Sonamy then and now in my royalty/fantasy au:

I went through so much trial and error with this and I’m going to call it lol. Here’s some lore under the cut though:

I imagine this scene takes place 4-5 years after Sonic and Amy had last seen each other. Sonic expected Amy to tackle him upon her and Knuckles’s arrival but was pleasantly surprised when she didn’t. Instead, Amy simply curtsied and inquired how he had been, and that she hoped he’d been well, before moving on to converse with Blaze and Ayla. Sonic brushes it off and joins in on Knuckles and Silver’s conversation but can’t help looking over and wondering whether Amy truly had moved on, and the possibility he may have realised his own feelings too late.

He’ll later realise that she’s just hiding her feelings for him (thanks to an insider tip from Ayla when he goes to her asking for advice) but bc he’s more shy about openly admitting his affection, he leans more towards trying to hint at it (horribly) until Amy initiates the conversation. Spoiler: he initiates first since Amy would be stubborn about her new resolve to hide her feelings for him 😁

I've had a scenario in mind for a while now about what it would take for Sonic to finally own up to his feelings about Amy. And I think what it would take is...

Shadow.

Well, just plain jealousy and a fear of losing Amy before he even has her. But Shadow would be the best one to instigate it.

First, some headcanons about how they behave romantically:

Amy's maturing and spreading her wings. She's not moving on from Sonic, not really, but it's possible that she's starting to notice other guys. There's some hints in the Twitter takeovers that she may be developing some small interest in Shadow.

Sonic is clearly interested in Amy, and if you pay attention, he has been for a long time. What he's not interested in is marriage- at least, not yet. And Amy is clearly wifey material- she cooks, she takes care of people, she has a caring nature, she's protective, and she's extremely loyal. She's not someone you can use for a one-night stand, you take all of her or you risk shattering her into pieces. She's Sonic's friend, no matter what else he may feel about her, so he avoids any romantic interaction because he doesn't want to hurt his friend.

Meanwhile, Shadow is... not aro-ace, per se, I don't know what you'd call him. He can see that Amy is attractive, but so is Rouge, and Shadow has no interest in Rouge. He just isn't interested in the physical side of romance.

What I think it would take to get Shadow's attention is something deeper, an emotional or spiritual connection.

So here's the Sonamy/Shadamy love triangle scenario that I came up with:

As Amy ages, she feels her desire for male companionship growing stronger. Sonic takes little notice of it, but it doesn't escape Shadow's attention.

Somehow or other, Shadow and Amy end up alone together, probably on a mission or something. I haven't figured out the exact circumstances, but they're together for quite a while. Amy loves to talk to people and get to know them, and Shadow has a soft spot for her, so she's able to get him to talk to her about things that he's probably never told anyone before. And he knows she won't tell anyone about them, either, so he feels safe telling her.

At some point, Shadow realizes, she's done it. She's broken through his barriers, and at the same time, she's calmed the storm of emotions that he's had swirling inside him for 50-odd years. He hasn't felt such peace since... no, not even then. This is something else. He's never felt this way before, and he doesn't have the words to describe it, but he's fallen head over heels for her.

This is why he never lets his guard down, even around the people he trusts most. Because if he lets them in, even a little bit, he might let them in too far. ("Can you see all of me, walk into my mystery, step inside and hold on for dear life.")

He loses control of himself and kisses Amy.

And when he lets go, he instantly hates himself, he starts throwing his barriers back up, because... she's crying. She's crying because she liked it, and she wants more of it, but she's still so desperately in love with Sonic, and she's starting to think she'll never get it from him, so she'll accept affection from just about any man, and it's not like Shadow's unattractive, and, and, and...

So Shadow's raw and open and hurting, he knew before he said or did anything that he was going down a dangerous path, but talking to Amy felt so good he didn't want to stop. And he wants to erase what just happened like it never did. But now he has to be the one to comfort Amy, because this was his fault, Amy was just being the kind and compassionate person she always was and Shadow was an idiot for letting it get to him and making more of it than what it was and losing control. So he has to keep his barriers down for just a moment longer, just long enough to hold Amy and tell her it's not her fault, until her tears finally stop.

It leaves Shadow burning with rage, and as soon as he can, he forcefully confronts Sonic (I imagine Shadow slamming Sonic against a wall or a tree and shouting in his face 😝) and basically tells him, "Amy needs attention from a man, she wants that man to be you, but if you can't grow up and do what it takes, then I'll be more than glad to take your place."

Which scares Sonic good and proper. It's bad enough to think that he could lose Amy, anyway, but to lose her to that faker??? And it finally makes him go to Amy and (very, very awkwardly) ask her to be his girlfriend. And... I'll let y'all imagine the rest.

As for Shadow... he, quite understandably, becomes somewhat aloof towards both Sonic and Amy for a long time after that.

But Shadow's immortal, right? And there's other Amy's in the world. He doesn't have to be alone forever.

Oh, and as for why Shadow would confront Sonic instead of just taking Amy for himself: because he respects both Amy and, especially, himself far too much to do that. He knows good and well she will never be able to fully commit to anyone else as long as Sonic is still an option. If Shadow was to start dating her, she'd go along with it, but it would become a power play between him and Sonic to try to "win" Amy's affections. Shadow has no issues with fighting Sonic over just about anything, but when it comes to his own feelings, he won't stoop that low, and he's not about to hurt himself by playing such a game. I also don't think he would view Amy as "a prize to be won."

SonAmy Week 2024, Day 5 - Fantasy

Bet you weren't expecting a dramatic SonAmy x Owl House crossover for Day 5, were you? 😉

When "Fantasy" became the prompt to draw, I had a hard time deciding which route to take. I didn't want to just draw something that was generic. It had to be a specific reference to a movie or show. I bounced around from Robin Hood to The Swan Princess to The Familiar of Zero (some obscure anime you probably never heard of) before finally settling with The Owl House. 😊

To prepare for this drawing, I took a personality test each for Sonic and Amy to see which coven they would join if they existed in the Boiling Isles. For Sonic, he got the Illusion coven, so I drew him making clones of himself to fight (he moves so fast that it looks like he can already create the illusion of being in multiple places at once, so I thought the Illusion coven was a perfect fit for him 💙). For Amy, she got the Construction coven, so I drew her erecting walls to protect her and Sonic from Belos and the coven scouts, also wielding a Piko Piko Hammer she made from scratch (she's always been so strong and tough, so the Construction coven really works for her, too. 🩷)

This has got to be the busiest drawing I've made so far this week. I apologize if you can't quite see everything very well (hence why I explained it in detail here), my shading skills aren't the best with a pencil. Regardless, this was a great challenge for me and I had a TON of fun drawing this. Hope you like it! 😁

My cute Unicorn 🎶 My Cute Unicorn ( Humble parody of My little Pony) lol the fifth day of the SonAmy Week I decided to draw my favorite versión SonAmy Boom, on a rainy night at Amy's house, Sonic and her spent their time watching Amy's favorite show, but in a few moments Amy began to fantasize about her and Sonic Unicorns version and a unicorn wedding was taking place, Sonic didn't know exactly what was happening to Amy but he was doubting her fantasy

A story of Farmer Amy protecting her village. She’s covered in dirt and scars and muscle. She still loves cute things and dress pretty when she has the chance, but protecting her home from a threat that still hasn’t left means she doesn’t really get the chance.

The villagers appreciate her hard work, but no one her age stays in the village. They all left for more. It’s just her, the older villagers and the younger kids.

So when someone from the demon lords army comes to investigate and maybe recruit the clearly a demon warrior, they have a small misunderstanding.

Mostly because one of the kids made it sound like he was there to propose marriage. That got the older villagers hopes up, they don’t even care he’s a demon someone finally wants to marry their thorny rose!

Some how they get stuck in a magical bond (one of the kids is a witch in training- not even an apprentice yet!) and when Amy’s long time crush, the hero destined to defeat the demon lord comes by because he heard a demon showed up in his home village, he wanted to see what’s up.

An argument arose and the “little” problem that Amy has been combatting shows up.

“Why the Fxck didn’t you ask me to deal with that!?”

“Because I can handle it!”

“You almost lost an arm! I should have known! Why didn’t anyone report this?”

“Sonic, we did. No one came.”

“….I have some questions. But for now- we should really do something about this Magic eater.”

The Magic eater was as strong as ever and eventually it runs back to where ever it is spawning from.

“Sigh��� it’s been ruining the land…this year’s harvest is going to be even smaller….”

“Oh, is that why every young adult has left? Other than you, I only see children and elderly.”

“Yeah…. They want to support their families while not taking too much food. So they left to send money and supplies. They always send letters, but so far no one has come on their request to see what’s going on here.”

“I’m sorry Amy, I wish I knew sooner. I’ll want to stay, but I also want to know why no one has come for you guys. This is the village I came from, one would think the king would have this place especially looked after…. Kind of suspicious….”

You can do with this what you like, but in this instance I would have gone for either Shadamy or SonShadAmy.

Like Sonic wanting Amy and Shadow separated because at first he didn’t want Amy stuck to a Demon, but now he wants to be the one stuck to the demon. He’s conflicted because he likes Amy, but he also like Shadow.

He’s a little jealous and it’s making him act up a bit.

Then Amy just bluntly states straight up facts that has Sonic slaughtered and feeling really stupid for not thinking clearly.

Amy is in love with Sonic.

He knows this.

Amy is in love with Shadow.

They both figured that one out.

Shadow likes Amy and Sonic.

He’s said as much.

Sonic is in love with Shadow and Amy.

He’s a fxcking idiot.

Doesn’t help that the kids are making fun of him for being stupid.

If you want to toss in Princess Mage Blaze go a head.

Royal/fantasy AU on the brain… so here’s a colored sketch of the Sonamy dynamic I’ve been playing with:

I want to play off of Sega’s recent attempt at trying to portray Amy as more than just her love for Sonic but without totally getting rid of it. In this AU she behaved how her early 2000s self would around Sonic up until about 14/15 years old but began feeling embarrassed about how she behaved and would cringe at the memories as she got older. She still has a LOT of love for Sonic but tries to play it cool and pretend she isn’t as into him as she once was. Meanwhile, as he’s gotten older, Sonic has slowly realized that he’s actually liked her back this entire time but now is kind of nervous to admit it. He totally sees through her disinterested act though 😁

Also realizing the colors make this look very Romeo and Juliet coded but it isn’t trust me, I’m just still workshopping the kingdoms and their motifs/color palettes 😭

Putting these under the cut because there are so many! And there's definitely more cool AUs that I haven't seen or haven't saved.

Seven Years Too Soon by NightFuchia. Basically what if a much younger Sonic accidentally set Shadow free from Prison Island. It has awesome characterization and happens to be one of my favorite stories. The rest of Team Sonic is also present

Brotherhood's Twist by @/drawloverlala even though I don't think it counts entirely as Au but it still sort of does. Unbreakable Bond ageswitch due to Zeti's meddling.

Passion's @sonic-tangled-au . I love it! So very much. The lore and backstories are so good.

Noonui's World Restored in Imbalanced Chaos au. Extremely engaging and good. Has a bunch of world building and fun concepts and lore.

Sonic's Super Totally Awesome Mixtape, though it seems to be discontinued, I'm not sure. It's pretty good so far! Takes place in the movie verse.

@brainworms-all-night-long is working on a Dreamtale Au which I'm hyped for. The tag in use is 'dreamtale and sonic tomfoolery'.

@/the-starlight-project comic is pretty good too. Mystery! And emotions. So many emotions ough.

The Fair Folk by Irritable_Fabulamancer, this fic is one of my favorites! Team Sonic as Fae my beloved! I love fae AUs.

On that note, if you're alright wanting to read a Fae!AU which is pretty much a sonadow fic, there is also I don't believe in fairy tales [but I believe in you and me]. Fantasy and Fae! Satbk inspired, another one that had me hooked.

My Arms Are Blue by thekyuubivixen and its unofficial, fan-continuation (My Arms Are Blue! Final Four Edition) by PlaystationPassenger. The story doesn't completely count as an AU but I'm recommending them anyway cuz they're really really good and has that watching your own show from different dimension trope. It's also hilarious and fun.

Burning Arrow, Wildfire Heart by Taranea is SatSR novelisation AU with Sonic's other friends present too, it's pretty fun. Not very accurate regarding the desert but it's a good read and I come back to reread it often. Must read in my opinion. Just don't dare use it as guide for desert travel or you'll be shriveled up in the sand somewhere

This fic. Read it, I will not elaborate this one. Just trust me :]

And don't miss out on @shadofiredragon's Legends Never Die fic. It's a future fic! And an awesome one. I won't spoil much but it is so good. She also has lots of fun AUs in the works.

Down the Foxhole series by MoonlitNightin. Sonic Prime AU series which is great! Tails' pov. The Shatterverses have their own Sonics. Engaging and great.

Feel free to check out @/Son1c's 10verse and other AUs. Those are some pretty great ones. Love the different lore and variants given to the Shatterverses in 10verse.

Spirit of the Wind by TrenchCoatGecko. Satbk inspired fantasy au. Sonamy, has focus on magic and lore and other characters as well.

@/sonicchaoscontrol comic. Another in-progress au which is also quite intriguing. Sonic jumps through a portal and exits in future where the planet is a mess. The mystery of what and how it all happened and what's going on slowly unfolds.

The Buzzsaw Dillemma by redpenship. I haven't personally read it myself but I've heard many good things about it, especially it's world building.

Incomplete and won't be updated anymore but if you haven't read them yet, DO NOT miss out on Ghosts of the Future and The Murder of Me fancomics by Evan Stanley (spiritsonic) and Gigi Deutrix (gigi-D) respectively. They're a must read. Both are available on DeviantArt.

The Heart of a Monster comic, @/the-heart-of-a-monster. It's in progress and updates regularly. Unleashed retelling, really really good with some extra lore and everyone involved.

Sometimes the Picket Fence isn’t Perfect and Sharp Edges (Sonic Prime AU) series by @/skimmingthesurfaces. I'm holding off the first one to read later, like that one book you've been saving so I'm not sure if it completely counts as an AU, still putting it in recs, and the second one is intriguing so far. I have heard a lot of good thing about the Picket Fence series.

Dark Boom by Smash50. The entirety of Team Dark in the Sonic Boom universe. Alongside it, there's also Boomtober by the same author.

It Always Snows by the 24th by Selendred had me hooked even though it's a oneshot. Great au and would love to see it explored more.

No One said I Wish by SylWritesStuff. One of my fav stories from the Sonic Platonic Fairytale Week event. It's really funny.

Sonic Phantom Forces (SPF) au comic. Sonic Forces au, blue boy gets taken away but not in the way you think, pretty cool story so far. It's in-progress and available on both Tumblr and DeviantArt. @/spfau

If Black Doom tried to be a better father by Tirainy. Don't take this one seriously. It's pure comedy and I love every second of it. Shadow is having a time for sure XD.

Silent Talkers by @brainworms-all-night-long. Takes place in the Prime Bros verse, feels intensified, all the good ones. A must read, trust me.

And speaking of the Prime Bros AU (in which all Shatterverse foxes also got adopted by Sonic and are now brothers), feel free to scroll through the 'prime bros' tag here. So many awesome posts for this particular au by everyone!

There's so many more, cool ones, epic ones. I haven't saved all and I'm probably forgetting some great ones too so I'm leaving this open for others to add. If y'all have more cool AUs, plz add to these (I wanna check em out too)

Premonition by thekiyuubivixen (not entirely an au but it feels like one due to the unique ability Sonic gains)

The Sonic Project by SconnieSA. Rated M but it's a pretty awesome AU and the rating is due to more serious themes and uncensored language in some parts. Highly recommending this one

Survivor's Resolve by DC111. Not entirely an AU but I must rec this fic it's so good and doea havs some AU vibes.

Sonic the Hedgehog: Attorney of Law by thedraconicwerewolf. Ace Attorney type AU with Sonic and Tails as main characters. Not too adventurous but very very fun and interesting and still managed to keep Sonic in character. Though it has a sequel started, I only rec the main story, not the sequal as it seems to be abandoned and isn't needed to be read like them cliffhanger stories.

beLIEve by Meow21. I have only read snippets from this, waiting for this story to continue but it seems to be discontinued. Felt like an epic story too and deserves to be recommended.

Sonic and the Golden Journey. Sonic gets thrown in another storybook, this time it's a children's classic fairytale. Short but very comedic and fun. Go read it.

Tales of a Samurai. I am begging you to read this one, please it's so good. Also by Taranea.

Wonderful and it's sequal Sanctuary by Inflamore for some Unbreakable Bond angst. (Kindly ignore the obliviousness of earlier ff.net for not knowing the meaning of certain symbols, there's nothing of the sort in story, trust me.)

Regrets by MazzyBooks. A high school au of sorts. Sonic centric with some heavy angst. I'm not kidding about the angst part, trust me. It had me hooked from the first chapter though and I believe it deserves a rec.

You need the cracks (to let the light shine through) by king.needlemouse. Istg this is the most underrated thing I've ever come across, it's one of my absolute favorite fics which I can never forget. Do read it.

Within this Nightmare by sonicfan1990. Sonic get transported to an alternate universe which has gone post apocalyptic and his counterpart in that universe has been dead. Pretty great story, lots of angst and everything.

And that's all I could remember and have saved for now. I'm leaving this open to more AU recs (yes even self plugs are welcome) so if you know any I missed, plz feel free to add. I hope you enjoy all these great AUs!
