playing style savvy is not even a little bit different than real life retail. a customer will walk in and ask for something to wear to a black tie event and you can't say Ma'am We Exclusively Stock April Bonbon so you give her the first gold thing you see and she leaves without buying anything. someone will ask for a t shirt. you will show them a t shirt. they're gonna be like "ummmmm no actually" and leave without buying anything. someone is crying in your general direction because her boyfriend broke up with her. somehow selling her a dress will fix this
#xenon screams#style savvy#that first one is based off of a real life experience#worked in a children's hair accessory store. someone wanted a hair accessory to wear to a black tie event#those were her exact words#ma'am we sell hairbows and plastic jewelry#if i worked in a place that sold black tie level accessories i do not think the security would be this light

idk if im late to the party but i thought it was interesting that 1899 used plato's allegory but never really surfaced passed discussing the shadows vs the fire, only to reveal at the end that they themselves are living the rest of the allegory: theyre running away from the sun that is their reality bc it hurts too much. they prefer the shadows on the wall, the darkness of the cave, bc the light of their reality is too painful for them to accept.
#rei rambles#1899#1899 spoilers#plato's allegory of the cave#my fave part of the allegory has always been the prisoners getting blinded by the sun and choosing to go back#i never used to understand that part and i would tell myself i never would choose to go back#but now i kinda get it. i might not say no to educational enlightenment but there are some other things id mb return from.#or at least take a break from.#anyways so fascinating to me that all these ppl would choose to freeze in space only to be on a boat in 1899#like. is that ciaran's fault? bc id assume theyd want to be in a utopia not like. a passenger on a boat.#furthermore do they have translators on board that they just chose not to instill?#were those crimes and tragedies in their lives real? it didnt seem like modern times in any of their memories/dreams#but im aware that they might just all be very rural. but if thats the case then howd they end up on a spaceship?#also is lucien really prone to seizures and actually dead?#is jĂŠrĂ´me for real a stowaway even tho he has his own pod?????#so many questions#did they sell pods based on ticket? then why were there ppl still being crew and shovelling coal???#how much did landon pay to be there?#or is it just a volunteer experiment run by maura's family????#dang

One of the many hills Iâll die on is my defense of the Girl Scouts if you hear the âgirlâ in Girl Scouts and immediately assume âwell, clearly all theyâre teaching them is how to bake cookies and manage a household and become a good wife and mother who stays home and cooks and cleansâ then that shits on you yeah some troops arenât going to be as good as others it all depends on the leadership and resources available but that doesnât negate the fact that at itâs core it is there to teach young girls valuable skills and it can provide unique opportunities and a nice community for people who may need it
#like. my experience wasnât even the /best/#I wasnât bullied by the other girls by any means but I also wasnât liked I was just. there and kinda outcast from them#and my troop was on a military base we didnât have a lot#but we still did fun arts and crafts projects and we went camping ALL the time#I wasnât allowed to do much of anything so it was a chance to get out of the house#and spend time with people my age outside of school#even the cookie selling is often used to teach about managing money and businesses ect#and lots of people get experience with first aid and STEM projects in it#when my sister was signing up after we moved they were talking about doing#lots of conservation and environmental clean up projects#which is cool!!!#from what I hear the Girl Scouts keep up with the fucken times besties#itâs been a long time since I was a part of it but I still think itâs a great thing#and I hate when people dunk on it and reduce it to just selling cookies#and assume that because itâs for girls it only teaches old fashioned misogynistic standards#also things like knowing how the basics of how to cook and shit like that are still important???#they donât teach that in most schools anymore except as an elective#itâs not that young girls /shouldnât/ learn that itâs that it should be taught to people regardless of gender#you need that shit to survive damn#we support Girl Scouts in this household

I slept rly deeply last night even tho it took me a while to get to sleep but I think that was bc I had acid reflux and I'd been playing videogames too late not anything else.... still only got 6 hrs but doing pretty okay all things considered đ
#and not feeling sick this morning so im sticking w the higher dose for one more day. my heart rate does feel a little uncomfortably fast#but its tolerable. just gonna make notes of how it goes through the day and ill submit my review form to my dr this evening#and hopefully she'll give me the green light to drop back down instead of continuing to titrate up#this is making me think of those heartrate fetishists... do u think i could make money selling tachycardic heart recordings online#i do wanna try to exercise this morning while i have energy. might take the bike out it looks like a gorgeously sunny day#maybe ill try to map my cycle route to work so i can consider cycling there instead of taking the bus in a couple weeks..#i cant atm thp cuz they have scaffolding up and its blocked off the bike racks sadly đ#i think making myself eat + drink as much as i can has helped control the nausea too. just need a lot of fuel to process meds properly ig#and a lot of sleep.. its a bit stressful to think abt how rigid im going to have to be abt my daily routines if i want to stay medicated#but to be honest i have a pretty rock solid sleep/meal routine already bc its the only way i can function with the hours i work#so like. i dont rly need to worry too much. i think i reacted badly the first couple days bc my base anxiety was high#and then bc that feeling was heightened by meds -> made me not eat/sleep properly -> knock on sickness the next day#but yeah still the side effects arent very nice and i dont wanna take the risk of it exacerbating every difficult emotion i deal with#but fingers crossed bc 30 worked rly nice for me and i had barely any side effects so hopefully i can settle w that long term đ¤#we will see....#ANYWAY. sorry for making the same post over and over the last couple days. talking abt it on here has helped me feel a lot calmer#i dont wanna bother ppl irl w every thought and physical symptom i experience hourly. but this is my blog i can do what i want#hope everyone else has a nice sunday <3#.diaries

I just donât get SM, like they know Dream sells a ton of albums every comeback, but they never produce enough for the first press? Like, actually, I feel like this goes for most of their artists/groups, theyâre always out of stock or thereâs some kind of production issue
#like apparently Ktown4u and a lot of other Korean based sites had to send out notifications of delay#because they just donât have enough in stock#like @ sm: ??????#you have to KNOW at this point that theyâre gonna sell several hundred thousand copies of not a million#especially when youâre releasing multiple versions#and Iâm just lowkey annoyed right now bc my package of albums which is the photobook version and digipacks have said ready to ship since the#19th but apparently that means that theyâre still packaging them and there is a delay in that too#but now Iâm confused bc they said thereâs the delay on those albums so does that mean that my order is actually secured and ready to be pack#and shipped? or am I actually still waiting for a restock?#and also I ordered one of the special version in a separate order and now Iâm wondering how long thatâs gonna take to get restocked bc I#ordered it with other things#makes me wonder too if my wayv albums are gonna experience a delay#and the seasonâs greetings too

funniest thing about mira is that she used to be a bratty rich kid. like that's absolutely hilarious to me. she grows out of the brat part after the whole seeing hydranoid get tortured thingy but like. she was still rich, she has 0 concept on how expensive things are. she sees a loaf of bread thats ÂŁ5 and mira says "oh thats really cheap" at the exact same time ace says "why the fuck is this bread so expensive" and they just stare at each other.
#based on a real experience. i really did see a loaf of bread for 5 quid who the fuck sells bread for 5 quid#it wasn't even fresh bread it was just the regular ass sliced bread u see on shelves#im ace in this scenario#as someone who thought one of my working class friends was rich#middle and upper class ppl are bizarre

finally accepting that anime conventions are no longer my thing even though they've been such a fun annual pastime for the past 10 years and i wont be buying a ticket with the rest of my friends who are still hyped and going together
#its da fomo#but last year i was so genuinely disappointed that i wasnt into ANYTHING at smashcon except for what indie stalls were selling#and i only bought like 2 or 3 things?? and none of them were anime related#there wasnt even elden ring stuff (since based on experience the hit games of the year usually produced fan merch at the con)#the only game stuff were genshin which is so đ#and the actual anime content i didnt even recognise even tho i saw the same characters over and over so im clearly out of the loop by now#one of my friends was disappointed that there wasn't a single one piece fan merch which is a classic yk? idk#this is me nostalgia ranting im not actually angry at the anime subculture for changing ofc#except for being overwhelmingly genshin that was fucking tragic

Tumblrâs Core Product Strategy
Here at Tumblr, weâve been working hard on reorganizing how we work in a bid to gain more users. A larger user base means a more sustainable company, and means we get to stick around and do this thing with you all a bit longer. What follows is the strategy we're using to accomplish the goal of user growth. The @labs group has published a bit already, but this is bigger. Weâre publishing it publicly for the first time, in an effort to work more transparently with all of you in the Tumblr community. This strategy provides guidance amid limited resources, allowing our teams to focus on specific key areas to ensure Tumblrâs future.
The Diagnosis
In order for Tumblr to grow, we need to fix the core experience that makes Tumblr a useful place for users. The underlying problem is that Tumblr is not easy to use. Historically, we have expected users to curate their feeds and lean into curating their experience. But this expectation introduces friction to the user experience and only serves a small portion of our audience.Â
Tumblrâs competitive advantage lies in its unique content and vibrant communities. As the forerunner of internet culture, Tumblr encompasses a wide range of interests, such as entertainment, art, gaming, fandom, fashion, and music. People come to Tumblr to immerse themselves in this culture, making it essential for us to ensure a seamless connection between people and content.Â
To guarantee Tumblrâs continued success, weâve got to prioritize fostering that seamless connection between people and content. This involves attracting and retaining new users and creators, nurturing their growth, and encouraging frequent engagement with the platform.
Our Guiding Principles
To enhance Tumblrâs usability, we must address these core guiding principles.
Expand the ways new users can discover and sign up for Tumblr.
Provide high-quality content with every app launch.
Facilitate easier user participation in conversations.
Retain and grow our creator base.
Create patterns that encourage users to keep returning to Tumblr.
Improve the platformâs performance, stability, and quality.
Below is a deep dive into each of these principles.
Principle 1: Expand the ways new users can discover and sign up for Tumblr.
Tumblr has a âtop of the funnelâ issue in converting non-users into engaged logged-in users. We also have not invested in industry standard SEO practices to ensure a robust top of the funnel. The referral traffic that we do get from external sources is dispersed across different pages with inconsistent user experiences, which results in a missed opportunity to convert these users into regular Tumblr users. For example, users from search engines often land on pages within the blog network and blog viewâwhere there isnât much of a reason to sign up.Â
We need to experiment with logged-out tumblr.com to ensure we are capturing the highest potential conversion rate for visitors into sign-ups and log-ins. We might want to explore showing the potential future user the full breadth of content that Tumblr has to offer on our logged-out pages. We want people to be able to easily understand the potential behind Tumblr without having to navigate multiple tabs and pages to figure it out. Our current logged-out explore page does very little to help users understand âwhat is Tumblr.â which is a missed opportunity to get people excited about joining the site.
Actions & Next Steps
Improving Tumblrâs search engine optimization (SEO) practices to be in line with industry standards.
Experiment with logged out tumblr.com to achieve the highest conversion rate for sign-ups and log-ins, explore ways for visitors to âgetâ Tumblr and entice them to sign up.
Principle 2: Provide high-quality content with every app launch.
We need to ensure the highest quality user experience by presenting fresh and relevant content tailored to the userâs diverse interests during each session. If the user has a bad content experience, the fault lies with the product.
The default position should always be that the user does not know how to navigate the application. Additionally, we need to ensure that when people search for content related to their interests, it is easily accessible without any confusing limitations or unexpected roadblocks in their journey.
Being a 15-year-old brand is tough because the brand carries the baggage of a personâs preconceived impressions of Tumblr. On average, a user only sees 25 posts per session, so the first 25 posts have to convey the value of Tumblr: it is a vibrant community with lots of untapped potential. We never want to leave the user believing that Tumblr is a place that is stale and not relevant.Â
Actions & Next Steps
Deliver great content each time the app is opened.
Make it easier for users to understand where the vibrant communities on Tumblr are.Â
Improve our algorithmic ranking capabilities across all feeds.Â
Principle 3: Facilitate easier user participation in conversations.
Part of Tumblrâs charm lies in its capacity to showcase the evolution of conversations and the clever remarks found within reblog chains and replies. Engaging in these discussions should be enjoyable and effortless.
Unfortunately, the current way that conversations work on Tumblr across replies and reblogs is confusing for new users. The limitations around engaging with individual reblogs, replies only applying to the original post, and the inability to easily follow threaded conversations make it difficult for users to join the conversation.
Actions & Next Steps
Address the confusion within replies and reblogs.
Improve the conversational posting features around replies and reblogs.Â
Allow engagements on individual replies and reblogs.
Make it easier for users to follow the various conversation paths within a reblog thread.Â
Remove clutter in the conversation by collapsing reblog threads.Â
Explore the feasibility of removing duplicate reblogs within a userâs Following feed.Â
Principle 4: Retain and grow our creator base.
Creators are essential to the Tumblr community. However, we havenât always had a consistent and coordinated effort around retaining, nurturing, and growing our creator base. Â
Being a new creator on Tumblr can be intimidating, with a high likelihood of leaving or disappointment upon sharing creations without receiving engagement or feedback. We need to ensure that we have the expected creator tools and foster the rewarding feedback loops that keep creators around and enable them to thrive.
The lack of feedback stems from the outdated decision to only show content from followed blogs on the main dashboard feed (âFollowingâ), perpetuating a cycle where popular blogs continue to gain more visibility at the expense of helping new creators. To address this, we need to prioritize supporting and nurturing the growth of new creators on the platform.
It is also imperative that creators, like everyone on Tumblr, feel safe and in control of their experience. Whether it be an ask from the community or engagement on a post, being successful on Tumblr should never feel like a punishing experience.
Actions & Next Steps
Get creatorsâ new content in front of people who are interested in it.Â
Improve the feedback loop for creators, incentivizing them to continue posting.
Build mechanisms to protect creators from being spammed by notifications when they go viral.
Expand ways to co-create content, such as by adding the capability to embed Tumblr links in posts.
Principle 5: Create patterns that encourage users to keep returning to Tumblr.
Push notifications and emails are essential tools to increase user engagement, improve user retention, and facilitate content discovery. Our strategy of reaching out to you, the user, should be well-coordinated across product, commercial, and marketing teams.
Our messaging strategy needs to be personalized and adapt to a userâs shifting interests. Our messages should keep users in the know on the latest activity in their community, as well as keeping Tumblr top of mind as the place to go for witty takes and remixes of the latest shows and real-life events. Â
Most importantly, our messages should be thoughtful and should never come across as spammy. Â
Actions & Next Steps
Conduct an audit of our messaging strategy.
Address the issue of notifications getting too noisy; throttle, collapse or mute notifications where necessary. Â
Identify opportunities for personalization within our email messages.Â
Test what the right daily push notification limit is.Â
Send emails when a user has push notifications switched off.
Principle 6: Performance, stability and quality.
The stability and performance of our mobile apps have declined. There is a large backlog of production issues, with more bugs created than resolved over the last 300 days. If this continues, roughly one new unresolved production issue will be created every two days. Apps and backend systems that work well and don't crash are the foundation of a great Tumblr experience. Improving performance, stability, and quality will help us achieve sustainable operations for Tumblr.
Improve performance and stability: deliver crash-free, responsive, and fast-loading apps on Android, iOS, and web.
Improve quality: deliver the highest quality Tumblr experience to our users.Â
Move faster: provide APIs and services to unblock core product initiatives and launch new features coming out of Labs.
Conclusion
Our mission has always been to empower the worldâs creators. We are wholly committed to ensuring Tumblr evolves in a way that supports our current users while improving areas that attract new creators, artists, and users. You deserve a digital home that works for you. You deserve the best tools and features to connect with your communities on a platform that prioritizes the easy discoverability of high-quality content. This is an invigorating time for Tumblr, and we couldnât be more excited about our current strategy.
#admittedly i am a little amused by the people in the notes like 'NO ALGORITHM CONTENT FOR TUMBLR DO NOT PUT ALGORITHMS IN THIS SITE'#besties we already have algorithmic content. the 'for you' tab. it's been here a while#i get the desire to encourage new content creators and get their work in front of more eyes to encourage them to stay#and i dont even necessairly mind having an algorithmic feed to discover new creators#but *why* does that need to be *on the dashboard*? why does algo content need to be under the 'following' tab?#people i've followed should be under 'people ive followed' and 'suggested content' should be under a suggested content tab#weve had the tumblr radar forever why cant we have a tumblr radar tab#i just really dont like the idea of algo content & following content being combined#thats what makes tumblr different from other websites! its the selling point! it's not 'outdated'#you can provide that sweet engagement-driving algo content without adding it to the dash#tumblr needs to expand its user base which means appealling to twitterinas and insta users and redditors and all that#which means changing the site. i get that.#but if you want to expand the userbase without alienating the old userbase you cant just do away with the features#that the old userbase is *here for*#if you want to provide a unique & superior social media experience that users *cant get* anywhere else#you have to play to your existing strengths while exploring news ideas#since when has blindly copying twitter worked out for anyone?#i do like the transparency tho cheers#i remember the olden days of tumblr when Staff was just like a fairy people might be able to summon under certain conditions#i like hearing from them nowadays

what companies who sell you anti aging stuff don't want you to know is that if you're chill about aging, your perception of attractiveness changes as you get older. there is no "wall" where you suddenly become ugly and unfuckable because in my experience what actually happens is you get into your thirties and suddenly realize that people in their thirties are hot as fuck and the "flaws" that the beauty industry wants you to panic about are a feature not a bug, and based on the std statistics in nursing homes I don't really expect that trajectory to change.

Haha wow what a night, started with cozy new wild pants I have for my meadowlark OC, about halfway through I heard a skittering, and a gentle thump against my door. I get up to investigate and HOLY FUCK ME THERES A BAT IN MY BEDROOM. Spent about 20 heart pounding minutes trying to lure and capture the lil guy, (no pics he was big stress and wanted to go home) so I grabbed a towel, and just, slowly cupped him, he chittered and squeaked and screamed and made sounds i didn't think something as heavy as 4 grapes could make.
I released him outside and almost immediately his mate came up and they fluttered off into the moonrise, squeaking the story of how he escaped the horrible clutches of the deep rumbling giant with the cozy chill spots.
Later I went outside to smoke weed and as I sit down I hear the same chittering, I look up and holy shit. The lil guy came back, squeaked a few times and flew in circles, like he said hey thanks for letting me chill in your closet. I finished my joint and fucked off lmao. Wild fucking night

đŽ HEY I WANNA MAKE A GAME! đŽ
Yeah I getcha. I was once like you. Pure and naive. Great news. I AM STILL PURE AND NAIVE, GAME DEV IS FUN! But where to start?
To start, here are a couple of entry level softwares you can use! source: I just made a game called In Stars and Time and people are asking me how to start making vidy gaems. Now, without further ado:
SOFTWARES AND ENGINES FOR PEOPLE WHO DON'T KNOW HOW TO CODE!!!
Ren'py (and also a link to it if you click here do it): THE visual novel software. Comic artists, look no further â¨Pros: It's free! It's simple! It has great documentation! It has a bunch of plugins and UI stuff and assets for you to buy! It can be used even if you have LITERALLY no programming experience! (You'll just need to read the doc a bunch) You can also port your game to a BUNCH of consoles! â¨Cons: None really <3 Some games to look at: Doki Doki Literature Club, Bad End Theater, Butterfly Soup
Twine: Great for text-based games! GREAT FOR WRITERS WHO DONT WANNA DRAW!!!!!!!!! (but you can draw if you want) â¨Pros: It's free! It's simple! It's versatile! It has great documentation! It can be used even if you have LITERALLY no programming experience! (You'll just need to read the doc a bunch) â¨Cons: You can add pictures, but it's a pain. Some games to look at: The Uncle Who Works For Nintendo, Queers In love At The End of The World, Escape Velocity
Bitsy: Little topdown games! â¨Pros: It's free! It's simple! It's (somewhat) intuitive! It has great documentation! It can be used even if you have LITERALLY no programming experience! You can make everything in it, from text to sprites to code! Those games sure are small! â¨Cons: Those games sure are small. This is to make THE simplest game. Barely any animation for your sprites, can barely fit a line of text in there. But honestly, the restrictions are refreshing! Some games to look at: honestly I haven't played that many bitsy games because i am a fake gamer. The picture above is from Under A Star Called Sun though and that looks so pretty
RPGMaker: To make RPGs! LIKE ME!!!!! NOTE: I recommend getting the latest version if you can, but all have their pros and cons. You can get a better idea by looking at this post. â¨Pros: Literally everything you need to make an RPG. Has a tutorial inside the software itself that will teach you the basics. Pretty simple to understand, even if you have no coding experience! Also I made a post helping you out with RPGMaker right here! â¨Cons: Some stuff can be hard to figure out. Also, the latest version is expensive. Get it on sale! Some games to look at: Yume Nikki, Hylics, In Stars and Time (hehe. I made it)
engine.lol: collage worlds! it is relatively new so I don't know much about it, but it seems fascinating. picture is from Garden! NOTE: There's a bunch of smaller engines to find out there. Just yesterday I found out there's an Idle Game Maker made by the Cookie Clicker creator. Isn't life wonderful?
â¨more advice under the cut. this is Long okâ¨
ENGINES I KNOW NOTHING ABOUT AND THEY SEEM HARD BUT ALSO GIVE IT A TRY I GUESS!!!! :
Unity and Unreal: I don't know anything about those! That looks hard to learn! But indie devs use them! It seems expensive! Follow your dreams though! Don't ask me how!
GameMaker: Wuh I just don't know anything about it either! I just know it's now free if your game is non-commercial (aka, you're not selling it), and Undertale was made on it! It seems good! You probably need some coding experience though!!!
Godot: Man I know even less about this one. Heard good things though!
BUNCHA RANDOM ADVICE!!!!
-Make something small first! Try making simple: a character is in a room, and exits the room. The character can look around, decide to take an item with them, can leave, and maybe the door is locked and you have to find the key. Figuring out how to code something like that, whether it is as a fully text-based game or as an RPGMaker map, should be a good start to figure out how your software of choice works!
-After that, if you have an idea, try first to make the simplest version of that idea. For my timeloop RPG, my simplest version was two rooms: first room you can walk in, second room with the King, where a cutscene automatically plays and the battle starts, you immediately die, and loop back to the first room, with the text from this point on reflecting this change. I think I also added a loop counter. This helped me figure out the most important thing: Can This Game Be Made? After that, the rest is just fun stuff. So if you want to make a dating sim, try and figure out how to add choices, and how to have affection points go up and down depending on your choices! If you want to make a platformer, figure out how to make your character move and jump and how to create a simple level! If you just want to make a kinetic visual novel with no choices, figure out how to add text, and how to add portraits! You'll be surprised at how powerful you'll feel after having figured even those simple things out.
-If you have a programming problem or just get confused, never underestimate the power of asking Google! You most likely won't be the only person asking this question, and you will learn some useful tips! If you are powerful enough, you can even⌠Ask people??? On forums??? Not me though.
-Yeah I know you probably want to make Your Big Idea RIGHT NOW but please. Make a smaller prototype first. You need to get that experience. Trust me.
-If you are not a womanthing of many skills like me, you might realize you need help. Maybe you need an artist, or a programmer. So! Game jams on itch.io are a great way to get to work and meet other game devs that have different strengths! Or ask around! Maybe your artist friend secretly always wanted to draw for a game. Ask! Collaborate! Have fun!!!
I hope that was useful! If it was. Maybe. You'd like to buy me a coffee. Or maybe you could check out my comics and games. Or just my new critically acclaimed game In Stars and Time. If you want. Ok bye
#reference#gamedev#indie dev#game dev#tutorial#video game#ACTUAL GAME DEVS DO NOT INTERACT!!!1!!!!!#this is for people who are afraid of coding. do not come at me and say 'actually godot is easy if you just--' I JUST WILL NOT.#long post
