What I need people who are criticizing media to understand is that things like “marvel humor” and “wokeness” have ALWAYS existed. They are not “new” trends that just came about in recent years.

When I was growing up, what you would call “marvel humor” was just referred to as “Hollywood one-liners.” The term originating from the big blockbuster films that were becoming popular at the time in the late 70’s and early 80’s. Think Star Wars and Die Hard and Indiana Jones.

Films involving “woke” concepts like diversity, black lives, women’s rights, minorities, etc have ALWAYS existed since the dawn of cinema. They didn’t just start existing within the past 10 years. We just never called them “woke” before then.

Like you can go back and watch very GAY films in the 1940’s and 1950’s. They just had to be more subtle about the gayness because it was illegal and there was the Hays Codes which prevented explicit depictions of lgbt+ content. But they existed. They’ve been there since the beginning, because lgbt+ people have always existed too.

What IS new is this concept that filmmakers are deliberately trying to insert their “agenda” into films and that characters are being written for the sake of diversity and not for their merits… which is a VERY right-wing conservative mindset. And, like the vast majority of right-wing bullshit… it’s simply not true.

There’s this thing that happened on the internet around 2012-2014. YouTube changed its algorithm and started prioritizing long form videos. At the same time, right wing authoritarian groups like the KKK and Neo-Nazis began to stop meeting in person and started organizing online. And this resulted in a perfect storm for the proliferation of right wing talking points online, especially on YouTube because it was very easy for these people to just make long videos ranting and spreading their hate and YouTube would slot them into the algorithm.

THIS is where all these negative views about women in media, Mary Sues, Wokeness, DEI, the gay agenda, etc all started to gain MASSIVE momentum.

So when I see people criticizing media by saying “they’re putting their agenda into the film” or saying “it’s full of woke concepts” or “they added this (minority) character for brownie points” you are telling me that you don’t actually have an understanding of how media literacy works and are just parroting right wing talking points.

If you use the term “marvel humor” to describe the existence of ANY joke in a show, you are not a serious person and should not be listened to because “marvel humor” is just the latest attempt to rebrand right wing disgust with having FUN.

There’s a lot more that goes into this, it’s a HUGE topic in and of itself. But I really need you all to understand that if you’re going to try to be critical about a piece of media and you use buzz words and sound byte topics like that, you are signaling to the REST of us that you are a deeply unserious individual who does not understand how to analyze media in any coherent or meaningful way.

The Flintstones Meet Rockula and Frankenstone

Infos Film : Quand Fred remporte le grand prix du jeu télévisé « Make A Deal or Don't », lui et Wilma plantent un voyage avec Barney et Betty pour le château effrayant de Comté de Rocksylvanie qui est devenu une station touristique. Malheureusement, pendant le voyage, Fred et Barney trébuchent accidentellement dans le vieux laboratoire de Rockula, où son monstre inachevé de Frankenstone dort, et oublient de fermer la fenêtre quand ils quittent le laboratoire. La foudre frappe ensuite les machines dans le laboratoire, et donne la vie à Frankenstone. Frankenstone réveille Rockula (qui dort depuis cinq cents ans, expliquant ainsi sa disparition) de sa crypte secrète, et les deux effrayent tout le monde dans l'hôtel, à l'exception des Flintstones et des Rubbles, qui étaient allés au lit en retard à cause du décalage.

I think it also goes hand in hand with the storytelling of this scene specifically because we’ve had fight scenes elsewhere in the show and the film never dislodged like this before. So it’s almost like the film for the pitfighter arc itself was stitched together haphazardly and carelessly, mirroring how haphazardly and careless Vi is being with her life. It’s like the film projector itself is barely holding the scene together, just like Vi is barely holding herself together.

And let’s remember everyone… there IS no film. This is a digitally animated show. So all of these analogue elements were intentionally and painstakingly added for no other purpose than to enhance the scenes in this way!
