favorite word?
@realchickenmanny (assuming this isn’t a tumblr thing I haven’t heard of, in which case apologies 😬🤣) it’d have to be “grand”, in the Irish sense, that is:
“Grand” *with a weary sigh at the end* = life’s a bit shit atm but sure, it could be worse
“Grand” *in a monotone, delivered while staring ahead impassively* = everything that could go wrong has gone wrong/ my life is over
“Grand” *delivered with an upward lilt at the end and a flirty wink* = positively fecking wonderful now you’re here*
“Grand” *with raised eyebrows, smug manner and elongated aaah sound* = not to flex, but everything is bleeding deadly (perfect), and I’m getting notions about myself
“Grand” *through gritted teeth and narrowed eyes, while making a fist* = I’ll be grand in a minute when I box the head off you, ya little bollix

So, after some thinking, i actually have quite a few favourite words.
The first three words are - opportunity, curiosity and voyage. Those are the names of space crafts and they sound really fucking cool. Another one of my favourites is a word SCRUMPTIOUS.(I learnt it from one of my mutuals. I can't find this mutual at the moment. I am afraid i might have blocked him on accident D:)
Now, the most favourite word in my native language is this joke-compound word that was created somewhere around year 2010:
Quasi-anti-circle-dance-leader-expert-phile-phobe-eater-maniacs
Here is a translated explanation of this done by me for you:
Those who dance in circles - are circle-dance-leaders. Those who study the work of circle-dance-leaders - are circle-dance-leader-experts. Those who read the work of circle-dance-leader-experts - are circle-dance-leader-expert-philes. Those who hate circle-dance-leader-expert-philes - are circle-dance-leader-expert-phile-phobes. Those who eat circle-dance-leader-expert-phile-phobes - are circle-dance-leader-expert-phile-phobe-eaters. Those who fight circle-dance-leader-expert-phile-phobe-eaters - are anti-circle-dance-leader-expert-phile-phobe-eaters. Those who pose as anti-circle-dance-leader-expert-phile-phobe-eaters - are quasi-anti-circle-dance-leader-expert-phile-phobe-eaters. Those who love quasi-anti-circle-dance-leader-expert-phile-phobe-eaters - are quasi-anti-circle-dance-leader-expert-phile-phobe-eater-maniacs.
Quasi-anti-circle-dance-leader-expert-phile-phobe-eater-maniacs - are those, who love those, who pretend to be those, who fight against those, who eat those, who hate those, who love to read those, who study the works of those, who dance in circles.
Original is under the cut:

My favourite word is "cum", because
- in Latin it means "with" and it was the first Latin word I memorised
- in Czech we have the word "kam", meaning "to where", and it's pronounced exactly the same. When we were learning about homophones, someone, I assume from my class, wrote "kam, come, cum" on a desk, I read it, and it has been on my mind ever since (it's been like three years help)

Tell me your favorite crazy word in your native language and what it means.
Mine is "Verschlimmbessern" (German)
Combined out of the words "verschlimmern" (to make something worse) and "verbessern" (to make something better)
Basically it describes a situation where some one is trying to make something better but then makes it worde in the process.

Quaint
To kick off Wednesday’s section and 2025 in one go, I will start with my favourite English word. “Quaint”. There’s something quaint about the word quaint. The movements one has to make with one’s lips to pronounce the word quaint are wonderfully absurd. You almost make a whole ‘O’ with your mouth before you’ve even reached half of the word’s letters. One might argue that the word “quite” is similarly pronounced and therefore doesn’t warrant putting quaint on such a pedestal, but I would argue that quite is too short-lived on the mouth, the O barely there before it’s already gone.
No, quaint holds a special place in my heart. Cotswolds cottages and little church yards spring to mind upon encountering it, and yet, quaint is one of those words that are incredibly hard to precisely define. There’s something ineffable about the feeling associated with quaintness.
I have never seen a place that evoked the word “quaint” to me and didn’t immediately make me want to write. Something about quaint places speaks to my imagination, and I constantly seek them out whenever I’m out gallivanting in the countryside.
Even just thinking about the word quaint (and the mental images it goes with) makes me happy, which sounds like a good conclusion to this first day in 2025. Let’s hope I (and everyone who also enjoys the word as much as I do) gets as many chances as possible to pronounce it this year!

My favourite word is "trip". It came into the English language about the same time from two different languages.
1. Trip
To fall over, to be clumsy, to fall over one's own feet
2. Trip
To trip the light fantastic, to be graceful and light on your feet, to move with grace.
What's your fav word?

I just found my favourite word. Or words, but is in the dictionary as one. I’m so using this in book just to confuse the characters and the readers.
Schrödinger’s Douchebag:
A guy who says offensive things and decides whether he was joking based on the reaction of people around him.
Have fun with that. We’re all victims of this crime.
