I just knew this scene looked familiar, so I watched Taxi Driver last night and did a deep dive. Did you know Martin Scorsese heavily influenced the editing style in the first season of The Bear?
Scorsese also narrates 3x09 Apologies at the beginning with a sequence of film and magic. The Bear is truly groundbreaking in making TV series look like cinema. There's also a scene similar to dissociation in Raging Bull as the main character is focused on his fist and the ice bucket. (Carmy stares at that ice bucket after the sauce.)
Both Taxi Driver and Raging Bull tell the story of the exercise of control (sublimation a fruedian concept). Pent-up emotions or desires are ideally transferred to a higher good like art. Or one can transfer such pent-up emotions into a more destructive act..

Hi yes I’ve very late to the Glass Onion party but can we talk about how the movie opens with the all four of the fancy boxes being opened so nicely with each little solved puzzle, each layer being peeled back to reveal the center and then we cut to our main protagonist smashing it open with a hammer? And then at the end, Blanc pulls back the layers of the mystery delicately but it’s Helen that literally destroys and smashes the entire mansion to pieces? She was always meant to smash it into pieces. I kinda love that.

Any of y'all seen "A Monster in Paris"? Such a fantastic movie. I think it's gotten quite popular now, but before nobody would really talk about it. It's such an amazing movie tho and I love it so much, probably my favorite childhood movie. And I watched it in English and not the original French audio so I know the English lyrics to the songs (sorry.) Jdhdhe.

watched the substance last night and. hoo boy. that was a TRIP (spoilers in tags)
#first of all. demi moore and margaret qualley ate their roles harder than dennis quaid ate those shrimp#my mouth was just hanging open for the last 30 minutes like. holy fuck#i watched it with my friend who also love gross body horror and we were both completely silent during that time#i don't think either of us even moved once monstro elisasue came out#5/5 would absolutely recommend#i really love how it doesn't try to be subtle at all too#like. it beats its message into you with a hammer the whole time and it WORKS#i appreciate a story that doesn't try to be subversive or subtle. like those are great things to do!#but there's something so chef kiss about a piece of media that just. hits you over the head with itself#i think it worked really well with the substance too bc like. its ideas are not new#everyone knows hollywood chews women up and spits them out full of self-loathing and insecurity#but man. they really dialed it up to 11. and seeing that kind of story told in such a disgusting manner did exactly what it was supposed to#god. and the gasp i guspt when i realized it was ONLY the women standing up and screaming at elisasue in the theater??#You Are Not Immune To Propaganda babes!!!!#god. what a film#anyway go watch the substance it's on mubi whatever the fuck that is
