BACKSTORY:
I was born in Lyon as the eldest of triplets, the children of British traveller and writer Robert Allard and French model and photographer Élisabeth Tessier.
Less than a year after we were born our father was offered the chance to host a travel programme called The Strider for the BBC. Together with our mother they decided to take me and my siblings on those journeys.
Since then, we have spent more time on the road than in our home in France. Together, we have explored Australia and Northern Europe, both Americas, and a good part of Africa.
Despite the unusual conditions, our parents took great care of our education and development. I had private tuitions, practised ballet and singing, learned to play a few instruments. During those travels, I aslo learnt about the culture and traditions of the countries we visited and learnt a couple of languages.
We have settled in the USA for a few years where my siblings and I finished high school. It was then that I met my best friends to this day; Judy and Kayleigh. I later got into Harvard, where I studied psychology and linguistics.
I got my first role - Gertie in E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial - at the age of six; I went to the audition out of curiosity. Later I also played the young Alia Atreides in Dune, but I didn't tie my future to acting. My love for it was born in the high school drama club. My return in front of the cameras was the 1990 film Millie, but it was with the role of Lex Murphy in Jurassic Park, which I got at the age of seventeen, that I was truly noticed. Other productions followed and with them came increasing success and popularity.
At the beginning of the university, I began to take interest in music - my first album, The Woman Who Love Too Much, was released in 1994 and it quickly became clear that I was as talented an actress as I was a singer.
At age of twenty I move alone to cottage house near Zurich.
LIKES: strawberries, misty and rainy weather, incenses and scented candles, cold pizza, winter mornings, sweets, the sea, spices, nightly baths in the lake, self-care days, the wind in my hair when I'm horse riding, forests, long walks, fireplaces
DISLIKES: arrogant people, feelings of lack of control, violence, hot weather, loud noises, bright and cool light, being sick, small and closed spaces, peanut butter, chlorine smell
* For the year 1998, to which I'm shifting to,
** Self-scripted roles/films

Disney 100 ✨🏰🤍
Wishing you all a happy new year and to Disney, a belated 100th anniversary! 🎉
To celebrate Disney’s century milestone, I created an illustration based on 100 of Disney’s most known and loved characters from their respective movies/ series. I’ve included all the ones I’ve known and feel are generally popular but I’m sorry if your personal favourites aren’t here.
This has been in the works for almost four months now but due to many delays I couldn’t finish it on time. So here it finally is!
Out of all these range characters, the hardest to draw was the Cars. I’m not used to drawing cars so I’m not generally good at them (yet). Some of these may look simple and easy to draw but trust me, they’re not 😂.
With drawing the characters and the background, I like to be accurate with the respective style it’s drawn/ animated in and the colours too. But also I wanted to also simplify the 3D ones and add a little depth using shadow to the 2D ones. For example some of these films would have a desaturated grainy effect to it and I wanted to keep that. But finally after months of working on it, it’s completed and I’m happy with it! ✨.
Please, please do check it out on Instagram too:
instagram
If this link doesn't work, my username is @/artofzafrasarfraz - it's where I put all my drawings up on. Please do share on stories and comment. Much appreciated 🥹🫶🏼🤍

Comments from DataLounge...
The video is so stagey and artificial.
It reminds me of nothing so much as a television ad for a medication--all it needed was a smooth jazz soundtrack and for an announcer to list possible dangerous symptoms after taking the medication.
Did you catch my “I’m just an innocent little girl happy to be with her loving family” act?
Pretty convincing, right?
Thanks for your support.
Here’s to a brighter tomorrow.
Agree with R13. The video is the moving image equivalent of Canva-generated "graphic design" for frauen who own hand-made candle shops. Or Taylor Swift's "Folklore" album.
The ending wasn't ominous. The woman doesn't want to go back to work full time, ever. Now she has the perfect excuse in perpetuity. The pointlessness and fakery of it probably gave her cancer in the first place.
You think raising two future Kings, a hyperactive brat and a pint-sized psychopath isn’t work?
Nice free trips for treatment, I drove myself to each and every treatment, just for spreading her legs for a good for nothing. Aren't we beyond this
They played this all wrong from the very beginning and then used cancer as a way to get out of the hole they dug for themselves and guilt people into feeling bad for questioning the way they handled this. All they had to do was follow Charles' example, but they didn't.
What is the point of discussing your cancer diagnosis and recovery but yet refusing to disclose the kind of cancer you have. The royal family are such weirdos to a degree. King Charles isn’t but the kids are. Shit is fkin weird and borderline offensive.
R59 But then why discuss it at all. What shame is there in the public knowing what type of cancer you have as we are championing and cheering for a rousing successful recovery. It could make someone having the same type of cancer have more hope. That’s because there is some type of pretension behind it and she probably got cancer from Prince William being a whore.
Anyone know if there is a GoFundMe page?
Glad she’s recovered. And that her sweet kids seem to be coping. Clearly she won’t be doing too much in the future beyond attending the mens Wimbledon final and her Christmas concert.
But that video is awful with the cheesy costume changes and organised frolicking. It’s like a commercial for a feminine hygiene product made to air on the Lifetime networked and edited with Canva.
In my eyes, Catherine, Princess of Wales hasn't set one high-heeled, nude color pumps foot wrong. I'm one of her biggest DL stans.
So, it's saying something when I agree with r13, r23, r62.
I think it would have been so much more effective if she had gone back to the same setting of where she announced her cancer and just as forthrightly said what she said here.
I enjoy cheapo Hallmark and Lifetime moves, the cornier, the better, but I don't want the same effect from a Kensington Palace announcement.
I'm surprised Catherine OK'd this, unless the presence of William and the children is meant to divert from more serious stuff that they absolutely want to keep private.
That's the only explanation I can think of for releasing this awkward treacle.
A few comments from the British peanut gallery:
Mawkish. I find it gross and insulting to the enormous health inequalities and struggles millions face. Nothing inspirational or touching about it at all.
I was waiting for William to say something really cringy while giving Kate a piggy back ride.
Oh my! It feels like an advert to join a cult, or for sanitary products in parts.
It’s an absolute self indulgent wank fest.
The video looks like the Twilight films.
Are William and Kate Scientologists now?
I think it was a “soft” way,of indicating to the public that she won’t return to public duties in the same way again. ----So she's going to do even less than before? Good grief.
R72 But you aren’t a public figure. They are releasing videos to be seen for mainstream consumption. There IS a difference.
R77 The British peanut gallery is right. This video is so tone death.
[quote]Why do you need to know?
No one needs to know. But notice how no one knows what type of cancer Charles has, but he's not getting the same kind of smoke. It's called understanding how to deal with the public and not whatever the fuck is going on at the Wales house.
King Charles is not milking his cancer the same way and he is 80 something years old. They are just so fraudulent and fake.
Here’s a little starter for those of you new to the “Die, Kate, die!” threads:
She is obviously wearing one of those new Post Chemo Thinned Hair Look wigs - she’s completely bald under there.
My neighbor’s veterinarian’s fuck buddy just finished chemo and looks terrible - it’s all a ploy for sympathy. There’s nothing wrong with her.
The whole family except Kate is wearing her signature color of blue. Coincidence? I think not! She is signaling either her imminent demise or divorce. Or both.
No skinny jeans for Kate in this video - only loose dresses. Can you say “permanent colostomy bag”?
Just found one site that said she had 90 public engagements in 2022. That means she had 75% of days of the year with zero public engagements. (or more than 75%, assuming some days had more than one stop...)
So "stepping back" from that low level of work is extreme privilege no matter how one looks at it. I don't begrudge her but she is not exactly hand in hand with the vast majority of cancer patients who still have to worry about paying the bills.
Campaigning for more paid leave and other support for ALL cancer patients might be a good project for her in the future.
R118, careful there! I said something similar in one of the other Kate threads and got ripped a couple new assholes.
[quote]So "stepping back" from that low level of work is extreme privilege no matter how one looks at it.
The Princess of Wales is extremely privileged??
**gasps in shock and surprise**
They released an overly produced three minute video. We are allowed to critique it. She could have sat on a bench and read a statement. Her choice.
I don’t think the video is that bad and I don’t think it’s receiving heavy criticism. I think it was designed for a fawning audience, and it shows.
[quote] I didn't like the part in the video where William is straddling her on the blanket and kissing her on the neck. That was tacky.
I missed that part. Straddling her is over the top.

Through festive food, drinks, and games, she revitalizes the bar, bonds with Jay, and finds the courage to pursue her true calling. They decide to help him remember who he is by inviting him to participate in the intense Santa training program. Thankfully, Abby finds a room at a quaint B&B, owned by Tom Maguire (Brotherton), who is also a high school astronomy teacher. Since his wife’s passing, Tom has taken on a lot of extra responsibilities, including running the inn and directing the local church’s Christmas pageant. Unsure how to handle the situation, she crosses paths with Max (Winner of Finding Mr. Christmas), a dog shelter owner. Mia agrees to let Max's ailing dog find solace with her newfound companion, in exchange for Max showing her the hidden gems of Seattle. Through their journey together, they both step out of their comfort zones, discovering new perspectives and forming a meaningful connection."
Note: This is my note here, but she's back. This is the first Hallmark movie Jessica Lowndes has done since she signed an exclusive with Great American Family. Guess her contract is up.

daphne kluger is the result of selina's first and most significant long-con. none of the following exists in any capacity besides within selina's impeccable ability to adhere to a lie and alana stark's impeccable ability to help her perpetuate them.
daphne was born in belleville, kansas, daughter of john and maria kluger, a bouncing baby girl with a pair of gorgeous doe eyes and a 'headstrong' disposition. little is known about daphne's early life, save for the fact that she was orphaned as a teenager due to an incident that left her with an innumerable menagerie of scars and burns. daphne was discovered not long after, wormed her way into the hearts and onto the television sets of adoring citizens the world over. she quickly earned the title america's sweetheart.
(this is, of course, the result of an extremely well-fabricated series of falsified photos, a half-finished memoir ghost-written by alana stark, innumerable 'home movies', a lifetime of deep fakes to build a person that selina embodies on a very public scale.)
daphne is known as the media darling anyone would clamor to represent or interview. while she is extraordinarily private for a star of her caliber, daph never shies away from make a wish appearances (those in particular), has been openly outspoken about her disappointment in the industry, written several op-ed pieces about her own experiences, and will regularly get into a twitter fight about anything. she refuses to accept a blue checkmark and would rather die. she changes her name constantly for this reason. working with daphne is an almost definite award nomination of whatever sort you're looking for -- she brings out the best in those opposite her, but not without working you to the bone and forcing you to reevaluate everything about yourself and the world around you.
her current residence is the plaza hotel, penthouse suite, new york, ny.
(holly had been madly in love with eloise at the plaza, and with new york barely more than an hour from gotham, selina had been both keen and ecstatic to give holly the experience. it's a little girl's dream and nothing would stop the cat from making that come true.)
daphne kluger is notoriously single and known for being extremely reluctant to allow anyone into her personal life. public knowledge about her is scarce, but it comes down to only a few facts: she can't have her own kids, she was in a vague accident that caused her grievous bodily harm and orphaned her in her teenage years, her father was abusive, she has never dated anyone for any significant span of time nor shown any interest in the subject, she is a natural blonde.
the infamous heist of the toussaint cartier necklace and all the crown jewels occurred from around daphne's gorgeous neck -- the heist that was calculated by selina long, long before the met gala was ever in sight. the arrival of deborah ocean and her team forced daphne to join them in order for the job to go smoothly. debbie is unaware that daphne is selina kyle, and knows nothing of the catwoman outside of the extremely rare times they've been in proximity to one another in around the same building.
daphne is an invaluable part of debbie's team, though she went into retirement after the toussaint's heist and has not been seen since.

The books I read while clinging to sanity by my fingertips. I didn't get enough read during either month to warrant their own posts, I was just too busy and way too stressed, so here's my November and December reads combined.
The Animal Rescue Agency: Cast File: Little Claws
I’ve been on an Eliot Schrefer kick, though so far I haven’t read anything that topped Queer Ducks for me. This was a very cute youth novel about the dashing Esquire Fox, who runs the Animal Rescue Agency, who are sworn to help any animal in need. In this first case, Esquire — and her fussy rooster friend, Mr Pepper — find themselves adventuring out into the arctic to rescue a baby polar bear from a sinister poacher.
The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse
I’ve seen this book celebrated but didn’t really know much about it. I bought it on a whim, wanting something cosy to read, and it delivered. It’s a collection of little passages that form a loose narrative, and is centred around being a positive, uplifting view of life. It occasionally feels a little trite, but ultimately if you’re willing to take it for what it is without being overly critical, it was a very charming experience. It has an old-fashioned Winnie-the-Pooh vibe, and the artistry of each page is lovely, so combining that with very gentle and loving affirmations it makes a nice book to sit under a blanket and read on a rainy day.
Chitty Chitty Bang Bang
My mom found her old, original copy of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang from when she was a kid, and since this was something I had been meaning to read for years I decided now was the time. You can definitely see Ian Fleming’s fingerprints all over it — who doesn’t love a cool, gadget-y, semi-sentient car in a battle against horrible mobsters? Add some explosions, a bit of flying, and a sweet shop theft, it really is a fun little adventure. Very different from the film, but both are good in their own unique ways.
A Christmas Carol
I love reading a Christmas novel in December but it was way too busy for me to do anything new or complex this year, so I decided to reread A Christmas Carol. You really can’t go wrong with it, Dicken’s turns of phrase and the way he portrays humanity is wonderful and it just pulls you right in. It’s such a quick, fun read that I really do recommend anyone who enjoys the films to give it a try — it’s not as intimidating as it might seem.
Failed Princesses v6
Finally, the last volume of the series! It was very overdramatic but in a quintessentially shoujo way. If you’ve ever wanted an almost cliche shoujo, but with lesbians, then this is the series for you. It starts with two very different girls — a prep and a nerd, essentially — finding themselves pushed together and slowly developing a friendship as they try to understand the other’s point of view and way of living life. As the series progresses, so do their feelings for one another.
Fortunately, the Milk
An absolutely hilarious novella about a father and his excuses for being a little late getting home from the shop with the milk his kids need for breakfast. Obviously it’s not because he got chatting with a friend, no, he was definitely dedicatedly on his way home, absolutely determined to save his children’s milk-less breakfast, only to be abducted by aliens… and it gets sillier from there. A very fast, very adorable read; it had me grinning the whole way through.
The Original Adventures of Hank the Cowdog
This was a series I remember loving as a kid but haven’t seen since. I stumbled across the first book again and decided to see if it stood up to what I remembered. In some ways it very much did! It’s about Hank, a cowdog who takes his job as Head Of Ranch Security very seriously… but unfortunately does have the intelligence of an average dog and more often than not gets himself into a lot of fuss and bother. It’s a fun mystery adventure, written to mimic a jaded private eye and the humour that a child might miss comes through for any adults reading it. Unfortunately, they’re portrayal of First Nations oh, sorry, I mean coyotes, is seriously very, very uncomfy. Like, deeply racist. So… probably wouldn’t recommend, leave it as a childhood memory.
Nintendo Adventure Books: Leaping Lizards
My brother has an old copy of a Nintendo choose your own adventure book so we decided to sit down and play it over the holidays. Written in the Super Mario Bros 3 era, this book is just completely buckwild, and the results of your choices are completely bizarre. Did it make sense? No. Was it well written? Also no. Did we laugh a lot while reading it though? Yes, it was a blast.
Orphaned
More Eliot Schrefer. This story is about a young gorilla named Snub, who lived back in prehistoric Africa and had never seen a human before… until catastrophe strikes and she finds herself separated from her family and forced to care for her little brother as these strange human creatures stalk the trees. But when Snub sees the humans violently cast out one of their own, she has a challenging decision to make. Schrefer really seems to know what he’s talking about when it comes to animals, and I like how this book is handled. It’s not a “talking animal” book, and he does a great job of portraying the world as a young gorilla like Snub might perceive it.
My Father’s Dragon
It’s been turned into a Netflix film, so of course I had to go find the book before watching the movie. The book was charming, and had that very classic 1940s kidlit vibe. Did not bother explaining any of the weirdness, just a had a fun time taking you on an adventure to Wild Island, where the narrator’s father sets about with only his cunning and a strange mishmash of supplies to try to rescue a young dragon who had been enslaved by the other animals.
Prince of Song & Sea
I was hesitant about this book — I was never a huge Little Mermaid fan and every Disney prequel, sequel, triquel is wearing on me — but I’m pretty much willing to follow Linsey Miller wherever she intends to go. And I was pleased that I did. This book focuses on the story of Disney’s Little Mermaid as told from Prince Eric’s point of view, but with a bunch of new world building and twists built into it. In this version, Ursula is a much more pervasive and threatening force, and Eric has to figure out how to protect his little kingdom from encroaching threats, fend off the increasing pirate threat, and deal with his own curse that is related to his mother’s early death. Honestly, my main complaint is that it is inherently Disney. The weakest parts of the book came from Miller’s interesting characters and lore bump up against the “pre-rendered” Disney scenes — they didn’t always mesh that well and it left me floundering occasionally. Honestly, it made me wish this was just a pure re-imagining without the movie baggage at all. But! I can’t fault anyone from getting that ~*Sweet Disney Money*~ and I honestly don’t think anyone could have handled this better. I enjoyed reading it.
The Hound of the Baskervilles // The Return of Sherlock Holmes
Well, my last month has been, in a world, hell. So we’ve returned to the ultimate comfort media: Sherlock Holmes. I reread Hound and The Return of Sherlock Holmes and I’ll probably be continuing with this into the New Year because my personal hell doesn’t look like it’s gonna let up any time soon.

Jolie dazzles Venice festival with biopic on opera legend
Angelina Jolie arrives for the premiere of the film “Maria” on Aug. 29 at the Venice film festival.
For Angelina Jolie, portraying the famed opera singer Maria Callas meant more to her than she can put into words.
“I felt such a privilege to feel like I got to know this woman and got to be inside her skin a moment. I really care for her deeply,” Jolie said a few hours before the film’s world premiere at the Venice International Film Festival.
“I think I’ll carry that like a friend.”
Chilean filmmaker Pablo Larraín called on Jolie to take on the role as the legendary soprano in “Maria,” which was recently acquired by Netflix for distribution.
The film focuses on the final week of her life in 1977 in Paris.
She is deeply isolated, with only her butler (Pierfrancesco Favino) and housemaid (Alba Rohrwacher) looking after her — concerned about her health, the drugs and the devastating effects of her diminished voice.
Larraín continues to explore the lives of very famous women with tragic narratives attached to them.
In 2016, he came to the festival with his Jackie Kennedy portrait, “Jackie,” starring Natalie Portman as the first lady in the aftermath of her husband’s assassination.
In 2021, he returned with Kristen Stewart playing Princess Diana as she considered divorce over the Christmas holiday in “Spencer.”
Both films earned their lead actors Oscar nominations.
“Maria” is the conclusion to this trilogy of historical women, though Callas may be a bit less known to younger generations who weren’t around for the headlines and scandals.
Born Maria Kalogeropoulos to Greek parents in New York, the singer made her professional debut in Athens as a 17-year-old.
During her brief life she became one of the greatest opera singers of all time with her unparalleled voice and stage presence.
But the accolades also came with the intense scrutiny of her life in the public eye, whether it was her exacting demands and “diva” behavior, her weight or her romantic life.
Callas famously had a relationship with shipping magnate Aristotle Onassis who left her for Jackie Kennedy.
She died in Paris at age 53 after a heart attack.
“When I put her big glasses on and her Greek hair, and I sat in my little robe as an older lady, I felt a (Maria) that felt like the private (Maria) that the world didn’t know,” Jolie said.
“And I connected to her first and kind of loved her.”
Jolie trained for nearly seven months to prepare for the role.
The singing in the film is a blend of actor and the real thing.
“My first days, (Larraín) was very good to me in that we started in a more intimate first with very few crew members,” Jolie said.
“And we ended at La Scala with everyone. So I had a little time to get my nerve. But this is the hardest thing I’ve ever done. I was terrified.” Larraín said it was “the only way to do it.”
“Opera requires a very particular style of singing — in the pitch, the color, the breathing, the posture,” he said.
“Sometimes it’s a tiny bit of Angie and mostly Maria and then sometimes it’s more, but it’s always there. We needed to do that because it’s the only way that she could properly prepare the character, play it right and then create the right illusion.”
Jolie has twice been nominated for acting Oscars.
She won for her supporting role in “Girl, Interrupted,” and was last nominated for her leading role in Clint Eastwood’s “Changeling.”
Netflix has not announced specific release plans for “Maria,” but Jolie’s performance already has awards buzz.
In a news conference at Venice, Jolie was asked if there were surprising ways she related to Callas.
“There’s a lot I won’t say in this room that you probably know, or assume,” Jolie said.
But, she feels they do both share a softness and a vulnerability. It’s been three years since Angelina Jolie appeared in a movie, though she’s been making a retreat from stardom for a lot longer than that, pulling back pieces of herself from the public sphere as well as from the persona she projects onscreen.
Gone are the days of the blood-vial-wearing wild child or the bombshell whose chemistry with co-star Brad Pitt in Mr. & Mrs. Smith made their coupling up feel inevitable.
As a celebrity, she has stripped sex from her image entirely, emphasizing instead her identity as a filmmaker, a human-rights activist, and a mother of six.
As an actor, she has voiced a tiger in the Kung Fu Panda franchise as often as she’s actually appeared onscreen over the past decade, and in the live-action films she has taken on, her roles have increasingly been defined by her character’s aloof beauty and elegant suffering.
I can’t begrudge Jolie her desire to armor up and put more layers between herself and a public that’s been ingesting the intimate details of her life since she was scarcely old enough to legally drink.
But I also can’t deny that I’ve found this Madonna-martyr phase of her career less than compelling.
At her best, Jolie is thrilling, a talent capable of bursting into the frame and making you believe she’s about to devour the world whole.
In her more recent roles, even when running headlong through a raging forest fire, she feels only half there.

wow! That was such an enlightening and beautiful answer to my question, thank you so very much, and congratulations on graduating soon🎉! I felt that same thrill of recognition seeing the people and their homes on the show, because yes poverty really is the same all over. I live in a blue collar town in northeast America, with forested hills instead of wetlands and logging instead of fishing, but I look at their clothes, at the places they hang out, at the porches and lawns filled with clutter and machine parts nestled between the trees, at the small dark house interiors, and I think "this all could've been filmed down the street from me." It must look depressing to others but I find comfort in the familiarity. We're all just surviving as best we can nestled in the detritus of abandoned industry and reclaiming nature, keeping our lives manageably small with little daily tasks and rewards, and beyond our town limits the land itself infinite as space. I guess that bigness is what sets apart American life, thousands of people go missing in the wilderness every year and it's just taken as a given. There's a whole plane that crashed in a Vermont forest in the 80s which I believe still hasn't been found. One thing not shown onscreen, and I don't mind this since true detective is a horror drama and it wouldn't fit the tone, are the threads of community we maintain—church suppers, family game and movie nights at the library, small town festivals, Christmas tree lightings in the square and such. Life is a patchwork of privation and joy.
One thing I will advise you about if you come here (welcome btw) is picking the state with the best resources for you. Montana is gorgeous but the New England states have the best healthcare, and the east coast in general has the most public transit with our trainlines. If what matters is the job than you can visit anywhere I guess, but outside of the cities you better have a coworker/host with a reliable car willing to drive you around, because otherwise you will be stuck and lonely in the miles between anywhere. We joke about Rust being a passenger princess but bumming rides is a way of life here. Other than that, don't whistle at night in the southwest, always being more money than you think is needed to the store, look up any Indigenous nation near where you stay to maybe visit their cultural center, and have a good time!
hi again! so sorry for taking this long to respond, I've been busy with school and other shit, you know how it is
america is such a fascinating and complex place fr, and the negative aspects of it you mention were never shown in the media i (and may other europeans) consume. we're fed this image of this perfect land of the free american dream you can achieve anything if you work hard enough self made man kind of thing. but I'm glad to hear that you have this community - in my experience, that is not really the case here. i hardly ever talk to my neighbors (occasional good mornings and that about it), i don't go to church, but the people who do also don't really know one another, people only every talk to their family members and friends from places like school and work. i feel like in this aspect we could for sure learn from y'all.
when i do come visit I'm pretty sure it wont be permanent (unless chevy does actually wife me, then who knows). i just want to get a taste of that cowboy life i crave so much. i want to see the national parks (hope i don't go missing) and spend some time in the Space of it all. I am aware of the lack of public transport and i am prepared to drive everywhere, but thank you for the heads up. i also know about tax not being included in prices of stuff - which, what the fuck. that's so stupid. same with tipping - why not just pay workers living wages? I will for sure be taking the time to visit the Indigenous people in the places where I'll be staying. I'm actually writing my master's thesis about the Anishinaabe and Inuit people, and even though my area of focus is canada I'm sure I'll learn a great deal from the Indigenous people of the us as well.
thank you again for talking to me (and for your patience), and I'd really love for you to come off anon, be it in my dm's or under this post. I'd love to talk more about the show in general or just cultural issues. but no pressure!

Ghosts of Holiday Movies Past
I will fully admit these movies lean very white and exclusively Christmas and this year I’m going to do better. But for now, here’s some old favorites as the new batch of trash makes its way to us.
I’m also going to try to be consistent with rating the movies on a scale of 1 to 5 Winter Coats, and include any relevant cast info.
Christmas Inheritance (Netflix): From Wikipedia: The film features Taylor as a spoiled New York City heiress sent to a small New England town with limited resources to test if she's ready to take over her father's company. When circumstances strand her, her experiences with the townspeople gives her a new perspective on life and her privilege, while also leading to romance with the local inn manager.
This is definitely the “rich big city girl goes to a small town and learns to bake and care about more than status” trope with a Billy Madisonesque twist. Will the small town “hottie” who’s still nursing a broken heart help her learn the true spirit of giving? Will she prove she’s responsible enough to take over the family business? Fuckin’ A! This is the quintessential Hallmark-style movie we’re used to, down to the asshole rich fiance who shows up and insults everyone and the town for literally no reason.
An absolute comfort watch with some questionable plot points (your wife asked for a divorce while Silent Night was playing and now you freak out every time you hear it? Get on meds, sir), so I’m giving it 4/5 Winter Coats.
The Knight Before Christmas (Netflix): I have no idea why people shit on this movie. I mean it’s absolute fucking nonsense but picturesque and soothing. A knight is sent to the future to fulfill a quest and the quest is... kissing Vanessa Hudgens? Are you shitting me? Whatever, I’m here for Vanessa’s sweaters and Nancy Myers-like house. The end teased a potential sequel and all I can say is “fuck” and “yes.” Perfect movie to watch while high because it’s just completely off-the-rails dumb. Also a great option if you need something on while Grandma or a small child is visiting. Real utility player.
And when did Vanessa Hudgens become the queen of Netflix Christmas Movies? This AND The Princess Switch trilogy? Sleigh all day! 5/5 Winter Coats because honestly the coats and winter clothes carry this movie.
Christmas Wedding Planner (Netflix): An up-and-coming wedding planner is tasked with planning her cousin’s high society Christmas Eve wedding. Exes and a private investigator are involved, of course. Full disclosure: I could only stomach maybe 10 minutes of this before I had to turn it off. Over usage of narration is a pet-peeve of mine (show, don’t tell!) and I’ve seen better acting in D.A.RE. skits in middle school. Even the wardrobe is embarrassing. I don’t mind cheesy but this is painful. One of my requirements for these movies is that everyone in it not look like they are participating under extreme duress. I can only assume all the actors had to do this or their families would be murdered.
Side note: a lot of these movies really make it sound like Christmas weddings are a totally normal thing and in my 44 years on this planet and zillions of weddings I’ve been invited to I’ve never been invited to one on Christmas. Readers, please weigh in!
0/5 Winter Coats and I don’t think wine or weed could change that.
Next up: Falling for Christmas and Christmas with You

late night thoughts: volume 1
none of you know me very well and I create some of your pre-bed time scenarios, so I thought I'd give you some really really random facts about me whilst I work on my many many many drafts. If you have any questions ask below! Although there are some things I would like to keep private for privacy reasons 💀 :)
- I am fluent in multiple languages! sometimes if I'm using one language for a period of time and then switch to another, I would mix words up and it's very funny when people don't understand me.
- Usually little girls would love to be a princess or a hairdresser, right? well my little self wanted to be a (as I called it) a racecar driver...... but in normal terms: a formula one driver. I don't know what was going through my head but I was obsessed. stealing my older brothers toy cars from when he was younger and wanting a go-kart for Christmas was normal to me and I often got made fun of for it. That dream would still be ideal today but I have more practical aspirations for my future now which is very emotional for me. :( I loved Daniel Riccardo he was literally my idol (+ vettel and Alonso!!!). My obsession was so hardcore that I refused to watch princess films and play with Barbies. I received a Rapunzel doll for my birthday when I was eight and took off her dress and coloured a race suit onto her with a sharpie. It was very creative to be fair.
- every relationship and friendship (besides my brother ily smelly) I have been in ever has been toxic and tore me down, my luck is so kind to me right? don't pity me or I swear- I was little and didn't know better. THE POINT IS my online friendships worked out so much better so I value you all so so so much honestly<3
- don't laugh at me please but when I was younger I had a crippling fear of the Simpsons..........they were scary ok?
- I have a dog!
- Christian bale isn't my only celebrity crush but that's not shocking I don't think.
- batman isn't my favourite superhero. shocking? he's one of my favourites but not in the top five. he is definitely the most attractive one, but as a character I prefer marvel characters :)
- i.am.a.sucker.for.romance.
- favourite..
superhero: super potato from Peppa pig. who else?
movie: the dark knight and whiplash (couldn't recommend enough, honestly)
tv show: ben and holly (I ❤️ Gaston). fuck Daniel Riccardo^^, Gaston is my idol
colour: RED WHEN I TELL YOU I LOVE RED- OMFG. I like purple too
food: grapes. theyre so random but I love the purple ones.
person: my best friend's mom. he knows I prefer her over him and feels so loved by me 💀 idk why I love her sm but I do. ur mom jokes are daily for us because of this.
animal: my older brother ❤️ he's the smelliest pig.
song: you know I'm no good ( and that whole album) by Amy Winehouse is my current hyperfixation but I love harry styles :) basic ass bitch I know but the arctic monkeys are in the mix too!
- I am literally the best at mario kart. like nobody can beat me for real, my mom and dad would play with me and my brother and I would always beat them no exceptions.
- I am literally -like I said a second ago- the most basic biatch. you know that one aesthetic that's like nerdy but in a Pinterest way? like loving taylor swift, marvel, books, Lana del Ray, music, Gilmore girls, the arctic monkeys and star wars? that's literally me. not that the arctic monkeys, Taylor or anything are nerdy but you know what Im trying to say? sorry if u don't HAJAJAHAHHA
- I cannot let my room become untidy. it's just a thing. I can't function in a slightly messy room, let alone a monstrosity that looks like an alien space ship crashed into my house. it irritates me because I constantly find myself cleaning and reorganising.
- I dont know why I got the urge to write on here, I never wanted to be an author growing up but I just thought it would be fun.
- I literally don't know what else to tell you😭 I'll edit this whenever I think of somat to add hehe.

The complete list of films featured in 2021′s “31 Days of Oscar” marathon
What follows is the exhaustive list of all 403 short- and feature-length films featured on this blog over the last thirty-one days for the 31 Days of Oscar marathon. This number is up from last year’s count of 327 and is the second-highest number of films I have ever featured in this marathon (behind the 410 films from 2016). Despite the number, this remains only a fraction of the nearly 5,000 films that have been nominated for Academy Awards. This year’s marathon was harder to plan than usual due to the fact it was presented in alphabetical order - with the exception of any write-ups I did.
BREAKDOWN BY DECADE 1927-1929: 7 1930s: 44 1940s: 63 1950s: 63 1960s: 46 1970s: 25 1980s: 29 1990s: 28 2000s: 25 2010s: 43 2020s: 30
