I love the whole concept that all the mortals by the late third age have this idea of elves as these serene, calm, wise and peaceful beings. Like at the council of Elrond and the like they all see the elves as inherently great givers of advice with the bigger picture at heart. Imagine if someone from then read a book on the first age. Like Faramir being exposed to Elrond’s records after he leaves for Valinor and thinking are these really the same species? Why are they setting everything on fire? Was the founder of Numenor really raised by these people? Did the calm lord Elrond really hold a knife to that guys throat? They are all completely feral and bloodthirsty and possess no basic judgement skills. Frodo getting to Valinor and being invited to a party at Finrod’s house. Expecting a deep cryptic discussion on lore and feeling out of place among all these dignified ethereal legends. And like ten minutes in people are playing drinking games with knives and fire. Frodo expects Lord Elrond to be shocked at his relatives behaviour but finds him in a knife throwing competition with the former high king. He seems to be winning. He also sees what seems to be two high kings making out in the stairwell. His last hope is Galadriel whose now in an intense bar fight with three of her cousins. Her husband is cheering her on from the corner.
The elves are not actually inherently wise. They just made all the mistakes and learnt from them after about the fifth attempt.

#solavellan#solas#gotta put out some tender stuff to balance the chaos target team leader solas has caused.#look i just need to go feral in the tags for a moment#okay the fucking. what's he call himself? the great adversary of her people's mythology....falls in love w a woman being forced into a role#not unlike his own#i t makes me c r a z y#like at one point he's all ooooh we're elves need to make sure the humans trust us to ensure safety. gives them a castle......#then he's all ''ooh you cant change the way your legend is getting out of hand. might as well accept it''#but he disapproves if you lean into it/call yourself the herald.#he approves of you fighting against the status quo. encourages sera to sow chaos and has a VERY interesting convo w her about power#''what lop of the top?'' ''yes.'' ''well what's that do except make room for a new top to come and fuck it all up?''#at which point he fuckin STUTTERS and is like. oh fuck. you're right. my bad. and then he shuts up in quiet contemplation#he's clearly wrestling w himself. and Ohmygod the felassanstuff.#like the Guilt. the Regret.#haunting that fucking rotunda.#and yet he's so in love w lavellan if they go that route.#like clearly some stuff was missing/fumbled in game. but like#how he fuckin screams for the inquisitor at the well?????!?! OK BOI?!#im just. the dread wolf. great adversary of the dalish pantheon.#turns out to be some somber grim guy with a fatalistic sense of humor who hates tea and greatly values free will#pina art

In deference to my recent bout of shitposting, have a daily reminder that Tolkien's half-elves have no happy ending and no matter what they choose, they'll still lose part of their family forever. They'll always be split between two people, neither fully one or the other, yet forced to pick one and lose the other

The Moonshadow Elves in The Dragon Prince really take so much from the night elves (and nightborne) of World of Warcraft and between that and how much I've been watching Avatar (James Cameron) recently I just keep thinking what if Rayla had fangs
What if all the Moonshadow elves really did have sharpened incisors
It would explain all the stories that both humans and other elves tell about them having fangs (which in canon is an extrapolation of the Cult of the Blood Moon drinking blood, which apparently inevitably creates a bit of vampire-like mythos)
Rayla mentions they're primarily vegetarian, but there are other fanged creatures that share the trait - fruit bats, which eat a lot of the same type of things as they do and are also nocturnal, being one of them
I'm just saying the crew and also the fandom have an opportunity here to really commit to the weird
Moonshadow elves respond to any threat with immediate murder and shroud themselves in mystery and ritual to pretend they're not feral already
Just imagine little Ezran and Callum from season 1 demanding why Rayla has sharp teeth if she's a vegetarian and she just huffs about how they're for biting through fruit, thank you very much
Rayla trapped by Amaya's shield and hissing, baring her little fangs at the General
Runaan just curling a lip to show larger, sharper fangs when Viren comes to taunt him
Callum and Rayla's first kisses having the added awkwardness of "Callum forgot that fangs are sharp" and he yelps and Rayla almost wants to hide about it
Callum making it a point in the later seasons when they're comfortably back together again to say he likes her teeth. and her horns. and everything about her, really, it's not weird -
Lyrennus hissing and baring his fangs at Rayla during the Ritual of the New Moon when he loses his temper
Realizing we've never seen Ethari that feral until he's showing his in the background in response
Runaan never showing his teeth through season 7, showing how off-balance and shattered he is, until the final battle where he's knocked down and we see him snarl at Claudia as Rayla takes his place
Tumblr media
Consider this face
Tumblr media
But like this (Tyrande Whisperwind, if anyone's curious, High Priestess/de facto ruler of the night elves)
Tumblr media
or this (First Arcanist Thalyssra of the nightborne)
Tumblr media
Took surprisingly long to find a male example that's still a true night elf (Malfurion Stormrage)
but yeah
Tumblr media
Imagine this face showing teeth

I just realized that Morgoth and Miriel were in the halls at the same time. And you can bet your ass Miriel spent 95% of the time tormenting him for all the shit he pulled.
Morgoth: *sees the transparent form of Miriel approach* awe, such a cute elf-
Miriel: *snarls and snaps jaws*
Morgoth: *shrieks* GET YOUR FUCKING ELF, BITCH!
Mandos: she don’t bite.
Morgoth/Miriel: YES, SHE DO!

Despite my love hate relationship with this game, Lucanis has won mine (and my rook's) heart. The brainrot is so real and so is my writing degree have some tidbits and screenshots for free. Rook is Hanina Mercer (Hanina meaning 'your glory') a dalish foundling sold into "adoption" to a insignificant military family trying to get a one-up by adding new mage blood into the mix. Was briefly an abomination herself when possessed by a rage demon (I stg I didn't even know Lucanis had a demon I'd purposefully avoided spoilers before launch) with fire now being her expertise. She's gregarious, sarcastic (purple rook my beloved), and deadly in a fight. The orb & blade combo is so hot both literally and figuratively. The playful headstrong mage switching to unabashed concern and care on a dime -- Lucanis did not stand a chance. And honestly neither did she because NO ONE has ever offered Hanina 'Rook' Mercar anything without wanting something in return and they certainly have never cooked a fucking meal for her. Anyway I just think the moral dilemma of an elven child being taken from her original parents and facing a terrible fate only to be given quality housing, food, education, etc all with the understanding it's only because of her blood is mind-bending -- especially when she joins the Shadow Dragons with the purpose of freeing more of her "true people" only to be faced with the choice of saving her "home" or Treviso; a choice that will end up hurting her more than she cares to admit no matter what she decides. All while she's tasked with saving all of Thedas from the ancient gods of the people she was forcibly disconnected from so many years before.

Sorely tempted to run your typical high-fantasy game of D&D so I can fulfill my worldbuilding dreams of just making elves Weird
Like, oh, high elves are isolationist and snooty and live far away from people and are usually characterized as being calm and emotionless? Great, let's make them live in the mountains and wear fluffy coats for flavor, and let's also take the "elves are tall and skinny" thing and make high elves Uncanny-Valley levels of tall and skinny, complete with blank white eyes and a tendency to speak in unison when in groups. Make it so they deliberately suppress their emotions in favor of cold, hard logic, and make it so they're so disconnected from time due to their lifespan and their environment that they truly feel like relics of the past.
Wood elves live in the forest and are big nature people but aren't that different from high elves usually, and also elves as a whole come from the Feywild? Awesome, let's give them cat's eyes, claws, and tufts of fur at the end of their ears, make their teeth a little sharp and pointed, and throw in some green blood for good measure. They're our baseline elves, so some of them might live in cities and some of them might live in the forest, but make it so being a jack-of-all-trades is part of their culture, so they tend to have insanely niche knowledge of an insane amount of useful skills. Hell, make them a little bit chaotic and freespirited, moving away from the "I am calm and at one with nature" thing and more towards a "nature is a force that will fuck you up and I embody that" thing.
Drow live in the Underdark, an underground realm that's filled to the brim with weird-ass Aberrations and all-around freaky creatures, and worship a spider goddess? Perfect, let's make it so their purple/blue skin is something that's meant to help them blend into the Underdark and that their white hair is a blessing from said spider goddess, and let's take some inspiration from The Magnus Archives and spin their spider aesthetic into a culture that values charm, family, and forming "webs of connections---" and this can mean anything from making a drow character who's just a really nice person who wants to make friends to making a drow character who's straight-up a mafia boss. Make it so that because they live underground and are therefore closer to a lot of natural resources, they're more technologically advanced, but also make it so they've embraced the weirdness of the Underdark, creating a steampunk-meets-Lovecraft society where there's radio towers made in part with the psionic powers of mind flayers and trains created combining machinery with the carcasses of Aboleths. Maybe all of this weirdness is why people are so scared of the Underdark---a lack of understanding, rather than drow being genuinely evil by default. But also... make drow a little bit too charming, a little bit too used to how alien their home is, and have them feel like they're time travelers who've gone back in time and are just a tiny bit lost. They're disconnected from time like high elves, but in a completely different direction.
Idk, man, I just. Elves should be weird.

‘more dangerous and less wise’ I’m sorry WHAT!? Is Tolkien seriously trying to tell us that the freaking Sindar are the feral ones out of all the Elven races? After the entire First Age? As for more dangerous, Galadriel is still here. You know, Feanor 2.0 the only one that actually survived. Using the Elven metric for being batshit insane yes, Mirkwood is weird, but not swearing blood oaths, setting everything on fire, murdering everyone in sight, telling the gods to go fuck themselves, challenging gods to one on one combat insane.
The line of Oropher isn’t even Thingol levels of mental. They’ve never even touched a silmaril or a ring of power! They’re downright sensible by first age standards! They’re arrogant sure, they have low self preservation instincts and seem pretty xenophobic (dwarf stuff). Also depending on your point of view there might be colonist undertones. All of which is just toned down versions of the First Age Sindar. They probably have developed weird customs from living in the murder forest so long and being pretty isolated but there’s nothing to indicate they’re all that bad. I mean they’re still alive and they’re holding on to their kings at a relatively steady rate.
I absolutely agree with takes going around that this is some sort of deliberate protection technique they have to ward off trespassers and that Thranduil is sitting there in his cave coming up with rumours to spread about all the messed up things they do to people. Because in the book they seem kind of chill? And this becomes a million times more funny to me if he bases the rumours off stuff he heard about from Elrond.
As in ‘Yeah we totally eat giant spider meat, that’s definitely a thing we do,’ and everyone’s reacting as horrified and scared or not falling for it while Elrond’s believing every word and just looks sympathetic, ‘Aww you guys have food shortages? I hear you, supplies were pretty shit during all that destruction of an entire continent in the War of Wrath. You know if you wanted more options I wouldn’t recommend raw orc meat before you build up a tolerance but I can defo show you how to butcher them properly!’ Thranduil just staring back at him like ‘Fuck you. I was trying to make up some story to scare children at night with, you guys actually did this shit? How hard is it to come up with something you fucking Noldor haven’t done already?!’
And also: Thranduil proceeds to take out a notepad, ‘Ok so tell me again about what the kinslayers did to interrogate those prisoners?’ And Elrond replies, ‘Oh, that wasn’t Maglor and Maedhros, that was a story about Gil Galad’s army in the War of Wrath.’ Thranduil ‘I’m sorry WHAT the actual fuck.’ Elrond nodding understandingly ‘Too much for the Third Age?’ Thranduil rapidly taking notes ‘No it’s perfect keep it coming.’

fully off topic i'm just thinking of who made getting into fandoms hard for me. i have it in my rules but i do HATE harry potter and all that it entails. i was a HUGE fan of the wizarding world (i was drawing fanart, posting fanfics, crossovers, roleplay blogs, cosplay, the whole nine-yards) until JKR couldn't stop spreading misinformation about trans people (trans women in particular), autism, and so much more. i strongly side-eye people that don't think engaging with harry potter (without being critical) content is wrong, the world of harry potter itself is extremely questionable, backwards, full of bigotry & hate, and generally poorly written. even ignoring the author cannot remove all the terribly handled parts of harry potter (cho chang, luna, seamus, filch, and so much more)

Oh yea and one of the reasons why I asked how big as ponti cult was, was there anyone else that could've impose him/give him a fair 1v1 fight besides mangule. During the beginning of the cult was it like some people that didn't want him to rule so they challenged and he put them in their place?
YEAH im sure there were plenty of larger monsters who would challenge Ponti for leadership but they simply didnt have the bloodlust and years of training to brutally kill that Ponti had so Ponti merely saw it as a good opportunity to showcase not only his power and authority but also a warning to all the other monsters of what would happen to them if they dared to do the same 🤔

I really like the idea of omegaverse stuff being elf specific because of how confusing it’d be to outsiders. Nords just like “yeah sometimes the mer go a little fuck crazy. it’s kind of scary honestly.”
I think it’s so funny if it’s an elf+khajiit thing (Argonians get their own thing). Nords can’t figure out why some elves have obvious bite marks for a time. Or an elf with a human partner wondering how this works and if they should bite or not??? And this isn’t even getting into mer being able to smell pheromones this they have a whole new mode of communications men don’t have and can’t pick up on
