Hey! i like how you draw hands, can you do a guide on how you do it???????

I looove drawing hands, but they're as fun to draw as they are difficult 👌👏

Usually when I draw, I don't go for perfect realism/anatomically correct, I mostly follow whatever makes the drawing look good, with exaggerated shapes, sharp angles, etc.

Drawing with references is the best advice I can give you!

When I struggle to draw hands I usually just look at my own hand and try to copy it (I have a small mirror next to my computer to make it easier), it works, but it's not always the best option. If you want to improve quickly, find some pictures and practice by drawing them!

A lot of websites have a built-in timer for studies, here is the one I used for this one for example:

Do you have any tips for drawing faces at interesting angles? I try to draw faces tilted up or down or to the side but it keeps going wrong and I end up reverting to something more stilted. You make it look effortless

the only reason why things can appear effortless is bc the illustrators put lots of effort into practice beforehand! my biggest advice if you're finding an angle tricky is to use reference images - i absolutely do this especially when the angles are more extreme than what i've gotten used to drawing 👍

as for a tip that might be helpful: try to think about the physical space what you're drawing would occupy - i've said this before, but thinking about heads (in this case) as a 3d shape with certain characteristics will help you understand what changes in the viewer's perspective (= what you put down on the page) when you turn it this way and that

hellooo ur colours are so fun and lively... i love them so much! they feel bright and saturated and like im really looking at the subject in persoon! im probably not the first to ask but.. how do u do it.. how do u pick ur colours.... also do you have any favourites?

Hey, thanks for the question! my colour-picking approach is very much based on ✨ vibes ✨ tbh: I want to capture the essence of whatever I'm drawing, and for me, that really comes out in my colour choices. like I don't aim for realism and perfect colour matching, I want to match the way the subject feels. a red crunchy apple must be REALLY RED! trees in the park are SUPER GREEN! etc. also I just find saturated colours to be fun :^]

I wrote down a few thoughts on how I like to think about colours with a small example using a ref photo I took, since "vibes" is not a useful answer lol

I really like using the colour variation brush settings as a kind of substitute for the random colour variation one gets when working with traditional mediums. if the percentages are too high, it gets annoying - if I'm painting a red bush, I don't want a sudden lemon yellow brush stroke - but keeping them at a low but non-zero value adds just a bit of liveliness to a solid-colour area.

With the colour saturation, I try to maintain some balance, though: if everything is super saturated, then it kinda loses its impact. like if the apple is REALLY RED, and the background is also REALLY ANOTHER COLOUR, then your eye may feel overwhelmed and not know where to look.

As for favourites - I like pairing blue & orange together, and I also really like green :D

Hello! Thank you so much! 🥺 honestly I don't think I'm very on model drawing these two, but here are the things I keep in mind drawing their hair!

The little cowlick flip on Astarion's hair is usually at the left side of the head! I change sides depending on which angle I'm drawing because. Anime. [I think so long as a character looks consistently like the same guy in anything I draw, it's okay to be a little fucky with it]

Gale is much simpler to draw, but I struggle drawing him from the front as the hair truly looks like a helmet from the front and it's unflattering with my anime ass 😭😭😭 other than that, there's basically only 3 portions that I keep in mind!
