Summary: If it hadn’t been for Wangji’s definite preoccupation with that one particular guest disciple, Xichen might never have noticed the… discrepancies. Kay's comments: Was craving some slightly dark Lan Clan and revisted this story recently. I really loved the angle that something was clearly a little off with Wei Wuxian's education. He's a celestial fox, who should have been seen as a boon by the Jiangs and yet, something was wrong. Not friendly to the Jiangs and the Lans are darker, since they are dragons and give in to their hoarding instincts. Featuring a smitten Wangxian during the Cloud Recesses Study Arc. Also, really fun to have the story from Lan Xichen's POV! Excerpt: He bows to Xichen like they were equals, like they were both heirs to one of the major sects. When Wei Wuxian certainly isn’t. Come to think of it… Xichen tilts his head in thought. Wei Wuxian bows to Xichen just as Jiang Wanyin does, the exact same angle and depth and time holding the bow. Almost like Wei Wuxian might have copied said bow straight off his brother. Almost like he might not have been taught differently and was certainly never corrected in his behavior. It is at that point, after their first few interactions, a few conversations full of bright, genuine laughter and just slightly off manners, that Xichen starts noticing the discrepancies. The discrepancies of someone supposedly raised amongst gentry – alongside an heir to one of the major sects, no less – but who so clearly doesn’t have the expected ease of a firm and steady education, certainly not in regards to sect politics. It is something anyone of the main houses would be expected to know, but which Wei Wuxian simply doesn’t, committing faux-pas after faux-pas, though never grave enough to be confronted about it and also clearly without intent, but rather because he simply doesn’t seem to know better.

Kay so I’ve read through pretty much everything on ao3 at this point, here are some of my faves in no particular order! This list is a work in progress. I hope you guys enjoy these as much as I have.

Kakuzu takes the diagnosis better than Hidan does. In fact, while Hidan demands to know why there isn’t a cure, threatens and cajoles and curses and clutches his rosary, Kakuzu - says nothing at all.

In Limbs and Joints by orphan_account

Being in solitary confinement saves Hidan and Kakuzu from the most severe impacts of the sudden zombie hordes wreaking havoc all over the continent. With no one else but each other to rely on, they tread into this new world where they are newly free yet not without challenges.

Half Agony, Half Hope by Devilfangs

After a particularly bad fight, Kakuzu is left heavily injured. As Hidan treats him, he comes to terms with the changing nature of their relationship and what that means for the both of them.

This one is majorly gaalee and sasodei BUT kakuhida make their appearances. Seriously, it’s so good. Very lengthy and still ongoing but definitely worth a read.

We're a Chance Left Untaken (And We'll Probably Always Be) I'm still just really proud of this fic? I still love the story, and I'm so proud of myself for wrapping it up in a month. Plus, we all know I love a good ghost story. 😁

A Winter's Fury I said what I said. I know I'm a proud member of the Murder Corner/Angst Attic, but this was the first time what I was writing really got to me, too? I know a lot of y'all still haven't forgiven me for this one, but that's part of why I'm so proud/fond of it. 🖤

Winter Cleaning Specifically the first chapter, but I still love the whole story. But it's that first chapter that always gets me: that moment of intimacy where she washes his hair, what it means to him and her not fully understanding that until later. That image of him leaning against the little tub just sticks with me.

A Soulmate's Silence It was a fun fic to work on, and that moment where Marinette realizes/Silencer takes over is still one of my favorite scenes I've written.

Hey Stupid There's so much going on with this fic and I just love it. I loved working on it. I still love rereading it. It's just an all-around fav. 🖤

Dragon Age Fic Recs!

I have been sadly languishing on fic recs, so here are some fics I've read (or reread) that I've loved. <3

Wildflowers and Twine (Carver/Merrill) by @luddlestons - 5.7k words - E - Merrill is into rope bondage, and Carver is into letting her tie him up! I love fics where Merrill challenges the ‘innocent’ impression that people have, and she is just so cheerfully practical about it. I adore.

on the sly (Crassius Servis/Sister Tanner) by cartographicalspine - 9.4k words - T - Mission fic!!!! Two slippery rogues (one mage, admittedly!) and scoundrels tossed together to recover smuggled goods for the Inquisition! Banter! Undercover as married! So much to make me rub my gleeful hands together!

Embargo (Isabela/Merrill) by @the-cryptographer - 2k words - M - Isabela and Merill scavenging for valuables and cheating each other out of the profits. Character study and Merrill continuing to place her bets on Isabela, even when she’s cheated. <3

A Little Light Reading by @antivan-beau - 1.9k words - T - The Kirkwall gang try to convince Anders to publish his sex grimoire, because sometimes a fic is a pile of lewd jokes with a heartwarming postscript that whammies you in the feels.

anatomy of a haunted heart (Nathaniel/Velanna) by @carnalapples - 14.6k words - E - A really gorgeous haunted time loop and character study, with Nathaniel and Velanna trapped in Vigil’s Keep during the false Calling. Atmospheric, bittersweet and lovely.

Arcane Deflection (Harding/Dagna) by @settiai - 2.7k words - T - Short, sweet, and charming. Just like the ship! Short slice of life moments as Lace is assigned to escort Dagna in the field.

Brushwork (Nicoline/Vivienne, Bastien/Vivienne, F!Adaar Vivienne) by @h1bernate - 7.8k words - M - Truly fabulous use of POV across different chapters to show Vivienne at different points in her life, exquisite prose, and excellent character study. There is so much to love in this fic!

oh OH okay OKAY

I'm not the biggest angst girlie (more so a fluff girlie, especially if it's domestic fluff) but if It does have Angst I would prefer hurt/comfort because I can't handle pure angst or I will cry violently. Oh and I hate Miscommunication but that's because logically we know what the others are doing most likely but the characters don't so it just makes me want to scream.

A.k.a my Angst preference is like no super hard hurt no comfort because I can take Angst like almost dying and getting injured and stuff but I like there to be a side of comfort with it. also as long as there's no major character death, non-con, or underage stuff I'm pretty sure I can handle it.

Fav fic tropes however is a fun one and so I will list some that I have enjoyed:

Marriage proposals/weddings (like those are my favorite things and I can not explain why, Jay can let you know that It is in fact my bread and butter

Fake Dating is also a good one especially if it turns into real dating (I've read a 45k word one-shot about Buck and Eddie fake dating to go to Buck's parents' retirement party cause Buck didn't want to deal with his parents alone while Maddie is also trying to deal with their parents and it was so beautifully written my god I finished it in one 5 hour sitting it was wild)

Friends to lovers is also a favorite of mine because while some people are enemies to lovers fans I just prefer the opposite (and in Buck and Eddie's case I love the speedrunning friends to fiancés for them!!)

if it's a father figure/maternal figure and their perceived adoptive child story I love ones where they explicitly get told that the other sees them like a son/daughter or a mother/father like those are so good for me to read and it's why I love Buck and Bobby's dynamic so much because Buck says in the 9-1-1 and 9-1-1 lone star crossover that Bobby is kind of like his father figure AND IT'S JUST I need these two to actually have a conversation about it okay

also any stories that do like good character introspection about characters' backstories and their connections to people like I love me a good character study LIKE ONE TIME I READ A ONE-SHOT ABOUT BUCK AND HIS RELATIONSHIP TO ALMOST DYING AND IT WAS SO-

Sickfics are also a trope I love because I just love seeing characters get taken care of. The trust needed to have someone else take care of you while you're in a state that makes you achy and hurt and just genuinely miserable feeling just is so nice to me, especially since this trope can be used Platonically and Romantically it's just a good over-all trope.

This also feeds into another trope I like called a character gets a breakdown and gets comforted and held like that is my favorite trope and I think it shows sometimes, sue me I like comfort.

My guilty pleasures are Chatfics/social media aus because those are fun to just breeze through and you don't have to really worry too much about typos because you can fix them in the story as a character fixing their own typo and I know they're not everyone's cup of tea but they're just so fun for me to read personally.
