post magic reveal, post magic ban lifted, arthur gets to see merlin in all his glory and somehow falls deeper in love with him than he ever thought possible. merlin who is free and accepted and loved and ecstatic by it all, but there's that thought lingering in the back of his mind that only half of their destiny has been fulfilled. magic has returned to camelot but albion is still fractured in many different kingdoms, many of which are still holding onto the hate that uther spread which is seeping into the very fabric of the earth itself. druids and magic users and even magic creatures are still persecuted all across the realm and yeah camelot opened her arms to them but not everyone trusts it (justifiably).

arthur who is choking on the sheer amount of love he has for merlin and promising himself that he'll tell merlin, he'll confess, even if he feelings aren't reciprocated. merlin will know. merlin who has been chewing on an idea for some time now and is planning on bringing it up to arthur. its night as merlin is dressing arthur for bed and they're both quiet and tense. they break at the same time and end up speaking over one another. arthur allows merlin to go first since his nerves are eating away at him. then merlin speaks of leaving.

arthur feels his nerves rot and decay and fall into a bottomless pit. merlin is rambling about how every magical being in albion is still being targeting by various kingdoms and as the prophesied emrys, magic incarnate, druid king, should he not be doing more to help? he doesn't want to leave arthur's side, but he does want to help his people. he's seen only a fraction of the atrocities committed against them and he wishes to protect them, give them somewhere completely safe, a kingdom of magic so to speak. he promises that he'll only be gone for as long as it takes to establish a kingdom (a year? two? three?) but he promises to write and visit often...as long as arthur gives him permission and allows him to leave his service for the time being.

arthur of course agrees, half unhappy about it but completely understanding. surely, out of everyone, he is the one who can understand the weight of responsibility weighing on merlin's shoulders. he mentions that merlin will need someone with experience wearing the crown to guide him. plus, balance. merlin was always there for arthur, guiding him on how to be a better man, a great king, someone worthy of the praise he constantly spewed. it's only right that arthur gets to return that by helping merlin establish a safe haven and home for his people. and politically, camelot being the first kingdom to recognize merlin's and establish some trade agreement or treaty with them will strengthen merlin's kingdom's status and send a message that camelot stands with magic.

merlin smiles wide and asks what arthur was going to say. the king hesitates before biting his tongue and requesting that merlin bring up the honey cakes that had been prepared earlier that night. two of them. since merlin was no longer in his service, he didn't have to stand by and watch arthur eat - not that he ever did, the idiot loved to steal his food. shamelessly!! he never even tried to hide it. they both sat at the table in his chambers until late in the night, nibbling away at the sweets, chasing it down with wine, and chatting away.

arthur wasn't able to confess, but it did not change his feelings. if anything, merlin's heart and the decision he made only added fuel to the raging inferno of love and devotion within arthur. he knows that merlin will keep in contact and will return to his side one day. he gets through the tough days/nights by rereading merlin's letters and imagining seeing him again in royal garb and donning a crown.

once again rambling about Johnny's sexuality bc i like to psychoanalyze him and the psychology of sexuality specifically is also very interesting to me :]

so as i've mentioned before in this post, Johnny IS sexually active with women to at least some extent (believe it or not that's actually canon / confirmed LOL) — but of course, with my version of Johnny being gay, it's not exactly ideal for him since... yknow. he's gay. but obviously he doesn't KNOW that yet, and so that lack of attraction to the women he sleeps with just doesn't really register for him. he just thinks of it like "yeah this is kinda mid, but i bet EVERY guy probably feels this way right? this is just normal lol!"

so SEX is something that Johnny has some very complicated feelings about. so why does he continue to do it, if it doesn't make him happy? that's because Johnny is... lonely. very, very lonely. and he craves physical affection from another person more than anything — and what better way to achieve that than by... well, yknow? so even though he's not truly attracted to women, at least he's still receiving some form of affection from another human being at all. he's desperate lmao

of course, physical affection doesn't have to just be sexual, either. that can extend to little things — like holding, cuddling, kissing, etc. and he enjoys doing those things to an extent too, especially since a lot of those gestures could also be seen as platonic / non-romantic anyhow. but that's also where his sexuality can also prove to be an issue in his relationships with women too!

with women, Johnny is typically more on the giving end of the affection, rather than the receiving end. he's usually the one holding the woman, he's usually the "big spoon," he's usually the one initiating kisses. which for a lot of people may be all fine and dandy — everyone likes different things. and that's not to say that women can't differ in this regard either! you never know, there's some women out there who don't mind being the big spoon at all for instance LOL. but that just isn't the case the majority of the time, at least not with the women that Johnny has personally been with (which is to say, mostly cis straight women). but what if Johnny actually wanted to be more on the receiving end of the affection...?

essentially, this post right there sums up exactly what Johnny is craving deep down in terms of physical affection. and yet, those physical needs are not being met for him, despite all of his romantic endeavors — because he goes mostly for cis straight women who are on the receiving end of the affection themselves, because that's what's EXPECTED of traditional men & women in heterosexual relationships. like i said, of course anybody can deviate from that norm if they so choose, but that's just the general rule of thumb that's been socialized in most people thanks to gender norms. and gender norms DO play a very big role in Johnny's character & relations. so if it seems like this is playing into a lot of toxic gender stereotypes here... well, yeah! that's the point!

think of it like this: Johnny presents HIMSELF as what he wishes he could have in a partner, which is why i like to say he's very masc4masc (the video in this post can kinda sum that up). he's got big ol' muscles so that he can impress the ladies, but he's also impressed by other men's muscles too. he has big strong arms so that he can hold women in them, and yet he wishes HE could be held. he's typically the one who makes the first move and pursues, but he also wants to be chased & pursued himself. all of the qualities that Johnny prides himself on in terms of being a man & how he pursues women, are all qualities that Johnny looks for in a man himself. but as of right now, he obviously hasn't acknowledged that about himself yet — and so he's playing a losing game by continuing to pursue people who are practically the total OPPOSITE of what it is he really wants.

this is actually something i've observed from the show itself too! any time there's a woman that Johnny TRULY connects with, more often than not that woman is the more "proactive" one of the relationship so to speak. the biggest example would be Heather Asplund from the Valentine's Day special — she is the one who consistently makes the first move on Johnny, initiates physical contact first, gives him gifts, and even shares an interest in fitness/going to the gym, which are all qualities that Johnny seems to be very attracted to.

another example would be Helga — although he was initially hesitant about her, by the end of the episode he comes around and says that she's the "only woman he's ever really loved," all because she shares an interest in WRESTLING. he wasn't attracted to her until he saw her in action on the wrestling ring (and quite literally throwing him around in the process LMAO)

there's a few other examples that i'm too lazy to go and find right now too but i'll save the rest of that for another post some other day lol. anyway here's a bit from my analysis of Johnny from the first episode that also kinda points in this direction!

of course, i wanna clarify that none of this actually means he HAS to be gay, that part is literally just a personal headcanon lol. men can like women with masc traits as much as they want and still be straight as an arrow if that's what their heart desires. but in any case, i just like to tie in both canon facts & headcanons at the same time into my depiction of Johnny, so it's just fun to think about! and i still think it's worth unpacking even if you DO perceive Johnny to be entirely straight, because it shows that there's a lot more to his romantic desires than what's on the surface! he often goes for women based on looks, but all of his truly greatest connections with women are actually more based on shared interests & personality traits! (even though he himself even says in the show, "ugh, Mama, i cant stand it when you set me up with a woman, you go for... PERSONALITY!" or smthn along those lines)

BUT ANYWAY. in terms of MY version of Johnny at least. all of this is mostly to say. if he were to actually confront his sexuality & realize he's gay, he'd be masc4masc and probably a total bottom LMFAO. MANHANDLE HIM!!

Can I just say I love the slow progression of Gary’s hair getting fluffier… like in S1 it looked clean and very taken care of, but only kind of fluffy. In S2 since he doesn’t have the best living conditions anymore his hair is a bit messier and frazzled so it’s fluffier… and I haven’t seen S3 yet but I’m assuming that the pattern continues

As an Ala Mhigan, it's not uncommon for X'kijin to use alternative remedies to ailments. Tea is a common of administering such treatments. One that X'kijin put together himself was catnip tea as a treatment for anxiety.

It took no small amount of time to find the right quantity of catnip to honey and lemon to get the taste right, in large part because X'kijin’s nigh on perpetual exhaustion and laziness... didn't exactly blend well with a tea meant to relax a person.

While the tea can absolutely be drunk by non-Miqo'te and have a similar effect when ingested, it's only Miqo'te that are effected in a way that's... undesirable, given what the tea is meant to accomplish.

While it can relax a Miqo'te after being ingested, smelling the plant can cause an increase in activity, rather than a decrease. Some Miqo'te prove more sensitive to the smell and can achieve that level of activity by smelling the tea itself. When the effect wears off, they crash.

Despite the potential for adverse effects, it's a very effective treatment for X'kijin's husband, who he initially developed the brew for. The taste is stated to be a bit grassy, but hints of mint and citrus the longer it steeps.

There’s something I wanted to make note of since I don’t think most people noticed this.

In one of the cutscenes in Galaxy 1 (the purple coins mission in the gate), Mario finds Rosalina on the starting planet and she says this:

Some people seem to think that she’s referring specifically to the starting planet itself; even the Mariowiki says that she is.

But we know from Rosalina’s storybook that the planet she visits every 100 years is her home planet. And we know because of how the game opens that that planet is the Mushroom Planet.

So what is she talking about then? Well, it isn’t actually visible except for in the very final cutscene obtained by beating Bowser again after collecting every single Power Star, but look!

The Mushroom Planet is actually right next to the starting planet!! When Rosie is talking about visiting “this planet” every 100 years, she’s talking about the one that she and Mario can see from the starting planet: the Mushroom Planet!! It’s really easy to miss this since this final cutscene is the only time the Mushroom Planet is actually clearly visible. Every other time you’re on the starting planet, it’s there but it’s reeeeally dark so you can barely even recognize it.

So basically, the starting planet seems to linger just outside the atmosphere of the Mushroom Planet (perhaps it orbits it like a moon?). That also explains how Mario ends up on the starting planet after being attacked by Kamek in the beginning of the game. It is called the “gateway to the starry skies” because the gate on it connects to the gate on the Comet Observatory no matter where it is in space, “the starry skies”.
