Minimum Wage for Tipped Employees

Tipped workers receive a lower minimum wage since tips form a significant part of their income. The federal minimum for tipped employees is $4.35 per hour. In NYC, tipped workers earn $10.00 per hour, with variations across regions. Employers can take a “tip credit” to pay less than the minimum wage, but if total wages and tips don’t meet the minimum wage, employers must increase wages.

Does the Minimum Wage Apply to All Employees?

Certain workers are exempt from the minimum wage law, including:

Executives and administrators earning more than 75 times the minimum wage

Professionals

Outside salespersons

Taxicab drivers

Government employees (except some non-teaching staff)

Part-time babysitters

Ministers and religious order members

Volunteers, learners, apprentices, and students in non-profits

So like why do customers feel the need to rant about the register thing asking for tips like dear customer what do you want from me I can’t help what the company put on the screen, just hit no I don’t care the tips are nice but like you’re allowed to not tip I don’t need a five minute rant or low-key rude comment on why you’re not gonna tip.

No one should experience sexual harassment at work.

Today, McDonalds workers are making their voices heard by demanding an end to the rampant sexual harassment in their restaurants.

Since news broke that L.H., a 14-year-old McDonald’s worker in Pittsburgh, was assaulted by her manager. The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) charged in a federal lawsuit that workers at 22 McDonald’s stores, some of them teenagers, were subjected to “constant groping,” offensive comments, and sexual intimidation, among other types of harassment.

Despite McDonalds promises, they have failed to adequately address sexual violence at their stores.

And so today, McDonald’s workers in over 10 cities across the country are walking out on STRIKE to demand McDonald’s address the pattern of sexual harassment in its stores across the U.S. and the world.
