iirc you like george and mick right? I’d maybe then recommend Alex Palau. he’s a quiet but funky guy who just happens to be one of the best drivers in the world (and last years champion). you may also like Callum Ilott (mick’s former prema teammate) who’s back in indycar after a season away

here’s some other drivers you may hear about:

Pato O’Ward: tumblr’s favorite babygirl. ridiculously charismatic. you can’t help but love him even if you don’t root for him

Alex Rossi: cohosts a podcast with james hinchcliffe. Indy500 winner with a delightfully dry/sarcastic sense of humor (fyi he’s a former f1 driver with an open dislike for George and estaban- but is still fair when judging their racing)

Josef Newgarden: looks like captain america but has an irrepressible inner theater kid. If you like a driver you can study like a bug, he’s on quite a character arc

Scott McLaughlin: a kiwi and former supercar driver who wears his heart on his sleeve. may be less chronically online than he usually is bc he’s a new dad!

Scott Dixon: THEE goat! Six time champion who can still pull off miraculous wins. one of indycars many top tier dilfs

WILL POWER: his competitors have called him the most interesting man alive. big chaotic neutral energy. from toowoomba. loves his wife a lot. known for the ‘double bird.’ flava flav is his hype man.

David Malukis: meme lord

Colton Herta: motorsport’s indie dirtbag (affectionate)(aka he used to be in a punk band). he was supposed to drive for alpha tauri a few years ago but there was ofc some bullshit from f1

Kyle Kirkwood: Florida man who drives the pink car. once posted about a campaign to save a local state park from being turned to a golf course. Colton’s dad is his race engineer

I’m gonna put it under the cut just as to not clog my blog LOL

I actually used to be a huge Daniel fan! Like he was my favorite driver, and I even have a Danny Ric t shirt but honestly his comment about the Horner accusations being just “noise and distraction” really rubbed me the wrong way? Especially as a woman who’s been sexually harassed before.

And then after that I kind of went on a deep dive because I was like?? Surely The most cheerful and sunshiney man™️ in f1 would never say anything like that? And then I just found lots of interviews and instances where he made/laughed at some gross misogynistic jokes and I just! Can’t do it anymore lol. Just don’t feel comfortable supporting someone with those beliefs, or even someone who thinks stuff like that is funny.

I also just think that he’s become a mid driver and is clogging the junior Red Bull program! It’s just killing me to watch the junior seat be taken by someone who already went through the program 😭

All this to say, I get it if you like him! Bc I was a fan of his at one point lol. BUT if you’re going to slide into my inbox to argue with me about disliking him (when it’s personal opinion and I have perfectly good reason to) id prefer if you just wouldn’t! I’m never gonna draw him, but I’m not gonna constantly bash him on here. I just refuse to be a fan of someone who wouldn’t even respect me as a person lol call me crazy I guess 🤪😁🤣

Now that I have over 200 followers (wait, what?! and also: welcome, everybody!), I think I should share 10 things to know about my blog.

Charles Leclerc is king. While I will post other stuff (see 3), 90% will be Charles. You don't like Charles? This is not the place for you.

I'm not a hater. I reserve hate for people who commit animal cruelty, hate crimes, genocide, etc. I like most of the F1 drivers most of the time. Doesn't mean I won't post memes about them, poke fun at them, or even criticize them (yes, even Charles). I've posted my tier list above, in case you're wondering where I stand.

I will post about other things that make me happy. Maybe other drivers, cats, Star Wars, quotes, beautiful nature, architecture, a funny comic, whatever. I only have one blog and I have my occasional "Liked by petit-papillion" days...

I don't ship drivers. While I am not opposed to ships for fictional characters (anyone have a ship name for Elizabeth Bennett and Mr. Darcy?), I don't ship real people. I do love the numerous friendships between drivers, and will happily post about my favorite ones.

I don't like posts that overtly sexualize drivers without their consent. Ice bath posted by Scuderia Ferrari? Yes. Butt shot of Charles on his onboard camera? No.

I love data!!! I know not everyone shares this passion, so I try not to turn this into a data-infested snoozefest. But I love F1 stats. Special thank you to blogs like @statsstatsstats, @champagnepodiums, and anyone else gathering data to share with us.

I also love to sleuth! Love the challenge of locating something hard to find online, whether it's an article, a specific photo, location of a video, when that photo was taken, etc. Special shout-out to @chibrary for doing the Racing Lords' work in archiving all that Leclerc history and lore.

I don't have any social media accounts. No Twitter, Instagram, TikTok, Reddit, Facebook. I only joined Tumblr when I created this blog in February 2023. I am the ultimate lurker (won't disclose how many years I was lurking before finally joining Tumblr, but one of my mutuals and I go waaaay back - even though she doesn't know this). It is definitely a challenge to access content without accounts, especially now that Twitter has recently blocked searches, boohoo.

I'm very private. I may talk about my 2 cats Orion and Magpie, but those are not their real names. I don't like to reveal too much personal information, because damn, people online can be mean.

I love to create beautiful (or informative) posts. Which is why I am here. An outlet for my creativity. I am constantly inspired by the amazing talent on here. Before I started this blog, I'd never screen-recorded or edited a video, never edited a photo on my phone, never made a meme. I'm still learning though. I want to learn how to create gifs. And make beautiful edits. But I do have a very busy life, and I don't always have time.

This also leads me to remind everyone to please bear with me if I don't answer your ask right away. I see you and read your ask or reply, but whenever possible, I want to give thoughtful responses that take time. My inbox and DMs are always open though.

So, I need some help. 

About ten hours ago (I’m a little loopy so apologies if this makes little to no sense) I had to go to a dental emergency place due to a toothache that has gotten worse over the past few days. 

Luckily they were able to fix it and I’m still in pain but that’s mainly from all the shit they did with my mouth/tooth. However because I live in America, of course my insurance won’t cover it. 

The bill was over $700, I managed to pay a chunk of it with my savings (which went bye bye) but I still owe $425 dollars.

So, this is me asking for help. Any little bit truly helps as I am still unable to work due to other health issues. 

I have commission's on Ko-fi open, which are 3 dollars for 3,000 word fic. I have a patreon with two different tiers ($1 and $3 dollars respectively). And I also just have a general goal on Ko-fi for help. 

I will also in the next few days be hopping back into trying to do some proofreading for people (fingers crossed that it works this time) as soon as I feel better. 

I really hate that I have to make this post (america’s healthcare system can suck a dick) but I am desperate. Thank you for reading this, just reading it is helping me out, and hopefully my next post will be a fic.

I had a question about like pace, more specifically the markers in their first two years that a driver is going to be really good or is for sure going to improve a lot more

ok so basically I was talking to someone and we both agreed that piastri was a bit overrated, but then we were like why do we feel like that

my thought was mostly that well. I expected a lot more from him this year. with the machinery he had and the way people were talking him up I thought he'd be closer to his teammate than he was. obv we can attribute it to experience or whatnot but I feel like even in your second year that pace that everyone was shoving down my throat last year should have made more of an impact

he had his moments of brilliance like that monza overtake on norris (contentious in the mclaren fandom if my understanding is correct) and he was pretty solid in monaco quali and baku and I think could have snatched pole of those weren't charles circuits but I feel like his quali performance really didn't impress me all that much and considering the machinery he was way too anonymous in the third part of the season

he's definitely good like he's cool under pressure and maybe he'll have a sainz kind of run how he actually improved a lot over his ferrari stint for 22 to 24 but right now I don't feel like he can be put in the top two tiers of this gen of drivers

also another question, I've seen people say that spending three years in the williams made a huge positive impact and influence on russells driving but I don't feel like that's true? as in i don't think driving a midfield/backmarker for so long is better than being in a fast car and learning while trying to extract the most out of that?? like it's obviously not his fault he was stuck in the williams but I don't think that it was the advantage some people are saying it is?

if you have any thoughts pls share id love to have more information or other perspectives your input would be appreciated

i think you partially answered your own question in that drivers rarely make massive jumps in pace beyond their first couple of years. as i've said before, carlos probably has had the most improvement out of any top-level driver in the past decade, but this huge improvement still isn't enough to consistently match the best. i find it really difficult to believe oscar will be able to do something unprecedented that carlos couldn't, but i guess it's not impossible. i'm fine if i have to eat my words next season, but i don't think i will

oscar needs to have that level of pace be competitive though, because he has other strengths. granted, pace is the most important skill, but there will inevitably be situations like baku sometimes where being aggressive can put him in a position to win

he's a little unlucky in that his timing of joining f1 is in between what people view as generations; he's too old to be considered a child prodigy like kimi, but too young to be the beloved first driver like most of the people he's competing against. he's just like me actually...... (1998 baby not feeling connected to either millennials or zoomers)

if we're talking about pace i don't think there's much difference between max, charles, lando, and george. they're all rapid and in a world where they had cars all perfectly suited to them i'm not sure who would consistently be above the others, if any. however i obviously believe max and charles have more strengths and well-rounded skillsets compared to the other two, so in general i would agree with your list

except carlos is a much better driver than oscar is (ofc some of this is probably experience but i don't think oscar should be rated higher on the basis of his "potential")

almost all evidence we have says otherwise. lando himself said multiple times this year that being at the front of the grid is very different from the midfield, and using his words we can infer that this means experience in the midfield cannot compensate for experience at the front. max, charles, lewis, and other various drivers who had access to winning cars in their first <2 years have undoubtedly had smoother development than people like lando or george who spent multiple years bumming around in mediocre-to-trash cars

this is why i think it's a bit unfair to compare oscar's second season to lando's, because the mcl35 was not even 5% as consistent as the mcl38. charles is a much more relevant benchmark as they both had very good cars in their second years (that comparison will end next season though, because there is no way the mcl39 or whatever it's called will be as dogshit as the sf1000 was)

but if carlos could be a wdc in the right car (which i think he could be) then oscar probably can be too. it's just not likely as it stands
