TRUMP OPENS FIRE ON THE MEDIA
TCinLA
Dec 17, 2024
The point is not necessarily winning. The point is fear. Now that Disney has surrendered and paid their initiation fee, Trump is ready to commit more extortion, er, I mean start more lawsuits.
In his rambling fact-challenged press conference yesterday, Trump targeted Bob Woodward, CBS, and the Pulitzer Board for awarding its 2018 Prize to the New York Times and the Washington Post for their coverage of Trump’s campaign, the Steele Dossier, and the Mueller investigation into Russian interference with the 2016 election. Trump also described recent visits from Apple CEO Tim Cook, Google co-founder Sergey Brin, and other tech barons. “In the first term, everyone was fighting me. In this term, everyone wants to be my friend.”
On Monday night, less than 48 hours after securing a $15 million settlement from ABC News, Trump filed a lawsuit in Iowa District Court accusing venerated pollster Ann Selzer and her polling company - and well as The Des Moines Register and its parent company, Gannett - of “brazen election interference” and “consumer fraud” over her November 2 poll showing Kamala Harris winning by 3 points in Iowa.
Whether Seltzer’s polling error constitutes an “election-interfering fiction,” as the suit alleges, is now the question before a Polk County court. Iowa lacks an anti-SLAPP law, a protection that gives judges the ability to swiftly toss out frivolous attacks on free speech. Trump’s newest legal adventure leans on an extremely aggressive reading of Iowa’s consumer fraud law intended to prevent businesses from making misrepresentations to deceive purchasers.
Selzer’s spent three decades in the polling business and boasts an A+ rating from Nate Silver, Her sterling reputation was the main reason why many in Washington and the media took her startling Iowa result at least somewhat seriously. Even among veteran political operators who wrote off the Harris +3 number as an outlier, the prospect that pollsters might be significantly undercounting Democratic votes fomented a temporary media narrative that Kamala’s campaign had crucial momentum heading into the final days of the race.
Two weeks after the election, Selzer announced she would be retiring from the polling business to explore “other ventures and opportunities,”a decision she said she made last year. “Would I have liked to make this announcement after a final poll aligned with Election Day results? Of course,” she wrote in a guest essay for The Des Moines Register. “It’s ironic that it’s just the opposite.”
Trump was still fuming over the last-minute narrative shift that the poll generated. He now appears eager to run up the score.
Ahead of filing the lawsuit Monday evening, Trump previewed his plans in an afternoon press conference. “We have to straighten out our press,” he said. “Our press is very corrupt, almost as corrupt as our elections.”
Besides the ABC News suit, Trump is suing CBS News for $10 billion for the way it edited Bill Whitaker’s 60 Minutes interview with Harris - claiming the edited broadcast amounted to “partisan and unlawful acts of election and voter interference.” He is now pursuing a case against the Pulitzer Prize board for awards to journalists from The New York Times and Washington Post who investigated his ties to Russia during the 2016 campaign.
Never before has a candidate sued a pollster for setting off a negative news cycle. Typically, if a pollster is wrong, their reputation suffers, but they are rarely blamed for damaging a campaign.
The Des Moines Register said they stand by their reporting and believe a lawsuit would be “without merit.” It will be interesting to see what Gannet does here - they are a major company in the news business without other corporate interests.
As with Trump’s other lawsuits against media organizations, the objective isn’t to win but to intimidate.
Litigation is expensive for all parties, especially in high-profile cases such as those involving a former and future president, even if the suit is ultimately found to be frivolous. There is also the burden of the discovery process, which is always invasive and frequently ugly. Already, nervousness is spreading, with media companies preparing for litigation targeting journalists, including charges like defamation or even violations of the Espionage Act. Axios recently told its staff to expect an increased number of lawsuits from the Trump administration.
The fact that Trump has filed litigation against Selzer, and 60 Minutes could undercut his argument he’s too busy as president-elect to shoulder the burdens of civil litigation.
The two dominant theories about ABC’s surrender are that either Trump has unearthed potentially damaging information or correspondence at ABC News that Disney doesn’t want revealed, or that this is CEO Bob Iger’s gesture to Trump to avoid his vengeance and the lightning-rod spectacle of a public trial against a sitting president. Iger, since he returned to Disney, has been willing to placate the right to keep the company out of its crosshairs He knows he can’t give $1 million to Trump’s inauguration without causing an internal firestorm, and he hasn’t made his own tail-between-legs pilgrimage to Mar-A-Lago. But he knows this settlement is a way to buy some insurance for the next four years. The question is how much goodwill it actually buys. If Trump sees an opportunity to benefit from attacking Disney, he’ll do it, regardless of Disney’s surrender.
Michelle Goldberg wrote of these events, Collectively, all these elite decisions to bow to Trump make it feel like the air is going out of the old liberal order. In its place will be something more ruthless and Nietzschean.”
Anne Applebaum, an expert on descents into authoritarianism, said, “Many people assumed in the past that the news media in the United States was too big, too diverse, and too complex to be intimidated.”
So much for that cornerstone of democracy.
“When bad men combine, the good must associate; else they will fall one by one, an unpitied sacrifice in a contemptible struggle.” - Edmund Burke
“You were given the choice between war and dishonour. You chose dishonour, and you will have war.' - Winston Churchill

-Blackstone's Formula.
-Feedom of Speech/Self Defense/Property/Privacy, etc.
-Your elected officials being held accountable (in theory at least).
All of that is from a biblical basis. Do your homework on the 20&30 year olds who wrote the Declaration of Independence. They were actively responding to the crisis at the time put upon them by a totalitarian government. Gee. Wonder how they came to these ideas based on what moral philosophy? Oh right. Protestantism. A religion that said no to an earthly central authority having ultimate reign. Gee. Maybe figure out where the ideas came from rather than just hating on an entire religion.
I literally do not care what the Bible says about any political issue. I am not Christian. Christian scripture should have zero effect on my life or my personal freedoms.

Keep speaking up!
Remember: "Too Political" is a euphemism for "Too Liberal"! If someone says you, your lessons, your views or your goals are "Too Political" they aren't angry at the politics, they're angry at the side in which you have chosen to stand! Keep speaking up in the classroom! Keep speaking up in the lecture hall! Keep speaking up at the dinner table! Keep speaking up online! If people get angry, it's working. Those who wish to close their ears to the truth are useless and wasting their lives. Comfort over truth and justice should NEVER be a human goal.
Keep speaking up!
"Politics have no place in the classroom--Especially English/Literature class--"
Politics and literature go hand in hand! What do you think think Literature is???
"This is not the place to say this"--
Then WHEN and WHERE, if not NOW? It's a silencing tactic. That's what feedom of speech really is!
Keep speaking up!
Do not let yourself be intimidated into silence. People need you. The biggest lie you were ever told is that you are just one person. If you were to die, many people would be affected by your passing. Many would mourn you. Many would wish you would return to them. So, use the same logic when speaking up, protesting and boycotting. Your voice will reach many, many ears and many more hearts. Some will ignore you and others will listen. So...
KEEP SPEAKING UP!

Okay so I have finally formed a concrete opinion after Chapter 121 on Eren and about the Rumbling (which seems to be Eren's plan). It's quite long but bear with me because I still have doubts about these and I need y'all to help me to see the loopholes here.
•Now, first things first, is Eren the "villain"? Hell no. There are no villains or heroes in this story and Eren does fit into the "anti-hero" genre but to brand him as a "villain" is foolish. I'm not white washing him. Of course, declaring war on the whole world is not justified but genocide? That is also horribly wrong. So it comes down to a clash of perspectives. Zeke,Grisha, Karl Fritz and Frieda- all of them are pacifists. That "I'd go along well with her" doesn't only imply Frike rights but also gives a certain group of readers a sense of solidarity through the pov of characters like Zeke, Freida and Grisha. This group as well as these characters are the ones who side with the Allied Forces (Marley + world) and wishes for the extinction of one race so that the world is saved. This does give them the right to call Eren a villain but it doesn't end there. From the perspective of those who're about to be erased off the face of Earth forever, it's just horrifying. So, Eren and Zeke - neither of them are wrong, they simply contrast each other because their povs are different. It's left to the readers to decide who they wanna side with. But to call the other side "villain" doesn't do because no matter how we see it none of the choices are justified; both end in horror.
• Genocide Vs Rumbling : When people talk about the rumbling, they make it look like innocents will be crushed ( like what happened in Liberio) but that's wrong because presently only the Allied Forces (the military) are attacking Paradis. If Eren does activate the Rumbling (I'm doubtful tho) the Titans will wreck the military force of the world and NOT the innocent people in the rest of the world. It's not like the whole world dies, it's the military that'll suffer the consequence and not civilians. Now, coming to euthanasia, if that plan works out, a whole race will be wiped off the face of Earth forever. This is plain genocide that affects not only innocent Eldians but is an outright denial of posterity; of future generations. Does anybody really have the right to take away even the possibility of a future? The way I see it, euthanasia is still more horrifying than rumbling. Don't get me wrong, I'm not supporting the use of Titans to trample on military but canceling out even the possibility of a different future is an even worse option.
• So which of the plans is likely to prevail? Undoubtedly euthanasia will fail. There's a lot of proof :-
1. Grisha spoils us by telling " your plan will fail" [Unless Isayama uses another Deus ex machina to convince us that the future can be changed too]
2. The last panel explicitly mentions " you are free".
Tumblr media
So feedom is achieved in the end. If Zeke rolls with euthanasia, there won't be any freedom, they'll be doomed to extinction. Therefore it is safe to conclude that euthanasia is not happening and that Eren will somehow stop Ymir no matter what. (Or someone even more op pops up and stops her I'm not ruling out anything at this point)
3. Eren's speech to Falco says that those who voluntarily push themselves into war see a kind of hope on the other side; but that's not a very happy end. The hope he talks about is also a sort of hell.
Tumblr media
Right after this comes Eren's advice to Reiner where he says that both of them are alike. So, even if Eren perceives the end he sees as hope, for Reiner (who's similar to him) it will be hell. There's no way any end can be achieved without incurring collateral damage. The basement revelation took Erwin's life and wiped out almost all of the SC so it won't be that shocking if the price of freedom (which has been the goal since day 1) is even greater. The Rumbling might just happen boys even if it's disastrous. Grisha said in the start he wasn't ready to pay the price for freedom so it's not surprising that he tells Zeke to stop Eren because he is still unwilling to pay a price this horrifying for the sake of freedom. However Eren will advance and continue moving forward to meet that end. He will walk down thhat path no matter how destructive it is.
Tumblr media
He's willing to take the blood in his hands. Everything that has happened upto this point has been influenced keeping in mind this future.
4. During the AT Vs Female Titan fight, Eren went full rage mode and said "I'll destroy the whole world". Could be a big foreshadowing of what's to come.
Tumblr media
• An alternative to the Rumbling : I hope with all my heart there's a third option like @shizekarnstein said in her meta and that both the extremes don't come to be. I'm being over optimistic but the wrecking just doesn't sit well with me. I don't completely agree with people who said Armin is apparently calling out to Eren in the audio of the finale, but if we think that to be true, it might be an indication of how Armin intervened to stop Eren from going ahead with the Rumbling. I've said this before and Eren did too (during the Serum bowl) that Armin will be the one to save the world. And clearly there's nobody better suited for the task. Armin is the one with diplomatic skills ; he can negotiate with Marley and rest of the world. He already suspects Eren in 118. If he has got a hunch that Eren will activate rumbling to wipe out the enemy , maybe he can stop him in the nick of time.
• Post Rumbling and Armin's role : Considering that the Rumbling is inevitable, we can assume a greater role will fall on Armin to ensure things won't go wrong in the future. The Allied Forces will incur a crushing defeat once the Rumbling is activated. This'll serve as a deterrent to any more plans of declaring war on Paradis for a long time. It'll take sufficient time for the Allied Forces to be strong enough to attack Paradis and the Eldian military can use this time to build up their own defence. And Armin would be the one to use this time to make peaceful policies. It falls on the narrator of a story to make negotiations and ensure the future don't repeat the same things. So if the story is one of war we can say that the future will have peace (Considering all the parallels of world history in SnK I'm indicating at a possible Peace Treaty or something to the effect of the UNO that works for peace)

Mistake: Lesson
The good thing about mistakes is that everyone makes them. No one can claim that he/she is not a sinner.. kung meron man, let him/her cast the first stone to the sinner. Tho sa totoong buhay people often laugh at others' mistake.. talk about it over social media and they critisize the person without giving him/her a fair and honest fight or even without knowing an inch of their story. Well, magtataka ka pa ba eh, this is now the facebook era where everyone enjoys the freedom of speech. And everyone creates their own "feedom wall" kung saan uso ung "wall ko to i can post/say whatever the hell i want".
Human nature- we always have that point in our lives where we commit one stupid mistake...like, we are caught up in a trance.. minsan plot twist and you just go with flow and then later on realization hits you hard...at maiuusal mo na lang "ay pwede na palang ikaw magising!"😂 When you make a mistake, keep in mind that it doesn’t define who you are as a person. Try not to jump to conclusions about your worth or value. No one’s perfect, and that’s okay. Ang mahalaga you face your mistake head-on, own what happened and draw a line under it. Everyone makes mistakes, and everyone has to deal with them. It’s how you recover that comes to define you!
We can always charge our mistakes to experience.😁 The important thing is learning a lesson and trying to do better next time around.😉
Next please!😂
