i’m literally so fucking happy to hear that joe wants tee to stay and he wants to be able to play with him and ja’marr for as long as possible. bc it reminds me heavily of my all time fave trio of sid and geno and tanger spending their careers together and getting paid less to stay together. and feeling like as long as they’re together playing on the same team, that’s enough. win or lose, they have each other.

I love him desperately. It’s the eyebrows and the dimples. He gives me cuteness aggression. It’s his everything. I am 100% biased I think he’s perfect and have for almost as long as I’ve been a pens fan. I’m obsessed a normal amount, I promise.

For fave lore, everything about the goalie goal has me feral. I mean I’ve been feral for a while but whatever.

He’s regularly a massive bitch (affectionate). Aka the reason I have my give mouse boy a knife tag with accompanying art. Special shoutout to the original hockey gc name aka how about that fucking save (lore: kinda super fucked up moment where Marchand punched Jars and got thrown out and suspended for it but then we found out the only thing Jars said to him to prompt his reaction was “how about that fucking save” and the euphoria of it lives in my head rent free).

Jars is just fun to watch. He made his initial splash getting called up and staying up by rewriting the pens shutout streak record and then getting another shutout cause he’s that bitch. I made a bunch of shutout memes last season cause everyone was talking shit and yet he was still leading the league in keeping his legs closed.

For other lore there’s the pretty princess photo. Plus the fact that he’s our girlfriend. Helmet kisses were kinda iconic but that’s more about Canner than Mouse Boy even tho Mouse Boy was the recipient (there’s more posts it was a blessed several weeks).

There was that time he rocked up to the 2020 asg as a rookie with Tanger and kid looking to the world like the hot nanny Tanger hired to watch his kid. Also this comment from Steve Dangle several years later is a delight.

Look, all the noise aside he’s a very good goalie who’s had some bad injury luck (the broken foot was not his fault) and the main sin he committed is the crime of not being Marc Andre Fleury despite not even being the goalie that ousted Flower in the first place. Is he a vezina candidate? Hard to tell with his injury history impacting his play in critical situations. Plus the fact that the boys like to play like shit in front of him (if we played defense regularly Lars Eller wouldn’t have had to shame us into doing it by going damn you live like this). Overall he’s a good goalie who works hard and is happy to be here playing hockey and I’m incredibly happy we have him for 5 years. Fuck the haters he’s my favorite.

i must admit i have imprinted on this man like a baby duck from day one for a variety of reasons, including the fact that i am weak for a man with big ol blue eyes and/or dimples, but also because he's a really fun player to watch! when he's having a good game, it's very hard to shake him, and i respect that

there's the penalties he's taken, including the trip on LD29 that lives rent free in my head at all times:

you can tell how hard he works and how much he fucking loves this team, how much he wants to be better for them and help take them as far as he can in a season. he loves ned, they get along like a house on fire, and it does not surprise me that both of them were vocal about running back their tandem this upcoming year.

(i also follow his wife, hannah, on instagram and seeing this mf interact with his giant horse dogs is nothing but endearing i'm so serious)

and then, of course, there is the goalie goal! which was absolutely beautiful to watch!

Who are the Pens' cousins and in laws? 😄

See now this is where it gets interesting right? Cause like it mostly stays in team besides the occasional Crosby Boyfriend getting out of containment (Jack Johnson, MacKinnon the like), but I genuinely can't think of too many in-laws or cousins.

Clearly we missed players like Määttä, Bennett, Kahun, McCann, ect and I do feel like while part of the family were less official members and more like married in or adopted cousins. So we fill in Olli as a Tanger kid, Bennett is Sid's very injury prone kid who we forgot in the grocery store(NJ) and he found a new family. We forgot Schultzy who was basically another frat bro who switched schools but still occasionally shows up to crash on the couch, we forgot Rusty's fave frat bro Kühnhackl who was also one of the Dumo, Sheary Frat party system who didnt stay stateside, we left out fan fave uncle Kuni(Kunitz) who went on a vacay in Tampa for a bit before getting stuck in CHI, we left out a tonne of people not on purpose but because if you start at the beginning ( The first Crosby/Malkin era cup) and work to the present you find too much.

The only true weird in-law/ex boyfriend thing i'm willing to accept is the Ovechkin being Geno's ex and Backstrom and Crosby having weekly tea times to bitch about their respective kids but thats a whole different family dynamic i'd have to ask @legobrickcow about.

All in all the family trees of each team have a tonne of overlap if you go deep enough, spanning boyfriends, scorned ex lovers, family thats moved away and frat siblings who switched frats/schools

Since it's Independence Day here (12 June), let me tell you about the closest our country's gotten to a real-life Sherlock Holmes. Who also wrote our fave classic lit gay ship. Who also might be Hitler's secret dad (?!?!?!?!)

Dr. Jose Rizal

Mainly, he was a genius, reformist, and author of two revolutionary novels: Noli Me Tangere (Touch Me Not) and its sequel, El Filibusterismo (The Filibuster). His novels inspired the Filipinos to fight against our Spanish colonizers.

Similiarities:

He was a fucking genius in all fields. If he wanted to be a detective instead of a freedom fighter he could have.

A doctor that specialized in ophthalmology. He finished his licensure exam before 18, but he couldn't get his license until he was an adult

Also a boxer! Also good at martial arts! Also a swordsman!

Also a scientist! This dude got exiled because of his treasonous writings, and guess what he did in exile? He fucked off and discovered three new species of animals

He lived in the same year range as Holmes, around 1860s to 1890s! Only he was executed at 35 y/o.

We have tons of theories about him. There's a conspiracy theory that he's Hitler's father because he was in Germany at the time of his birth.

Another is he's queer or bi because he wrote very intimate letters to his friend, Blumentritt, who he only met irl once (!) We also have a street named after his pen pal bf

Another argument is he wrote our first bury your gays trope with Elias x Ibarra (Elibarra), who have fanfic on AO3 as well.

In book 1, the MC, Ibarra, gets his ass saved again and again by a stranger, Elias, who wants to persuade him to help reform the country. To do so they meet up secretly, a lot. Mostly intimate boat rides. However Elias finds out that his tragic backstory (entire family died due to oppression) was caused by Ibarra's family! He nearly kills Ibarra. But he still forgives him. He breaks him out of prison, but Ibarra makes a stopover to say goodbye to his gf. So they get caught and Elias sacrifices his life for him.

Ah, the dreaded question. I am hesitant to recommend books that I haven't personally read yet, and to be honest I have read so few. Most of what I read are from anthologies and Internet scavenging.

For "classic" books, I've only really read

Noli Me Tangere, and

El Filibusterismo by Jose Rizal

So that's all I can recommend. Much of my country's pre-colonial everything Literature were destroyed or just in the recent years being rediscovered thanks to colonialism (and tbh are pretty hard to have access to especially if you're not in the academia).

For 20th Century to contemporary ones, not everything are books per se, and these are all random, but works on top of my head are:

hope you don't mind sharing venting a bit about the Pens / Geno. i too have been frustrated about the Pens season so far, it sucks that we're in a bit of a rough spot now and the four teams above us are doing so well early in the season. meanwhile we just look like a mess. it's understandable because we had no training camp this year but with the condensed sched and the standings so tight every W counts. I love Geno and Tanger, no doubt, but their play has been headscratching so far. (1)

Besides the 1st and 3rd lines there's little to no chemistry. Sully i'm sure is on the hot seat ever since that putrid play-in series. Our next stretch vs the Caps and NYI is terrifying and this could make or break our season so I sincerely hope the Pens will sort their shit out. Tbh I could be in the minority here but this season has been gut punching for me if my fave team hasn't made it painful to watch yet. It feels unusual to see so many players on early scoring sprees (2)

with likely 1/4 of the league on pace to hit 40+ pts on a shortened season (if they keep up) while Sid, G, Jake, etc are off to slow starts. Yeah it stinks our guys aren't scoring on a torrid pace like so many players this yr but I just try to stay positive that things will go upward soon and they will soon get their scoring touches back at the perfect time. Plus the season is a marathon so players / teams can flip the switch quickly. (3)

I dunno, we’ve seen some fantastic sparks of chemistry on G’s line. And if you look at his game play, he’s really been kicking into high gear. He’s making a lot of good plays but nothing seems to be gelling for the team. Here’s the thing though, while I realize this season’s games carry more weight than a normal season, this happens every. single. season.  By then end of October people are freaking out saying we won’t make playoffs. 

This season isn’t a long but we still have a long way to go. I have to keep hoping and believing that they’ll get there. 

That said, I think it’s long past time for a coaching change so that is one aspect that worries me.
