“We’re using the wrong word when we talk about appropriation. Think about it as obliteration. When you take and then erase, you remove that entity’s capacity to be attached to this thing that they created, to make money from this thing that they created.” Zandria Robinson (Little Richard: I Am Everything)

"The researchers tested AutoSpill against a selection of password managers on Android 10, 11, and 12 and found that 1Password 7.9.4, LastPass 5.11.0.9519, Enpass 6.8.2.666, Keeper 16.4.3.1048, and Keepass2Android 1.09c-r0 are susceptible to attacks due to using Android’s autofill framework.
Google Smart Lock 13.30.8.26 and the DashLane 6.2221.3 followed a different technical approach for the autofill process. They did not leak sensitive data to the host app unless JavaScript injection was used."

Dialogue with Gemini (24) The CFA franc and French domination of Africa

President Macron of France
My question:
The CFA franc that France circulates in Central and West Africa makes it difficult for the covered regions to export and forces them to donate 50% of export profits to France. This is a convenient way of colonizing. France is a stingy sting, but are there any other Western countries that have a similar system?
Huggingface’s answer:
Yes, there are examples of Western European countries other than France that maintain similar monetary systems in the areas that were once colonies. Some of these countries and regions are listed below.
1. Portugal and Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau, Macau, and Timor-Leste: These regions still use the escudo, a currency circulated when they were former Portuguese colonies. These regions continue to use the escudo rather than issuing their currency.
2. Spain and Equatorial Guinea: Equatorial Guinea was once a Spanish colony and still uses the Spanish currency, the euro. It does not issue its own currency.
3. Netherlands and Caribbean countries: Caribbean countries such as the Netherlands Antilles, Aruba, and Curacao used the Dutch currency, the guilder. The euro is still widely used in these regions.
4. United Kingdom and Gibraltar, the Falkland Islands, and Saint Helena: The British pound is in circulation in these regions. Some regions issue their currencies, but they maintain a fixed exchange rate system with the pound.
These Western countries can maintain their economic and political dominance by maintaining similar monetary systems in their former colonies.
Impression:
Although not as blatant as France, European countries are still exploiting Asia and Africa through their semi-colonies.

Heya! Questioning the interaction between Gandalf The White and Sidisi, The Undead Vizier. Currently understanding it will put to sacrifice triggers on the stack but not 100% on the tutor triggers resulting from sacing.
The only thing that Gandalf will copy from Sidisi is the Exploit trigger. This means that you'll have two opportunities to sacrifice a creature. For each time that you do, you'll get to tutor a card. That only happens once per sacrifice though, since it's triggering from the creature being exploited, not from it leaving the battlefield even if it is legendary.

Guess who took advantage of something in Lego Harry Potter Years 1-4?
Using the Transfiguration Charm that’s an optional lesson, I turned Quirrell into a rat, changed into him, and got to play as him (with several spells students hadn’t unlocked yet) to access Knockturn Alley and get the character tokens of several characters I shouldn’t have gotten at that point in the story. And purchase them so I have access to spells I shouldn’t.
After that, I 100%’d the first level, getting Griphook the goblin (yes, I know Potter goblins are bad Jew stereotypes) because he’s the only character in the game who can open locks with his key.
Later, I also purchased Padma Patil (for Ravenclaw access), Hagrid (for his super strength; his umbrella that contains the broken fragments of his wand can only perform a basic blast the files call Fracto Strata, which every wand can perform even when you haven’t unlocked anything on the spell wheel yet, and Wingardium Leviosa; other characters cover what Hagrid can’t do), Fang (who has super strength and the ability to dig; oddly enough, in Free Play, Hermione only has the spells I’ve learned in the story but can still summon Crookshanks, who can dig and go in pet pipes; I don’t know if playing without that exploit would result in Crookshanks not appearing with Hermione retroactively until I cleared the first level of Year 3), and Filch (who has access to all four houses, the only other character with that ability being the two variants of Dumbledore).

do you have any ideas about why so many students are struggling with literacy now? I know that illiteracy and reading comprehension have been issues for years and most americans read at like a 5th grade reading level but I’m curious why it seems to be worse now (pandemic? no child left behind?)
It is everything. There’s not one answer. I could talk about this forever so instead I set a five minute timer on my phone and wrote a list of as many of the many things that are causing this on a systemic level that I could think of:
It’s parents not reading with their kids (a privilege, but some parents have that privilege to be able to do this and don’t.)
It’s youtube from birth and never being bored.
It’s phasing out phonics for sight words (memorizing without understanding sounds or meaning) in elementary schools in the early aughts.
It’s defunding public libraries that do all the community and youth outreach.
It’s NCLB and mandating standardized tests which center reading short passages as opposed to longform texts so students don’t build up the endurance or comprehension skills.
It’s NCLB preventing schools from holding students back if they lack the literacy skills to move onto the next grade because they can’t be left behind so they’re passed on.
It’s the chronic underfunding of ESL and Special Ed programs for students who need extra literacy support.
It’s the cultural devaluing of the humanities in favor of stem and business because those make more money which leads to a lot of students to completely disregard reading and writing.
It’s the learning loss from covid.
It’s covid trauma manifesting in a lot of students as learned helplessness, or an inability to “figure things out” or push through adversity to complete challenging tasks independently, especially reading difficult texts.
It’s covid normalizing cheating and copying.
It’s increasing phone use.
It’s damage to attention span exacerbated by increased phone use that leaves you without an ability to sit and be bored ever without 2-3 forms of constant stimulation.
It’s shortform video becoming the predominant form of social media content as opposed to anything text-based.
It’s starting to also be generative AI.
It’s the book bans.
what did I miss.
#i’m not immune to any of this. I’m trying to read more. it’s good for me#I think that the literacy crisis is a manufactured result of a lot of different policy choices because it creates an exploitable underclass
