You know, at this point I'm highly skeptical of things where people have a single simple solution to large scale problems that just calls for doing exactly what they think needs to be done and then everything is fixed

Summary: When Hannibal visits you, you must make an important decision.

I hope he's okay, you wondered as you rushed up to your front door, holding the handle of your umbrella tightly while trying to dig into your pocket for your key. Hannibal had been acting weird for a while now. At first, you thought it was his work (and after hours work) getting to him along with Will getting close to exposing him, but there was something else now. He was always careful and confident about how he disposed of any evidence of his affairs, and the time spent between you were filled with no stress or frustrations, just luxury cooking and relaxation. But now that has changed. When he spent time with you now, he seemed to no longer be relaxed and confident, and instead was always on his guard. It was something you weren't used to seeing on him.
As you finally pulled your keys out, you felt your phone in your pocket and was quickly reminded of what you first needed to do when you go inside: check your phone. While having dinner with some old friends, you had felt your phone vibrating with texts over and over. Every now and then, when you checked to see who the sender was, you saw that few of them were from Hannibal, and were very cryptic.
Holding your door key, you tried to put it in the lock when you noticed your door was already slightly ajar.
Did someone break in my house, you wondered, slowly pushing the door open wider. Stepping inside, you tried to be quiet as you closed the umbrella, shaking off the rainwater outside, before gripping it tightly in your hand. At that you looked back to him and found that he'd already put on his boxers and was now putting on his pants.

Oh shit, you thought, realizing what he meant. It had been a while back, but you and him had discussed what to do in case he was ever found out. Shit...Will must've actually did it.

The next morning though, you're embarassed. How can you have gotten so out of shape so fast? Sure the job is stressful, and there always seems to be food to hand, but everyone else in the office seems to have no problem.
When you're back in the office after new years you're going to turn things around. There's no point starting a diet during the holidays, but in a few weeks you're going to be on the track to dropping the pounds.

Of course, it's not really your fault you can't seem to keep the weight off. Your colleagues all know a few things you don't.
They know that the coffee machine in your break room might offer sinny lattes, but they pour cream-thickened coffees filled with sugary syrups and enough caffeine to keep you craving six cups a day.
They know that the chef - infuses - certain dishes, and makes sure you grab those plates, leaving you dozing and snacking through the afternoon.
They know that your supervisor lets the canteen know to prepare extra large desserts right after assigning you a new pile of work, so you have something to help you deal with the stress.
And they know that one of the perks of the job - for them at, least - is getting to take their stress out on the office piggy. Once the workload gets too much for your struggling brain and your body is properly swollen you'll be gently offered a new role in the company, one more suited to your skill set.
You'll be so tired of the stress, and so eager to please you manager, you sign without reading the job description. That's why you're surprised when you're delivered to your new office and find nothing but a bed with thick straps at each corner and a cart loaded with food - and when your old office-neighbour comes in and grabs a box of doughnuts as he pulls down his suit pants.

My friend Jake’s always been big, he was always called the ‘chubby kid’ in high school, and teachers would frequently raise their concerns about his weight to Jake’s parents. When Jake moved away to college, he had a hard time making friends and finding a boyfriend — he blamed this on his weight. Jake would convince himself that no guy would ever want to date a man who weighs over 400lbs, and who can’t walk up a flight of stairs without wheezing.
So Jake started a rigorous weight loss journey, he stopped eating carbs, and in fact food in general, he went on a juice cleanse. He managed to cut his daily calorie consumption down to just 1,000kcal a day. Paired with hours spent in the gym each week, the pounds started to drop off him, and within 6 months, Jake was down almost 60 pounds. Everything was working perfectly according to his plan, until he met Harry.
Harry was a 5ft10, brown haired, blue eyed jock. Being captain of the college football team, he was a big flirt with the ladies. Except Harry didn’t like women. One evening at a frat party, Harry noticed Jake standing by himself. He went over to talk to him.
“Hey mater, y’all right?”
Jake didn’t know how to respond, he was shocked that the most popular guy on campus had just started talking to him.
“Umm yeh I’m doing alright thanks, how bout you?”

After the first bite Jake took of his BigMac, he immediately realised how good McDonald’s tasted, and how full and happy fast food made him feel. Harry kept handing burger after to burger to Jake, before Jake suddenly stopped to burp. The two guys both started laughing.
Each day Harry would ask to meet Jake at the on campus McDonald’s. Jake would always walk in to discover Harry had already bought him a load of burgers, fries and mcflurries. Jake couldn’t refuse to eat, as Harry had the power to permanently exclude him from all future frat parties. But Jake also didn’t want to refuse. Harry had reignited his fast food addiction, the very reason he had swelled to being 400lbs in the first place.
As the weeks progressed, Harry looked fondly at his new boyfriend. He had abused his position as the most popular guy on campus, and used it to coerce Jake into eating a fuck ton of calories each day. Jake quickly regained all the weight he had fought so tirelessly to lose, and surpassed 400lbs. He was now fatter than ever, and even as he struggled to walk each day to meet Harry at the on campus McDonald’s, he still wouldn’t refuse to scoff down several burgers and fries, along with pancakes and ice cream, just to please his the most popular guy on campus.

Grocery Shopping Headcanons 1
I said I'd do these a while back and someone requested I do them when I was taking requests for my 100 followers event so uwu)/ one request fulfilled!! There will be a part two with the others coming eventually...Once I get through the rest of my requests.

Umemiya Hajime
-One of the funnest people to go grocery shopping with tbh.
He's talking you into buying a few extra snacks/food by holding them up in front of you and puppeting them at you, asking in a silly high pitched voice if you'll please buy them because they've heard your pantry is the best vacation spot in town! He gets so silly with it.
-The older people in town tell him when and where the best sales are, which makes budgeting a lot easier. Don't tell anyone, but sometimes if one of them is in front of you in line, they'll have the cashier use their senior discount for your stuff as well. Don't try to fight them on it, though; they'll insist the only thing they need is for you both to visit them every once in a while, which you planned to do regardless.
-Gets upset if he hasn't found you in the store for a while after leaving to pick some things up. Once he does see you, he acts like it's been weeks and refuses to leave your side for the rest of the shopping trip. He's quite literally stuck to you like glue.
-The type to have really funky or cute looking reusable bags.
Choji Tomiyama
-Can't stay on task to save his life. If you're pushing the cart, he will stand on the other side of it being pushed around. He insists he'll take turns, but he gets a bit too enthusiastic with how fast he should be going through the aisles. Nearly runs a few people over before you decide maybe just pushing it normally works best.
-Do not let him disappear on you; he'll end up at some other grocery store two miles down the street.
-Sometimes he knows your tastes better than you do. If you're deliberating over trying something new, 9/10 times he's correct about how you'll like it. He actually pays a lot of attention to what you like to eat and drink.
-Calls Togame and not only asks him what he wants from the store, but tells him to come down by the time you guys are done to help carry your stuff. He hasn't said no to Choji yet.
-He's feeding you both all the samples he can find until you realize you snacked so much you're not even hungry for dinner anymore.
Suo Hayato
-He's pretty relaxed compared to the other two. He'll let you take the reins for the most part since he's got all the stuff written down and knows each aisle it's in. He doesn't often stray from his normal foods so it's almost muscle memory now.
-When he does try something new, it's weird stuff. Like you didn't know this was in the store weird, what aisle does that even go in? You look around to see, and find nothing. He either took the last one or he was in the forbidden part of the grocery store.
-Sometimes, if he knows you're getting a lot, he brings the collapsible grocery wagon. (don't even play with me, this is the hottest thing someone could do for grocery shopping.)
-Watch out if you lose sight of him or he goes to grab something without you, because he WILL jumpscare you and you WILL have to try to smother your yelp.
Nirei Akihiko
-Extreme couponing Nirei edition tbh he's got it down to a science
-Knows a surprising amount of recipes by heart, so if you're trying hard to remember what you need for what you wanna make? Don't even get out your phone to struggle with finding enough bars (because for some reason grocery stores are iron fortresses that don't have cell service?) Nirei has it all up there in his beautiful brain.
-He's never in a rush and doesn't really separate from you (why would he want to?) He's just thrilled to spend time with you.
-Also one to have a bunch of different reusable bags.
-If you have a certain diet or need a certain ingredient, he knows all the specialty food stores around and is more than okay with making the extra stop with you.
-He has a certain type and brand of ice cream he likes to get as a treat every time, and although he tells you he doesn't need it, if they happen to be out of stock, he deflates a little.
Sakura Haruka
-You wouldn't think someone could be bad at grocery shopping, but....he's bad at it. An excess of meats and carbs is what comes home if you send him by himself, so it's best just to go together.
-Also you could swear he's giving a nasty look to the vegetable section hoping you don't pick any terrible ones up (though what's terrible to him is most of them)
-You catch him trying to hide if he sees someone he knows because to him, it'll just make it a longer grocery trip, and honestly, he just wants to go home with you. Point out who he's hiding from and say hi and watch the look of betrayal as he's turning red and grumbling.
-It takes him a bit, but after a few trips he starts to get the hang of things. He can tell the better meat cuts, and now knows to check the eggs to make sure they're not cracked. Sometimes, he texts you a picture of the vegetables you're looking for to make sure they're the right ones or to make sure they're your preferred ripeness if you're not there
The self checkout becomes his best friend, that way he doesn't have to worry about making small talk. He's screwed when he picks up meats, though, because the scale never picks up the weight properly, and then he's sweating waiting for one of the workers to come help him out.
-Refuses to let you carry the bags in, and is also one of those people who insist on loading up all the groceries on his arms at once. There will be no second trips to the car.

I’m sorry but the whole Connor Bedard having an allergic reaction because his trainer wouldn’t let him have fast food reminds me of when sdpn said that Bedard’s mom said he’s never had fast food before and like she said she knew eventually and it IS good for him to not have fast food, but it makes me think of diet culture and eating disorders. Like the no fast food thing still leaves a variety of food, and I’m sure he’s had pizza before; it’s really the fact that he couldn’t even have pizza ONE time with his team because his trainer wanted him to ‘eat healthy’ for the game (guess what due pizza is healthier than having an allergic reaction). Even if he had been on a crazy strict diet and got sick because his body wasn’t used to what’s in pizza, it’d still be healthier than an allergic reaction (and again, clearly he doesn’t care about Connor’s health just what he can do for the trainer’s image because he let him play the game and did care at all about how bad Connor was feeling.)
Like the obsession with food to the point you can’t eat xyz even once is eating disorder behavior, and I think the fact that players have to eat more than non/athletes and are expected/desire to get bigger is one of the reasons why eating disorders aren’t as common, but imagine how this messes with their heads. Like people who are like “oh my trainer is going to be mad at me for eating xyz one time don’t tell them” is like K-pop idols with management that pushed eating disorders to keep idols’ bodies marketable territory. NHL players are adults and now one should care about their diet to the point that they get mad at them for having one meal that goes against their nutrition plan. They are adults who make their own decisions and nutrition plans should a guideline to help players get what they need not a list of DO NOT EAT THIS foods or specific foods they have to eat.
(Also I think the nhl’s concept of ‘team’ is a little too close to the corporate ‘family’ which is always used to dehumanize employees and get them to give up their free time/health/family/identity for the benefit of the corporations bottom line that is never payed back to the employees. Like yes there’s the team as in the players, but there’s also that concept of team that is the pressure to get players to hurt themselves to win and shut up if they experience discrimination and also to shut up if they disagree with the nhl’s safety protocols that aren’t even follow a lot of the time.)

It looks like a more passive time, you'll have to really be patient. You are more in a place of receiving and of receptivity. Also, significant partnerships. Now, let's dive a little deeper into the reading. You could have major moodswings. Now that could be something typical of you. Otherwise, it could be due to the situations you will be facing. First of all, you will be dealing with temptation, bad habits. If you are into gossiping, the cards are saying that's a bad habit. You could feel guilty about something or some habits. There will be a massive transition or transformation happening in your life during the next 5 months, maybe a whole overhaul even. Lots of messages and news, maybe even invitations, letters. Maybe a lot of purchases, like books, essentials, even maybe a new laptop, etc. New hobbies or just hobbies and projects in general. I'm also seeing learning from other people, like learning by watching and then trying the same yourself. Travelling or relocating is possible. You will be busy, but still it looks like you are heading towards better times. Just remember to delegate your chores and such. Emotionally you will master your emotions at this time. You could feel like you are doing what you are supposed to be doing, like you feel fulfilled in that sense. Now, let's dive a little deeper into the reading. You have a lot of messages about stillness and resting. Also, to pause for a minute and really pay attention to the little details, to signs. Like if you are looking at a picture, look at the details, look at the symbols. If let's say you are taking a exam, take a pause to really look at the details, pay attention to them. 5.⚖️ For pile 5, the focus will be on you and partnerships. A time to find balance and peace within, acceptance, actively working on your emotions. It seems you'll have dreams you want to pursue, fearlessly following your desires and passion. A lot of movement. There is a focus on your needs and what you want and need. Also, on your abundance, finances, what you own and health. There could be some conflicts of interest, so much you wanna do. But also, drama and competition. It's like it would be better to take a step back and first see what's going on. You have eyes on you. Self-care. Possibly romance. On one hand, it looks very mundane but very active. You'll be busy. Now, let's dive a little deeper into the reading. There is definitely a strong theme of learning lessons, to see the bigger picture, understanding and higher heart healing. Maybe even ancestral healing. You are called to heal and ascend and to recognize your purpose. Peaceful resolution. I also see the possibility for travelling and sight-seeing. But it could be also just higher interest to visit museums and such. I see history here and also expansion and high views like going to high places and looking at the views. You could also be taking classes or maybe you are a student. A lot about intentions and purpose. You'll be having a lot of questions and questioning your beliefs and people's beliefs, flipping everything upside down. Maybe it's related to your studies. Also, patience and planning, plans, co-operation, teamwork. Abundance and service is coming through as well. Wish wisely. A wish could come true, so really think about what you truly want and need the most at this time. And have faith. It also looks like you will be more childlike. Of course, you might have kids or be around kids. But otherwise, it's gonna be more your energy. Being more playful and curious, initiative, doing some silly and fun stuff and being open and warm. Going off that post about nutrition and science, I'd love to hear what you think of the 5:2 diet/The Fast 800 and its creator, Dr. Michael Mosley. For context: in order to get an NHS-funded breast reduction (it's a gender thing, but also just a general quality-of-life thing), I need to be a certain BMI, so I've been referred to a weight management clinic. The lady I've been seeing initially just put me on a low-carb diet (130g or less of carbs per day, with an aside from her about how bullshit Keto and BMI limits for treatment are), but now she's said that, if I wanted to speed up the weight loss, I should include the 5:2 diet: 5 days in a week where I eat "normally", and 2 fast days in which I restrict myself to 800kcals. I did a little looking into it myself, and found that 5:2 - which I HAD heard about before - is now being sold as part of "The Fast 800", with Dr. Mosley being the creator of it. I was shocked by that, because I was already a fan of Dr. Mosley's work (he has a podcast called "Just One Thing" that I really liked, and thought contained reasonable-sounding advice), and yet having a diet plan that he's clearly making money off of does immediately make me feel suspicious. I've borrowed his "The Fast 800" book from the library, both to find out more about the diet I've been put on and to see if it's at all backed by evidence, and he does cite a bunch of scientific studies which seem to back up his ideas, but I don't know how valid they are, and I don't just want to accept them at face-value (especially since he's a "we got fat completely wrong in the 80s, therefore we should eat a Mediterranean diet!" types). Obviously I'll go with what my weight management lady suggests, since she's obviously more qualified to talk about it than I am, but I am curious to know what you think, and whether I'm right to be distrustful of all of this.
I am, generally speaking, against any diet for rapid weight loss. They're not sustainable so people gain the weight back (often with more weight getting added on).
There have also recently been findings that suggest that BMI cutoffs for top surgery are detrimental to patients as patients in higher BMI categories are more likely to have minor complications like UTIs or to be readmitted, but are not likely to have major complications or be at risk of significant harm from having top surgery. I don't know if anybody will listen if you bring up that study, and I know that GCS is fraught in many places for many reasons.

One of my best friends is a guy who was pressured into a pattern of disordered eating and unhealthy exercise in order to qualify for top surgery; since then he has not been able to eat in a healthy way and has struggled with alternating between exercising to the point of harm and other destructive behaviors that make him unhappy and unsafe. And he didn't need that. He didn't need any of that! He needed a very safe surgery that had perhaps a slightly higher risk of minor complications at his size and instead he got top surgery and an eating disorder! I hate it! I'm so fucking mad about it!
Also as near as I can tell Michael Mosley qualified as a psychiatrist in the 90s, spent very little time working as a psychiatrist, and then became a media personality. From what is visible on his website and every biography I've found for him he apparently doesn't have any background in nutrition beyond whatever is standard for someone in medical school (which is NOT MUCH).
Hey I just looked at his website and this is straight-up fucked up.
Anybody recommending an 800 calorie a day diet for 2-12 weeks in a context that is not heavily medically supervised can fucking choke. That is *ridiculously* dangerous and the website says that this can improve insulin resistance but there are a shitload of studies about people on crash diets like this *developing* insulin resistance (oh hey like my friend who became prediabetic after his rapid significant weight loss).
Also in regard to the studies he cites on the website, the "two years later patients are still going strong in their diabetes improvements" it's really important to put shit like that in context
at 5 years 13% of the original intervention group were in remission from their type two diabetes; the average weight loss experienced by the intervention group as a whole was 6.1kg compared to 4.6kg in the control group. That's 1.5kg lower for the people who went through a twelve week medically supervised very low calorie diet compared. That's an average difference of 3.3 pounds between "starvation diet" and "no diet" for the Americans in the audience.
Yours is the second comment I've seen that has been leery of the Mediterranean diet, btw, and the Mediterranean diet is fine. It's very achievable and not super gimmicky and is based on very reasonable reassessments of fat, not the hardcore "you are fine to eat 100g of fat a day" kind of attitude that you get from the keto crew. There isn't really one Mediterranean diet and it certainly isn't low carb (which the bits from Mosely's website seem to indicate it is).
So, no, honestly I don't think much of Mosely and I'm very sorry you're in this situation, that sucks and I hate that they're refusing you treatment until you undergo an exceptionally difficult and potentially harmful weight loss excursion.
I know you're probably stuck with that and it's bullshit and I think it fucking sucks and unfortunately the medical advice you're likely to get is "eat in a significantly disordered manner at least until it is time for surgery" and it blows. That just fucking sucks.
If you're looking for rapid weight loss that you don't plan to sustain (and you shouldn't plan to sustain it, it won't stay off) you may want to look into body building forums for how they discuss cuts. It's still disordered eating and it's still not healthy, but at least they're effective and can tell you what supplements will keep you from becoming malnourished while you prepare for surgery. This is a terrible idea. I don't actually want to give this advice to anyone but bodybuilders are the exact kind of people who know how far and how fast they can push weight loss while having an awareness that it isn't really good for them and it won't stay off.
I cannot overstate enough how much I hate the thought that people are being encouraged to rapidly starve themselves in order to prepare to recover from surgery. I am so sorry and I'm so mad and
