Amazon MGM Studios is developing the YA novel “The Loneliest Girl in the Universe” as a feature film.
Variety released the news today:
Amazon MGM Studios is developing the YA novel “The Loneliest Girl in the Universe” as a feature film.
Joe Roth and Jeffrey Kirschenbaum (“Anyone but You,” “Fast X,” the upcoming “Jackpot”) will produce the film alongside Katherine Langford, best known for starring in Netflix’s hit YA series “13 Reasons Why”; Seldy Gray will oversee development for Roth Kirschenbaum Films.
The project is in early development at the studio with Sarah Conradt-Kroehler writing the script, from a treatment by Gary Dauberman.
The Loneliest Girl in the Universe was first published in 2017. It was nominated for the 2019 Carnegie medal, named one of Barnes & Noble’s Top 15 YA Books of 2018, and shortlisted for the STEAM Children’s Book Prize 2019.
Romy Silvers is the only surviving crew-member of a spaceship travelling to a new planet, on a mission to establish a second home for humanity. Alone in space, she is the loneliest girl in the universe until she hears about a new ship which has launched from Earth with a single passenger on board. A boy called J.
Their only communication is via email and due to the distance between them, their messages take months to transmit. And yet Romy finds herself falling in love.
But what does Romy really know about J? And what do the mysterious messages which have started arriving from Earth really mean?
Sometimes, there’s something worse than being alone…
I’ve been holding onto this secret for four long years, so I’m beyond thrilled to finally be able to share it.
The production company, Roth/Kirschenbaum, made Damsel (Milly Bobby Brown/Netflix), Anyone but You (Sydney Sweeney/Glen Powell), The School for Good and Evil (Paul Feig/Netflix), Fast X (Vin Diesel) and The Gray Man (Ryan Gosling), so Romy is in very, very good hands indeed.
A movie deal is, obviously, a dream come true. It’s not something I ever thought would happen to me. I feel lucky enough to get to keep writing new books, let alone for someone to make an adaptation of something that came out of my brain.
The Loneliest Girl in the Universe is a very special story to me. I wrote it when I was 22, fresh out of a physics degree. On the surface, it was inspired by some of the physics I’d learnt about deep space travel at university, but mainly it was propelled by the complicated feelings I had about technically being an ‘adult’ while really just feeling like a naiive kid. It was about internet dating, and fandom as a form of self expression, and my complicated relationship with girlhood (as someone who no longer really identifies as a ‘girl’).
Romy is one of the most precious character I’ve ever created. I poured so much of myself into her personality; her insecurities; her flaws and strengths. So many readers respond to her vulnerability (and mine) with deep love. People have told me that they would die for Romy. That she’s their favourite fictional character of all time. That she’s helped them process so much of their own anxiety, trauma and imposter syndrome. That she’s a role model for girls who are deciding to study science at university. As a writer, it’s the biggest honour to have created someone who feels so real and important to so many people.
I can’t wait for Romy to reach a whole new audience on screen through Amazon MGM Studios. The team at R/K have a very clear vision for Romy’s story, and so much respect for her journey as a character. I’m very excited to see what they create.
I have some experience of the TV industry in UK through my work in the Heartstopper writer’s room as story consultant, but movies and Hollywood are obviously a whole new ballgame. I’m excited and nervous to learn more!
For everyone who’s been with me and Romy since 2017, I hope the The Loneliest Girl in the Universe movie lives up to all your expectations, when it launches (which might be a while off!). Thank you for sticking with me.
And for new readers, you can read the book now. It’s published in the UK, Australia, USA, and in translation in Indonesia, Brazil, Poland and Turkey.

A contemporary YA murder mystery set in sun-drenched LA, for fans of Malibu Rising, We Were Liars and A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder. glen powell glen powell GLEN POWELL!!!!!
i wannahear what u think of him and the gigi paris mess!
... my gods, I've turned into a gossip columnist. 😏
All joking aside... there's really not much to tell. Glen, Gigi, and Sydney all kept it out of the public eye. Lots and lots of gossip magazines went nuts, so did fan speculation. I think it was later addressed, eventually, with very vague interviews that only stated something along the lines of "It just didn't work out" and Sydney insisting that she and Glen were only really good friends (that and she was happily engaged, with her fiancé being right there as a producer as they filmed).
As I said, the gossip mags and tabloids made a lot about it.
Whenever Glen and Sydney weren't filming on set, they took tours and trips around Australia. They went to local Sydney (as in Australia, not the actress) sites, Taronga Zoo, and even the Sydney Swans locker room.
There was a behind-the-scenes clip of Sydney on Glen's lap that apparently sent fans into a tizzy.
What's interesting--and noted by many--is that when a lot of those couple-y photos of Glen and Sydney came out, Gigi came to visit Glen in Australia. And he greeted her with flowers.
Anyway, back in April 2023, rumors of affairs stirred up when someone noted that Glen's then-girlfriend, Gigi Paris, unfollowed him and Sydney on social media.
That happened right after Glen and Sydney finished filming Anyone But You.
To many a fan, that meant that was confirmation of an affair. That and Gigi's "break-up" IG post, which was cryptic as heck but also very pointed to anyone who could read between the lines.
instagram
(Interestingly, Glen actually 'liked' that post.)
Gigi and Glen had been dating since 2020. They had a ton of cute photos on Instagram (both of theirs) and in public. But roughly around the time of filming wrapping up, Gigi and Glen hadn't been seen together since she came over during filming.
Sydney and Glen were also incredibly flirty during the press tour. When they appeared at the 2023 CinemaCon. During an exchange, Glen joked that the actors love to see themselves on screen, and Sydeny responded with, "Oh please, Top Gun."
Glen replied with "I love when she calls me that."
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Eventually, June of 2023, Sydney said the supposed affair was just good acting. She claimed that the photos they saw were all of them on set, in character.
While social media and gossip magazines and paparazzi fanned the flames, Glen admitted the intense speculation took a toll. During an interview with Men's Health in November 2023, he admitted, "When all that stuff happened, you know, publicly, it felt disorienting and unfair. But what I'm realizing is that's just a part of this gig now."
He spoke about it six months after Sydney addressed the rumors.
Of course, Sydney fans were puzzled: wasn't she engaged? Yes… yes she was. And still is.
Sydney became engaged to her long-term partner, restaurateur Jonathan Davino, in February of 2022. When she guest hosted SNL in March of this year, she confirmed that she was in fact still engaged with him, and he was on-set for the entirety of Anyone But You. (They co-produced via her production company, Fifty-Fifty.)
Tumblr media
Glen made a special appearance on SNL in the audience, and during Sydney's monologue, the camera zoomed onto him instead of her fiancé. A lot of folks found it funny. I found it cringe-worthy. (Link to her monologue.)
Thankfully the rumors began to die down, though there were smatterings of gossip about Jonathan being seen without his ring and "moving" out of Sydney's place. But that too died down.
Meanwhile, Glen's been busy with a number of movies--Hit Man, Twisters, and apparently working on a mini-series (I think) about Chad Powers.
I do remember Glen talking about how finding love is hard when he's constantly working. There's aspects of the industry that makes it hard to have a relationship, especially when they're on the go. He said, in an CBS Mornings interview:
“This is a time where life is moving so fast that I don’t even know if I could bring someone into it … in a healthy way, even if I tried,” the Twisters star explained.
“If love comes and hits me in the face and knocks me over, I welcome it with open arms because that’s something I really want,” Powell said, noting that he wants a family and kids. "At the same time, I realize that it’s going to take a very specific type of person to navigate this. It’s a lot.”
For now, Glen has his adorable dog, Brisket, to keep him company.

Australian studio Flying Bark Productions will animate Avatar Studios’ 2D adult Gaang ATLA feature film!
Here are the key excerpts from the official if.com.au news release shared by Flying Bark (emphasis ours):
Paramount Animation and Nickelodeon Animation have enlisted Flying Bark Productions to animate their newly-announced untitled 2D Avatar feature film, as the Sydney-based studio seeks to expand its team.
Set to couple traditional 2D animation with substantial CG elements, the Avatar feature films will be based in the world of Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra, which were originally created for Nickelodeon by Bryan Konietzko and Michael DiMartino. The upcoming feature will be directed by Lauren Montgomery, with Konietzko and DiMartino producing under their Avatar Studios banner.
Flying Bark Productions, whose recent credits include Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, LEGO Monkie Kid, [Marvel Studios’] What If…?, has put a call out for Australian and international artists across several 2D animation and CG departments, with successful candidates to join the company from next year.
[...]
Flying Bark director of production Alexia Gates-Foale said the studio looked forward to welcoming new talent while also further developing its team of 350 artists during an “exciting time” for Australian animation.
“Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra are two of the most iconic animated series of our time and we are simply thrilled to play a part in bringing this new story to life,” she said.
“With a company full of creatives and super fans, the Avatar feature is a dream project for the team at Flying Bark.”
Paramount Animation executive vice president Mark Bakshi said Flying Bark’s track record of “artistic excellence” made them an ideal creative partner for the film.
“We are so excited to be working with one of the premiere and long-standing animation studios in Australia, Flying Bark,” he said.
At SDCC this year, it was revealed that the first of three planned standalone Avatar feature films will follow Aang’s Team Avatar, and we at Avatar News exclusively reported that the Gaang will be young adults in the movie.

The respected Scottish actor Roy Hanlon passed away on June 30th 2005.
Throughout his career Roy Hanlon was a much loved and respected character actor. He appeared often on television, with many theatre companies in Scotland and Ireland and graced many productions at the Edinburgh Festival. Indeed he had the distinction of appearing in three productions of the epic Three Estaites in the same role. His well-known face, however, was seen in important supporting roles in a host of Scottish drama series, including Dr Finlay’s Casebook, Sutherland’s Law and The Borderers.
Roy Hanlon trained with the Scottish Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, graduating in 1960. He joined the Glasgow Citizens’ Company and was a member of the company at that year’s Edinburgh Festival in Durenmatt’s seldom-performed Romullus the Great. He was back two years later in an equally rare play - The Doctor and the Devils - with a host of leading Scottish actors.
In 1964 Hanlon made the first of several appearances in Dr Finlay’s Casebook and appeared as a menacing doctor in Edward Bond’s acclaimed radio drama Castles in Spain. In 1967 he was in two films. The first (Robbery), starring Stanley Baker, was about a gang who robbed the overnight Glasgow to London train. He then appeared in an espionage thriller, The Naked Runner alongside Frank Sinatra and Edward Fox. Critics greeted neither movie with much enthusiasm. Two years later, Hanlon was cast in several leading television dramas of the period, notably the underground spy drama Jason King, which made a star of Peter Wyngarde.
Throughout the 1970s, Hanlon appeared in a host of roles. These included BBC Scotland’s popular 1972 drama Sutherland’s Law, about a procurator fiscal, starring Iain Sutherland, and The Saint - the award-winning series on ITV starring Roger Moore.
It was in 1984 that Hanlon first came to the Festival to play Spiritualitie in Tom Fleming’s dramatic production of the Thrie Estaites. The production starred such actors as Andrew Cruickshank, David Rintoul, Edith Macarthur and Alec Heggie and was repeated the following year. Hanlon also returned to the same role in the 1991 production of the play. In 1985 it was performed at the Assembly Hall in tandem with Sydney Goodsir Smith’s The Wallace, in which Hanlon played John Mentieth. The Wallace demanded much of the huge cast: the opening scene alone was given in old Scots and contemporary English.
In the early 1980s, Hanlon became a regular visitor to Ireland and worked often with the Abbey Theatre of Dublin (including a memorable Doctor’s Dilemma in 1982). Two years earlier he had made a notable impression in the world premiere of Brian Friel’s Translations, in which Hanlon delivered an engrossing account of Jimmy Jack alongside the young Liam Neeson and Stephen Rea.
Hanlon was with the Abbey in 1995 for Patrick Mason’s production of Sebastian Barry’s The Only True History of Lizzie Finn. In 1998 Hanlon was nominated for a Barclay’s Theatre Award for his appearance in Juno and the Paycock.
Hanlon remained a fiercely proud Scot and was devoted to his profession and his family. He was still working up to 2004, when he was seen in BBC2’s Takin’ Over the Asylum.

There's an old joke that Australians are so laid back they're in constant danger of falling over. Known for its sun, surf and occasionally shark attacks, Australia has gone from being the easy-going land Down Under to experiencing a surge of antisemitism that most Jews thought was relegated to the dark annals of Jewish history.
In the line of fire are Australian-Jewish actors, musicians, writers, and others in the traditionally left-wing arts community. They are being pushed by fellow artists to denounce Israel as a modern-day Satan or be banished from the local arts scene.
The attacks and vitriol have shades of Mao's Cultural Revolution where people were publicly humiliated as subversives before being banished to work camps. In this modern-day Australian twist, Jews are simply fired or excommunicated from their artistic communities.
Under attack, these Jewish creatives formed a Whatsapp group where they shared their feelings of alienation with fellow Jewish artists. The group was breached, and chats were stolen and circulated online. Now pro-Hamas keyboard warriors are doxxing and threatening the creatives who used the chat to share their despair as work dried up and friends and colleagues abandoned them.
Saxophonist Joshua Moshe was doxxed and threatened by pro-Hamas supporters simply for being a member of the chat group. The harassment got so bad that his band mates fired him from their neo-soul jazz band via Instagram.
"We explicitly condemn any forms of Zionism, racism, bullying, and antisemitism," his bandmates said, without any irony, as they expelled their only Jewish member. Moshe's wife's gift shop has been boycotted and vandalized.
Actress Sarah-Jane Feiglin is not surprised that Moshe's bandmates turned on him. She's been taunted by actors expressing support of Hamas's Oct. 7 atrocities against Israelis during acting workshops. She's no longer in touch with many of her old friends from film school as well as other actor friends.
"People are being bullied into silence. They are afraid of being cancelled and losing work, so they are shunning their Jewish friends publicly and privately," Feiglin said.
Feiglin was removed from a prestigious clowning masterclass of the sort made famous by Sasha Baron-Cohen. She'd spent months preparing for the class with pre-workshop improv courses. Before the masterclass began, her instructor emailed her to say that she couldn't do the class. He said that she was too emotional because she'd been dismayed during a previous workshop by an actor telling Hitler jokes as well as mocking comments by other actors that alluded to the 230 Israelis taken hostage by Hamas on Oct. 7, including children and young women who released hostages say are being raped by their Hamas captors.
"All of my creative platforms and work opportunities have been taken away from me because I will not be ashamed or apologetic about being Jewish," she said.
Members of the Jewish creatives chat group were largely left-wing artists who disagreed with many policies of the Netanyahu government and were devastated by the loss of life among Palestinians from the Israeli military onslaught on Hamas in Gaza. They are also deeply wounded by the minimization, justification, and denial by fellow artists of the Oct. 7 murders and rapes by Hamas.
One of the turning points for many Jewish artists was a pro-Palestinian protest by several actors, including the son of Hugo Weaving, at the Sydney Theatre Company, in which they donned keffiyehs and made a pro-Palestine speech at the end of a production. Jews were offended not because the actors decried the deaths of Palestinian children but rather because the actors said not a word about the Israeli hostages, including a baby, held by Hamas as well as Hamas's mass murder of 1,200 Israelis on Oct. 7.
Based largely on an influx of Holocaust survivors after World War Two, there are just 100,000 Jews in Australia, or 0.4 percent of the population. The community is so small that 'Jewish' isn't listed as a religion on the national census. Jews have to write their religion next to the word "Other." Some leave it blank, remembering how such information was used by the Nazis for deportation lists to concentration camps.
Now there are new lists; lists of names stolen from Jewish chat groups circulating among pro-Hamas activists. They have become hit lists of Jews for doxxing, boycotts, and death threats. Meanwhile, police have done little to stem the hate, arson, vandalism and calls for violence paraded on Australian streets,
When screenshots of a Whatsapp group of Jewish lawyers were leaked to Australia's The Sydney Morning Herald and The Age, the newspapers ran articles filled with antisemitic tropes that could have been pulled from the pages of the Nazi newspaper Der Sturmer during Hitler's rise to power in the 1930s. The articles claimed a "secret chat group" of Jewish lawyers had carried out a "coordinated back-channel campaign" to fire a social media personality and pro-Palestine activist hired as a radio presenter by the ABC public broadcaster, which has a statutory duty requiring impartiality. Chat group members received death threats after the articles were released.
The newspapers put a conspiratorial spin on what was in essence a few people on a Whatsapp group spontaneously deciding to write letters of complaint over an eyebrow-raising appointment of an activist at a taxpayer-funded public broadcaster. The activist, Antoinette Lattouf, had put up social media posts perceived as justifying the Oct. 7 massacre.
"Apparently everyone else can lobby on their own behalf except Jews," posted a Jewish former politician, Philip Dalidakis, on X when the articles came out.
Lattouf was subsequently stood down by the ABC for breaching its social media code. She claimed that she was fired over a Human Rights Watch post, and has sued for unfair dismissal. The matter is still pending. Lattouf's activism and pro-Palestine social media commentary raise important questions about why she was hired at all given the ABC's strict impartiality requirement. Her social media posts have included an Instagram comment hailing as "super important" a call for a "healthy cynicism" of witness testimony of the rape of Israeli women on Oct. 7.
Lattouf was also a signatory on a controversial journalists' letter—signed also by staff at the ABC and the newspapers that ran the Jewish chat group story—that demanded journalists be allowed to "apply as much professional skepticism when prioritizing or relying on uncorroborated Israeli government and military sources to shape coverage as applied to Hamas."
The demand goes against journalistic best practice as it requires reporters give the same credence to the information provided by a democracy with courts, oversight, a free press, and other checks and balances as to a terrorist group whose spokesmen hide in the tunnels of Gaza. A case in point being Hamas's now disproven claims that Israel bombed Gaza's al-Ahli Hospital on Oct. 17 when it was a misfired Islamic Jihad rocket that hit the hospital parking lot. There's no record of any media organization confronting Hamas about its falsehood, which sparked violent protests across the Middle East. Perhaps that's because the Hamas spokesman is incommunicado in a tunnel deep underground somewhere in the Gaza Strip.
The Age has provided little coverage of the rise in antisemitism in Melbourne. Instead, it's issued a series of articles positing whether Israel should exist or become a binational state as was Lebanon before the civil war ended that experiment for good, resulting in the exile of the bulk of the Maronite Christian community and Lebanon's takeover by the Iranian-proxy Hezbollah.
Home to the survivors whose stories featured in The Tattooist of Auschwitz and Schindler's List, the Australian city of Melbourne has the largest community of Holocaust survivors and their descendants in the world outside of Israel. The community thrived until Oct. 7. Since then, Melbourne's Jews, like the rest of Australia's Jewish community, have been hounded by calls to boycott Jewish businesses, vilification of Jewish philanthropists who donated wings to hospitals and collections to art galleries, as well as daily acts of vandalism and threats and occasional violence.
For many Australian Jews, post Oct. 7 Australia has shades of 1930s Germany in which Jewish artists and academics were shunned by their peers, newspapers treated Jews as "Other," and Jewish businesses were boycotted and attacked in what turned out to be a prelude to the Holocaust. While few think it will ever get that bad, Jews have never felt so unsafe and unwelcome in the land Down Under.

Do you have post-Emmy predictions or thoughts for Snook's career?
Oooo, I'm actually not too sure? She's such an incredible actress, and I'd really love her to hit the A-list, but her choices even since Succession started and her star rose have been kind of odd ones? Like Pieces of a Woman was such a bit part for her, albeit one in an interesting art house movie, Run Rabbit Run saw her as the lead in a pretty terrible psychological thriller, and The Beanie Bubble? Just - - yeah.
Really odd choices.
I do suspect her career has likely been impacted a bit by the fact that she moved back to Australia, married another actor who has a steady, ongoing gig (Dave Lawson's a part of the core ensemble in Utopia which is a very good and very funny sitcom here!) and has had a baby, to say nothing of the pandemic, and I think she's perhaps still feeling out herself what she'd like her career to look like.
That said, I thought it was really smart that both Sarah and Jeremy have gone back to theatre for their first major roles post-Succession, and Sarah's move I think is particularly smart strategically given it's a Sydney Theatre Company production being performed on London's West End, which kind of relaunches her in theatre in two different spaces.
Sydney Theatre Company is a huge deal in Australia and a world class company - Cate Blanchett and her husband, Andrew Upton were co-artistic directors there for a number of years, and it's a home for many of Australia's best actors like Rose Byrne, Toni Collette, Hugo Weaving, Heather Mitchell (my beloved!!). Sarah already had a relationship with STC prior to Succession - having played Joan of Arc in the STC production of Saint Joan in 2018 - so for one of her first major roles after the series to be back at the Company does really feel like both a homecoming and an opportunity to ascend within the theatrical elite in Australia. The production though that she's in being in the UK's West End I feel offers that two-fold as well.
Getting back into STC though I think opens her doors again to local connections, particularly with the Cate Blanchett set and given Blanchett's been moving steadily into producing in Australia, I could see Sarah being cast in one of her productions? Hopefully a film, given The New Boy and Shayda were infinitely better than Stateless, haha.
In my experience with actors in Australia, the ones with young children tend to lean towards theatre residencies and TV because it's (generally speaking) better / more flexible hours and steadier work, and in many ways, Australian TV is having a bit of a renaissance right now with shows like The Newsreader, Deadloch and Boy Swallows Universe, so I could absolutely see her headlining a mini-series? Perhaps a literary adaptation?
I'd love to see her in something from Jane Campion, Jennifer Kent or Goran Stolevski, and I think all three are a possibility - Goran probably least at this stage just because he's such a new voice.
I think she'll probably pop back up in some US films and TV, and I think she'll probably land a few really meaty ones, but I do kind of think she might be more likely to work between Australia and the UK in the future? I couldn't quite tell you why, and I could be wrong, but yeah. I guess my prediction is that she'll have an incredible career, but I don't necessarily think it'll be US-centric post-Succession, or tremendously high profile.

Endemol Shine Australia, CBS Studios, Paramount Australia and Screen Territory are excited to announce that the internationally smash-hit series, NCIS: Sydney is coming to Darwin!
Produced by Endemol Shine Australia for CBS Studios and Paramount Australia, and distributed outside Australia by Paramount Global Content Distribution, production of the special 2 x 1 hour episodes which are part of the series, will commence in Darwin and surrounding areas later this year.
Productions filmed in the NT make a significant contribution to the local economy through jobs and goods and services. They also highlight the magnificent Northern Territory both nationally and worldwide.
The first international iteration of the global NCIS franchise outside of the US, NCIS: Sydney is a brilliant and eclectic team of U.S. NCIS Agents and the Australian Federal Police (AFP) who have been grafted into a multi-national taskforce to keep naval crimes in check.  Having only just found their feet, in season two, the agents of NCIS: Sydney square off against a much more powerful adversary, threatening the very stability of the region…and the team itself.
NCIS: Sydney is one of the most watched local series since the launch of Paramount+ Australia and premiered on CBS US as the #1 new series in the fall of the 2023-2024 season, with the series premiere reaching over 10.2 million viewers on linear in the U.S., including an encore episode. In its first season, NCIS: Sydney averaged more than 8 million multiplatform viewers per episode across all platforms, and has been nominated for a TV Week Logie Award for Best Drama Series.
NCIS is one of the world’s most successful television franchise with more than 300 million viewers globally across all platforms, including broadcast, cable, streaming and syndication (according to Nielsen and international Television Audience Measurement companies in key territories).
Director Screen Territory, Jennie Hughes said:
“Screen Territory is thrilled to see the Top End become a part of the NCIS legacy as one of the longest running and most successful TV franchises ever.
“NCIS: Sydney has enjoyed immense success with global audiences, and we look forward to the Territory not only showcase its unique locations to this beloved series franchise, but also to contributing the talents and abilities of our local screen production crews and creative talents.”
“We look forward to welcoming the NCIS team to the Northern Territory and look forward to the building and fostering this new production relationship with Endemol Shine Australia and Paramount.”
Endemol Shine Australia, Head of Scripted, Sara Richardson said:
“Endemol Shine Australia and the entire cast and crew are extremely excited to be bringing NCIS: Sydney to the Northern Territory.”
“The rare beauty of Australia’s Top End will be showcased to audiences both around Australia and around the globe, as it is the backdrop for some compelling storylines resulting in high action for our brilliant and eclectic team of Agents.”
Paramount Australia, Creative Advisor Drama, Rick Maier said:
“What better way to showcase the brilliant Northern Territory to the rest of the world. We are incredibly proud to celebrate each and every new milestone for NCIS: Sydney.”
This major screen production was brought to the Northern Territory through the Territory Government’s Screen Territory Production Attraction Incentive Program (PAIP).
Territory screen professionals will have the opportunity to work alongside some of the best in the business on NCIS: Sydney.
The Production Attraction Incentive Program is open all year round and aims to attract footloose screen productions to film in the NT which will employ Territorians and utilise Territory services and businesses.

“The Hucksters:” A sitthroughable 1947 romcom and satire starring Clark Gable
Clark Gable is a veteran returning home from World War II eager to resume his pre-war lifestyle as a playboy ad-man, but ultimately finding the life empty and unsatisfying. He takes a high-paying job at an ad agency, in the course of which he meets beautiful war widow Deborah Kerr, which causes him to change his values.
Tumblr media
The movie was ok, but not actually good. Plenty of close-ups of Gable’s face, which reminded me that he was actually a homely man, with big fleshy lips and bad teeth. He was often on the phone with Deborah Kerr’s character, and it was unsettling to see close-ups of his lips doing air kisses.
On the other hand, I can also see why he was a huge sex symbol. He had charisma.
Deborah Kerr’s character was a blank cipher, an empty receptacle for Victorian views of chastity and virtue. She had no discernible personality, ambitions or thoughts other than attaching herself to Clark Gable. Gable and Kerr had zero chemistry together.
Clark Gable’s character was also pursued by an ambitious lounge singer played by Ava Gardner, the only really interesting character in the film. In addition to being smokin’ hot (on account of being Ava Gardner), she was also funny, smart and charming, and made it very clear that the main character could have her anywhere and at any time, for a quickie, lifetime commitment, or anything in between.
Clark Gable’s character, of course, rejects Ava Gardner in favor of Deborah Kerr. Because Ava Gardner’s character was a Bad Girl I guess.
The movie features a hell of a cast doing great work despite a lackluster script and story: Sydney Greenstreet as an evil soap company magnate, Adolphe Menjou as Clark Gable’s unscrupulous boss, Keenan Wynn as a talentless, shameless comedian who’s desperate for work, and more. Truly, the entire cast was great—not a dud in the lot—they just didn’t have much to work with.
And the movie has great midcentury design, direction, and dialogue. It’s visually very nice, except for too many close-ups of Clark Gable.
Overall, I enjoyed it, but I can’t say I’d recommend it.
According to Wikipedia, the movie was adapted from a best-selling novel, which was considered raunchy and racy in its day. Even Gable said it was “filthy” and “isn’t entertainment.” The story was toned down for the movie—as far as I can see, they removed nearly all the spice from it and made it bland and uninteresting.
One storyline involves a fictional talent agent named “David Lash,” played by Edward Arnold. In the novel, he was based on a real agent of the time, Jules Stein, founder of MCA, but the filmmakers were afraid of Stein, so they had characters repeat several times that Lash is an honest man.
In a pivotal scene in the movie, Clark Gable’s character threatens to spread gossip about Lash that will cause people to think Lash is dishonest. Lash is portrayed as heartbroken, not for himself, but because he got in trouble when he was young, went straight and succeeded, and he fears besmirching the reputations of all troubled kids. Gable’s character is disgusted with himself afterward.
It’s an odd scene that doesn’t really work.
But in the book, Lash is presented as Jewish, and Clark Gable’s character threatens to fan the flames of anti-Semitism, which would have been a more powerful scene if the filmmakers had gone through with it.
Also this:
As the start of production neared, Ava Gardner grew nervous about appearing with Gable, an actor she had idolized since childhood. [Producer Arthur Hornblow Jr.] asked Gable to call her, and he told her: “I’m supposed to talk you into doing this thing. But I’m not going to. I hated it when they did that to me. But I hope you change your mind, kid, I think it would be fun to work together.” The two remained friends for the rest of Gable’s life.
Gable also sought to make a nervous Kerr feel relaxed when shooting commenced. He sent her six dozen roses on the first day, and “the two hit it off beautifully from the beginning, on and off the set.”
I don’t know anything about Gable but he sounds like a true gentleman.

5 Steps for Recommendation the Best Video and Film Production Company
Tumblr media
Now the world is changing businesses are also developing. People are utilizing the best technologies to present them to their target customers and their clients.
Video and Film Production
Businesses show to be in love with presenting their ideas and introduction through Videos and/or Films. I like the way Steve Jobs used to represent his products and/or services to the world. The impact was always maximum, and the conclusions were phenomenal. You also can do the same thing.
There are many Video and Film Production companies in the market. Here, you stand a great chance to find a suitable one for your clear-cut business needs. However, verify that you hire the services of a professional Sydney Film Production Company so that the outcome is what you want. Below are some factors that you should take into attention to.
Follow These Steps:
1. Ask, and You Shall Receive: Most people love this quote and believe in this quote. Even it fits here so well. When looking for Video and Film Production companies, starts with asking your family, friends, and colleagues. Chances are, you'll get to know some loyal service providers. Believe it or not, it just happens.
2. Say Hello to Google: Google is an intelligent kid. You type your question in the search box and press the key that says ENTER. The moment you do this act, you'll be able to see many of the leading service providers in your nearby region. As well to Google, there are many other search engines such as Yahoo, MSN, and Bing.
3. Zero-in on 3-4: Don't seal the deal with the very first video production Sydney that you come across in your search. Instead, go before and find all possible options for you. Compare them. Talk to them, and ask for competitive quotes. Zero-in on 3-4 of them. Now, your focus should be on these selected ones.
4. See what they’ve done in the Past: Identify their portfolios - and the work they've done in the past for their clients. Remember, they're not going to make any exceptions in your case. So, it's wise to select one with a sound and solid track record of result-oriented solutions for their clients.
5. Choose the Best One: Now that you've seen their work, you're better position to choose the best one for your business for creating videos and films for your promotional campaigns, for your clients and the inner circulation.

The Future of Scream
Any fan of Scream as a franchise has been following entertainment news this week. It has not been a good one for the long-running slasher franchise. Melissa Barrera was terminated from the franchise, and Jenna Ortega has reportedly informed the studio she is dropping out due to scheduling.
While this news is very heartbreaking for people who wanted to see Ortega and Barrera again, the bigger question is, where does it leave The Franchise? A creative adjustment is certainly in the works as the sisters were 2/4 members of the new core four. It will be a tall task to replace them from a story perspective. Samantha and Tara were integral to Scream 5 and setting up a new era for Ghostface. 6 even brought the series to a new location and changed the game.
Having to completely overhaul the story this far in seems like a massive setback. Not that it is unachievable, but now fans will never get answers to some lingering questions regarding Samantha and Tara.
Tumblr media
It is also being rumored Spyglass (production company behind Scream) are looking to bring Neve Campbell back. Campbell was absent from the sixth installment as there was a contract dispute over the studios reluctance to pay her what she felt she was worth. Patrick Dempsey is also rumored to be on the studios shortlist. While both talented actors neither one of those seems like a step in the right direction.
Scream seems to have taken several steps back, and nostalgia does not seem to be their answer. Even throughout the sixth installment, it never felt like Sydney was necessary. It feels even more like that now. It feels like a bandaid fix with no real goal beyond this next film. We shall see as casting news and story ideas begin to surface what the overall plan is.

📃 Megalist of 𝑭𝒊𝒓𝒔𝒕 𝑳𝒂𝒅𝒊𝒆𝒔 and Other 𝑵𝒐𝒕𝒂𝒃𝒍𝒆 𝑵𝒂𝒎𝒆𝒔 in H&M’s Political Orbit 📃 by u/SeptiemeSens (Part 3 of 3)

11. Members of Parliament (MPs) - In 2019, more than 70 women MPs signed on to a letter of support for and solidarity with the Duchess of Sussex. Their letter was in “solidarity” with Meghan Markle, as she waged a legal battle against the “often distasteful and misleading” press [source 1 // source 2]
12. Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer - In 2021, Meghan sent an open letter to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-California) and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) advocating for Congress to pass a federal paid parental leave program, even though Congress had already passed the program by the time M released her open letter [source 1 // source 2 // source 3]
13. Ndileka Mandela - In 2023, Nelson Mandela's granddaughter and social activist criticized H&M for using the former South African president’s name to pull in Netflix audiences in their Netflix documentary Live to Lead, saying: “It’s deeply upsetting and tedious.” [source 1] Shortly thereafter, Ndikeka clarified her comments saying that she was misquoted by international media and that she actually supports H&M for the courage of their conviction towards social activism [source 2]
14. Peter Cosgrove, Governor General of Australia and his wife Lady Lynne Cosgrove - In 2018, H&M undertook an official tour of Australia. Mandla said: "Overcoming 60 years of apartheid is not the same as marrying a white prince" [source 1 // source 2 //source 3]
📌 Notes:
Originally inspired by South Park's sweet 'n savage takedown of Meghan as ‘First Lady Botherer’ [source 1 // source 2], I then fell down the rabbit hole when I came upon so many other notable names. So, I thought it would be a good idea to keep track of "who's who" in H&M's political orbit and get a bigger (and better) picture of H&M's political motivations and machinations: past, present, and future
A LOT of sources come from our amazing SMM community here but unfortunately, SMM subreddit post links are not allowed as they are automatically removed by Reddit -- ARGH 😖
Thanks again for all the great comments and feedback on my previous popular post: "Megalist of everyone associated with MM via ARO, Archetypes Podcast, and 40x40"
If there are any notable names in H&M's political sphere missing from these lists, please comment below 👇

Out of pure curiosity, what’s the hype about/around Sydney Sweeney? I feel like I haven’t seen any stuff that she was in but I see you post her a lot
I think she was in euphoria tho that’s the only thing I know about her, if I’m right
Sydney has been in several projects, including but not limited to The Handmaid’s Tale, Sharp Objects, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, The White Lotus, Anyone But You, Madame Web, and Immaculate. Not to mention her SEVEN projects that are coming soon. Including Eden with Ana De Armas. She’s also got several brand deals with Laneige, Samsung, Jimmy Choo, Bai, Armani Beauty, Miu Miu, and I’m sure there’s more. She created her own production company, Fifty-Fifty Films. All before the age of 27. She’s fast becoming known as a fashionista, and she’s an actual Hollywood It Girl. She works her ass off, so why not celebrate women that are willing to work both in front of and behind the camera?
If you want to work your way up the Hollywood ladder, you will. She took small parts upon small parts when she was younger, and now she has Miu Miu dressing her at the Met Gala. She’s still engaged, and still living her life. She’s buying beautiful properties with her own money, and having fun. People never like to see successful women on top. But I do.
