''Starfix'', #3, April 1984 Source The malevolent Molasar from the 1983 film, 'The Keep', directed by Michael Mann. Molasar was designed by the French comic book artist Enki Bilal. The film's music was composed by Tangerine Dream who had worked previously with Mann on his (much better) film 'Thief' from 1981. The movie was based on the book by F. Paul Wilson who did not like the movie adaptation (to be fair, from what I've read over the years, the production of the film was a shitshow for everyone involved and the movie was cut down from 210 minutes to 96 minutes before being publicly released which partially explains why so many critics found the film "incomprehensible"). The movie was a commercial bomb but eventually became a cult classic. It was definitely a movie I saw repeatedly on VHS as a wee lad.

Drew a lot of genderbends and actually named them. I'm naming them for my own convenience, and bc it's fun to look at baby name sites :'D
Elizabeth "Birdie" Wayne was a hard pick bc Brucine or Bryce are right there, but the nickname "Birdie" to correspond to "Brucie" is SO cute I couldn't pass it up.
For my Fem!Jason, she's p masc-leaning, so I wanted a fancy sounding name that she just refuses to use.
"Dixie" was always going to happen. Idk how she ended up with that nickname in-universe, but it's SO damn cute I couldn't not use it.
"Tracy" Drake is a subtle reference to Dick Tracy :D
Fem!Damian went through quite a few diff names before I settled on Damiah. It's literally just "Damian" with a tall "N" ya'know? Also it's really pretty
Duke -> Duchess is pretty self explanatory.
"Ra's al Ghul" is a title that means Head of the Demon, so there's no need to rename her.
Jeanne-Marie was hard to pick, because Jean-Paul is a very french/christian name, and I wanted to keep the hyphenated name AND those themes, and ultimately I couldn't come up with anything else that fit that still sounded nice. Low key a reference to Joan of Arc/Jeanne D'arc.
Odile Cobblepost because Odile is the name of a famous swan-girl. Bird pun.
Rowan is just Roman with an upside down M :'D
The rest p much have no specific thought process beyond "yay that's close enough!" or "I like how that sounds!"

Historic Return of Weird Tales
I am honored to be a part of this incredible, historic return just in time to destabilize a world view that could use some adjustments. I can’t wait to hold this in my hands ❤ In keeping with the poetry theme, my poem “Lost Generations” is included in this issue. From weirdtales.com: The first issue in the second century of Weird Tales features a cover and new HELLBOY story by Mike Mignola and…

Anniversary Tournament
Last year for Doctor Who's anniversary I ran a tournament between Doctor Who stories, and I wanted to so something different again this year. A tournament between real people important to the history of Doctor Who, actors, writers, producers, directors, composers, production designers. Technically it'll be a tournament for the most infuential person to Doctor Who and its development over the years, but really I want it to be a celebration of all of these people, and not just the winner.
To that end, the nomination form, you can also submit nominations normally, ie sending me an ask or replying to this post, however I won't be accepting propaganda through those methods.
I'm thinking I'll close nominations on the 18th of November, that might change but probably not by much

The final form of Radu Molasar, the evil entity trapped inside The Keep (1983).
Saw this in the theaters at the time, and was confused as heck. It felt like an unfinished film that was slapped together and rushed into theaters long before being finished.
That was before I learned that the original version from writer/director Michael Mann was 210 minutes long. The studio, Paramount Pictures, demanded a 120-minute cut for theatrical release. When that version tested terribly with audiences, the film was further cut to 96 minutes, which was then released to the theaters.
A film missing two hours of content? No wonder I was confused by all the plot holes and continuity errors. Of course, the soundtrack by Tangerine Dream, which was louder than the dialogue, and totally incongruous with the story, didn't help either.
Regardless, I'd be interested in seeing it again if the full director's cut was released, to see the story as it was originally intended.
Or I guess I could just read the original 1981 novel by F. Paul Wilson, or the 2006 graphic novel adaptation he wrote.
