Is it just me, or does the amount of nails in the Hell Priest's head change? For example, in the third film it appears as if he has so many more than any other film I've seen. At least, when he's stuck in the statue.

I don't think it's just you, there seem to be slight differences to the pattern and number of his nails from movie to movie after the first two. Perhaps the Doylist explanation is that the make-up teams weren't the same from film to film, and had to go off of notes taken or something instead of having prior artists instruct them on the make-up? Not sure there.

The Watsonian explanation, iirc, is that the number of nails in the Hell Priest's head directly correlate to their power. Don't quote me for certain on that, I've only just finished collecting the 2010 comics and I hope to read them this year, despite my apprehension and disdain for what I've heard about that run. But I do feel like I recall seeing something from the comics that more or less nods to this being the case? So perhaps the retroactive lore here is that the level of his power changes over time and more nails are added to reflect this? (Which would make sense, given he's referred to as "Leviathan's favored son".)

So I went ahead with the shark idea and since tiger sharks are solitary creatures I thought that would be best for X6-88. So unlike Nick, X6 has his synth components hidden but the tail still has the segments showing through. His clothes are cleaner and more put together with more protection too as the Institute always want to protect their own assets.

do you ever think about how you have such double standards for fic writers vs book authors and tv/movie writers?

like you don’t like when fic writers do xyz, but when you read it in a young adult novel you have no problem, or you see it on the screen and you love it.

that’s just so funny to me. the hypocrisy is so funny to me.

you’ll bitch about an age gap fic (even though both characters are concenting adults) but you adore call me by your name which has a 17 year old fucking a 24 year old (and i’m not bashing cmbyn i love that movie i’m just using it as an example).

you’ll bitch about adult fic authors writing minors having sex with each other but you’ll watch gossip girl where teenagers are fucking like crazy on screen.

you do realize that all of that was written by adults, right? most of the media you consume is created by adults. and when we write about teenagers fucking it’s not because we want to fuck teenagers. that’s gross. we’re writing about experiences, and we’re writing coming-of-age stories because we’ve already fucking been through that shit and we have life experiences that you don’t. if we didn’t the content you would have would fucking suck. it would suck.

most of your favorite fic writers are adults. your favorite novels and tv shows and movies were all written by adults. and if you enjoy that media anywhere except for when it’s in fics why is that? is it because fan fiction authors are more accessible to you? is it because you can find us on discord and tumblr and tell us all about your favorite and least favorite parts of what we’ve written? and you can’t do that with the authors of your favorite novels and the writers of your favorite tv shows and movies?

i just think your hypocrisy is bullshit, and maybe you should think more about what the fuck you say to people who write things for free. no one is forcing you to read anything. if you don’t like it don’t fucking read it and leave the people who do write it alone.

+Who Came First - You actually were dating Ji-Woon before you were dating Dwight. Though, to be fair, you often had to keep your relationship under wraps, considering his celebrity status. After an honest discussion, you both agreed that a third in the mix would make it easier to bear his long stints away from you for concerts.

+How You Met - You had been one of the few people to not recognize Ji-Woon on the spot. Given his massive ego, he immediately sought to rectify that by introducing you to his music… personally. It become a challenge to him to make music to catch your attention and obsession quickly turned to romance.

+Money is a Non-issue - Hak is the sort to view money with frivolity. Why not spend it? He’ll get more. He’s top of the charts, babe, go wild. Working is completely optional for you and more of a “pass the time” or a pride thing rather than a necessity. This blesses you with the delightful ability to backtalk shitty bosses and customers where other employees could not. Sometimes it’s nice to have a rich boyfriend!

+Enter Dwight - You two had shared an office space on one of these kill the time gigs. Dwight had admired your lack of fear in the face of your asshole boss and become absolutely besotted with you. You stood up for anyone that he harassed and took no shit. It didn’t take any great feat of detective work to know Dwight was crushing hard.

+You Make the First Move - Between his flushing, stuttering, and general Nervous Puppy vibes, you definitely had to take the first step here. After talking it over with Hak, showing off some sly pictures you snapped, he agreed that someone soft and needy would serve well. Ji-Woon supposed he could see the charm in someone so pathetic. (No, he wasn’t cooing over Dwight’s little tie, shut up).

+Up Front and Honest - This was the key that got Dwight into your relationship. You gently pulled him aside after work, offered to take him to dinner. Over a lovely candle-lit dinner at a mid-range Italian joint, you propositioned him to join your duo to make it a trio. He’d been embarrassed and hesitant, fidgeting with the hem of his shirt all night, but willing to give it a try.

+Dwight Also Did Not Know Ji-Woon - You? Hak could make an exception. One little person didn’t know who he was. That was fine. Easy to fix. Two of you? It was a little bit of a blow to his ego and you bet your ass he’s going to sulk for a few days. Maybe even a week. But, he will reluctantly admit, it is a bit nice to be enjoyed for him and not just his status. Don’t think that doesn’t mean he won’t sit you both down for a proper musical education, though.

+Ji-Woon is a Tease - He absolutely will pick on Dwight. After all, it’s a little hard to share your affection when he’s home. His teasing can range from stealing Dwight’s glasses to snide little comments to literally dragging you away mid-conversation. But, with a bit of scolding and encouragement, he’ll try to be nicer. You’re the super glue keeping this little party together. And Hak definitely will not admit to growing soft for on Dwight after some time and will deny it adamantly if confronted. But you definitely did see Ji-Woon yank Dwight by the tie to smooch him thoroughly.

+Dwight Grows - Now that money is no longer a fear for him as well, he’s able to be a bit more confident about standing up for himself at work. This bleeds into his every day choices. He’s more confident in showing his affection towards you, less sheepish about holding your hand, more eager to kiss you. He still struggles in larger groups but with you and Hak, he’s making great strides in coming out of his shell.

+Three is Never a Crowd - When Ji-Woon his home, you three often cuddle up and spend as much time together as possible. If one is glued to your side, high chance the other isn’t far behind. When Ji-Woon is off touring, you and Dwight spend a great deal of time together to soothe the empty slot in your bed. Cuddles, dates, and hobbies become your vice until Hak comes home. As much as you love the company of each other, you both agree the house always feels quiet when Ji-Woon isn’t there.

It just kind of happened.

Which okay, I know, it sounds ridiculous but it is true, you just sort of fell into your current relationship dynamic. It started off easy and casual, with Dan first, some late night, a few drinks and both of you laughing about something stupid. He was sitting up on the couch and you were on the floor, back leaning against his legs, trying to catch your breath and when your eyes opened up again, the way he was looking at you, the intent was clear. You made the first move, reached up, fingers caught in his shirt collar and tugged him down and kissed him first.

He definitely seemed to enjoy the fact you took the initiative, returning the kiss and you found yourself humming into it, hand still in the fabric of his shirt, tugging him closer. He took that as the perfect invitation to get you up on the couch with him, that first hook-up was very fucking good even if it didn’t go super far.

You talked about it the next morning, both were fine with what happened, it wasn’t weird and so it kept on happening. Honestly you and Dan made sense, had known each other for a long time and been roommates for months, it just fit.

Things started with Herbert a few months into what you had with Dan. He didn’t have to ask, I mean it was kind of obvious what was going on but he still asked and the conversation was interesting. You told him pretty honestly what was happening, that it wasn't the most serious thing, mostly it was just fun, he seemed to take that answer. Soon after that you started to notice him looking, lingering around you a little more, asking for some extra help with his work.

Same thing with Herbert, it just kind of happened one afternoon. You were organizing some of his notes and the conversation turned to what you were getting up to later and you told him that you and Dan were planning on hanging out. He asked if you were still “-just having fun.”

And you told him, easy smile on your face, “Sure are.” You looked at him as you said, “You know you seem really interested, can’t help but wonder why, maybe you want to have some fun too.”

He tried to refute what you said but you stood up, pushing your stool out and you came around the table to where he was, and got a little too in his personal space. You pulled his tie out of his white button up shirt and used it to pull him to you, “So sorry you’ve been feeling left out. I can fix it though.” And if the way he melted into that kiss was any indication he did in fact want to.

So it went, and somewhere along the way the time stopped being quite so separate and much more together and you couldn’t be happier about it. You wouldn’t think they could be so good at ‘sharing’ but it wasn’t like they were only sharing you.

Still pulling Herbert away from the basement could be a challenge, one that you and Dan couldn’t manage to pull off tonight. That was fine, you both made dinner, casually talking, ended up watching a movie, easy and light, very typical of you and Dan. And just as typical of you and him it turned physical, you had been doing the dishes from dinner after the movie and he had his hands on your waist and was leaning down, started to whisper in your ear and it was too easy to get distracted when he did that. You turned around in his grip and your arms wrapped around his neck and his hands started to slip up your shirt as your mouth met his and you abandoned the dishes for the night.

Before you knew it you ended up on your knees, his pants yanked down, your hand wrapped around the base of his shaft and your lips wrapped around him, eyes on his face as you pulled him deeper. You really loved this, getting to see his reactions, the way his breath caught when your tongue focused on that spot on that particular sensitive spot on the underside of his shaft. A favorite is to get him to the point of not being able to hold back, when his hands would grip your head and pull you closer, fucking into your mouth. You didn’t get to that point tonight, were pulled away out of the kitchen and both made your way upstairs, both of you falling into his bed. By the time it was done you were sweat soaked and spent, satisfied and ready for a good night's sleep. After some clean up you went to bed around eleven.

You were woken up somewhere around four AM. Sound of shoes being kicked off, shuffling clothes and Herbert telling you to, “Move over.”

You rubbed your eyes with a groan, you and Dan protested, you were absurdly comfortable and Dan’s bed wasn’t the most comfortable for three people, not to mention you didn’t exactly take too kindly to being woken up like this. “When it’s this late can’t you go to your own bed Herb?” Dan wrapped his arms around your waist, pulling you closer to him, face burying in the side of your neck, he hummed in agreement, “Yeah or at least be quieter when you try to invade mine?”

“I have ATTEMPTED to, many a time but neither of you move an inch unless you’re awake.” You sighed, “You’d think he’d take the hint if that’s the case.” Dan almost snorted into your skin and Herbert chose to ignore the dig as he complained, “It is so hot in here, how can either of you stand it?”

Dan’s head lifted a little as he said, “I think it’s cozy.” You agreed, “Mmm, comfortable. I think you are just too used to the basement. Perhaps if you graced us with your presence more often you could tolerate temperatures warmer than the corpses you spend so much time with.”

“I come to bed, something you both continually insist upon, instead of pulling an all-nighter and I get insulted.” You looked up at him and responded, “If you stopped making it so easy I might stop doing it.”

The back and forth went on for a while longer, even with you being tired you couldn’t help it. It was true that you didn’t get as much time with him as you liked so when you did you enjoyed teasing poor ol Herbert, and had a little too much fun with your dynamic. Dan however was exhausted and put a stop to it, “For the love of God, shut up and get in this bed or go to your own already Herbert.”

He huffed, “Fine, good night.” And he turned and left, clearly choosing his own, you watched him leave and you let out a small sigh, you rolled over and asked Dan, “Why’d you do that?”

“I’m just so tired and it kept going and going, I just want to sleep.” He still had his arms around you and his eyes closed, clearly hoping this would be the end of it. “Herbert is just being Herbert, you know that.”

He let out a small groan, “You know it always is so much worse when you provoke him.” He had a point, you could have scooted and left well enough alone and let him into bed but he just brought it out of you, made it so easy, hard to not help yourself.

“He is trying, he’s making an effort and we can’t leave him like that.” He didn’t say anything for a moment before a heavy sigh before his arms unwrap from around you and he sat up, “Come on.”

Herbert is in his own bed and had just gotten comfortable, the door opened and his glasses off he squinted, soon you and Dan were on either side of his bed, half dressed, sleepy and dragging extra pillows and blankets with you.

Before Herbert could question or say anything you were heaping your extra pillows and blankets onto the bed, your knee coming down next to him on the mattress, you were looking down at him, hand came down and brushed some of his hair back, fond smile as you told him, “Move over.”

I read the ask about the origami and the flower crowns and bracelets and it got me thinking about how Pinhead would feel getting a perfect giant paper crane. Like this thing is maybe a 1' x 1' paper crane with precision folds used with a ruler to get the sharpest folds with maximum measuring. I know he's not a character you write for, but it just has me thinking and I'd like to know your thoughts.

Now I haven't delved too deep in thinking about Pinhead, though I've watched the films, but I do feel you have a point here. He seems to be one that wouldn't really want to just go about it in a careless way, he'd want to make the folds just right to the point it looks as if it was crafted in the most perfect way possible. He just seems like a perfectionist type, to be in control of everything he does, including crafts.

Now I'm curious, any more thoughts on that?

I just felt the need to share that I just watched the second Hellraiser movie (loved it, but that's not the point) and I just ended up going down a small rabbit hole about whether or not Pinhead/Elliot Spencer would know the game Rock, Paper, Scissors. (Spoiler: He might, assuming the timeline provided in the wiki for his life before being a cenobite is correct. Rock, Paper, Scissors was introduced to Britain in the 1920s, though has been around in China for a lot longer --around the 1600s!. Though since WW1 ended officially in 1918 and Elliot was in India I suppose in the 1920s he could've also potentially missed it unless it was a thing in India before then --I can't find when it was introduced to India.)

I just felt that I needed to share my findings, and I hope you now enjoy the visual of him either playing rock, paper, scissors, or learning how to play.

Now I'm picturing the Cenobites settling arguments over which of them gets to torture new victims with rounds of rock-paper-scissors ROFL

Oooooooo this is a wild one I'm going for it asdfgfdesdf

1. My biggest one is probably the horror dudebros who can't handle people enjoying newer horror movies and continuing to bitch and whine about how all remakes are terrible and how horror was better in the 80s and no one understands anymore wee woo wee woo

2. Any time a horror movie in the past few years STILL uses the trope of "evil mentally disabled person" or "evil trans person/crossdresser" or anything else along those lines. (I watched Incident in a Ghostland on Netflix on a whim and it had both those things and for a 2018 movie it was ridiculous they still had that shit in it not to mention the director put the main actress into unsafe working conditions and left her face permanently scarred by mirror shards so yeah kinda shit all the way around)

3. People who feel the need to get in ur business for liking slashers, like if that makes me problematic for liking horror movies and fictional murderers then I'm problematique baybee

4. Edgy or shock horror, specifically if you have gross depictions of sexual assault or any sort of similar abuse or trauma that's played off to be super intense just for the sake of being shocking. And this isn't to say I hate horror with these things in it, I just think it's really gross when horror movies include a lot of exploitation but don't actually say anything about it.

5. Kind of a silly one to include cause I'm having a hard time thinking of another at the moment, but the fact that I haven't been hired to write a Freddy Krueger film. It's been my dream since I was in college and if whatever studio still is afraid to make a remake with him cause of all the dudebros who got big mad (even tho there were plenty of actual good criticisms of it, but I see it more as studios being terrified to cast Freddy as anyone other than Robert because of how much hate Jackie Earle Hayley got) Please just let me take whatever heat that people are gonna bitch about, I'm not even on twitter I'm immune to criticism let me make a good ass Freddy film ffs

[2HA analysis blog] To love you is torment but leave you I cannot

I wanted to write this (hopefully not-too-long) blog to give 2HA fandom a different perspective of the events in the past timeline. I noticed that there are many little things that could not be carried over to the English language. These little things can give more explanations to our characters’ actions so I hope sharing this would help the novel make more sense. This blog focuses on Taxian-jun and Chu Fei.

Warning: Spoilers ! ! ! Taxian-jun and Chu Fei are their own trigger warnings ! ! !

Despite the novel having 350 chapters, we really know little about what happened between Taxian-jun and Chu Fei besides the abuse and mistreatment and that little is relayed to us by the Most Unreliable Narrator of the Cultivation World - Mo Ran Mo Weiyu. If we only take Mo Ran for his words then a lot of his and Chu Wanning’s decisions told later on would seem irrational and almost silly. So let’s dive deep in the past so we can understand how the great cultivator Beidou Xian-zun could raise such a dumb husky since the events in the past would explain the more irrational decisions made by both main characters.

Given Mo Ran’s narrator is about as reliable as his character in the first 120 chapters, we have to look at other more subtle clues and some of them are due to cultural and linguistic differences.

1. I used to like you a lot

At his coronation day, Taxian-jun stated that he once greatly looked up to Chu Wanning and that he used to love and respect him dearly. Maybe I am reading into this too much but this is my theory: The flower could erase the memory itself but cannot erase the feelings associated with the memory. He had his memories of the good deeds Chu Wanning did for him erased but still remembered that he used to love and respect him. It doesn’t make sense unless it is indeed that the flower could not erase its host’s feelings. So throughout the novel, Mo Ran’s complicated emotions are complicated possibly because he could not remember how he came to have these feelings. Similarly, Hua Binan could mess with the undead Taxian-jun’s memory to a great extent but could not erase his obsession with Chu Wanning.

2. I gave you a new title

Chu Fei. 楚妃. In the Imperial Chinese harem hierarchy, “Fei” means consort and not concubine (嬪 “Pín"). Consorts were highly respected positions in the palace weidling much political power and were only seconds to the Empress Consort. Another major difference is a consort would be married to the emperor while a concubine would not. So if Taxian-jun had truly wanted to only humiliate Chu Wanning and keep him for the carnal pleasures (I am intentionally ignoring his breeding kink completely), he would keep him as a concubine but he gave Chu Wanning the Consort title and hid him from the world. At this point, Taxian-jun had almost lost Chu Wanning once and had spent a lot of effort to bring him back from the verge of death after hearing Chu Wanning’s apology so his anger might have softened a bit. Also, given that Chu Wanning is a man, having a legitimate offspring ( (I am still intentionally ignoring Mo Ran's breeding kink completely) is not an issue so although this is not clearly stated, I believe Taxian-jun wanted to force a relationship and somewhat proper marriage on Chu Wanning. Another hint of this is in an Extra chapter where Taxian-jun tried to get Chu Wanning a birthday gift. He recalled that in his past timeline, he had wanted Chu Wanning to give him something on his birthday as well and that he had wanted Chu Wanning’s heart.

3. Shizun likes to write letters and poems

On Book 3 Chapter 247, Chu Wanning sat down and wrote a few unsent letters to the people he used to know. He also wrote a few lines of poetry. In the first few lines taken from different literature works, he expressed his sense of helplessness and his wish to remain untainted despite the circumstances. The more important two lines are from a poem written by a real poet named Fàn Chéngdà ( 范成大) who lived in the 12th century Southern-Song dynasty. The two lines read:

“May I be like the stars, may you* be as the moon. Night after night, may we shine together side by side.” **

*In the original work, the character used instead of you is “jun” 君 (as in 踏仙君 Taxian-jun). 君 could mean king, emperor, lord, or gentleman ** This is my rough translation - I haven’t found an English version of this poem

These two lines are commonly used in romantic novels as a way to express one’s unchanging love and loyalty to another person despite the circumstances. He compared himself as the stars and wanted to remain by Taxian-jun whom he viewed as the moon. Chu Wanning wrote this to express his willingness to stay but he would never voice this out loud. In the next timeline, he did the same thing by quietly loving and caring for Mo Ran 1.0 despite the mistreatment and was content with never expressing his feelings vocally. Mo Ran was rather uneducated and thus could not fully comprehend these two lines and misunderstood that Chu Wanning was missing Xue Meng.

4. You are all I have left

In chapter 252, after Chu Wanning returned to The Red Lotus Pavilion, he found Taxian-jun already waiting for him. Taxian-jun told Chu Wanning about a dream he had and said:

“I am afraid I don’t resent you… I want to resent you… Otherwise, I…” “In the end, it’s just you and I”.

This is not the first time he expressed that Chu Wanning was all he had left or they only had each other. I believe that at this point, Taxian-jun might have somewhat believed Chu Wanning and recognized that his memories were missing. His words and behaviors seemed a lot more gentle and he mentioned they did have periods of time where their marriage was easier. I believe it was after this point. He told us about the numerous times he attempted to spoil his consort or expressed his affection through gifts, a trip outside the palace, goods, jewels, and even teaching Chu Wanning how to cook or personally taking care of Chu Wanning when he was sick. At one point, Taxian-jun expressed his wish for a more peaceful marriage with Chu Wanning through his breeding kink by saying that if they had children, perhaps they would be more civil towards each other.

5. Are you still mad?

This is a smaller detail but in the original text and the Vietnamese official translation, the way they talked to each other had a bit more of the “husband-wife” dynamic. Especially Chu Wanning ( l┐(︶▽︶)┌ ), the comment section said he sounded like when your wife is mad that you didn’t take out the trash but still says: “I’m not mad” and Taxian-jun, the husband, would come around and ask “Are you still mad at me?” after every fight.

6. I did not think you would really leave me.

On Chapter 99, Mo Ran recalled the fight between him and Chu Wanning after an assassination attempt. In order to convince Mo Ran to not go to Taxue Palace, Chu Wanning said:

“If you destroy Taxue palace, if you kill Xue Meng, I will die before you”.

Now the line “I will die before you” in my language is less of a suicidal ideation but more of a threat. It's used when a person already knows that they are important to the other person and is using their own death as a threat to make the other person do something. This line is thrown around a lot during heated arguments between people close to each other but they almost never mean it. (Even my mom said it numerous times before T_T . I personally think it’s manipulative). Therefore, it is understandable Taxian-jun did not take this line seriously and replied almost mockingly. After all, they had been married for almost a decade at that point, Taxian-jun probably felt somewhat comfortable that Chu Wanning would not do anything reckless. He could not foresee that Chu Wanning meant what he said and actually followed through with his words. I believe that if Taxian-jun had known that Chu Wanning was serious, Taxian-jun would not have gone to Taxue Palace. 7. Don't leave me, ok?

Then Chu Wanning died and Mo Ran spent two years alone. In those two years, we know he basically went insane because of grief, talked to a corpse everyday, and deep fried his Empress Consort. But strangely enough, Mo Ran 1.0 did not immediately mention this after being reborn although it was the main reason he committed suicide. And at that point, it had been well over a decade since Shi Mei faked his death in the past timeline, yet Mo Ran 1.0 seemed to still hold a lot of resentment towards Chu Wanning. Also, he said he could accept Shi Mei’s death but would never accept Chu Wanning’s. So honestly, it did not make sense to me the first time I read the novel and I believed Mo Ran resented Chu Wanning for a different reason.

The answer was first hinted at in chapter 9 when Mo Ran scolded the sleeping Chu Wanning. He called Chu Wanning a donkey hoof (lol) and this is actually an idiom to scold someone who is disloyal and unfaithful in love. The puzzles came together when the undead Taxian-jun showed up and immediately went after Chu Wanning (and not Shi Mei). He believed Chu Wanning used his death to hurt him and was angry at Chu Wanning for leaving him. This is the resentment Mo Ran 1.0 carried over to the next timeline. He hated Chu Wanning for abandoning him. This is solidified in chapter 262 by the undead Taxian-jun pleading to Chu Wanning:

“Don’t betray me” “Don’t leave me the second time. The first time you left, I could choose death as a relief. This time, even death is not an option any more… I won’t be able to bear it…”

Disclaimer: Plenty of this is my conclusion drawn from the already ambiguous original text and various translations. Unless Meatbun says it, it’s not canon. I am looking at the novel in three different languages so I might have made some mistakes. Pls forgive. Also, I am not making excuses for Mo Ran 0.5’s actions nor am I justifying the abuse in any way. Chu Wanning never said Mo Ran 0.5 was innocent of these crimes nor will I.
