And remember kids, the next time someone tells you, "George R. R. Martin wouldn't make Jon Snow the typical fantasy hero because that's cliche".....
Oh yes he would!
One viewer wants to know what character would you play (on the show)? GRRM: If I could magically clap my hands and become a different person, it would be cool to play Jon Snow who's much more of the classic hero. Everybody wants to be the classic hero! ABC Interview, 2014
GRRM: And the character I’d want to be? Well who wouldn’t want to be Jon Snow — the brooding, Byronic, romantic hero whom all the girls love. Meduza Interview, 2017
In fact he already has ☺️
#asoiaf#jon snow#yes grrm has criticized neo-tolkein fantasy - a lot!#but like....dpmo#I need so many people in this godforsaken fandom to familiarize themselves with grrm's engagement with the genre#he isn't trying to say “chosen one boy protagonist bad” where tf did people get that???#he's directly trying to challenge the more unsatisfactory elements of lesser copies of tolkien's legendarium#the ones that lift lotr wholesale without actually understanding what makes tolkien's writing snap#at the same time he has admitted himself that he has borrowed from lotr albeit with his own twists#but people in this fandom need to know that ye old man LOVES sword-and-sorcery fantasy#he LOVES a good epic#he LOVES pulp fantasy and sci fi#and those inspirations are directly reflected in asoiaf#the way he's named arthuriana/lotr/MST and many pulp stories with brooding dark heroes as key inspirations#almost all of which have mcs who fall into the typical fantasy hero role#and they inspire elements that are reflected back onto jon more than anyone else in asoiaf#like seoman snowlock = jon (+bran)#frodo - who btw is the mc in lotr not aragorn!! = jon (and bran)#FUCKING KING ARTHUR IS JON SO MUCH SO THAT RLJ IS LITERALLY A 1:1 COPY OF ARTHUR'S BIRTH STORY LIKE??!!!!#anyone who's even a little bit familiar with le morte d'arthur will be like oh yeah jon is literally king arthur like 😭😭#same with anyone who's ready the once and future king - which grrm has directly identified as his fav take on arthurian lit#ntm that jon is based on some of the most prolific characters in arthuriana - percival/galahad/lancelot etc#did you know that there's an iconic sci-fi series whose main character is called Eric JOHN STARK?#well grrm has directly quoted that series and the mc as a foundational book in his life#funny that huh? 🙂#do people even know what tf they're talking about when they say stuff like this???? ajdhhjshsbvshja#grrm engages very heavily with traditional fantasy tropes but he of course provides his own spin on them#never has he said that he's trying to avoid stories with hidden princes or chosen ones as boy protagonists#like someone find me a direct quote of him saying that - but I bet you can't smh

Note
12 and 26 for the books ask
12. a book/book series u wish u could read for the first time ever again?
I'd actually have to go with The Winternight Trilogy. I burned through that series faster than I've gone through any in adulthood. It's so immersive, lush, wild, and otherworldly. The first book's nearly perfect. There are a few things I would've done differently in the two that followed, but I still have no real complaints about them.
26. ur fav quote from a book?
"Not all those who wander are lost." - J.R.R. Tolkien, which will not surprise you at all.

Favorite time of day: night time when the stars are out
favorite aesthetic: moss covered ruins especially of old churches
a color that describes you: violently intense fuschia pink but deeper than the usual neon shade
favorite quote: really all of the Cinderella film is quotable and it was so hard to narrow down which one I'd go with. It was either gonna be something from it or Tolkien
current obsession (show, movie, book, anything): ancient Rome but I'm double dipping here because I'm also binging the Chosen for like the third time so it's both. It was either this or a picture of Lee Pace looking like Pompey the Great because my era of obsession is late Republic into early Empire. Basically Pompey to Tiberius. The Roman empire is my Roman empire to the point I have a whole side blog for it @sextuscansextus
favorite texture: I could pet Shar Peis until my hand fell off I love the coarse velvety texture of their fur, French bulldogs have it too but I prefer big dog breeds
favorite outfit (or an outfit you wish you had in your closet): I have always wanted Cinderellas pink mice dress and I always will its the greatest dress in animation and I will throw hands with anyone who disses it
any world universe or place you see yourself living in: while I identify most with Men I would love to live in the trees at Caras Galadhon
favorite flower: purple pansies. I kinda have two favs because while roses are my namesake and can be put in arrangements and decorations pansies are my favorite flower to see just growing. They don't go well in bouquets but they brighten garden beds beyond anything else

Hi! Can I get an MCU ship? I'm female, straight, Gemini, INFP-T, I'm 5'4, and I am 21, in my last year of university in communication arts.
Despite my age, my friends say I act like a mom (constantly concerned and worried for friends most of the time) and have the mind of an old lady, I'm an empath and an ambivert but leaning towards introvert. I don't drink alcohol or coffee. (Milk, cocoa, or orange juice is my alcohol lol)
Shy and awkward with ppl I dont know much or ppl I just met but if we click, I am a completely different person, more talkative too, calm and graceful but chaotic if that makes sense XD but I do know when to be serious
I'm kind and patient, very understanding, considerate and thoughtful of others, I have a habit of putting other's priority over mine most of the time, which kind of results in me keeping things to myself a lot and then stress out (but I'm working on it XD) quite emotional too, the type that cries at every sad scene or movie I watch
Helping ppl makes me happy, whether that'd be giving advice or just being there for them or listening, but I will not tolerate those who take advantage of my kindness or disrespect others, esp ppl I care about, I rarely insult ppl, so if I do, that means my patience ran out
My friends say I'm very optimistic and hopeful and they always feel like "they're with a musical character" which I'll take because I love singing! I love music in general and I really love vintage clothing and aesthetics! I also like to read books (mostly fictional, Tolkien books are my fav, esp The Hobbit) watch movies, draw, work out, and just learn random things!
I like learning, I'm more on the theories and philosophical side though, I am very bad at math or anything dealing with calculations and numbers, I also have interest in learning languages, mythology, and astronomy, I love the stars and like to go to planetariums and museums when I have time, I just think the universe is just so fascinating and I just like to have fun in general!
I am an animal lover, and I love kids, very dedicated to playing with my adorable little cousins. I daydream a lot, I love the fantasy genre so my imagination goes wild haha
A Black sheep in the family, and the youngest and only daughter too, so I kind of grew up independently most of the time.
Very much into giving and receiving hugs and amusement parks, I also have quite a sweet tooth, mostly for cookies and brownies, so I love cafes and pastry shops a lot.
My fav Marvel movies are mostly the Captain America series (don't make me choose, I love them all) Captain Marvel, Spiderman Far From Home and Thor: Ragnarok!
A song that I love and sing a lot is Moon River by Audrey Hepburn and Your Song by Elton John
Favorite quote would have to be "There is some good in this world, and it's worth fighting for." And a word I associate myself with is "Hope"
I apologize for such a long post, please take your time! Thank you in advance and I hope you have an amazing day! Take care 💖💖💖💖
I ship you with… Mobius!
Things Mobius loves about you:
• Your ability to make him smile with your singing. He can always hear you before he sees you.
• He loves how you’re kind and caring towards others, even though yourself may not have always experienced such things.
• Your independence and no need for a knight in shining armour. You can look after yourself, hold your own and above all still look after those around you whilst doing it.
• He’d often find you sneakily watching a film at your desk, or reading a novel. ‘Do you want some popcorn with that?’ He’d sassily ask.
• Mobius instantly warmed up to you, although it took you a little longer (a day and a half) he won you over. Really he was just a giant Labrador.
• You’ll often agree to help others with their work load, in turn over working yourself, which he lectures you about every time, but he knows you’ll still do it, because you’re that kind of person. He admires it.
• Occasional sneaky trips from the TVA using the Tempads to visit other worlds. You were always amazed by them.
• it was definitely a slow burn with you two. It seemed everyone around you could blindly see you two were in love, but neither one of you realised.
• Until you thought you had lost Mobius to pruning.
• Then you spiralled. Realising perhaps he was more than a friend.
Your BFF: Loki - He would find you mildly irritating at first. You were way too cheery and nice. And your singing annoyed him. But eventually he began to realise you were a good soul and you often chatted about mythology and how bonkers it all was with their Loki compared to him. He could also see you two idiots were in love. Of course, he tried to play his tricks to get you two to realise it, but it never worked.

The brave things in the old tales and songs, Mr. Frodo: adventures, as I used to call them. I used to think that they were things the wonderful folk of the stories went out and looked for, because they wanted them, because they were exciting and life was a bit dull, a kind of a sport, as you might say. - The Two Towers
“Ti ho mai detto che ho sempre voluto volare via?” “No, ma l'ho sempre saputo” “È per questo che mi sono fatta tatuare due ali: sono di drago perchè Oarf è il mio compagno e i nostri destini saranno sempre uniti; sono chiuse perchè non ho ancora preso il volo. Very sorry but this is the point you’ve lost me, I don’t have a great memory for lyrics...
radio or your own playlist | solo artists or bands | pop or indie | loud or silent volume I slow or fast songs | music video or lyrics video | speakers or headset | riding a bus in silence or while listening to music (technically an audiobook but we’ll go with this one) | driving in silence or with radio on
BOOKS
Fav book genre? Fantasy and classics, technically I read more fantasy but I love them equally
Fave writer? I can’t pick one, I read too much... For prose: Jane Austen (specifically in Emma, her free indirect style is perfection!), Guy Gavriel Kay, Robin Hobb, and Emily Bronte. For plot: Brandon Sanderson. For the overall package: Terry Pratchett and J.R.R. Tolkien
Fave book? Emma by Jane Austen, Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte,
Fave book series? The Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien
Comfort book? Harry Potter or Assassin’s Apprentice by Robin Hobb
Rainy day book? Not entirely sure what this is asking for but I guess Harry Potter again... Maybe anything in Middle Earth
Fave characters? I could compose a whole list... To name a few: Emma Woodhouse (my queen!) FitzChivalry Farseer, Dalinar Kholin (problematic but I don’t give a fuck), Severus Snape (likewise), Eowyn, Theoden, Heathcliff, Anne Shirely, and Sam Vimes.
5 quotes from your fave books? Here’s my time to shine! I could keep going past 5 but I’ll restrain myself...
“You said I killed you — haunt me, then!” - Wuthering Heights
“If I loved you less I might be able to talk about it more” - Emma
“...faultless in spite of all her faults” - Emma (about Emma herself)
“It’s a dangerous business, Frodo, going out your door. You step onto the road, and if you don’t keep your feet, there’s no knowing where you might be swept off to.” - The Lord of the Rings (Fellowship of the Ring)
(A long one but worth it)
“The reason that the rich were so rich, Vimes reasoned, was because they managed to spend less money.
Take boots, for example. He earned thirty-eight dollars a month plus allowances. A really good pair of leather boots cost fifty dollars. But an affordable pair of boots, which were sort of OK for a season or two and then leaked like hell when the cardboard gave out, cost about ten dollars. Those were the kind of boots Vimes always bought, and wore until the soles were so thin that he could tell where he was in Ankh-Morpork on a foggy night by the feel of the cobbles.
But the thing was that good boots lasted for years and years. A man who could afford fifty dollars had a pair of boots that’d still be keeping his feet dry in ten years’ time, while the poor man who could only afford cheap boots would have spent a hundred dollars on boots in the same time and would still have wet feet.
This was the Captain Samuel Vimes Boots’ theory of socioeconomic unfairness.” - Men at Arms (Discworld)
hardcover or paperback | buy or rent | standalone novels or book series (I can’t pick) | ebook or physical copy | reading at night or during the day | reading at home or in nature | listening to music while reading or reading in silence | reading in order or reading the ending first | reliable or unreliable narrator | realism or fantasy | one or multiple POVS | judging by the covers or by the summary | rereading or reading just once (depends on the book)
TV AND MOVIES
Fave tv/movie genre? period drama/fantasy
Fave movie? Lord of the Rings (Fellowship is technically my absolute favourite, but the whole trilogy is my top 3) or Emma (2020)
Comfort movie? Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban
Movie you watch every year? Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter (all of them!) I rarely watch new films, I don’t love films tbh, I’m more of a tv person...
Fave tv show? Penny Dreadful or The Young Pope
Comfort tv show? Errrrm... Anne with an E? North and South? Pride and Prejudice (1995)?
Most rewatched tv show? The Tudors
5 fave characters? The Creature/John Clare/Caliban from Penny Dreadful, Anne Shirely from Anne with an E, Eowyn, Aragorn, and Sam from Lord of the Rings (counting as one), Lucrezia Borgia from The Borgias, Lagertha from Vikings
tv shows or movie | short seasons (8-13 episodes) or full seasons (22 episodes or more) | one episode a week or bingeing | one season or multiple seasons (depends on whether it’s complete or not) | one part or saga | half hour or one hour long episodes | subtitles on or off | rewatching or watching just once | downloads or watches online (old school DVDs for me!)
Tagging: @stefito0o and anyone else who wants to do it... I’m honestly sure who’s done it and who hasn’t at this point.

21 in 2021
Rules! Choose 21 books you want to read or goals you want to achieve in 2021. That’s it! It can be a mix of books and goals, or 21 books, or 21 goals…. it’s up to you. Then tag some friends to play along.
1. My new years resolution for the past few years has been to read at least the same number of books as i read the previous year, so this year the goal is 18 or more. I beat 2019 by 3 books but going out less due to the pandemic defnitely contributed to that so we’ll see if I still have as much free time this year (most likely will the way things are going oof.)
2. I love period novels but I feel like they’re always from late, 1700′s and beyond. This year I want to read more medieval lit and contemporary novels set in medieval times (but like, actual medieval times not fantasy style)
3. I started getting obsessed with books about bands and musicians late last year so hopefully I’ll read more of those too
now for books (I probably will change these as the year goes and I have no clue if I’ll actually finish them all haha)
4. The Invisible Life of Addie La Rue. (currently reading, I started it during the last week of 2020 and it’s taking me a while because of school and the author’s pretentious writing style but I do really like it regardless)
5. Songteller by Dolly Parton
6. The Inferno by Dante
7. Let Love Rule by Lenny Kravitz
8. Lost Splendor by Felix Yusupov (if I ever find a damn copy of this book that’s not on *m*zon I will lose my damn mind)
9. Shirley by Susan Scarf Merrell
10. Girls of the Atomic City by Denise Kiernan
11. Mexican Gothic by Silvia Moreno-Garcia
12.Frankenstein by Mary Shelley (I have only read excerpts of this and I love shelley so I’m as surprised as you are that I haven’t read this one yet lol)
13. On Earth We’re Briefly Gorgeous by Ocean Vuong (I’ve seen so many Vuong quotes around on the internet and I’ve heard fantastic things about this one)
14. Cat’s Eye by Margaret Atwood (one of my all time fav authors)
15. Boatman’s Daughter by Andy Davidson
16. Beloved by Toni Morrison (I read my first Morrison novel last year, Sula, and I was completely captivated the entire time, can’t believe it took me so long to pick up one of her works!)
17. Dearly by Margaret Atwood (yes more Atwood because i really can’t get enough of her)
18. Hell’s Princess by Harold Schecter
19. Beren and Luthien by JRR Tolkien (a very dear friend of mine gifted me a copy while we were in high school and I love the tale but I haven’t read that version of it, like, I’ve read the silmarillion but not the isolated tale)
20. The Name of the Rose by Umberto Eco
21. Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoy (this one is last but definitely not least. I plan to read this massive book over the spring and summer quarters that I’ll have off before transferring colleges)
I might stick to this but most likely won’t haha, I read whatever pulls me in at the moment, and I’ll definitely be reading some books for school, but these are ones either on my shelf or on my “to be acquired” list haha.
I tag anyone who wants to, feel free to tag me and say I tagged you! :)

writer's ask: 11 (books or authors that influenced you the most), 16 (how many drafts do you need until you're satisfied with a story), 27 (fav line/scene [in RA]), 38 (weirdest story idea)
Hohoho! thank you for the ask awesome person!
11) Books or authors that influenced me the mostA tough question but one that will be fun to answer. There are authors whose work I’ve treasured that inspired me to be a writer, there are authors whose work I want to emulate, and of course I find elements from my favorite stories in every one of my writing projects. And then there’s fanfiction!I think in the end, I’ll have to say J.R.R. Tolkien and John Flanagan for some authors who inspired me, and their worldbuilding and character-driven approach has influenced how I want to write as well. There are so many works that have left their fingerprints on my work too - like the Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer, the City of Ember series by Jeanne DuPrau, and many more. Most of all, the budding authors in my creative writing group have helped shape my style as we give one another feedback and work together on different projects.16) How many drafts do you need until you’re satisfied with a story?I don’t think I’ve ever truly finished a story to my satisfaction as yet. There’s always going to be things I wish I could correct with another revision. I’ve also noticed a tendency to revise as I’m writing, needing the first draft to be perfect, that seriously limits how much I actually produce. To help combat this bad habit, I’ve started reminding myself of a quote from Tumblr user @ghostzzy: “First drafts are for making it exist, second drafts are for making it functional, third drafts are for making it effective.” It’s very freeing to give myself permission to just spill out onto the page - it doesn’t even need to be functional until the second draft. After all, every piece of writing can always be improved somehow - so if I keep needing everything I write to be perfect as it comes out of my keyboard, I’ll never get anything written.27) Favorite scene/line in RA:Aaarrgh! Please don’t make me choose just one! I’m always paralyzed by these “favorite” questions: ask me what my favorite song is and I’ll promptly forget every song I’ve ever heard. That’s why I always ask people things like “What’s a great song you’ve been listening to lately?” Anyone can answer that.I spent entirely too much time pacing, going over every book in my head, and I still can’t choose. I do know that I’m an absolute sucker for 1) stupid character interaction 2) stupid heist scenes.
EY: Honestly, these books are my absolute favorite in the entire John Flanagan extended universe. This pair of dorks. Kids. Saving the world. I love it. The chicken leg scene. The rain scene. The rescuing-Duncan heist. PALLADIO. “Pritchard!!” Anything about Halt being self-conscious or even anything from Halt’s perspective at all because we don’t get enough scenes shot from inside Halt’s head in RA.RA: The entirety of the Kings of Clonmel/Halt’s Peril Horace/Will/Halt adventure. This trio of idiots making stupid jokes at each other. The crow scene. The cowboy heist scene. The Halt-disguising heist scene. And don’t get me started on Erak’s Ransom and Lost Stories. (Dinner For Five is a masterpiece, as is Death of A Hero, Inkwell and Dagger, The Hibernian,,, all. ALL.)BB: The first book is absolutely excellent. And after that? Literally any scene with Gilan in it was peak RA. Ulf, Wulf, and Jesper getting into his coffee stash while he’s being awkward about saying stupid stuff into the “mic” at the theater with the others? GOLD. Gilan nervously bumping about at the edge of the landspeeder? GOLD. But the BEST scene in all of Brotherband? Gilan and Lydia’s market heist scene and getaway. Not to mention this, one of my Favorite Lines Ever - Gilan and Lydia furiously elbowing their way through the crowd with background of: “Now a new cry joined the confused chorus of ‘Thief!’ and ‘Female!’ and 'Call the police!’: 'FIRE!! FIRE IN THE MARKET!! HELP!!!”38) Weirdest Story Idea Ever:I was asked this previously as well! I’m still trying to think of anything I’ve done that was weirder than “character falls down a mineshaft in tiny present-day town to find huge, futuristic city beneath it.”Thanks for the ask!

Merlin and LOTR!
Two of my favorites!
Merlin:
Favorite male character - Merlin, is that even a question?
Favorite female character - Gwen, I guess. I liked Morgana better for the first few seasons, but after a while her villainy got stagnant. There’s only so many ways to swear vengeance on people, and it started to bore me. I like Gwen’s steadfastness! And she’s so cute.
Least favorite character - Uther. Obvs! Wish he would’ve died a lot sooner.
Favorite ship - does Merlin & Arthur count? Their relationship (friendship, whatever it is) is the heart of the show.
Favorite friendship - Merlin & Gaius. They’ve got great chemistry, and they play off each other really well. Brings a beautiful level of humanity to the show. ❤️
Favorite Quote - Ugh, there are so many. I’ll go with a profound one: “Some men are born to plow fields. Some live to be great physicians, and others to be great kings. Me, I was born to serve you, Arthur. And I’m proud of that.”
Worst Character Death - Arthur’s. It broke my heart and I even knew what was coming.
This-made-me-so-happy-you-have-no-idea moment - That scene after Uther’s death, where Arthur spends the night alone with his father’s body. When he comes out of the throne room, Merlin is waiting there for him and says “I didn’t want you to think you were alone.”
Saddest moment - “Stay with me.” Merlin begging, pleading for Arthur to hang on just a little bit longer. Ouch.
Favorite Location - Gaius’s chambers. Really cool set where a lot of my favorite scenes are.
LOTR:
Favorite male character - Samwise Gamgee!
Favorite female character - (dangit Tolkien!) Probably Galadriel.
Least favorite character - that one Ringwraith. Not the Witch King one! The one who’s in the background of a lot of shots making faces. (I don’t have a least fav tbh, I like all the good guys and all the baddies are basically without personality, so…)
Favorite ship - I pretty much ship nothing in LOTR, so I’ll go with Aragorn & Arwen, since they end up together.
Favorite friendship - it’s a tie between Sam & Frodo and Gimli & Legolas.
Favorite quote - that one of Sam’s. I’m gonna try to type it out from memory. “It’s like in the great stories, Mr Frodo. The ones that really mattered. Full of darkness and danger, they were. And sometimes you didn’t want to know the end…because how could the end be happy? How could the world go back to the way it was when so much bad had happened? But it’s just a passing thing, this shadow. Even darkness must pass. A new day will come. And when the sun shines, it will shine out the clearer. Those were the stories that stayed with you, that meant something, even if you were too small to understand why. But I think Mr Frodo, I do understand. I know now. Folk in those stories had lots of chances of turning back, only they didn’t. They kept going, because they were holding on to something. That there’s some good in this world, Mr Frodo. And it’s worth fighting for.” (Whew!)
Worst character death - Theoden’s, I guess.
This-made-me-so-happy-you-have-no-idea moment - Sam rolling up to his house after the Grey Havens to his wife and kids. Perfect ending.
Saddest moment - Grey Havens. I saw that scene when I was like eight with NO context whatsoever and even then it had me tearing up.
Favorite location - Hobbiton. I would like to live there please!
Give me a fandom
