone else?

*chin scratch*

... I’ve also decided that I want a few simple milestones for each media outlet I submit art to. Like... 10 new followers in two months for Tumblr, Twitter and DA once I get this ball rolling. And once I have a shop open (probably will wait to have 1000 followers total before playing with that idea too much), I’ll try for $100 every month or two and see where that goes.

General consensus from working cartoonists and comic artists is if I can keep my job and still work on art, I should. If I can use the money I make from my art to improve my art, I should. And, in the end, if I can make money, pay my bills and do art full time, I should.

This is... relieving news, because now I have more concrete goals to keep in mind, too. Pay bills being one of them. If I can focus on the smallest bill first, that’ll give me and everyone potentially involved a real scope of where we are in certain goals.

... Okay, so, let’s try and make a list of all this nonsense:

Social Media Goals:

Regular posting; small illustrations within controllable increments (every week or two? Depending on complexity)

100 new followers across all platforms (Twitter, Tumblr, DA) in two months (4-8 new small illustrations at min in relation to posting; possibly more)

Possibly stream and offer $10 sketches on stream? Maybe done once a month to keep things manageable. Funds gained here to improve quality of streams (mic/sound quality, video quality, internet connection).

Gain 1,000 followers across all platforms; revamp and advertise Patreon with $1, $5 and $10 tiers immediately available for supporters. Ideally done within 6 months; expect it done within the year, at best.

Workflow Goals:

At least 4 high quality pieces done at the end of the month; medium doesn’t matter so long as they’re all uploaded and completed.

WIP uploads on instagram? Thumbs, pencils, inks before posting the final piece? (Maybe reserve most of them for Patreon, just to have something for them from the jump.) Break up different mediums in similar, large-step ways. Post at least once a week before pieces are finished.

Friggin... queue posts to accounts if it’s at all possible. Schedule queue a week in advance.

Financial Goals:

Keep the current job, MJ, it keeps you afloat.

Once earning enough to pay for smaller bills plus $300 ish? Find a manager and/or editor to pay them to work once a week for five hours a day to keep this ship afloat. (Having both would be ideal, let’s be real.)

Once rent, bills and pay for manager and/or editor are covered, invest in prints. If Patreon is set up by this point, ask what they want. (ASK, MJ.)

The end goal of this is to eventually start a small business with me and at least four others, depending on how we expand (EX: might need a proper video editor for speed paints, stream recording edits and possible comic promos? An editor for scripts, a manager for all these projects, an assistant for long term art stuff.)

Hire a god damn accountant or something, you don’t know wtf you’re DOING, MJ. LET SOMEONE ELSE DO THIS, YOU FOOL.
