This was all I could think about when reading ‘Revil’

Levia Essay

(This essay is made because of @dragongodryss 's request and some knowledge was provided by @lilacharbour )

It’s commonly believed by the older generations of Fairy Tail experts that Levia Is a mere brute, who receives absolutely no character development, some even believe that he’s one of the less intelligent characters of Fairy Tail. This is wrong. Levia is an incredibly deep character with a backstory filled with sadness that can be rivalled by no other, a true misunderstood victim if I do say so myself.

Before I can explain my beliefs, I believe some context is required for who exactly Levia is, even some of my own mentors in Fairy Tail knowledge had to use meaningless sources like google or the fairy tail wiki, but of course I knew right off the bat who Levia was, as I have pondered for many hours about the sheer depth of his character. Starting with his name, Levia, likely named after the Leviathan of the Hebrew Bible. The Leviathan is often treated as the embodiment of the sin of envy, which will be important to the analysis later. In Fairy Tail, Levia is the loyal pet of Rogue from the evil timeline (who will be named Revil from now on (a mix between the word rogue and evil)), whos mission was to keep Rogue in place long enough for Revil to steal present Sting and bring him Back to the Future (By Robert Zemekis).

Now that the context has been explained, I shall now explain why most Fairy Tail fans are wrong about him. During his backstory, it was explained that Revil took Levia in when he was at his lowest point, addicted to dragonberries, without a cave over his head, and desperately needing a pile of treasure for a bed (as dragons do in fairy tail). That was when Revil invited him to join the Sabertooth guild, but the sabretooth guild didn’t like that. They didn’t allow dragons into the guild for various reasons, but the true reason is because Sting didn’t want to share rogues heart with yet another creature, this is proven in the following dialogue quoted directly from the manga, starting with revil: “Tell me, why can’t we let Levia join the sabretooth guild? Have you not seen his teeth?” Sting responded saying, “Rogue we have 5 rules in the sabretooth guild”. Sting proceeded to point at the plaque which had all the rules listed (those are unimportant for the time being). But the 5th one had been altered, from “No pet dragonets” to “No dragon in guild”, though it was clear that letters had been crudely crossed out with a very sharp knife (though the person evidently didn’t have a steady hand as it was messy), and the extra letters added to the end were clearly in a different quality to the rest of the text on the plaque. A big part of stings character is also his very poor written grammar. This clearly shows that Sting had an ulterior motive, but this is a Levia essay not a stingue essay, so I will not elaborate further. Anyway, this even led to what many fans considered impossible, the breakup of Sting and Rogue (this was before the dark destinies saga was retconned into being an “evil timeline”.

Anyway, this is what jumpstarted Rogues evil journey, he slowly became evil and manipulative, but Levia remained loyal. Rogue helped him get stronger, and Levia protected rogue any time Sting tried to bring harm to them, showing a clear sense of comradery between Revil and Levia. That’s what I would say if I was WRONG. Levia was clearly being manipulated by Revil into remaining loyal. The spinoff about the dark Destinies saga also shows one of these moments, starting with revil: “Levia, my loyal minion, I have a plan. If I can go back in time to when Sting and I were still best boyfriends forever, I can persuade past sting to come with me to the future.” Levia responded saying “But master? How will we do this without harming any of the past citizens?”. The following line sent a tear down my cheek, “a capture mission doesn't mean you can't break a few bones”. This broke Levias heart. He was always a pacifist, this was his core value, to avoid conflict at all cost. But it was his masters orders, so he was forced to follow along with it.

Of course, the first part of this mission was a success, Revil and Levia went back in time. The first part of the plan shows Revils lack of care for Levia, he had Levia keep Rogue in one place, by any means necessary. And, showing a clear loyalty, he followed his masters orders. While Levia followed the orders, he felt morally conflicted, so he decided to change his heart, and brought rogue back to sting, showing a clear sense of justice. Revil loved past sting too much, so if present Rogue lost sting, it would sting. So the final battle began. Levia was forced to watch as revil fought rogue and sting, until he finally decided to stand up for himself. He was about to step forward to stop Revil, when he was cruelly stopped by present Sting. A clear misunderstanding in intentions. This was the tragic end for Levia, he didn’t mean any harm with his actions, he was merely a product of his manipulation. It was such a shame to see such a deep character be killed off so early into his character arc.

The writer of the Fairy tail manga was incredibly brave with his namesake of Levia, treating it as though he was the embodiment of jealousy, when the true embodiment of jealousy was his master, Revil. I hope this has convinced you of the truth about Levia

I just remembered that Levia refers to Rogue as a prisoner during the Eclipse arc and that is just so funny to me.

Like, all Levia did was show up. He sure was there. But Rogue could have left. Like, anytime he wanted. The only reason he didn't was because he wanted to protect his guild and the city. But if he wanted to, he could have just left.

And what would Levia do about it? What could he do about it? Jack shit! Fucking moron, lol. He was trying to capture Rogue and was acting like he already succeeded. Unfettered hubris. I love him. Bloody dumbass.

Fully believe that if Levia hadn't told Rogue about Future Rogue, Rogue would have been judging the shit out of this hecking loser.

Curse being so short!

The books tucked under her arm swung precariously as Levy went up on tip-toe, balancing so she could stretch up and reach the top shelf.

Expectation: fumbling, maybe falling a bit, touching some smooth and cool book spines Reality: brushing over someone’s warm and soft hands, screaming, completely losing her balance and doing a faceplant in a generously padded chest

Crimson filled her face and she mumbled into cloth, “Mrrrrree ouw ohgaaee?”

“Levy-san?”

Levy pushed herself up, eyes bright with surprise, “Juvia! I’m so sorry!”

Juvia gave her one of those vaguely pleasant looks, like she did to most people she didn’t know well in the guild. Levy knew that because, well, she’d been watching her. At first, it’d been because she was Gajeel’s friend, and well, anyone who knew Gajeel would question what kind of person would be his friend. But before long, she was watching for another reason, but she’d been too shy to do anything.

That’s me, she groaned to herself, the bookworm so lost in the clouds she can’t even talk to a girl.

“Were you reaching for a book?”

Both of them glanced around, very aware which part of the bookstore they were in. For Levy, it was no surprise; everyone knew she read everything. For Juvia, she looked uncomfortable and embarrassed to be smack in the middle of the erotica section.

“Juvia is in the wrong section,” she replied staunchly, licking her lips a little. Levy gave a tiny, evil grin then asked innocently, “What section were you looking for? I know this bookstore like the back of my hand.”

��...Fiction… Or… non-fiction?” Juvia fumbled, muttering adorably to herself, not sure which was the better lie. “Poetry.”

“What kind?”

Juvia made a pained face, still trying to keep up the farce, “The good kind.”

Levy giggled and put her hand out in invitation. The other woman hesitated for a long moment before giving a gentle smile and taking her hand delicately. And that, right there, was her mistake. Allowing Levy to drag you around the bookstore wasn’t the wisest course of action.

“Let me show you my favorites!”

So Levy did. And Juvia seemed mesmerized, soaking up the prose, tracing her fingers along the words reverently, her cherry lips whispering the words of Sappho, Lorde and more.

“So, what do you think?”

Levy bit her lip nervously, wondering if Juvia picked up on the hints. She was… kind of clueless… and for Levy to say that, it meant she was really clueless sometimes. It was ridiculously adorable too.

Bright blue eyes shone as Juvia turned towards Levy and grabbed her hands, “Juvia is in love.”

“What!”

Levy’s heart stopped dead in her chest and the world spun. Before she could stutter out how she was surprised and wasn’t ready and wasn’t declarations of love a bit much, Juvia clarified passionately.

“With the poems! Juvia is in love, show Juvia more!”

Levy nearly smacked herself in the forehead. 

Well, Gajeel did say Juvia was denser than his steel. But a love of lesbian poetry was definitely a good start, and Levy patted herself on the back for created something she could talk to the girl about.

It’s a good start, she informed herself, puffing up with pride as she pointed out another poetry book. And I’ve had a longer date with Juvia than anyone else in the guild, so go me!

And then she pulled out another book, fully intending to make it longer.

CONS

I think everyone and their mother says this about this game but the motion controls are indeed a bit wonky. it is unnecessarily difficult to do a forward thrust, and this is especially frustrating during boss battles that. y'know. require the forward thrust and only that. Moldarach I'm looking the fuck at you

Fi is... pretty annoying. Like, if I'm low on health, the hearts in the upper left corner will flash and make a beeping noise. If my controller is low on battery, a little red battery symbol will show up on the screen and not go away until I change them. I do not need Fi to point these out to me. I also feel like 90% of her dialogue is just her restating the incredibly obvious. After playing two Zelda games with great companion characters (Ciela in Phantom Hourglass, and Zelda herself in Spirit Tracks) she was kind of a big disappointment.

On a somewhat related note, you really don't need to tell me what treasure I found or what insect I just caught because I started a new session. I remember that this butterfly I just caught is a Blessed Butterfly. I know. You keep a record of how long this save file has been going but you feel the need to remind me. Again. Please stop

The Hylian Shield is like. stupid hard to get. you have to fight eight bosses in a row without any extra items like potions, medals, extra ammo pouches. I guess it's like... because it was the 25th Anniversary Game I guess they wanted to put in something extra hard for the super fans but it just seems, again, unncessarily difficult. but IDK that's probably more a nitpick/personal preference sort of thing

PROS

godDAMN there's some good writing in this game. like, one of my least favourite part of this game was, as above, Fi. but shit man, the scene where she says goodbye to Link managed to get me going "aww!" out loud. And admittedly, some of her commentary when you ask her to give info about certain characters and things made her a touch more endearing, but that's totally missable if you don't ask for that thing a lot like I do.

related to the above, I think it's the first game to make me cry twice - once when Zelda goes into her deep sleep in the past, and once at the very end when Impa passes away. god. GOD. I went "NO" out loud at that goddddd I was so prepared for an ending that implies that Impa gets to live out the last of her days happily with the other three heroes, but then that happened and kicked me in the heart

the entire pros list could just be me talking about the characters honestly sljfsle. they could've definitely made Groose into a Gaston/Biff/insert-other-muscly-guy-who's-a-jerk-here, but he genuinely cares about Zelda enough that he is willing to dive beneath the clouds to a world that, as far as he knows, is just fairy tales, to find her. he tries to be the big hero, but sees what Link has been dealing with and accepts pretty quickly that he's out of his league. but then he still finds a way to help out! that's what I call the good shit right there.

also, it's a Nintendo game so it goes without saying the music is top notch, but like, the art style is so good too?? it's the perfect blend of the toon Link games bright colours and the more realistic games... err. realism. I loved Link's facial expressions and the impressionistic settings and stuff. god it's just gorgeous and i loooove it

OTHER SHIT

the bosses are a bit of a mixed bag. fighting the Imprisoned 3 times is... well, repitive. it's the same thing in the same area, but it's like "oh but this time he has a tail!!" but at the same time there were some I really enjoyed, like Koloktos and the final battle with Ghirahim and Demise.

I think the only real nitpick I have storywise is that fairly late in the game we're introduced to this character named Levias - he's a big ol' flying whale, and apparently the 'Warden of the Skies' and he appears to be common knowledge to at least the adults of Skyloft, but he never gets mentioned earlier in the game. no one drops any sort of hint about him, even though he apparently regularly communicates with humans. just a little thing but eh, it bothered me a bit

ANYWAY I will probably share more little thoughts maybe over the next few days as I work on a little gifset for it. It took me like, literally 3 quarters of the year but I'm finally caught up on games and I can get started on my Switch HELLLLLL YEAAAAAHHHH

gajevia headcanons 1/?

falling in love was so messy for all of them

it took levy a lot to figure out she was falling. and then it eventually happened

levy, being… well, levy, started acting a bit weird around both of them, being shyer and more skittish than usual

neither of them figured out why tho

gajeel thought she was angry at him and juvia was worried she might have upset her

they asked her - separately - if there was something wrong. she managed to sell it to gajeel, but not to juvia, who has better social skills and understood the problem

juvia was very confused by what was happening

she always knew there was some sort of more than friendship between her and gajeel but she didn’t figure that deep

and then there’s levy who’s so sweet and cute and wow she really wanted to kiss her

so she turned to the only people she might ask for help, gray and cana

gray had no idea how to help but cana offered some sort of advice (after laughing her ass off)

they both convinced her there was nothing wrong in wanting to be with both of them, though

she managed to clean the mess with levy when she began acting weird

and then they began dating, about a month after the war

gajeel’s head was a huge fucking mess

he felt disgusted with himself for having feelings for them

they had both seen him in his worse (in phantom lord) and he was scared neither of them would want him

in the same time he was painfully jealous over them both and couldn’t stand the thought of seeing them with someone else without lashing out

but somehow he didn’t feel jealous over the two of them together

he was very happy about them but also felt sad because he wasn’t a part of their happiness

he began to mope more and tried to visit the guild less

levy and juvia, who were still very much in love with him and very worried for him, turned to mira for help

mira, who has been gajeel’s moral support (along lily, natsu and wendy) told them what the problem was

they went to his home to see him and talk with him

he had locked himself in his bedroom but lily let them inside with the spare key

they kissed each of his cheeks, then took turns explaining their feelings and their worries about him

eventually they were all crying and gajeel was very happy because those two sunshines actually love him and he is so lucky

they ended staying the night and them all slept and cuddled in his hugeass bed

levy and juvia then surprised him with breakfast in the bed and gajeel almost cried again

he loves them so much and he’s so soft for them

Okay so something just occurred to me as I’m rewatching Fairy Tail with Ash. Future Rogue knows the names of the 7 dragons that pass through the gate. But he intended to summon 10,000 dragons, not just 7, like... I have headcanoned that he spent time in the past to learn dragon manipulation magic, but like... I guess it just finally hit me how much time he really spent in the past to know their names. Like did he know all 10,000 dragon’s names that he was going to bring into the present/future??? Cause he didn’t spend any time prior speaking to the dragons after they passed through the Eclipse Gate, he just strode in and was like “Zirconis, you deal with these bitches that closed the gate and Mother Glare and I will chill up in the air while Scissor Runner captures my past self and Atlas Flame, Levia and the others kill everyone else.”

I have so many Future Rogue head canons because he is my precious shadow child, but just rewatching just helps me make more head canons/solidifies some of my head canons

I feel as though I couldn't write a full character analysis without breaking tumblr and completely reinventing the fairy tail community

Levia Essay

(This essay is made because of @dragongodryss 's request and some knowledge was provided by @lilacharbour )

It’s commonly believed by the older generations of Fairy Tail experts that Levia Is a mere brute, who receives absolutely no character development, some even believe that he’s one of the less intelligent characters of Fairy Tail. This is wrong. Levia is an incredibly deep character with a backstory filled with sadness that can be rivalled by no other, a true misunderstood victim if I do say so myself.

Before I can explain my beliefs, I believe some context is required for who exactly Levia is, even some of my own mentors in Fairy Tail knowledge had to use meaningless sources like google or the fairy tail wiki, but of course I knew right off the bat who Levia was, as I have pondered for many hours about the sheer depth of his character. Starting with his name, Levia, likely named after the Leviathan of the Hebrew Bible. The Leviathan is often treated as the embodiment of the sin of envy, which will be important to the analysis later. In Fairy Tail, Levia is the loyal pet of Rogue from the evil timeline (who will be named Revil from now on (a mix between the word rogue and evil)), whos mission was to keep Rogue in place long enough for Revil to steal present Sting and bring him Back to the Future (By Robert Zemekis).

Now that the context has been explained, I shall now explain why most Fairy Tail fans are wrong about him. During his backstory, it was explained that Revil took Levia in when he was at his lowest point, addicted to dragonberries, without a cave over his head, and desperately needing a pile of treasure for a bed (as dragons do in fairy tail). That was when Revil invited him to join the Sabertooth guild, but the sabretooth guild didn’t like that. They didn’t allow dragons into the guild for various reasons, but the true reason is because Sting didn’t want to share rogues heart with yet another creature, this is proven in the following dialogue quoted directly from the manga, starting with revil: “Tell me, why can’t we let Levia join the sabretooth guild? Have you not seen his teeth?” Sting responded saying, “Rogue we have 5 rules in the sabretooth guild”. Sting proceeded to point at the plaque which had all the rules listed (those are unimportant for the time being). But the 5th one had been altered, from “No pet dragonets” to “No dragon in guild”, though it was clear that letters had been crudely crossed out with a very sharp knife (though the person evidently didn’t have a steady hand as it was messy), and the extra letters added to the end were clearly in a different quality to the rest of the text on the plaque. A big part of stings character is also his very poor written grammar. This clearly shows that Sting had an ulterior motive, but this is a Levia essay not a stingue essay, so I will not elaborate further. Anyway, this even led to what many fans considered impossible, the breakup of Sting and Rogue (this was before the dark destinies saga was retconned into being an “evil timeline”.

Anyway, this is what jumpstarted Rogues evil journey, he slowly became evil and manipulative, but Levia remained loyal. Rogue helped him get stronger, and Levia protected rogue any time Sting tried to bring harm to them, showing a clear sense of comradery between Revil and Levia. That’s what I would say if I was WRONG. Levia was clearly being manipulated by Revil into remaining loyal. The spinoff about the dark Destinies saga also shows one of these moments, starting with revil: “Levia, my loyal minion, I have a plan. If I can go back in time to when Sting and I were still best boyfriends forever, I can persuade past sting to come with me to the future.” Levia responded saying “But master? How will we do this without harming any of the past citizens?”. The following line sent a tear down my cheek, “a capture mission doesn't mean you can't break a few bones”. This broke Levias heart. He was always a pacifist, this was his core value, to avoid conflict at all cost. But it was his masters orders, so he was forced to follow along with it.

Of course, the first part of this mission was a success, Revil and Levia went back in time. The first part of the plan shows Revils lack of care for Levia, he had Levia keep Rogue in one place, by any means necessary. And, showing a clear loyalty, he followed his masters orders. While Levia followed the orders, he felt morally conflicted, so he decided to change his heart, and brought rogue back to sting, showing a clear sense of justice. Revil loved past sting too much, so if present Rogue lost sting, it would sting. So the final battle began. Levia was forced to watch as revil fought rogue and sting, until he finally decided to stand up for himself. He was about to step forward to stop Revil, when he was cruelly stopped by present Sting. A clear misunderstanding in intentions. This was the tragic end for Levia, he didn’t mean any harm with his actions, he was merely a product of his manipulation. It was such a shame to see such a deep character be killed off so early into his character arc.

The writer of the Fairy tail manga was incredibly brave with his namesake of Levia, treating it as though he was the embodiment of jealousy, when the true embodiment of jealousy was his master, Revil. I hope this has convinced you of the truth about Levia
