chardawn and linzin... the crossover i never knew i needed HAHAHAHAHA
Hi, anon~
YES! CHARDAWN & LINZIN~ our roman empire 😭😭😭
TBH, I see Linzin everywhere now.
If anyone is curious, CHARDAWN is a popular pairing/loveteam in the Philippines. They were once a couple but are now happily married to their respective spouses. Despite this, they remain on good terms in real life and have even made several movies together. Filo fans love their chemistry.
Walang Hanggan
Emily and Marco are a central couple in the Filipino TV drama "Walang Hanggan." Emily, played by Dawn Zulueta, and Marco, portrayed by Richard Gomez, share a deep and enduring love. Despite family conflicts and personal struggles that separate them, their love stays strong over the years. Their eventual reunion shows how powerful true love can be, making them one of the most beloved couples in Filipino TV. The chemistry between the actors has earned them a big fanbase and lots of praise.

I’m so sorry about ALOTO :( We can’t really trust the whites anymore when it comes to wlw. After GAP (still can’t believe how lucky we got with that ughhh) I have been slowly getting myself familiar with all the recent Thai lgbtq+ media. At least they know how to capitalize on loveteams like us Filipinos lol Though we are still pretty far with lgbtq+ representation.
yeah 😞 and another thing that i hate about it is that im just so used to it at this point that im not even mad or sad anymore and thats alarming to say the least. that said, a show like aloto getting this kind of treatment isn't the end of the world. its bad that at this point in time there are still fewer queer/queer-centric shows, esp sapphic ones, compared to straight/straight-focused shows but there's always other queer media outside of the US so thats something but it just takes a lot out of us to always have to fight for our shows or else we're forced to find some other way or some other place not in the mainstream (not that non-mainstream content is automatically bad or anything, i think it just kinda relegates queer audiences to the "fringes" or "niches" or smth)
anyways maybe i'll just go rewatch gap or watch another thai gl that i come across, maybe that'll make me forget 😔

Safe Havens or Stifled Stories? Examining 'Rewind' and Filipino Film Conventions | Opinion
'Safe Havens or Stifled Stories?' Roy Narra writes an opinion piece on Mae Cruz-Alviar's MMFF and now Netflix-hit 'Rewind' and the familiar film conventions we should all probably give up on now.
With Rewind being the highest-grossing Filipino film of all time now, what does that say about the Filipino audience? First, we are still hooked on loveteams and romantic films. Second, Star Cinema has a firm grasp of the audience’s emotional needs in watching films. Third, Filipinos will spend their hard-earned money to buy expensive tickets for a formulaic, predictable romantic family drama…

Aha! I knew it. I was never fond of this Filipino male celebrity. Ever since before, I felt like something was off with him.
I remember every time I’d pass by, and his teleserye, that would go on for years, would be playing on the telly, I’d feel disgusted. I don’t even know why.
Now, I get it. The guy was already 26 when he first approached the girl, and she was only 13 at that time. And he did the “binakuran” thing, like he made sure that when she turned 16, they would be a loveteam here in the Philippines, and not only that he asked for them to be in the same movie. Because he didn’t want her to be partnered with anyone else. You might say, “oh! That’s tad romantic!” But nope! If you read his interview with her, way back in 2012. You would notice, the way he said some things. That were quite inappropriate. And she’s 16. The way she was portrayed into this “mature woman” for him to easily sleaze his way into her, and obviously make the public overlook it, is quite sickening.
And yes, let’s say she did give her consent. That’s what grooming is, mind you. She’s in love with him. Since she was 16. But how would she know, if the adults around her were already telling her that this is a good thing, this overly mature, famous guy, wants her.
And mind you, he even said, in one interview that when they first got together when she’s already 16, because remember he wanted to court her when she’s only 13, he said he was mean to her. Um? Isn’t that what manipulative people would do? Treat you badly then treat you good the next time, to confuse you and to make you want them more?
Tsk, tsk, tsk

Filipinos do take loveteams seriously. I think in every generation there's a prominent loveteam that fans would fight for. In 2015, there was a loveteam that started on a noontime show (Filos here would now this.haha.). the premise is it's an unscripted segment, and we get to see their love story progress on tv. they got so big that they had the guinness world record for most tweets in a day. this would later on be surpassed by bts. they would go on a few "dates", their families would hype them up on social media, but they didnt get together as a couple. I doubt if they were even friends.haha. when someone else courted the girl, this other guy was really crucified on social media.they dated but the loyal fans still held on to the original pair, believing they have kids that they are hiding or when the guy goes live apparently you would see baby clothes/toys in the background. haha. the girl even had to send dms to certain fans saying they are not a couple but the fans thought they were just talking to a social media manager. now the girl's engaged but some fans still won't let go.I imagine it would be total chaos if one day the bts maknae line reveal their partners
The tweets record, oh wow.
I had an idea that the couples were famous, that it was a show people liked a lot but I didn't know so much.
"the girl even had to send dms to certain fans saying they are not a couple but the fans thought they were just talking to a social media manager."
No waaaaaaaay.
It really is pretty much what I mean when I say that ships are usually, for the most part, a projection of personal romantic ideals. The first couple, the one that was going during the show was probably the perfect love story for the shippers. It does not matter that it was fake. Some of those shippers probably knew that it was fake. Even if it was fake, it was still perfect for them.
I don't know if it's related but I've said before how BTS relationships are all real precisely because they're not perfect. They all have flaws and they all have moments that we're watching and thinking "damn why did they treat him like that". But that's what real life is. Sometimes you just mess up. I would actually be less trusting of something that looks perfect, because perfect social interactions rarely are genuine.
Back to the topic, I actually think "phenomenons" like that are quite common, even if they don't reach such heights, even if the shippers don't become so delusional. I'm thinking of Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper, for example. I'm not sure if Gaga was single or not at the time but Bradley Cooper was married when he worked with Gaga, and people shipped them and magazines and media outlets talked about their chemistry and actually wondered if there was more going on. That was a ship even though, at least Bradley, actually had a wife.
There was Jessica Chastain and Oscar Isaac, too. Both married, yet still people were hooked on their little "romantic" anthics that they used to promote their movie. They had great chemistry together, looked very good together, and they knew how to make use of that favorable situation. People shipped too even while knowing perfectly well that there was nothing real there except friendship and that they were both married to other people.
Illusion sells. It sells a lot and it's a well that hardly ever runs dry. You don't even need to do much to keep it going because the fans/shippers will keep it going no matter what.
Larries are still a thing even if Harry and Louis haven't publicly acknowledged each other for a decade. It's the shippers that are still carrying that torch.
Last year I said that even if Taehyung and Jennie confirm to be dating each other, or there are more undeniable proof of them as a couple, that still wouldn't be a reason to stop people from shipping taekook. Because taekook is ideal for tkers, the same way vmin is ideal for vminers. It really is not about what's real or not but what does look real TO YOU, and what can you personally understand, what can you emotionally get involved with and what type of relationship dynamics you can sympathize with.
Two photos of taennie could definitely plant a seed of doubt, but in the end what you know is taekook (let's say you're a taekooker). You know how Jungkook and Taehyung talk to each other, you know how they hug, you've seen them sleeping in the same bed, cuddling, sharing food. On the other hand, you don't know anything about taennie. It's just two people taking a photo in a mirror.
So between supporting or believing in something you know vs something you don't know, I think the answer is quite clear. People will keep supporting what they've already decided looks real to them (in the case of the loveteam, it wasn't the second couple).
I don't know if you're a jikooker and if you are, I don't know how much you believe in them. But just to mention a similar example, it's how sometimes we joke about Jimin with his friends or Eunwoo, and everyone understands that it's a joke because kind of crazy because we don't really know anything about the way Jimin is with his friends. So what would make more sense to you, eunmin or jikook? Of course it's jikook.
Shipping is definitely a more widespread attitude and normalized in some countries more than others, too. Here, it's not really a thing and it's very looked down upon and ridiculed. Even straight couples. However, people love gossip. Masses won't be really interested in a love story but they will tune in for when the couple breaks up and there's drama.

In This Pairing
Original Title: Love Team
Recording Artist: Itchyworms
Orginal Language: Filipino
English Translation: Me
Okay context from wikipedia first:
In Philippine media, a love team (or loveteam) is an actor and actress depicted to the public as a romantic couple. Some of these onscreen pairs have become couples in real life. The two people in a love team often star in television series and films with their characters. It is expected that their characters will be romantically attached like in line with their public image as a romantic couple off-screen.

Manhwa crack crossover, housemate reality show edition AU
Okay, my brain won't stop feeding me various AUs. As usual, still crossover - the more the merrier, right? .
So, my country has a reality show called "PBB" or Pinoy Big Brother. It's basically a reality show where a bunch of people all over the country gets selected to live in "Kuya's" house. There, they interact with other chosen contestants and participate in tasks for charity purposes.
If there are any fellow Filipino peeps out there who knows this better than I do - because I only watch snippets - please feel free to comment, because my knowledge is very limited. I get the gist of it, but that's it.
Chosen housemates are of course, our lovely main leads.
Cue Yvonne (if you wish to use the Leila'd one) being the leech housemate who gets on the viewer's nerves but somehow still able to stay inside the house. Penelope is the one who joined to escape the Eckart family - but somehow, in an ironic twist of fate, she gets saddled with them, again. Callisto is the one who hurriedly joined the show because of Icklies's appearance - idk if this one's gonna be yandere, since Icklies doesn't really have a reason to hate her.
Athy is among the first batch of contestants, along with Penelope, Aristia - who just broke up with her ex. Athy joined the show without Claude's permission but with Lilly's - AGAIN, bonus angst points, they do not have a good relationship, because I like it that way.
Lucas is the prodigy who has too much time on his hands so he joins and he and Athy then proceeds to unintentionally make the cutest couple. IDK if you guys want to add in Ijekiel, but if you want love triangle, go off, I guess. Where LucAthy is the cute couple, PeneLlisto is the fierce one, but ultimately, I feel that PeneLlisto will be the more hilarious one. PeneLlisto starts off on the wrong foot, like the novel.
Penelope is the Preppy Queen who was made with too much sass, beauty, and brains, and little awareness of her love life.
Penelope is hilariously oblivious to Callisto's advances, so while Penelope is stating to "Kuya" just how much she is afraid of Callisto since they both grew up on the same village/block/condominium building - your choice - then being absolutely horrified at the notion that he has a thing for her and grossly misunderstanding Callisto's advances while Callisto is just over there, calling her Princess and being so caring and loveable - in his own way - I'm talking about the bear scene in the novel, kind of like that, where Callisto gives her the bear's head with no malicious intention but Penelope misinterprets it as him asking her for a duel to death. The reason for why Penelope is afraid of him is because she singlehandedly witnessed him beat the shit out of guys twice his size.
Heart-to-heart moment between Reynold and Penelope - if you wish - where Reynold asks Penelope why she ran away from home and then them resolving their issues - not quite, but at least Reynold was sensible enough to recognize his faults (unlike someone over there).
For Aristia, I'm sorry for RuveTia shippers but personally, I'm more of a SeinTia - you decide either of the three will be the ex and who will be the ending loveteam. For extra drama, Jieun can join in on the show, same to Jeannette.
Mildred (I Raised Cindrella Preciously) is the very pretty single mother - forced into the show by her daughters where they think she can gain another chance at love since the blind dates weren't working - who is ready to listen to everyone and be the mother most of them never had. Daniel is the Harvard Hottie who eventually just becomes the dad figure to the others. It is glaringly clear that Daniel is interested in Mildred, but Mildred is another level of oblivious, so let's just say they're like PeneLlisto with the exception of fierce.
Keira is the one who gained a rebellious streak and insisted on going to the reality show since Cossette's arrival to their house. Her Dad reluctantly agrees on it, and thinks nothing more of it, until he spends the rest of the show lowkey jealous over Mildred and Daniel since he realized how much of a douchebag he was to Keira.
Definitely, cue many breakdown moments for our lovestarved main leads, them bemoaning about their family situations and stuff like that.
To be honest, I can see Derrick being the first to get evicted. The guy is seriously so infuriating. I think the viewers will feel the same way we readers did.
Add the characters you also wish to be in the reality show as well as their background, and if you can, also a nickname for them - I'm shit at it, but an example is Daniel being "Harvard Hottie" - as well as the challenges and tasks for them.

Need more filo tomdaya mutuals on twt 😭
Your use of filo makes me feel so old. 🥲 That could be fun but you gotta be wary ‘cause i’ve read way too many tweets/comments in my life from overly “concerned” fangirls/shippers (fans ng loveteam) making issues out of nothing and always worrying na hindi na magjowa ang favs nila. So like anons on Tumblr but in Filipino language? 🤣

Hayop Ka!: The Nimfa Dimaano Story. The Way to Jumpstart A Possible New Wave of Filipino Animation. A Review
Making and showing Philippine-made animations is a rarity, whether it’s a film or an animated series. Even if many people dream of having more local animations, they are rarely invested, as they are more in favor with pet projects featuring artistas in loveteams or comedians. And when an animated film is being released, they will focus more on an all-star cast (a huge gamble to which of them has amazing voice acting skills) and the marketing. While there’s no problem on either of those, the main issue is whether or not the animation crew will be giving good treatment and the creation of the overall film be given the same love & care as the voice cast.
Hayop Ka! is the latest addition of a Philippine-made animation. While there is an all-star cast, the promotion was mostly spread through the trailer & stills on social media sites. I mean, who can resist such a bright, eye-catching visual? Apparently, the film took 3 years to make, which means they took the time and effort to make sure the film is well-invested and meticulously crafted.
I was really happy when the movie is finished and released on Netflix.
I watched it immediately, but I take breaks from it for reasons that I’m about to tell in this review.
Animation: Truly its strongest point. I’m so proud of our animators! The color palette is bright and colorful. The art style is easy on the eyes. The “flow” of the animation feels so natural and easy to understand all the visual cues. I love the cinematography and the fine details in it. The character designs are so good! I hope that more people will take notes from here as an example of the potential Filipino animators could make if they’re well-invested in time, effort, and money. Also, this could give people more appreciation in the arts and something to be proud of as Filipinos. I do hope that even the foreigners would like it too!
Voice Acting: It’s really good. I think it was casted well (with a certain exception of you know who). I’d like to think that the voice cast is guided well, because the way they voice out different expressions, onomatopoeia, and the pauses are well-executed. And this is coming from being a fan of both English & Japanese voice actors! And I don’t have to complain about their voices not matching their mouth flaps, unlike a certain local anime.
Humor: Pretty standard with all the puns and sexual innuendos. It is definitely not for kids! The good thing is that there’s nice execution and the subtitles manage to put something that’s closely accurate to the jokes. The only problem is that not everyone will be able to understand, especially the foreigners.
Plot: The plot is definitely something that needs working on in the future. It’s just the stereotypical story that are always featured in Filipino rom-coms and teleseryes. It’s just so predictable and triggering that I just skip a few scenes and just get to the end. There’s definitely a semblance of character development and solid motivations in the main character. But in the end, I just can’t help but dislike all of the characters. Nothing is going to justify all of their actions and decisions. The ending and the epilogue is more decent. My personal favorite scene comes after an obligatory hair-pulling cat fight.
Themes: Don’t expect anything groundbreaking and inspirational. The themes are obviously mature, and executed with little consequence. Everything is basically a farce, and the jokes are on those toxic characters. I do understand that the inspiration of the movie is from local radio dramas (pretty decent voice acting there) and possibly, the love advice corner. And the content of those are often toxic love stories and glorified kabet culture (infidelity culture). I understand that the main purpose of the movie is to showcase the potential of Filipino animation and to entertain people. It’s just that a lot of people will be triggered by the themes and for some like me, get easily tired because they are overdone. One would need to have thick skin for this.
Overall, it’s worth a watch for the visuals and a bit of crude humor. The story is too triggering for me. If you’re okay with the cliched stories and humor, then it’ll be worth a fun time for you. When it comes to its place in Philippine animation, I’d say this is the best animation film in this moment! I hope that they will inspire people to raise their standards on what the things they want to watch.
At some time in the near future, expect a few weeks that I’ll make a detailed review of all the episodes of Barangay 143. Even though there’s already a general consensus and I share the same sentiments as them, I just want to elaborate on the reasons behind these feelings.

Everytime i'm reminded of filipino cinema i get sad bc nowadays its saturated w loveteams and brain damage inducing films esp when big productions networks are involved but if u just dig deeper and search for independent creators u will discover so many hidden gems, actors, directors, story tellers who truly live and love the craft and it's very sad because that's so overlooked in the philippines!!! So much talent!!! So much potential!!!!!!!! All going to waste!!!!!!!!!
