you guys will never know how much sorrow i feel from the farewell my mask event. i swear i am THE farewell my mask lover like i fw it since the first translation being saying goodbye to my persona/masked self and jp release. each time i re-read the event or listen to engeki i still realize how much mafuyu has improved since the start of the game 🙏

since the big n25 arc ender event starts tomorrow, let's look back on how the past four events have been building up to this moment.

guiding a lost child was when mafuyu's relationship with her mother first took a turn for the worse. i believe she loses her synthesizer in this event, the first instance of her mom interfering with n25. and it includes mafuyu's biggest act of rebellion to date: skipping a test to spend time with her friends. now her mom suspects there's a bad influence in her life. and of course, we have the honestly haunting flashback of when mafuyu got lost. comparing this to the flashback in mirage of light, there's a stark contrast maybe not in the content of the memories, but in their place in the story. the flashback here reframes her mom as the problem from the start, something which mafuyu is starting to realize.

hope will someday go beyond the morning acts as a calm before the storm. for one night, ena is able to shield mafuyu from her mother. mafuyu experiences a "warm" family dynamic that further convinces her that hers is toxic. but we know that she'll go back to that same home the next day. hope doesn't yet go beyond the morning.

immiscible discord is when shit starts to hit the fan, after mafuyu's finds out about n25. the last emoty sekai vocaloid is introduced, the last aspect of mafuyu's feelings. kaito predicts immediate danger and demands immediate action. mafuyu's mom finally gets a sprite here, and we along with kanade are finally able to see her for who she really is. we see that she doesn't care one bit about mafuyu's true feelings and desires. at this point, reconciliation is no longer an option.

in we escape to survive, n25's situation becomes obviously unsustainable. they can't keep sneaking around mafumom's surveillance and waiting for another crackdown. something has to break. then, the event introduces the prospect of running away as a solution for mafuyu, only in a temporary and figurative sense for now, but the foreshadowing is there.
