آج کل فیس بک 50 سال سے کم عمر اور سیاسی طور پر بائیں بازو یا انقلابی خیالات کے مالک کسی بھی شخص کے لیے ناقابل استعمال ہے۔ شاذ و نادر مواقع پر جب میں لاگ اِن کرتا ہوں تو مجھے فوری طور پر قابل اعتراض میمز، ویب سائٹس سے جعلی خبروں اور مصنوعات اور خدمات کے اشتہارات دیکھنے پڑتے ہیں جو حقیقی ہونے کا دکھاوا تک نہیں کرتے۔ ایسا لگتا ہے کہ فیس بک کا واحد مقصد یہ رہ گیا ہے کہ وہ مجھ سے باقی رہ جانے والا وہ احترام چھین لے جو میرے اندر ان بڑوں کے لیے ہے، جنہوں نے میری پرورش کی۔ یہ لوگ کرہ ارض کے سب سے زیادہ سادہ اور کم پڑھے لوگوں میں شامل لوگوں کے طور پر سامنے آئے ہیں۔ فیس بک پر جانا ایسا ہی ہے جیسے کسی ڈراؤنے تھیم پارک میں جایا جائے۔ اس کے رنگ پھیکے پڑ چکے ہیں۔ ہر بات عجیب سی ہو چکی ہے اور ایسا محسوس ہوتا ہے کہ اگر میں زیادہ دیر تک پلیٹ فارم پر موجود رہا تو مجھے قتل کیا جا سکتا ہے۔ اس کا معیار پہلے کے مقابلے میں گر چکا ہے لیکن اپنے عروج پر بھی یہ زیادہ متاثر کن نہیں تھا۔ ہاں ایک بات ہے کہ فیس بک اب بھی اتنی برا نہیں جتنا ایکس یا سابقہ ٹوئٹر ہے۔

I was a kid with a Hunger Games hyperfixation and, from time to time, I'll get reminded of the books. With Trump's inauguration and the TikTok ban and unban, I can't stop thinking about a political tactic called panem et circenses, or bread and circuses.

In Mockingjay, Collins writes "'It’s a saying from thousands of years ago, written in a language called Latin about a place called Rome,' he explains. 'Panem et Circenses translates into "Bread and Circuses." The writer was saying that in return for full bellies and entertainment, his people had given up their political responsibilities and therefore their power.'"

In Collins' world, the Hunger Games was the entertainment. In ours, it's social media. Twitter, Meta, TikTok, are all controlled by political powers. Musk, Zuckerberg. TikTok is owned by Yiming and Rubo, but with the ban and unban, the content it shows in America is filtered to fit Trump's political agenda.

It's entertainment at the cost of information.

Eddie posts a Tiktok at 6:21am that’s just him in bed, lamenting that, “sorry to announce this like this but my husband is leaving me. After making a vow to stay together forever, he is breaking that vow and abandoning me. My heart breaks. I will not survive.”

Steve comes into frame and kisses him on the cheek before telling the camera, “I’m going to work.”
