Summary:of Five Armies, Thorin decides to take responsibility for what has happened to Bilbo, and leaves for the Shire to tell the Thain of what had transpired. The only problem is...is that Thorin has no clue what a "Thain" is exactly, and why he needs to tell him of what happened to Bilbo.

My thoughts: There's something very sweet about taking over another's duties until they are well enough to perform them again.

The fact that The Hobbit is such a lighthearted family-friendly book, especially when compared to LOTR, actually breaks my heart when you consider that it is Bilbo’s writing. That journey was anything but a fun trip for him. He went through real dangers and horrifying moments. He saw violence for the first time. At the end of it, he lost his love. And he went home traumatized, heartbroken, and forever changed.

Yet when he wrote the story down, he emphasized the more successful and fun parts, and glossed over the depth of his pain and grief when the losses happened (even leaving Fíli and Kíli’s deaths to a throwaway line.)

Because what else could he have done? Nobody else could possibly understand his pain. Bilbo wasn’t like Frodo. He didn’t have a Sam who he shared the experience with and could talk to about it every day afterward, to help him work through writing down the details of the darker parts of the story. And his other friends lived far away and could only visit occasionally.

And the hobbit children were all full of wonder about Elves and dwarves and trolls, so he put the focus on that.

I feel like that was his way of dealing with his trauma.

Congratulations on reaching 10k followers on Instagram! I hope you'll continue to amaze us with your art (and not just with Bagginshield; your Wolverine and Deadpool are awesome too 🔥).

P.S. It was mentioned that we could add something in the background, so I decided to include some of my favorite headcanons to the reshirement AU. The idea that Fili and Kili used to laugh throughout their childhood and, as adults, grumbled about Uncle Thorin always being so responsible and protective of them, promising themselves they would never be like that. But then, when they saw this tiny-small-little hobbit, they ended up becoming extremely responsible uncles themselves. (Thorin will definitely gloat about this in a letter to Dis). Also, there’s a headcanon that Hobbits and Dwarves have different ideas about modesty. Dwarves believe you can marry whoever and however you like, but all signs of affection should be kept behind closed doors. Meanwhile, Hobbits took a long time to get used to the fact that Bilbo Baggins brought a male Dwarf into the house, but they have absolutely no objections to hugs or kisses in public.

Summary: There are many trials for a hobbit attempting to make a life among dwarves. A hobbit wants a garden. A hobbit wants to eat regular meals. A hobbit wants friends, good books, and comfortable chairs. Bilbo does his best to carve out a little hobbit life for himself in the mountain. If only there were not one final obstacle. For a hobbit heart wants love, and among dwarves that is a sticky subject.

My thoughts: I like it when the other Hobbits get involved. Also they are so verbose.
