something something time travel something something Extinction Avatar Jon AU
[ID: The first panel is of a man tilting his head up as if taking a deep breath, saying, "Ha." The second panel is of the man looking straight ahead and laughing, hence, "Ha ha ha ha ha HA HA HA HA HA HA HA!" The text becomes more jumbled and incoherent the more he laughs. The third panel is a view of the man from the front. He looks up menacingly at the reader, his right eye's sclera a blotch of red with a tiny scribble of white in place of his iris, and his left eye a bright iridescent green. An illusion of an eye hovers over his forehead, left cheek, and throat. He says, "Oh, Jonah. You just made a terrible mistake." End ID.]

a couple of Extinction!Jon designs using this picrew for a fic I'm playing with. I initially went with the snake eyes bc I was reading through the wiki for inspiration and it's noted that the only snake in the series appears in an Extinction related statement but the Jonny d'Ville eyes are also very fun and now I can't choose lol

*thinks about how I need to clear out my clothes so I can properly sort my new ones and take care of those I won't wear anymore*
*realizes Halloween is coming up and I have that whole week off*
*realizes I've got a lot of mix and match pieces I can put together for costumes*
I wonder if I can dress myself up as an avatar for each of the 15 Fears in The Magnus Archives...

Since I got into both The Magnus Archives and Vampire: the Masquerade, I found an interesting connection
Vampires in vtm are meant to be terrifying monsters that are the opposite of humanity, and there are 14 Clans, so it makes sense that the each could reflect a different primal fear that humans have, sorted into the 14 Entities (plus Thin-Bloods and the Extinction for fun)
Tumblr media
Banu Haqim: The Hunt - The Banu Haqim are known as “the Clan of the Hunt” and are known for being assassins, which mirrors the idea of chasing and hunting that this fear focuses on. The Blood Addition Bane also fits well with the addiction to the Hunt that its avatars often experience. The Hunt is also attached to law enforcement and often uses justice to motivate its avatars, which is a core focus of the Banu Haqim
Gangrel: The Slaughter - The Gangrel originate as a warrior clan from Ennoia, which relates to the Slaughter’s attachment with the fear of war. The Gangrel’s Feral Impulses also matches well with the blood lust and raw aggression that the Slaughter induces and feeds upon.
Hecata: The End - The Hecata’s obsession with Death makes them a clear connection with the fear of the finality of death and all things morbid and dead. The Hecata’s necromancy can be related to the items of cheating death such as the Catalogue of Trapped Dead and the animated cadaver
Malkavians: The Spiral - The Malkavians loose attachment to sanity and their visions that cause them to lose grip on what is real ties in very well with the Spiral’s themes of insanity and lose of reasoning. Their compulsion of Delusion aligns almost exactly with the Spiral’s twisting of perception and warping of what is real. Malkavians also have a symbolic attachment to mirrors and distorted reflections, which is also common with the Spiral
Nosferatu: The Eye - The Nosferatu’s habit for being silent observers and spies aligns itself to the passive, watching nature of the Eye and the fear of anyone being able to see you at any time. Their compulsion towards collecting secrets also fits with the Eye since it revolves around secrets known and uncovered, something the Nos specialize in. They themselves also experience a fear of being seen because their horrid appearances can often break the masquerade or lead to ridicule
Ravnos: The Vast - The Ravnos are travelers and wanderers that countless move across the world, which fits with the Vast and the idea of infinite possibles and expanse. Ravnos being dare devils also fits with the fear of heights the Vast induces since they will preform dangerous stunts and acrobatic tricks.
Toreador: The Stranger - The Toreador are often the most human looking out of all vampires save for their extreme beauty which is almost outside of what is humanly possibles, which is very similar to the Uncanny Valley and the “almost-human” quality of the Stranger. Toreador are also tied closely with music, dance and theater, which are all symbols used by the Stranger.
Tzimisce: The Flesh - The Tzimisce are the legendary Fleshcrafters, inspiring fear of horrible monstrosities of sinew and betrayal of the body, which is basically the definition of the Flesh. Taking a piece of someone’s body can also be used as an anchor or a grounding object (Jon’s rib), which aligns with the Tzimisce and their Possessiveness.
Venture: The Web - The Venture’s need for control and their constant politicking makes them a perfect fit for the Hidden Machinations, which deals with the fear of being controlled or manipulated. Them being (supposedly) at the top of vampire society also fits with the fact the Web always had the upper hand and was behind most of the events in TMA.
Brujah: The Desolation: The Bruja’s strong passion and Violent Temper align well with the fiery devotion of the Desolation and its avatar’s general disposition. Their compulsion of Rebellion and desire to “burn down” systems of control also fits with the destructive nature of this fear.
Tremere: The Buried -
(This one is the one I like the least and was a hard fit, so I may move stuff around in the future). The Treme’s pyramid smothers the people inside of it with hierarchy and leaves them trapped in the system, aligning with the metaphorical suffocation and entrapment of the Buried. Their Bane of Perfectionism also presents as a “crushing” expectation, which would fit with the Buried on a more conceptual level.
Lasombra: The Dark - This one feels pretty self explanatory but the Lasombra’s cold nature fits the descriptions of the Dark and its icy waters. The Dark also has a cult and ties to religious beliefs as it uses ignorance to control people, which is something the Lasombra have strong ties to. Their Bane of Ruthlessness mirrors how coldly cruel many Dark avatars can be such as Rayner trying to kill and posses a child.
Ministry: The Corruption - The Ministry and the Corruption both deal heavily with temptation, as the Hive sings its song of love, safety, and pleasure to its victims in the same way the Serpents do. One of the nicknames for the Ministry are the Corruptors
Duskborn/Thin-bloods: The Extinction - The Duskborn are the newest of the Kindred clans and the Extinction was said to be a new development as a fear. They both are signs of the end of the world, with the Extinction’s full manifestation being said to destroy humanity and the Thin-bloods connection to Gehenna.
Salubri: The Lonely - The Salubri being isolated due to propaganda and hunted to near extinction makes them a very Lonely clan. They also have ties to being slightly more peaceful, as the Salubri tend towards nonviolent hunting methods and the Lonely very truly killing its victims.
Anyways, once again feel free to critic this or pose any additional supports for any of these categories.

It’s that time of the year again. New TMAGP content. Yk what that means.
I have a theory.
Warning for TMAGP season 2 spoilers and TMA spoilers
Okay so. TMAGP 32. (First off, what the FUCK, Jonny.) It feels very Extinction coded. And yes, yes, IK.
“The Fears don’t exist in this universe. They’re all gone!!”
First of all, TMAGP isn’t over so hush, we can’t know for certain. Secondly, there isn’t supposed to be a giant portal connected to the TMA universe AND YET IT EXISTS. And third, if fucking CELIA. RIPLEY. and claw her way out of that portal, so can an eldritch fear entity. So I don’t wanna hear it 💕
Back on track, the episode feels so much like The Extinction and reminded me a lot of MAG 65: Binary, which (while being mainly Spiral) seemed heavily influenced by The Extinction, arguably the first statement we have of its emergence. The corrupted computer and the person inside the computer and all that creepy shit. And that got me thinking.
What if The Extinction did make it into the TMAGP universe?
Stay with me. I’m aware it’s sounds far fetched, and it probably is, but it’s an interesting thought.
In TMA, Jon never really interacted with The Extinction, or any of its statements, outside of maybe one or two occasions. It was mainly Martin.
And how did the Eyepocalypse come to fruition? Jon had to be marked or touched by each Fear, physically or emotionally.
Except Jon was never marked by The Extinction.
And what caused Jon to fully become The Archivist and have so much power within the Eyelocalypse? Completing The Watcher’s Crown. Power that allowed him to smite Avatars and walk through domains unaffected? Allowing him to travel the Eyelocalypse without much danger? But he never was marked by The Extinction, so what power would he have over it in this scenario?
Furthermore, in TMA season 5, all the Fears have more than one related statement. Except The Extinction. Which only has MAG 175: Epoch.
And that’s weird to me.
Also!!! Just like how all the other Fears feed into The End, especially during the Eyepocalypse, wouldn’t, oh I don’t know, the world literally ending, feed directly into The Extinction as well? Therefore strengthening it?
And out of all the Fears, we know the least about The Extinction because it is so new.
So what if, theoretically, The Extinction DID escape the ending of TMA???
Just a thought.

More TMA Head cannons and thought experiments and season 5 spoilers
(HEADS UP: This talks about toxic relationship dynamics. Specifically feeling isolated by a partner.)
Ok, so recently I've been really thinking hard about the Lonely Eyes ship. Specifically Elias|Jonah Magnus x Peter Lucas.
When I first heard of it, I'll admit, I dismissed it out of hand. "Peter hates people,-" I thought, "No way he willingly decideds to enter a commited relationship with anyone. That goes against his dedication of the lonely :/".
But then it sat with me.
It sat in my mind.
It seeped in to the shallow crevasses of my smooth brain.
It sat with me and now I want to understand.
It sat with me and now I want to make it work in a nuanced way.
Full love to those who ship them for fun or for aesthetic or for any other reason! This is me, full on in my red strings, corkboard, and supplemental era overanalyzing everything as I comb through the series after finishing it once.
ANYWAY! Peter Lucas is the avatar of the lonely, yes? Yes. Peter is a man of solitude. He doesn't want to talk. He doesn't want to get to know you. He doesn't want you around him. He wants to be alone. However, he notes that to feel truly alone, there still needs to be the knowledge of a person or group you are separate from. Without that comparison, being lonely can lose its meaning. It can slip into the Vast's territory. This need for people dispite wanting to be separate from them is why Peter saw the extinction as a real threat.
So he keeps himself at arms length from people, but he still needs them there. No closer and no further. Just enough for him to feel truly alone.
Elias Bouchard is the newest name and face of the body snatcher, Jonah Magnus; the avatar of the eye. (I headcanon that every time Jonah body snatches, a bit of personality is picked up from his victims. Because of this, in this post, I will refer to this incarnation specifically as Elias) Elias loves the eye and is very well attuned to it. He's conniving, quick wited, and very choice with his words. He lives to know. To know you. To know your secrets. To know your failures. To know what keeps you awake at night and to know when it's best to remind you of of all these facts. When he targets someone, he is focused and deliberate. This style of "preying" not only lends itself to feeding the eye as it rattles his victims to thier core, but also allows Elias to blackmail them into collecting MORE information for him as they don't want others to know what Elias knows. It worked on Daisy, Melanie, and (almost) Martin.
But an interesting little side effect of the Eye's power is that it makes you acutely aware of your own presence. You feel singled out by it. It knows everything about you. Intimate things that no random person should know. It watches you. Did something you do give it that knowledge? Who else knows what it knows? Who eles knows and isn't saying anything? Who eles knows and is thinking about you and your worst habits, your dirty secrets, your troubled past that you worked so hard to put behind you? They must know. But they refuse to admit it. You can't trust them. It's you against those who know you and those who will ever know you. And what a truly lonely state to be in.
Jon once said, "The lonely and the eye aren't too far apart are they? Not really.. What goods being alone if you don't know how alone you truly are?"
The eye makes you know how alone you are.
So back to Lonely Eyes (if you read this far, thanks for joining me, I promise I have a point to make). What if they're relationship was super toxic. Like textbook toxic, but they are okay with it because it's the aspects that seem toxic to an average person that they actually value in their relationship.
Imagine, Elias and Peter have an on and off relationship. Elias knows Peter. He knows how to make Peter feel like he's been seen. He knows what games Peter is willing to play and what bets he's willing to make. He hunts Peter. He enjoys the information Peter gives him, yes, but he also enjoys the slight fear that oozes out of Peter whenever they speak.
Peter hates being seen. He doesn't like that Elias "understand's him". That makes him uncomfortable. But he can't help but be drawn back in by this sence of isolation Elias' presence brings. The feeling that he can't reach the outside world when Elias is around. He wouldn't want the world there anyway, whether it's because he never liked socializing or because everytime he talks with Elias, he feels like nobody should know what Elias knows. That this lonely man had a code Elias has secretly hacked into. That Elias could be his undoing if he wanted to be.
Because of this, Peter can't handle Elias for long bouts of time. The uncomfortably becomes far too much for the fimiliar lonelness to soothe over. So Peter eventually leaves to do his own thing ...on his own boat... for his own entity...on his own time.
But, almost like a parting gift, the memory of Elias drifts in and out of his head on those long voyages. Those sparse memories makes it feel like a person is missing. A very important person is out of reach. A person who kept him on his toes and saw him whether he liked it or not, is now gone. No more chats. No more games. No more Elias. And a strong wave of loneliness hits him like a crashing wave. Peter can't help but bask in the weight of it all.
Overtime, those thoughts just don't give the same punch of loneliness. Eventually, he feels relativly average all things considered. He doesn't immediately go back like an addict might, but he will treat himself once in a while... when he finds himself washed up on the ports of London.
Elias may not count on Peter's visits. Once Peter is gone, his fun has been had and it's back to babysitting archivists. However, you would be hard pressed to find Elias focused on his work when he can see Peter walking up the institute's steps, and he knows it's about to start all over again.

HUGE SPOILERS FOR TMA S4 AND S5
Ok so I have a thought about The Extinction;
The fear itself is new enough to not have any avatars serving it. But with the Eyepocalypse it is obviously manifesting with more intensity than it ever has. As it was said, the World will not be able to work like this forever since no new humans will be born and thus humanity will be going extinct. The Fears, unable to feed on anything, will thus eventually go extinct themselves.
Seen as all of humanity (with a few exceptions) is trapped within domains, experiencing a specific scenario unrelated to the eyepocalypse, they are not fearing extinction (except the extinction domain in MAG 175) but the fear of whichever domain they're in.
This leads me to wonder if the Extinction is, especially during the eyepocalypse, is mostly feared by the Fears themselves seen as they are going to cease to exist once the End has claimed all human life remaining in their world. Is the Extinction a fear of the Fears?
And to spin it further, with Jon being the one to cause the eyepocalypse and thus bringing the fear of Extinction to the Fears, does that make him an avatar of the Extinction alongside the Eye? With the discussions in MAG 199 and his decision in MAG 200 to keep the world as is but just make the suffering for humanity more bearable, he is deciding on the extinction of the Fears.
With him being at the center (the pupil of the eye if you will) of the fear of Extinction, does that make Jon the first and only avatar of it?
Maybe my brain went off the deep end with this but maybe someone else gets it in the way that I do???

they can never catch a break, can they????
Episode 135
I thought having the extinction emerge as a new fear was bad enough. I though we would be busy stopping it this season.
BUT NO. OF COURSE, NOW THE GODDAMN DARKNESS NEEDS TO TRY TO PERFORM A RITUAL AS WELL!!!
How come that Jon managed to (more or less) happily be the head archivist for two years or something (NO idea of the timeline) without ANYTHING BAD HAPPENJNG!?!??
Obviously, we had Jane Prentiss who was creepy and an avatar of the insect fear but she was really not that bad!!
AT LEAST THERE WASN'T A WORLD ENDING THREAT LURKING AROUND EVERY CORNER!!
GIVE HIM A BREAK PLEASE
Also: NO idea what to think of elias. Seriously, I dont have any clue. Is he good??? Is he evil???
Why the hell is he working with basira?????
we will see i guess haha

Yellowjackets as The Magnus Arcives entities
Shauna Shipman - Avatar of the flesh
Being the butcher it felt like the closest, being manifested in meet, corpses, and cannibalism. Having the fears include dysmorphia, being eaten, and being killed for meat. It includes christian imagery, going back to Shauna becoming catholic before the crash.
Lottie Mathews - Avatar of the eye
The Eye can be seen as “the main” entity of the Magnus Institute, the manifestations include books, eyes, and security cameras. Mostly seeing Lotti fit more into the fears being exposed, watched, and knowing horrible knowledge. Seeing that Jon is the head of the archives, Lottie is a leader even if she doesn't fully understand or realize it.
Misty Quigley - Avatar of the lonely
The lonely also being known as “the alone one” Misty can be seen doing whatever it takes to be included. With the manifestation of silence with the fear of abandonment. While trying to make things exciting with noise and destroying the box with abandonment.
Taissa Turner - Avatar of the spiral
Dealing with the problem of “other Tai” it all lines up with spiral. The fears of madness, lying to yourself, and gaslighting. Manifestations include insomnia and hallucinations going hand in hand with the man with no eyes. Associated with doubt of sanity doing whatever it takes for Van to live and for her to be elected in season 1.
Van Palmer - Avatar of the desolation
Basically the entity of fire and using it for destruction. Manifestations include flame and heat, fears include loss, pain, and burning. Nearly dying countless times due to fire, the crash, after her wolf attack, and during her adult almost death sequence.
Natalie Scatorccio - Avatar of the slaughter
With the fears of war and unpredictable violence Nat was just trying to live her life out in the wilderness and go home if possible. Manifestations include weapons and war imagery, her being the hunter and trusted with the rifle and war imagery could be included in her being a leader and judge.
Travis Martinez - Avatar of the extinction
It felt fitting so you have to trust me. Extinction is the newest of entities, an outcast you could say. With the fear of catastrophic change and manifestations of destruction of natural order and nature. It also makes me think it fits with him being the first adult to die without ever actually seeing him.
Ben Scott - Avatar of the corruption
Considered to be toxic with the feeling of revulsion. With manifestations of loss of self, decay, infection, and rot. He's seen as an outcast by the Yellowjackets being the only adult and him insisting he's the most sane one out there.
