Maybe this is a hot take, but as someone who literally went to a film school for a masters degree and is an avid video game fan, I feel like there’s just too much media out there that uses things like flash warnings to cover their ass for effects they like, don’t even need?

Like, every music video does not need strobe lighting. Games with blinding effects don’t need that effect to be bright fucking white. I’m sick of living in a world where giving a warning is enough to lock an entire group of people of enjoying art and stories for the fucking aesthetic. There are other ways to make things visually interesting I swear.

I don’t really have the right words but i like the idea of Hobie doing quick checks for people’s safety without even really moving too much, as both a skill learned from his childhood and just a way he would be anyway. Like let’s say Gwen is calling him and she’s crying but sounds very detached. Hobie’s gonna do a quick mental checklist like this: (Injured? -> Alone? -> Aware? -> Show up -> distract as hiding weapons -> calm her -> check speech -> move location? -> check for injury) and it gets more complex as need be. He’d do this with all his friends and the people he helps in general, and it’s a quick and barely noticeable process unless he tells you he’s even doing that, which he usually doesn’t. I also like to think he was kind of doing this when he was talking to Miles on the way to meet Miguel, just very toned down (for him).

While we're on the topic of "solidarity," I have to say that I have been more "invalidated" and had both my physical and mental health struggles minimized by able-bodied mentally ill/ND individuals than I have by literally anyone else, including fully abled people and medical professionals. Just so we're on the same page.

It can be really isolating to be someone whose disability made them drop out of school before I even got the second half of my education. I dropped out at 12 years old. I had been in secondary school for just one year. And even when I meet other disabled people who left school, all of them either left for non-physical reasons or eventually went back to school and continued their education.

Its such a specific trauma I have that no one else’s experience can really resonate with.

I was in severe pain during the most vital parts of my development.

I was completely isolated from all peers my own age and any other human that wasn’t immediate family for years. Not one single friend for the majority of my early teen years and for years after that, the only friends I had were online. I’m 20 years old now and the only irl friend I have is my boyfriend.

I have zero education past the very very very basics. I barely even have the education of a 12 year old because I was dealing with getting diagnosed and was barely in school for a few years before dropping out.

No qualifications, developmentally stunted, isolated, mostly house bound, uneducated, and still in severe pain every day of my life. And theres no one I’ve met that can really relate to what I went through.
