there is something so warm about how 806 ended.

i've always seen buck as someone who just wants to go home. and that's not with maddie, anymore, and he loves the 118 but they all have their own homes outside of each other. and buck dates and he goes home with people and he asks them to come home with him. to move in, or whatever. and sometimes it works out for him. he has a home with abby, for a little bit, even when she stops coming home. taylor and him last the better part of a season(s) and he brings her around even when they are not working, until they stop working. tommy and him 'work' for a while and buck thinks to himself, maybe this is it. he could love him, one day. and he says "move in with me," and he wants tommy to come home to home. and tommy says the whole "your first, not your last," and buck just wants to be someone's last. he wants to go home to someone. he wants to be someone else's home.

and so tommy will not be home for him. and buck reacts to this by going home. to eddie. because he hasn't realized it yet, but he has a home.

and eddie???

eddie likes the domestic, he likes his home. and he thinks he needs to replace a shannon sized hole in his life with a woman, a mother for chris, someone his parents will approve of. and he's made himself someone who other people expect him to be. he is so defined by his labels: husband, father, combat medic, firefighter. that is who he is. he keeps everything else, everything that keeps him up at night locked firmly behind a locked door.

and now he's got a priest telling him his suffering is not necessary, that eddie should seek out joy, to be frivolous. and he does, and eddie (hopefully) is going to start thinking about what he wants. who he is, when the labels are gone and it is him and those god forsaken mid calf socks.

and 9-1-1 on ABC goes look. he's opening a door. and buck comes home.
