The Fallout TV show puts people of color in the most supreme positions of power within the evil corporation in both past and present as though racism didn't exist in pre-war society, as though the United States didn't cannonically have internment camps for Asian Americans before the Great War -.-
Because, you know, the original series is supposed to be about criticizing systemic bigotry and the forces that uphold it? But now we're pretending Pre-War society was completely colorblind and didn't discriminate based on race at all.
Because the white writers think having a Black woman be the one who literally decides to end the world for profit is a good idea. And thinks having another Black woman be the Scary Infiltrator inside the Vault is a good idea. While portraying a white man who wants to keep all outsiders out and execute prisoners as the good guy, while the "bumbling, ridiculous" people of color suggest welcoming the raiders into society and treating them like people with the potential to be good if only their circumstances change to allow them that option.

Your tags are way too good to keep in the tags
#i don’t hate the fallout show but neither do a lot of the ppl lobbing extremely valid critiques?#devaluing all media critique as censorship or petty fandom bullshit or whateverrr makes my blood boil #ya’ll we live in real life. there is a massive body of academic work studying how media absolutely affects societal perceptions#and how many tropes (like extreme violence against black men or black characters made incompetent for comedic effect) have deep roots #that is real. i am so sorry#get over yourself! it’s not the Mature position to not give a shit about anything #no one is harming you in any way when they bring up issues with your favorite Franchise #i’m so sick of seeing critical ppl devalued as childish and petty when ppl throw fits over the tiniest critique of their fav tv show
people are so quick to laugh at other people for taking extremely loaded and upsetting representation in media ~too seriously~, but also conflate the words of some of the most powerless marginalized people with censorship by the FUCKING US GOVERNMENT. it’s so disingenuous it’s so silencing it’s so fucking shitty
it also very much feels like the cultural moment we’re in right now, where bringing up issues rooted in deep irl power structures is automatically written off as oversensitive and reactionary. it’s just media, until it’s an example from real life—then it’s just not that serious, or it’s childish to draw those connections, or it’s censorship to bring it up in the first place. allusions to irl violence are chump change but irl violence is always an isolated incident. and no one cares that this attitude magically seems to exclusively benefit the extremely conservative worldview that holds power
like lmfao no i don’t think it’s your right or anyone’s right to cover your eyes to obviously shitty offensive media writing laden with cultural baggage…. so that you can ~just enjoy it~! does this say nothing about you when you jump to silence the critiques of folks who noticed the harmful shit that went over your head? hot take… media is actually made and consumed by human beings who live in a society

Say what you will about Hunter fans’ white favoritism and double standards, but at least they seem to like the show. Wittebane fans are on a whole different level of white favoritism and fandom misogyny compared to them, because they’re genuinely obsessed with the idea of an all-white cast, centered around two guys, in their racist colony; Eda’s there too, but without any of the depth, she’s only there to be a Girlboss, a Manic Pixie Dream Girl to the cardboard cutout. And it’s to the point where for many of them, it’s all they’ll talk about, instead of the actual source material, its colorful cast and worldbuilding, or onscreen stories.
I know misogyny and racism is in this fandom because people find it easier and more fun to make shit up for a cardboard cutout who makes about as much noise as one over like, Willow Park. It’s fun to speculate on parallels, but when canon contrasts Camila’s heartbreak over creating a hostile environment for her child, versus Philip’s racist hatred and murder of Caleb for having a mixed child? It’s obvious that people would rather rewrite Belos until he’s OOC and the exact opposite of everything he stands for, so they don’t have to talk about Camila Noceda. Because the only way they can truly enjoy this moment is under the veneer of that white guy and him alone.
Like jeez if you want two family members trying to survive after moving to Gravesfield, one repressing themselves and afraid they’re pushing away the other who can’t do that? If you want two siblings with a tragic fallout, where one of them stays with the status quo while missing the other, despite hurting them so badly? Or a child who cares so deeply, but that isn’t enough and that love can be cruel? Just enjoy the Nocedas, the Clawthorne sisters, the Collector.
Cavelyn? That's just Raeda, which even has a tragic element and is actually fleshed out. Raine has an actual personality unlike Blandest White Boy Caleb, and I've already compared Eda to Evelyn. If you want it tragic, there’s Bad End AUs, and I’ve seen Wittebane fans make plenty of Good End AUs so obviously there’s a double standard there. If you want an old hag to thirst over, oh hey look it’s Eda! If you want someone conventionally attractive, what about Darius?
Anything you want those white boys to be, some other characters with way more focus and screen time do it, and much better. The only thing Belos does better than everyone else is represent colonialism, racism, genocide, and evangelical delusions… But y’all don’t want to talk about that now do you? Maybe instead of making OTGW crossovers just talk about OTGW, y’all have plenty of media centered on white guys so why do you need to change TOH to be like that? It’s not suspect that y’all find Wittebanes compelling, it’s suspect that you find them more compelling over characters who actually display these traits as their focus.
Praising Belos’ character for traits that others actually display is just like Philip taking credit for others’ work, it’s funny how Belos fans say you can enjoy him critically but they don’t actually do that. They just go with this very basic Genocide Bad take but still subscribe to the same core sentiment as him; That colonial white guys are just naturally better and more interesting, and they deserve to take the spotlight away from women and/or PoC.
Belos talks hot shit about how Caleb betrayed him and while some don’t believe that’s the case, they still roll with the claim that the heartbroken feeling of being betrayed is primarily why Belos did all this, when really he did it because he was selfish and wanted to be a monster slaying hero, and his games prior to Evelyn’s arrival support this.
He was gonna do it with or without Caleb’s support, there’s just no winning for Caleb because either he would’ve continued being a witch hunter and it’s his fault for setting that example, or he abandoned poor Philip and Philip had no choice but to feel that way… As if racism isn’t the reason why he insists he can’t follow where Caleb is going, ergo Caleb is leaving him. Poor guy is simultaneously overrated and demonized by the same people for being a child who can’t override his racist brother’s free will.
I think it boils down to this: Despite already having Hunter, it’s not enough because Hunter’s relationships are all PoC or at least a white girl. But those Wittebanes, they’re white guys whose most important dynamic is another white guy, each other! And they’re adults so you can sexualize and ship yourself with them. And don’t even get me started on the Grimwalker OCs, the literally copy-pasted white guys!

the reality of Bridgerton fandoms that we don't want to face is that all the women in this show are compelling and interesting and have justifiable reasons for acting the way they do. *all* of them. and this is most evident when discussing penelope and eloise. those that hate penelope for what she did to eloise do so because they only want to empathize with eloise as the purely hurt party. those who hate eloise for becoming friends with cressida after the fact do so because they only want to empathize with penelope and her good intentions in what she did.
so few want to acknowledge that they are both two women with full experiences. that they both have growth to undertake that is highlighted in the fallout of their friendship. that eloise feels betrayed because she trusted penelope to hold her secrets, and then found out that she did not do so. we are angry that eloise does not immediately recognize penelope's intentions in the shadow of that hurt, as if we, too, would not immediately attempt to shield ourselves in light of being wounded by a friend. we do not want to acknowledge that penelope did what she did for partly altruistic means, and partly selfish ones. but also that she is allowed her selfishness as all women are allowed selfishness. that yes, she has a right to be protective of whistledown, this thing she felt was all she had to call hers. and that she has a right to want eloise to support her in that, and can absolutely be wounded that she doesn't
they both have reasons for their behavior. cressida being the only person to show eloise kindness in the fallout of the 'radical article' is a good reason to strike up a friendship, but why is eloise also not allowed some modicum of pettiness and frustration in the aftermath? have we not all felt 'if only i could hurt them back, that would heal me'? have not we all had to grow from such? and similarly, have not we all felt 'i did this for good reasons! how can you be upset at me?' and also had to grow from such a perspective on penelope's part?
this fandom has a misogyny problem. we only want to empathize with a women we relate to, refusing to see that any woman can be one we relate to if we try. in light of that, we make other women our favorite character's enemy: we did this with Kate and Edwina, we did this with Penelope and Marina, we are doing this with Eloise and Penelope. one party is perfect and justified, and the other a villain. we do not want to have empathy for multiple women. and it's not that womanhood is universal so we can find that empathy no matter what, but rather that women are diverse and worthwhile to understand. penelope did hurt eloise, regardless of intentions. her actions were harmful, and the outcome of them painful for her friend. eloise, too, has harmed penelope in not listening to her or wanting to understand her desires. you can root for a woman finding her love story and babies ever after and also for a woman to never have that outcome and to go to university and to respect her reluctance in having children. we can appreciate that their two differing desires result in tension within their friendship. furthermore, there's even more complication with these two because penelope's ultimate love story is found with eloise's brother, a man they have both harmed and who has harmed them, as well, though in different ways. season 3 takes place with an established cast, near all members having been there from the beginning, and with pre-established conflicts and personalities and mistakes. in an ideal world, season 3's theme is not romance, but rather forgiveness, maturity, and growth. all these characters are relatable for different reasons, but do we need relatability to strive for understanding and appreciation of their arcs?
eloise and penelope, both, have not listened to one another, have both been wrapped in their own stories, have both had their own endeavors that they wanted the other to support and been disappointed when that did not happen.
they are messy and complicated and real. and i want to see them reconcile (no matter how bittersweet, because i think we've all had a best friend we lost in some way, a sister we thought would never be gone until she was, someone we hurt and were hurt by, and i can't help but see my own former friendship in them, and i can't help but feel for them both in light of it), but more than that, i want them to be individuals in their own right. because they need this distance, they need their personhood
we can find something in both their 'sides' to have kinship with.

Fandom and misogyny (spoiler Endless Nights)
I never cease to be appealed by the way some people will constantly find a way to dogpile on female characters, most often for no valuable reasons.
Take Killala of the Glow, in Endless Nights for example: this morning I woke up reading a post that said, "Dream and Desire used to be best friends, it's so sad they're strangers now, I spent an entire day cursing that BITCH Killala for cheating on Dream and ruining the good relationship he had with his sibling. She did them both so wrong!"
I read Endless Nights entirely (not just the excerpts that circulate online) so my eyes popped out when I read that, a bit like this:
Tumblr media
Just because it is, you know.... it's a lie! Or at least, it is one, partially: it's true that Killala dumped Dream for another immortal being - Sto-Oa aka the Sun, no less, - who seduced her that day, but who started this, hmmm? No, not Dream's who didn't do anything wrong this time, it's someone else, search better....
It's THEM, Desire, yeah! They're the one who had fun pushing Killala in Sto-Oa's arms, and who made fun of Dream afterwards and didn't understand why he was upset!
Tumblr media
I think maybe people forget how powerful Desire are? They are also the one who, eons later, would canonically cause Nada's infatuation for Dream and probably Dream's for her, because they knew it was forbidden for an Endless to love a mortal and wanted Dream to be caught in the act of wrongdoing...
Also, a bit of context is important here: Killala wasn't Dream's long time queen, she had just met him in her dreams a few days ago. Ok, it doesn't make cheating better, but she said herself to Destiny she wasn't sure she loved Dream yet. And once again, it was Desire who orchestrated the whole thing, as seen in this panel:
Tumblr media
I wonder how come it's rarely pointed that he would repeat exactly the same trick eons later with Nada: he made Nada want Dream after she saw him in a dream, then made his lonely brother want Nada, because she wanted him and he was flattered by this attention.
Coming back to the subject, Endless Nights, it seems to me that Desire's intent was ALWAYS to mess with them -Dream and Killala -, because they wanted to have fun at their brother's depends!
And I genuinely believe they didn't think Dream would react so badly: nothing is serious for Desire, who lives only for the moment. How could they imagine it would be so serious for Dream, and that he would hold a grudge for so long?
Let's see a bit of context:
When we meet Killala, she has just met Dream - she tells Desire Dream visited her in a dream "some days ago"- doesn't know him much and isn't even sure she loves him. It doesn't excuse cheating on him, but I think it's fair to assume than it this story, it's more Dream's ego than his heart which was hurt. All he does after catching her in the act is telling the young Sol she will find her way home, and that her new lover will probably transport her. If he's big mad at Killala, he does a really great job at hiding it. At the end of the story, it is said by Sol's son - who tells the story to his own son - that Killala eventually died, but at no point it's suggested that Dream caused her death.
Tumblr media
Another interesting fact to put the situation back in its context:
Killala has a little chit-chat with Destiny, Dream's big brother and the oldest of the Endless. He asks her if he loves Dream (she doesn't know, thinks she does) and tells her that "a millennia from now", the Endless will be forbidden to love mortals and that her case in particular will be heavily discussed:
Tumblr media
Why though? It's often believed that the drama with Killala caused the "no romance with mortals" rule, but Destiny says it would be decided a millenia after Killala's era so frankly, it's doubtful that her fallout with Dream caused this.
However, it occurred to me that it may be the tension between Dream and Desire, caused by Killala cheating on Dream with Sto-Oa, that was discussed. Think about it: Dream and Desire probably worked together before Desire did that "joke"... After that day, they worked AGAINST each other, or at least Dream looked down on Desire's realms and Desire hated him for it. I don't think that Dream having a failed romance with Killala had any influence on the universe per se, but isn't it very likely that the shift in Desire and Dream's relationship did? 🤔
Another reason could be that Sol, the future sun that would shine on Earth, wanted the not yet created mortal humans to look like Killala, who he found very beautiful.
Tumblr media
Who knows if Dream didn't have a negative reaction to this idea, and caused the higher instances to decide that it was better for him and the other Endless to not have romanced with mortal beings who liked the woman who had previously hurt one of them? All speculation of course, since we don't know much about this "no romance with mortals" rule after all, but it's so fun to speculate!
But I digress (bless Tumblr for the absence of text limit!). The subject of my post was the misoginy which Killala of the Glow, among other female characters in The Sandman, were subjected to by a part of the fandom. Don't get me wrong: what she did to Dream was very bad, cheating is wrong! But let's not accuse her of "separating the siblings" while:
1) she was surely under Desire's influence (see the screenshot below: Desire was watching her and Sto-Oa engage in a discussion, smirking),
2) the only one who can fairly be accused of doing that was one of the siblings themselves, Desire, when they decided to make fun of their sibling by humiliating him.
3) Also I'd argue that if Dream was entitled to be angry at his sibling - it was a very bad joke... - he should have moved on after a while.
Tumblr media
Fun fact, by the way: Dream was disappointed by Killala's change of heart, but he didn't seem angry at her, and he let her go. He even understood immediately what really happened and Desire's influence! That's why he directly went to Desire after he caught her kissing another man. It was Desire's actions that hurt him, way more than Killala's, because he valued his sibling's affection and considered him his favorite sibling.
But sure, let's blame the blue skinned lady for not being able to resist the manipulations of an immortal being, who's got exactly that kind of power. Let's just do that! 😒

hey guys uhhhhhh........do you think Roman Roy was "truly" caring for gerri when he refused to stop sending her dick pics without her consent?? how about when he attempted to FIRE HER TWICE over the fallout from his sexual harassment of her??
do you guys think that Roman Roy is being "non-judgemental" of people's sex lives when he constantly makes inappropriate jokes about his sister having sex to her and her husband's faces??? what about, like, when he made jokes to Marcia and Kerri about their private sex lives?? was he being sooooo non-judgemental then???
was Roman going into bat for people when he backed a neo nazi fascist to be president so he could beat out his sister in being their dad's favourite? How about when he knifed Gerri because his dad wanted him to?? what about when he went to Kendall's party and said all that shit to him AND shiv?? Was he batting for his siblings when he went to rat them out on the Pierce deal behind their back??
I know these articles are meant to be funny or whatever, but it feels like such a gross disservice to misinterpret the very meticulous commentary on institutionalised misogyny that Roman represents, especially relating to his harassment of Gerri and how he treats Shiv. Too many people fall for the funny guy energy and ignore the abuse Roman perpetrates while simultaneously being a victim of abuse.
Roman isn't empathetic. He's just emotionally vulnerable which can look like empathy but it fucking isn't. at the end of the day people who have empathy aren't out here sexually harassing their co-workers and sister. and they sure as hell aren't putting nazis in the whitehouse for validation. like sure there are moments where he cares but so the fuck what??
Like, I am a Roman girlie (not a girl) but fuck, you can just say you think Roman is hot or whatever. You don't have to make a fool of yourself cherry picking the show to oblivion and ignoring the core political context. just either have conviction in your horniness for shitty people or shut the fuck up. So tired of these takes that are so obviously written by white straight people who wouldn't know what empathy was if it slapped them across their exposed frontal lobe. Y'all saying shit like "this character who harasses women and flirts with nazis is soooo sexy and empathetic actually" is why poc are made to feel unsafe in fandom spaces.

I am genuinely baffled by the amount of misogyny present in the comments of the new Fallout series trailer like..... did we play the same games wtf is wrong with yall?!?
Seriously sometimes I forget how terrible the people in this fan base can be, I know every fandom has their bad apples but I swear fallout fans are a different breed. Whether it be idolizing the Legion and supporting characters that are clearly meant to be in the wrong in the context of the universe or straight up hating that a series with a 50's vibe dare have a protagonist that isn't a white straight dude.
I'm not impressed with the teaser because I already have a few misgivings regarding the show but the fact a woman is the lead being the reason it's getting hate is so just strange.

I love the whole Winchester family chain of demon deals and the inherited harm, but something that always kind of blows me away about Mary’s that reminds me so much of Sam’s story in general is…it wasn’t even real? Unless I’m very much mistaken, Azazel didn’t actually need anything from her? Nothing was stopping him from entering that house and bleeding into Sam’s mouth without Mary’s knowledge or permission. He was just coercing her into consenting, to becoming a participant, and it makes my skin crawl.
I seriously cannot get enough of the winchester family dynamics, their doomed bloodline, and how azazel specifically fits in; it's just delicious
but actually for mary's deal he did need permission to enter the house. in 4x03, he mentioned it to both dean and to mary at separate times "the red tape will drive you nuts" etc.
granted he was EXTREMELY and PURPOSELY vague with mary about the nature of the deal, and the real tragedy for me is that he had already violated sam before mary ran in, so the only thing she was killed for was to cover his tracks and keep sam's supposed destiny shrouded in mystery until the right time
I mean people's beef with mary is just baffling to me. her entire family was killed in the span of like 10 minutes (?) and she was offered to keep just one loved one. she had a lot less information than both john and dean did for their respective deals and still the fandom (and dean!!) blame her for the fallout
the misogyny fandom strikes again (obviously not you, anon ❤)

Chapter 4 of Missing Time is up.
I got back into the groove of things with this chapter, I think. There is one important warning for this chapter (which is noted) and I've expanded on it a little below the cut (read the chapter first pls)
First of all to anyone who experiences traumatic flashbacks during intimate moments, incl. sex, I'm sorry.
I've actually never seen this explored much in fic (not in my lil corner of fandoms anyway) and considering I can, unfortunately, get flashbacks just from reading or seeing something (so, even when the thing isn't happening to me), it's something that I've wanted to explore because it's a real thing that happens and can Fuck With Your Head. And writing is cathartic!
So, I'm definitely weaving lots of my own experiences into Eddie, mainly in terms of how she deals with the fallout of having been in a relationship (of sorts) with Ray.
From him lying to Eddie to manipulate her into opening up about something (Lou/Bushy), to trying to gaslight her when she's rightfully pissed off at him, to him once again bringing up a fresh trauma so that he can throw her off and attack her, and like his entire demeanour changing when he gets upset (idc what anyone says, you could see the kind of person he would be in a relationship and it is SCARY), these things would wreck havoc on you after the fact. Like yeah, obviously it sucked in the moment, but considering he wasn't outright violent with her and didn't let his true colours really show through until the end, and considering he literally has the capacity and propensity for murder, it's easy in the moment and immediate aftermath to say, "I'm okay because I didn't suffer as much as ___".
However, when things have settled, these are also things that are going to hit you pretty hard. It could make you seriously doubt your ability to read people, would create and/or exacerbate trust issues, and knowing that you've been intimate with someone who is capable of harming others is, frankly, fucking terrifying.
With that out of the way, I also wanted to touch base a little on why I am playing out a (sexual/potentially romantic) relationship between Cath & Eddie moving faster than a relationship between Dulcie & Eddie.
Eddie has spent the ENTIRE season trying to convince herself and others that she isn't attracted to Dulcie (whether that's true or not). It's easier for Eddie, now the dust has somewhat settled, to have this relatively safe crush on Cath, especially given that Dulcie has not and will not react in jealousy to the little moments between them. As children (and adults tbh) we often develop crushes on people we have zero chance with, these end up being safe ways we can begin to explore our sexuality.
In this fic, although Eddie has "experimented" (which is canon), it was over 20 years ago, and never developed further than kissing before she was thrown into a world of toxic masculinity (and I'm going to assume it came with the usual misogyny, cis- and heteronormativity, racism, etc) and immediately decided that being the woman of colour on the force was preferable to being the queer woman of colour on the force. I do want to clarify that this wasn't a decision she just made one day. As with most things, it's something that developed over time until it became the new normal.
So, Eddie is realising that she may be developing a (sexual) attraction to Cath earlier than she's realising she may be attracted to Dulcie, too (even though there have been little moments between Eddie/Dulcie already). Cath feels like a safer crush because Eddie doesn't think that Cath would ever cheat on Dulcie.
Finally, shoutout to anyone who has to withdraw completely from human interaction every once in a while. This is something I've come to accept about myself, but it was a long time coming. As a child, whenever we had family anything (dinner, reunion, holiday, etc), I was the one who would disappear off to the basement, or outside, or even in a fking washroom, just to get some peace and quiet because socialising drains me so completely.
It's not exactly the same here in Eddie's case- she spends two days avoiding people because she's trying to sort out her thoughts and doesn't fully understand what she's feeling. But the end result is the same: she didn't want to be away from anyone in particular; she just needed some space for herself.
Bonus: the discussion at the end of the chapter isn't the one I was going to write initially, but Eddie is stubborn and it didn't feel natural for her to confess to any kind of feelings at this stage.
PS: in case this is bothering some people, Dulcie was NOT creeping around Eddie's bedroom. She honestly was just going upstairs lmao
PPS: if you don't think Eddie's capable of giggling (as she does several times when she's drunk in this chap), I urge you to watch Madeleine Sami on Taskmaster NZ.

Always gatekeep your hobbies. This is from a fallout wiki, for god's sake. Remember when fans just got together and had fun? "contains slurs, hate speech, dog whistles" For one thing, whether or not queer is a slur is hotly debated. I was banned on twitter for a while for using the word "dyke" in the phrase "dykes on bikes". Which is a lesbian bikers club that has been around for fifty years. Hate Speech? A totally emotive term. Talking against Leftism is hatespeech, according to Leftists. " dog whistles"? Ditto. A leftist can proclaim the ok symbol is a dog whistle hatespeech nazi.
Tumblr media
Except if it is inconvenient, of course. "ethnocultural discrimination" Hmm. Nazism was an ethnoculture. As was the Aztec Empire. Seems to me that - yet again - Leftists have no problem with demanding the Earth be purged of whites, yet if you say the mass immigration of rape gangs is a bad thing, they will crush you like a grape. Leftists hate Freedom, and love hypocrisy. They have no morality, no integrity. They can see we do, and will always try to use that against us. "gender essentialism" A man is a man. OMG, that's hatespeech! BANNED!!! "misogyny" Note that they have no problem with misandry. And misogyny was rewritten during Julia Gillard's rein here. It used to mean the hatred of females. It then became "opposition to Feminism". "polyphobia" I don't think poly relationships are stable, and I have never seen anyone present data suggesting that humans do them as well as they do either harems or monogamy, which are the two types of relationships we see the majority of humans practice globally. That would get me banned. It's a statement of fact, but Leftism is at war with reality. "religious or areligious intolerance" Oh right, the Leftists are soooo tolerant of Christians. And what about those religions that practice human sacrifice or the rape of children? Maybe we shouldn't "tolerate" rape? Just an idea? But it is logically impossible to obey the rule there. Atheist: There are no gods. Hindu: There are many gods. Muslim: Kill! Kill! Kill! Kill! (*froths and then literally explodes*) So how do they tolerate each other? Maybe don't put it in the rules, and just have something like "be civil". But then Leftists wouldn't be able to be arseholes all day long. It would kill them.
