Something about the peace and quiet of the last few minutes of the "before" in Mulder and Scully's relationship... of seeing them moments before they take that step.
Neither of them probably know what's about to happen. They're just so soft and sweet and comfortable together, and the sweet babies have no idea that everything will change overnight.
Mulder certainly doesn't expect her to wake up and find him. He just takes in the little moments after she falls asleep, and you can so clearly see how much he loves her. He looks at her lips, like he wishes he could kiss her, probably having no idea that very soon, he will.
And the next morning is peaceful too. Rainy, dark, quiet. Mulder is sleeping like a baby, because FINALLY they've taken a step forward. And it's so natural too, I know it is.
All Things, the episode that you are.

@jegulus-microfic january 26, delivery, 221 words
Friday night had become their weekly virtual date night, him and James both putting on the same movie and only half paying attention to it while they chat on the phone from their respective sides of the country.
Long distance has been hard, but it helps that they know it’s not forever, that in a little over a month the semester will be over and Regulus will be back home; in London and in James’ arms. In the meantime, they make time where they can.
He’s due to call James in about ten minutes, when the doorbell rings. He assumes it’s Evan coming over to see Barty, but Regulus’ room is closer so he rolls off his bed to answer it.
It’s not Evan.
“Special delivery,” James says, his smile blinding.
Regulus surprises even himself when, instead of throwing himself into James’ arms, he bursts into tears in the doorway of his flat. James’ arms are around him in a second, tucking Regulus into his chest as he presses a kiss to Regulus’s hair.
“It’s okay,” James whispers, a hand coming up to cradle the back of his head.
“I missed you,” Regulus cries into his chest.
“I missed you, too.”
And just like that, Regulus feels the pieces of himself slotting back together, whole for the first time in months.
