Kakashi and Naruto runs off to save him but don’t get to him in time?

Iruka is basically abused and tortured and tossed into a house to care/raise the shinobi children. Iruka basically goes fuck it and decide that if he’s raising their children he’ll do it right and starts to clean them, feed them and teaching them to read and write meanwhile the leaders of grass are all like, what’s this shit? Teach them become useful weapons! And Iruka is furious because he’s doing exactly what they stole him for, exactly what he was doing in konoha (loving, teaching and caring for the next generation). All the while making grass a better place to live for all the people in grass, not just the ones strong enough to subdue the others.

There’s also some feral monster child that Iruka basically “tames” running wild in the grassy plains and while Iruka can’t help caring for and loving the children he’s put in charge of, he never stop trying to get back to konoha.

Meanwhile Kakashi and Naruto basically go rouge and runs off to save Iruka because f politics and basically gets in time to stop Iruka from being executed because he rocked the power a bit too much by basically demanding that class or status didn’t matter and everyone should be treated with care and dignity.

Random things I remember:

The Grass ninja were basically ninja on horseback. Grass was full of wild/half-wild horses

Iruka was allergic to the grass or something

I think there was a footnote on the monster childs name that it meant “tooth” or something

Iruka charmed (befriended) his guard and got him to open up and interact with the children, there was a scene where he ate (or pretended to eat) a grasshopper.
