keeping it together

The first time it happens, you’ll be on your way to work. A man’s walking toward you, all hungry grin, and just as you’re passing each other, he snaps his teeth click. A drop of saliva lands on your skin. You’ll roll your eyes and hold your bag tighter but as you’re boarding the subway you notice: you’re missing a finger. Well, I have nine others, you’ll think. The next time it’s your sister, passing the table you’ve reserved for that dinner, because you two have grown different faces, as adults. It’s hard to recognize each other these days. That one will take a toll on your stomach: wake up the next morning to half your torso missing. Not much blood, just a gap where it used to be. The next is soon after, when your office closes down and your boyfriend doesn’t want this whole thing, after all. An eye will roll out at your first job interview, and your Tinder date has to hand you your tongue. It’ll go back in, you say for the both of you, but your throat’s tasting more and more of copper. When your friend’s diagnosed or your ceiling starts to crumble, you don’t think you can lose any more -- but, as if right on schedule, an ear drops off and then both your legs. Later that night, as you’re shoving them deep in the trashcan, you’ll wonder: How am I going to get to work? Your hands are red.

Tuesday, May 1, 2012 A ride with a Light. The Beauty is released of her weighted chains, Restraints synthesized from my selfish troubles. I ponder the thought of happiness and contentment. Short lived it is, as I shift gears forward. As the Melodies and Wardrums intensify their pressure So dose my lead base on the ghastly lever. I am unknowing to the reason why I hault Parallel to the Hell blackened path of travel. This roadside in the middle of nowhere but somewhere, Fitting enough a fainting place as any could be. I rest up upon the trunk, glaring toward, upward. The summer warmed creepily persistent night breeze envelopes me. Feelings of the fallen overtake me, no struggle given. "Skyward Star why not simply blackout, burnout, Fallout? Give up the bothersome chore of lighting the night and sleep." Words foreign, yet the feelings are not unknown to I. Eye, sees a young man making unflinching steps, Stepping toward the now bubbling tar pit trap, He grins fiendishly. Lights, Melodies, Wardrums and Battle Horns close in, Godspeed. The Star, enlightened by the ensuing collision, steps grinning Fabeledly. Steps backward away from the premature burial, misplayed trap of "DOOM". Snarling, the seducing winds of doubt roar along. "Too soon Loo. Surely a prince can do better than so. My Light, Our Light, deserves to shine on with is mediocre brilliance." The chariot teasingly screeches to life, I continue onward, upward. I intensify the Melodies, Wardrums and smirk furiously happy. The thoughts happy, foreign, but not entirely alien. Joyful enough to show the Beauty, The Me. Courage by the bounds, run thru the night Lights, The Me. Skillful more, to battle on with the life's light struggles, The Me. Tired enough, I end up in the keep with You, The Me. Despite the day, days, I'm not happy or sad but content And wiling to Love, Hate, Sing, Scream, Dance, Fight, Walk, Run, Build, Destroy, all while shining bright. The Star, The Me...The End.
