Fandom Trumps Hate 2024!

Looking for a scene drawn for your story? A piece to help inspire you to write a fic? A new icon? How about covers for your story with full print-ready Graphic Design service? Maybe a pinup, or some trading cards (up to 10)?? Maybe a gift for someone, or just your vision of a character(s) (up to 3 character sheets) for your AU?

Well, that’s just some of the stuff I’m willing to offer for this year’s @fandomtrumpshate​​ Charity Event! FTH is a WONDERFUL community project that supports amazing non-profits through donations for fanworks via  this wonderful annual event!

I am participating for my fifth year by offering 2 fanarts for y’all in either the BBC Sherlock or Good Omens fandoms, starting at 20$ for the non-profit of your choice!

I will draw any ship from any of the above fandoms. All my work is done as a hi-res 3000x3000 print-ready piece in Procreate. Traditional media (markers, India ink, and pencils) is also available if you prefer, done on illustration or marker paper at the paper’s size, with the option of acquiring the original if you choose. I will also do it at a requested size if you have a preferred format for something specific (like a book cover or a comic panel). Feel free to DM me if you have any questions.

2022 Fanfiction Stats

In 2022, I posted 10 stories across 3 fandoms (Grimm, Teen Wolf, and White Collar) for a combined 71,482 words (prior to any further edits).

I participated in Fandom Trumps Hate again, Sterek Artist Seduction Screw, Sterek Reverse Bang, Sterek Big Bang, Sterek Reverse Quickie, and Sterek Secret Santa plus an extra gift for StSS.

I completed Nanowrimo (but not the story itself) as well.

Overall, despite feeling like I didn’t accomplish much, I am pleased with what I did get done.

Looking forward to 2023, I hope to participate in FTH again, a few events, and work on my WIPs.

What am I entering?

One Good Omens fanfic, in the <5K length category.

What will I write?

Fluff, humor, feels, light angst, lighthearted crack, and/or emotional hurt/comfort, with happy or hopeful endings (and likely footnotes).

I especially enjoy exploring aspec themes, soft non-sexual intimacy, supportive relationships, characters navigating communication, coping with insecurities, adjusting to freedom post-canon, and/or through-the-ages scenes; that said, this is in no way an exhaustive list of subjects I'm willing to address. Outsider or insider POV are both good.

I am happy to portray canonverse Aziraphale and Crowley's relationship (established or developing) anywhere on the spectrum of friendship, queerplatonic, or romantic love. Other characters are absolutely possibilities as well, but if you'd like to go that route please just check first to inquire about specifics!

What won’t I write?

Sexual content, dark themes, graphic violence, character death, heavy angst/whump, unhappy endings (depending on the specifics, I'm open to bittersweet endings). Reader insert fics, anything related to Jesus (including Christmas stories), Ineffable Wives, or AUs (minor canon divergence is okay). Through-the-ages settings are more than welcome — however, if the prompt requires *detailed* research and/or historical accuracy is very important to you, I may not be the best choice. I will not ship Aziraphale or Crowley with anyone other than each other; the same applies to any characters with canonical relationships.

What organizations does my auction benefit?

Your choice of any from this list! They’re all doing valuable work, so you can’t go wrong donating to whichever cause sparks your passion.

That said, if you find yourself undecided and would like personal suggestions from me to help narrow the list, I'd point you towards: the Young Center for Immigrant Child Rights, Unsilence, the Queer Detainee Empowerment Project, or the Navajo Water  Project/Dig Deep.

Other notes:

I usually draw from a blend of Book!Omens and Show!Omens in my writing, but if you have a preference for one version of canon, let me know. While most comfortable/experienced writing Aziraphale and Crowley, I am open to other characters/relationships. If you have a prompt in mind that centers other characters, please just reach out before bidding to make sure it's something I feel I can tackle. Similarly, if you have any request you aren't sure fits my criteria, or just want to double-check something, please feel free to ask in advance! I welcome messages.

I’m writing for Fandom Trumps Hate this year!!

New Year’s Resolutions are always dubiously helpful for me, but it is a good time for reflection, so here is an organization of things that are not quite “resolutions,” but possible goals for me nonetheless:

Writing:

Last year I made a post expressing how excited I was that I had started working on fic again in earnest, and modestly expressed the hope that I could match it and write at least 25k of fic in 2021. Turns out that I instead managed to publish 84,582 words of fic, marking my most productive writing year.... ever. 

What I am taking away from that: Fandom challenges & events are great motivators for me. The bulk of that published fic is from Whumptober and my Fandom Trumps Hate piece, and Whumptober in particular was a fantastic test of my skills & gave me some ideas for larger stories

What I would like to do in 2022: Keep that momentum! I love writing and posting fic so much and even though it’s hard it’s been great for me! That said, 2021 was also the year of not working on existing projects and instead posting new ones. Part of that was a new special interest developing in August, but in 2022 I want to return to my LotR longfic and BttF stories I’ve had percolating for ages, alongside new TOH stuff and finishing my FTH story/hopefully taking on a new one

(Additionally: I want to look more at non-fanfic writing projects. Thinking more seriously about original fiction or academic/freelance publishing seems like something worth doing if my writing ability is really returning so strongly, after struggling with it for so long)

Cosplay:

I only finished one cosplay in 2021, but Hunter’s Golden Guard outfit is far and away the most complicated one I’ve ever made and proof that I really have launched into a new sort of... echelon of ability

What I am taking away from that: I can in fact learn new skills without too much angst, and I do have some really solid problem-solving creating abilities (throwing together a mask to go with my Percy cosplay at 3am the night before wearing it again also proved this). It is absolutely worth tackling the projects I have been putting off because I think my abilities aren’t good enough. (Also, I really love the hobby and should invest in it)

What I would like to do in 2022: Finish at least one new cosplay from scratch. I also might like to fix up or remake parts of some others, but I want to tackle something completely new and finish it before the end of the year. Raine, most likely, but I also kind of want to look seriously at starting Fjord or Caduceus finally after worrying that they’d be “too hard” for me for a while now. Also, maybe look into doing a real photoshoot at some point because my costume(s) actually look good!

Music:

I struggled with this one this year and got very imposter syndrome-y about my abilities as a musician. Not so many successes. But I did write multiple original songs, which is a new one for me, and play one concert at the local con this summer, and at the very end of the year, before I injured my hand, was actually trying to regularly practice again!

What I am taking away from that: I know what I am insecure about and should tackle that as well as try to actually keep that practicing momentum. Also, I am a better lyricist/songwriter than I think probably

What I would like to do in 2022: Figure out regular practicing methods that work for me. Write at least a few more songs. There is a very decent chance that 2022 might end up being our album year -- work towards that. I think I need to share my music more to feel better about it, because I am my own worst critic so.... do that. On tumblr or on streams or even at more concerts if they’re possible. Also, if it’s possible, I really want to play in an ensemble by the end of the year. That probably means thinking about an audition, which terrifies me, but... I should try to bite that bullet. Maybe.

Of course there are other things I want to work on, but I think my school/mental health/interpersonal goals are a very different beast, to be handled differently. Mostly I wanted to look at three of the hobbies I invested in most this year in various ways & that made me happy (or sometimes did, at least), beacause oh boy were they one of the things that carried me through this last year, and I’d like for them to keep doing that. Creating is really important to me. I want to keep and get even better at creating.

Be sure to read over our newly-updated FAQ, along with our post about a couple of changes in signups this year.

If you are a first-time FTH creator, you should also take a look at our list of tips for first-time creators (repeat creators might find some helpful info here, too!).

Once you've done all that, and you know what you want to offer, head on over to the signup form! Remember that you need to fill it out once for each auction you want to offer, up to three total.

The signup form will be open until February 13 (you also have until then to edit your signups; after that you'll have to email the mods directly).

Hey friends! I'm super excited to announce I'm a Fandom Ambassador for FTH 2022. That means I get to work with the Naruto fandom to promote FTH and organise the bidding offers and work with fanwork creators to make this as successful as possible.

What is Fandom Trumps Hate?

FTH is an online auction of fanworks, with the proceeds going to small, progressive nonprofits that are working to protect marginalized people. We began FTH in the immediate aftermath of the 2016 Presidential Election, and over the course of the last 5 years have raised over $135,000 for a range of amazing organizations.

What does it mean in practice?

Basically, authors and artists in any fandom supported by the FTH will offer a piece of their work for a certain amount of money. Anyone interested in snatching that piece of fanwork will have to bid on it and, upon winning the bid, they'll pay the agreed upon amount to a selected non-profit. With proof of that donation, they'll then be able to see with the author or artist to receive their prize.

How can you participate?

As the Naruto Fandom Ambassador, I'll be contacting fanwork creators to see if they're interested in offering their work for auction. If you're a writer or artist in the Naruto fandom and want to help, please reach out! You can also offer your services as a beta reader, alpha reader, sensitivity reader, etc. And as a member of this fandom, simply reblogging this post and talking about it to your friends is already doing a great thing for this project.
