Exodauntia
I love Exodauntia!!! 😆 The idea of someone (Chen) wounded and struggling to escape popped up in my mind first, and everything else came after. I also love that the vampires have superpowers!
One thing that I try to keep consistent in my vamp fics are that they have no heat, and their touch is very icy. They also don’t have beating hearts so I always try to catch myself when I write something about their heartbeat.
[Tell me what fic my url reminds you of and I’ll tell you a secret about it]

What better way to celebrate Jongdae’s birthday than making a list of my favorite Jongdae fanfiction??
Tumblr media
look at him i love him
If you have been following my blog i am sure you’ve seen me gushing about @marshmallow-phd ’s works and especially the Untamed Wolf universe. The first work in this amazing unvverse is a Jongdae series,  “Fighting Instinct” . I wouldn’t be lying if I told you I think about this series every.single.day. I have read it 3 times already, and I will read it many more times in the future.
Staying in the wolf au section, @nunchiwrites ’s “Of Lemongrass and French Vanilla” is another favorite of mine. It has horror, action, romance.......i love it and you should love it too!
If you wanna read a vampire au, I just gotta suggest @kimjongdaely ’s “Exodauntia” and “My Pet Human” series. They are simply amazing.
Some other supernatural themed Jongdae series I highly recommend is @kollectionn ’s “Struck” - also a part of an epic universe, “The Other world chronicles” , @kpopfanfictrash ’s “Guardian” and @bvidzsoo’s “Thestral”
Looking for smut? @myeoning-call ’s “But you came” and @mattdaeo ’s “Beg for it” and “Teach you” are among my favorite.
As for soulmate aus, @forexcapism ’s “Tripartite” is just a m a z i n g . You should also check out @sopewriters ’s “La vie en rose” - so cute, this fic was love at first sight.
This list wouldn’t be complete without the queens of fluff - @whimsical-ness and her “Illicit” series - a forbidden love au - and @prettywordsyouleft with “The only choice” , an aranged marriage au - both of these fics make my heart sing!
I also have mention to @lunarexact ’s ( @pcyxiukai ) “Remember me” series - it’s not finished yet, they are 2 chapters published right now and I am in love with it.
I would love to hear your thoughts and your favorite jongdae fanfiction!!

Favorite exo fanfic writers? :)
OH BOY, I hope you’re ready.
I don’t always have a ton of time to read, but I definitely have some favorites when I do. I’m also going to list my fave fic of theirs because I can’t help it. 😊
In no particular order, here are the amazing writers:
(sorry in advance if I spell anything wrong)
@kpopfanfictrash (if you haven’t read Guardian wtf are you doing with your life?)
@kollectionn (Struck Jongdae is still in my head),
@nunchiwrites (don’t even get me started on Devil’s Advocate. in love with Nunchi’s vamp!yeol)
@yeolology (Pysch has fluff and humor that make me smile like an idiot)
@forexcapism (Tripartite was golddddddd)
@fantasies-from-nami (my heart is constantly hurting when I think of Split)
@suho-mochi (because everyone needs Junmyeon smut and fluff in their life, Incipient )
@soobadnoonecanstopher (2am is something I will never get over)
@thesammtimes (A Well Kept Secret just read it and you’ll understand)
@kimjongdaely (Exodauntia is new but so good. the audiobook part was awesome, so hush about having a ‘bad voice’)
I know I 100% forgot some people but this is off the top of my head so I will probably edit this eventually and add others. 💕💕💕
These writers are so amazing I just want to cry.

Exodauntia Note Challenge
Tumblr media
If you were here for Taken, you’ll know what this is.
Since Exodauntia is ending, I’m giving you—my lovely readers—a challenge!
Thank you all so, so much for reading. To those who have been reading my things for a while and those who are new here—thank you. I’m so incredibly grateful and blessed to have readers like you.
The challenge is for you to help me hit 100 notes for every chapter. It’s kind of a fun way for you guys to ‘earn’ the epilogue!
But of course, if it’s just impossible, I’ll abandon this idea and just upload the epilogue because I still love you guys 😅 I just think it might be fun to have a little challenge. (I mean it worked for Taken so...)
Chapter 7 - 86 notes
Chapter 8 - 77 notes
Chapter 9 - 74 notes
Chapter 11 - 80 notes
Chapter 12 - 81 notes

I’m thinking that since Exodauntia is almost done, maybe I should just finish it before I continue my other two fics
and I mean no one really read Gambling so...maybe I should focus on Exodauntia for now...

Exodauntia [Chapter 4]
Tumblr media
Vampire!AU
Pairing: Chen x Reader
Warnings: mention of blood, violence, and sexual situations.
Summary: You just wanted to help. But you accidentally saved someone you shouldn’t have, and now you’re running for your life while trying to help the person you saved execute his revenge plan, plummeting into a foreign world you never knew existed.
Audiobook + Prologue│Chapter 1│Chapter 2│Chapter 3│Chapter 4│ Chapter 5│Chapter 6│Chapter 7│Chapter 8│Chapter 9│Chapter 10│ Chapter 11│Chapter 12│Chapter 13│Epilogue
Snow falls harder the deeper you go into the forest, to the point it seems to turn into a blizzard. You hiss as the ice slaps against your cheeks as you try to keep them from entering your eyes. Your eyes are already watering at the biting cold.
You want to ask how much further. Your limbs are starting to lose their feeling and you feel as if you might collapse into the snow at any moment. But Jongdae is right next to you, one hand holding your arm to make sure you’re still there. You keep your mouth shut, because you don’t want to be a bigger burden than you already have.
“Hyung…Jongdae-hyung, look!” Jongin cries out in the screaming wind, gesturing wildly at you and Jongdae as he points into the center of the blizzard.
You squint your eyes to see what he’s looking at, but Jongdae seems to see it before you can and let’s go of you, rushing into the blizzard with Jongin.
“Wai—” You call, but your voice is drowned out. You push yourself to keep up, staggering in the icy snow.
When you finally make it past the blizzard and to the eye of the storm, you make out the slumped figure of a man. Jongin and Jongdae surround him, kneeling. “Hyung? Minseok-hyung? Are you alright?”
The man lifts his head at the voices, his eyes wide as he gazes at his two younger brothers. “J-Jongin? Jongdae?”
Immediately, the storm ceases. The wind stops blowing, the snow stops falling. You shiver, finally free from the bitter storm of ice.
“Yes, it’s us.” Jongdae smiles widely, tears in the corners of his eyes. “We were so worried about you. We were looking everywhere for you, hyung.”
“I—” Minseok pauses, gulping. “I missed you too. I thought…I thought you two didn’t make it.” A soft sob escapes his lips. The three brothers embrace, a happy reunion after a long year of separation.
Finally, Jongin speaks, “Where’s Junmyeon-hyung? Is he not with you?”
Minseok’s face immediately falls, pale and grim. “He…he didn’t make it.”
“What?” Jongdae gasps, eyes wide at the news. He chokes, “What…what do you mean?”
Minseok closes his eyes, his faces filled with sorrow. “I…When we were fighting the intruders of our kingdom, he…he was killed and I couldn’t save him.”
“No.” Jongin sobs, wiping furiously at his eyes as he tries to register what his brother just said. “No, no. It’s not true.”
“It is.” Minseok let’s out a shaky breath, standing up and dusting off the snow left on his clothes. He turns to Jongdae and places a hand on his shoulder. “Now that Junmyeon is gone, you’re the heir, Jongdae.”
Jongdae sucks in a breath sharply, eyes wide and glossy. “B-But I can’t…I don’t—” He sputters helplessly, all of this happening too quickly, too suddenly.
“I know it’s hard.” Minseok comforts him with a gentle squeeze. “But you have to, Jongdae. Exodauntia is counting on you.”
Jongdae sinks his teeth into his lower lip, his shoulders sagging at the sudden weight. But then he stands up straighter, authority rolling off him and he nods. “I understand, hyung.”
Minseok lets out a small smile. “Good.” He then turns, stopping in surprise when he sees you, still shivering from the cold. “W-Who’s this?”
“Oh!” Jongdae immediately comes to your side, putting a hand on your arm. “She’s…uh…”
“She’s a human.” Minseok bristles as he furrows his brows. “Jongdae, why—”
“She saved me, hyung.” Jongdae whispers, stepping in front of you as if to shield you from any harm. “Please, the enemies know her smell. They know she’s with us, so I can’t let her go back home or else they’ll kill her. Let her come with us, please.”
Minseok looks over you, scanning you, his eyes suddenly ice cold. You shake under the intensity, suddenly wanting nothing but to dig a hole in the snow and disappear.
Finally, Minseok nods and a small smile graces his face. “Okay. If you say so.”
He holds out a hand for a handshake. You look at Jongdae for reassurance. He smiles widely at you, nodding and nudging for you to take his hand. “This is my eldest brother, Kim Minseok.”
You take his hand, only to get taken aback by how cold it is. It’s at least ten times colder than Jongdae or Jongin’s, making you shiver harder than you had already.
“Hyung,” you hear Jongin say, slight panic in his tone. “She looks really pale—”
Your knees give out as Jongdae catches you. Their faces are blurred when they lean in to take a better look at you. You’re suddenly very sleepy, your eyes too heavy to keep open.
“She’s freezing.” Jongdae’s voice sounds faded as he talks to his brothers. “We have to get out of here.”
“Hold onto me.” Jongin grabs both his brothers, teleporting away.
You feel yourself grow light, but the world falls dark before you can land.
“She’s awake.” Jongin calls loudly towards the open door.
You blink, breathing out shakily, the ice still not completely gone from your bones. You glance over at Jongin who’s sitting in a chair next to your bed. You’re back in the mansion, in your room.
“How do you feel?” He asks just as Jongdae comes rushing in, a mug in his hands. He looks at you and he sighs in relief.
“I got you something warm to drink.” Jongdae says gently as he hands you the warm mug. You sigh at the feeling, warming your hands against the mug before you bring it to your lips, savoring the way it heats up your body. “You fainted back there in the Western Forest.”
“It must’ve been too cold for a human to endure.” Jongin says with a small, guilty pout. You smile at them, grateful for their worries.
“I’m fine now.” You assure them. “I feel much better.”
There’s a quiet knock on the door even though it’s open, Minseok standing sheepishly outside. “Can I come in now?”
“Jongdae-hyung wouldn’t let Minseok-hyung enter your room.” Jongin laughs. “He was afraid Minseok-hyung would lower the temperature here.”
“I won’t!” Minseok exclaims, his cheeks puffed out as he pouts. “I promise.”
“Okay.” Jongdae let’s out a grin as he motions for Minseok to join you. “Minseok-hyung, look after her for a moment, okay? Jongin and I will go make something for her to eat.”
“Sure.” Minseok chirps as Jongdae and Jongin stands up to leave.
The room becomes quiet suddenly without Jongdae and Jongin’s loud voices. You take a better look at Minseok; his hair is black, curling over his right eye. His face is rather pale, and his eyes are tinted blue-grey. “Can I ask you a question?”
He hums as he turns towards you, his eyes wide and catlike as a smile graces his face. “Sure.”
“You said Jongdae is the heir now.” You finger the rim of your mug. “Why is that? I thought you were the oldest, so why aren’t you the heir?”
Minseok leans back in his chair wistfully. “Well, you see, I’m not fitting to be king. I’m not really leader material. Junmyeon…” Minseok’s eyes darken at the mention of his brother’s name. “Junmyeon was a natural born leader. He was the heir, but since he’s gone, the next in line—which is Jongdae—will become heir.”
You let out a soft ‘oh,’ taking another long sip from your mug.
“Can I ask you a question now?” Minseok asks curiously with a wide smile.
“Okay.” You say nervously, wondering what he could possible want to know.
“Jongdae said you saved him.” Minseok seems to sit a little closer to you, his large eyes sparkling. “How?”
You hum lightly as you wonder how you should start. “Well, I find him unconscious in the middle of the small town I lived in. No one was helping him, so I decided to bring him back to my home.” You let out a small, shy giggle. “That’s it, really.”
“You’re a nice person.” Minseok remarks, making your cheeks flush at the compliment.
“We’re back!” Jongdae sings as he waltz in with a tray of something that smells delicious. “Hyung, you didn’t creep her out right?”
“I didn’t.” Minseok huffs, but smiles nonetheless.
“Hungry?” Jongin asks you, in which you nod vigorously, stomach growling.
“Here.” Jongdae sets the dray down over your legs on the bed. “Dinner in bed!”
You laugh at that, but accept the food eagerly. It’s oddly delicious, given that they don’t really eat. “Did you guys cook this? It’s really good!”
“Yep!” Jongin chirps proudly. “We know how to cook back when we were humans. We’re princes and all, but we liked hanging out in the kitchen so we learned a lot.”
“We don’t get to do a lot of cooking nowadays though.” Jongdae shrugs.
Jongin and Jongdae grab a few more chairs so they could sit in your room with you as you ate. They caught up on what happened in the past year that they had been separated. Jongin was busy teleporting through the entire forest looking for his brothers, almost bumping into their enemies a few times. Minseok spent a long time mourning over Junmyeon’s death as they were quite close. He was also searching for Jongin and Jongdae.
“So the mansion was in the East.” Minseok lets out a soft laugh. “No wonder I couldn’t find it. I was stuck in the West.”
“Seems like we were all over the place.” Jongdae smiles at his brothers, the room suddenly quieting down. “It’s good that we were able to find each other in the end.”
“Yeah,” Jongin nods before he sighs softly. They still aren’t over the death of their brother, the news too shocking to just move on from. “So…now what? What should we do?”
“Get back our kingdom, of course.” Jongdae states.
“Do you have a plan?” Minseok asks, in which Jongdae let’s out a sheepish smile.
“Uh…not really…”
“There’s only three of us right now.” Jongin points out worriedly. “You think we can take back the kingdom with just us?”
“We’ll need to find backup…somehow.” Jongdae states with a grimace. “But it might not be as hard as we thought, since most of our enemy’s army are humans.”
“Didn’t go so well last time.” Jongin shivers at the memory. “With guns and tanks and whatnot. Gosh, the modern era is so terrifying.”
“That’s true.” Minseok pipes up. “We can’t just depend on our powers anymore. Sure, we might have an advantage over humans, but not over other vampires. We need weapons too…and backup.”
“Wait.” You squeak, interrupting their conversation. “Exodauntia was taken over 500 hundred years ago. So what…what happened a year ago?”
“Well,” Jongdae turns to Minseok for help at explaining. Minseok then realizes that you don’t know anything despite tagging along with them, and sighs. “Yes, we were invaded 500 years ago, which ultimately killed all of us. Yet we were turned into Pureblood vampires. Everyday since then we’ve been trying to take back our kingdom. Many of the remaining people of our enemies also got turned into vampires. They’re still controlling our kingdom, although there’s really nothing left of it to rule.” A low growl vibrates through Minseok’s chest at the thought. “They completely turned our once beautiful kingdom into ruins.”
“Yes.” Jongdae nods as he continues. “We were never successful at taking back the kingdom. Whoever we had left in our army were killed in our many battles, until it was just the three of us left.” Jongdae closes his eyes as he mourns over the death of their men.
“They have too many vampires on their side.” Jongin adds bitterly. “But until we die, we’ll fight for our home.”
You mull over their words, trying to picture what it’s like to fight over and over for 500 years to no avail. To lose so many friends in battle, to lose their own brother. Vampires may be much stronger than humans could ever dream to be, but when put against other vampires, they’re equal. Vampires can still be killed, can still die. Every battle is a risk.
“Hey,” Jongdae sees your solemn face and places a hand on your shoulder, giving it a light squeeze of comfort. “It’s going to be okay. This time—this time for sure we’re going to win. I won’t let anything happen to you, okay? I promised.”
“Okay,” Jongin waves a hand. “But does anyone who come to mind when we think of backups?” Jongin asks his hyungs defeatedly.
“Actually,” Minseok and Jongdae exchange grins. “We do.”
It takes only a second for Jongin to catch on, letting out a low groan. “Not them.”
“Yes them.” Minseok confirms, his grin only growing wider.
“Who?” You ask, completely clueless as Jongdae and Minseok revel in their idea while Jongin continues to shake his head with protests.

Exodauntia [Chapter 3]
It’s still dark when you wake up, but you suppose it’s never bright in the middle of this forest.
You hear a soft echo—a voice, you realize.
Someone’s singing.
You push yourself off the bed and tiptoe to the opposite wall, pressing your ear flat against it.
You hear it.
A gentle tune, a voice who sings such sad and longing notes. You listen, feeling tears sting your eyes as you hear the loneliness of the melody. And yet it’s so beautiful, touching your heart deeply and making old repressed memories resurface.
Who’s singing?
You quickly make your way out of the room to the room next door, not even registering who’s room this is. You enter without thinking and freeze when you lay your eyes on Jongdae. He’s sitting on his windowsill, his right leg planted on the floor and his left dangling over the windowsill, his body turned to face the view outside, but now he looks at you with wide, surprised eyes.
“Oh.” You breathe, your heart thumping wildly. “I’m sorry, it’s just that I heard you singing, so—”
“It’s okay.” He smiles, hopping off and taking a step towards you. “Did you sleep well?”
You nod, heat rushing to your cheeks as you look down. You don’t trust yourself to speak; you feel so embarrassed. How could you just burst into someone else’s room like that?
A clap of thunder reverberates and you yelp in surprise.
“Sorry.” Jongdae immediately mumbles, hanging his head. “This area is rather stormy. I try to keep enemies away.” He shifts uncomfortably on his feet, still refusing to meet your eyes. “Are you…scared of lightning?”
You blink at the question in surprise. “No.” You say immediately. “I was just surprised.”
He seems to lighten up slightly at that, but then he purses his lips and whispers, “Then are you scared of vampires?”
You pause, taken aback by his sudden question. “Well,” you start cautiously, scared you might upset him, “not vampires, per se, but the idea of being bitten by a vampire scares me.”
His eyes darts to the floor again, shame evident on his face. “Right.”
“Jongdae—” You try to say, to comfort him and tell him that you aren’t scared of him. You know he would never hurt you.
But do you really know that?
Your throat constricts and no words come out. You avert your eyes, knowing you are scared. You want to go home, you want this to be nothing but a bad dream.
And then, in a horrible epiphany, you realize you wish you never saved him that day.
“Let’s go.” Jongdae whispers, bringing you back to reality. His arm brushes past yours as he walks by, and it makes you shiver.
You hang your head as you follow him to the living room. Jongin is already sitting there, sipping on something tinted red and you don’t dare ask what it is.
“Jongin,” Jongdae greets with a quick nod before taking a seat next to him. Unsure what to do, you follow him and sit across from them. “Did you find anything?”
“No.” Jongin shakes his head, a dejected sigh leaving his lips. “I went all over the country. I asked anyone and everyone who might know. No one saw them.”
Jongdae seems to wilt at that, slumping forward in his seat.
You look between them, slightly confused. “What are you talking about?”
“Ah,” Jongin flashes you a tight smile. “Our brothers. I often teleport to different places in hopes to find a clue as to where they are, but it’s been a whole year and I still haven’t found anything.”
“Well,” the corners of Jongdae’s lips lift up hopefully, just a little. “It has only been a year.”
“True,” Jongin nods before another long sigh escapes his lips. “We’ve spent much longer as a vampire than that.”
They brood in silence for a long moment, and you keep your mouth shut as you glance between them, unsure what to do or say. You feel so out of place here, feeling as if you don’t even exist anymore.
Jongdae suddenly jolts up, a wide grin blooming on his face. “I got it!”
“What?” Jongin stares at his brother with furrowed brows.
Jongdae seems excited as he bounces on the soles of his feet, an idea appearing in his mind. “We can go find him!”
“Him?” Jongin seems to catch on, even though you look at them blankly. “We haven’t seen him in centuries though. And also, he’s too young for his kind; can he really help?”
“I’m sure he can.” Jongdae nods vigorously, a new shine of determination in his dark eyes. “Other than you, he’s the only one who might be able to receive information from all over the world.”
“We can try.” Jongin still seems skeptical, but he stands up to follow Jongdae to the front door.
“Wait!” You jump up, panic washing over you. “Where are you going? What about me?”
“We’re going to find an old friend!” They call back at you. “You can come if you want, but the house will protect you too.”
You shiver as the darkness seems to grow stronger, the light following them out the door. Thunder claps outside and lightning flashes. The house seems to grow several degrees colder.
You quickly catch up to them, not wanting to be left alone in this place. It doesn’t matter where they’re going or what they’re doing; you feel better around someone.
Jongdae seems to smile as he waits for you by the door, the corners of his eyes crinkling slightly. Lightning snakes over the door in angry zaps once it closes shut, locking itself from intruders.
“Ready?” Jongin asks, albeit slightly unwillingly. Jongdae nods before glancing over at you, and Jongin follows. You gulp as you nod as well, sure they’re about to teleport again.
Jongin grabs your and Jongdae’s hand, closing his eyes. You try to focus on breathing as you mentally prepare yourself for the trip. Teleporting does not feel particularly nice, although you must admit it’s quite efficient.
The feeling of free-falling returns, your heart jumping to your throat as a wave of dizziness washes over you.
It lasts merely for a millisecond, and when you blink you find yourself in a grassy plain, a strong wind whipping through your hair, making it fly everywhere, ticking your face. You bundle your hair and hold it into a makeshift ponytail with your hand, hoping it will stop bothering you. The grass reaches your knees, swaying strongly in the direction of the wind.
You wince as the wind dries your eyes, making them sting and glaze with tears. You vaguely make out the figure of a man standing a few paces away, unaffected by everything around him.
“Sehun!” Jongdae calls, cupping his mouth in hopes his voice will travel better as the wind screams over him. “Sehun!”
The man seems to realize he has visitors, and with a raise of his hand, the wind immediately ceases.
Your eyes widen in surprise as Jongdae pulls you along to the man—Sehun, while Jongin follows with a small scowl on his face.
“Jongdae?” Sehun asks with a raised brow, obviously surprised to see him here. “What brings you to me?”
“We need your help.” Jongdae says, his tone strained with desperation.
You turn to Jongin who still looks at Sehun distastefully. “Who is this?”
“Sehun.” Jongin practically bites. “Wind spirit. He can control the wind, and can disappear along with it.”
“Wind spirit?” You repeat drearily, your eyes returning to the man in front of you. You’ve received too many surprises in the last two days to even be surprised. If vampires exists, you suppose it makes sense for wind spirits to exist as well.
You glance over him. He’s tall, taller than Jongdae, practically the same height as Jongin as they glower at each other.
“Hyung, I don’t understand why we’re here,” Jongin grumbles, crossing his arms over his chest, his tone bitter. “He’s too young, practically a baby.”
Sehun narrows his eyes on Jongin, his lip twitching in distaste. “Says you, a former human.” The corners of his lips slowly lift to reveal a scornful smile. “You are still merely a weak little human no matter how long and sharp your teeth become.”
That seems to tick Jongin off as he growls, almost lunging for Sehun’s throat if Jongdae didn’t hold him down. “Enough, Jongin. We came here to ask for help, and that’s not how one asks for favors.”
“Jongdae,” Sehun’s lips curl up. “Always the more sensible one.” A small breeze blows now, and you let your hair down as it no longer runs wild. You see the way the breeze brushes Jongdae’s bangs out of his eyes, revealing his smooth forehead, his face calm and collected.
Sehun turns to Jongdae fully, his eyes filled with curiosity. “So, what brings you two to me, Your Highness?”
Jongdae’s lip twitches but does not comment on the formality Sehun used, instead he lets out a soft sigh, dragging his hand through his now messy hair. “Sehun, the wind must tell you a lot of things. Please, tell me if you have any news of my brothers. We are looking for them desperately.”
“Your brothers.” Sehun repeats, his eyes drooping until they are half-lidded. “If I remember correctly, Kim Junmyeon of water and Kim Minseok of ice, yes?”
Jongdae’s head bobs in affirmation, his teeth sinking into his bottom lip with anticipation. The breeze grows slightly stronger around you, almost restless as Sehun completely closes his eyes, his perfect brows furrowed as he concentrates.
“They whisper.” He mumbles. “The wind whispers of unusual snow in the West. Odd, for snow to fall at this time of the year here.”
“Snow.” Jongdae’s eyes widen as he repeats the word, carefully as if it holds all the secrets of the world, and will cease to be if he said it too loudly. “Hyung. It must be Minseok-hyung.”
Jongin seems to stiffen next to you, and when you glance at him, his eyes are wide with surprise and a flicker—a flicker of hope. “The West, you said?”
Sehun nods, his eyes reopening and the wind ceasing around him. “Yes. That is all the wind has told me. I hope that was useful to you.”
“Yes,” Jongdae says, his voice almost a squeal as he seems too excited, his body restless as it paces. “Yes, yes, yes. Thank you so much, Sehun. You have helped us more than enough.”
“If it’s true.” Jongin adds softly, looking away and feigning interest in the trees in the far distance when Jongdae turns to shoot him a glare.
“Jongin,” Jongdae turns to his brother, his tone a soft warning of his previous behavior, but more than that, it’s filled with exhilaration. “Can you take us there?”
“There’s no exact address though.” Jongin points out wearily. “It will be difficult to find him regardless.”
“At least we’ve narrowed the area down.” Jongdae urges, the twinkle in his eyes hard to rid of now that he sees a new spark of hope. “We’ll find him, even if we need to search the entire area by foot.”
Jongin hesitates, his eyes flickering over to Sehun who merely smiles, before disappearing with the wind like a mini tornado, picking up grass and dirt as he rises into the grey skies, dispersing into nothing.
Jongin’s eyes stare at the sky for a moment longer before nodding, almost absentmindedly before it becomes stronger, refocusing on his brother’s determined face. “Let’s go.”
Jongdae smiles, his lips curling like the mouth of a cat as he smiles, the corners of his eyes crinkling just the slightest bit. His smile makes you want to smile too, despite not knowing exactly what they were talking about. Reuniting them with their brothers is a good thing, and you’re glad you’re with them witness it.
Jongin holds his hand out for Jongdae to grab onto before turning towards you, reaching out for you as well. You smile at him before you give him your hand, closing your eyes and waiting for him to teleport you away again.
You stomach lurches upwards as if you were falling from a rollercoaster, and you know you can now open your eyes. Your third teleport, and you feel like you might be able to get used to the weightless feel soon.
You look around, finding yourself in the forest again, but you shiver as a wave of iciness washes over you. You wrap your arms around yourself, watching your breath fog up in the air. You glance over towards Jongdae and Jongin, but they both seem unaffected by the cold. They don’t seem to notice you freezing either as they busily scan the area, their eyes glowing a soft red.
You wonder how far vampires can see, wonder if they even see the world the same way as you do.
You squint your eyes as you try to see through the thick mass of nothing but trees, the darkness that continues to consume the place, as if the entire forest was made of shadows itself.
“It’s snowing.” Jongin breathes, his eyes fixated on the sky above him and you open your palms, feeling tiny snowflakes land on them, stealing a bit of warmth from your body each time.
“You’re cold.” It wasn’t a question, you realize just as you’re about to answer, but Jongdae already knows. He drapes his jacket over you, and although it’s thin, it’s warm against your skin. “Better?”
You nod, pulling his jacket tighter against your shivering body. You wonder how it can feel this warm when his body is as cold as the snow drifting gently past you.
Jongin opens his palms to catch a few flakes as well, his eyes softening as he gazes at the sight. “Minseok-hyung. He must be near.”
Jongdae nods in agreement, turning towards you and motioning you to take his hand, opened just for you. “Let’s go. It will be bad if you get separated from us.”
Jongin bobs his head in a nod as he walks first, his pace quicker than you remember, probably from urgency to find his brother. “This is the West, so if you get lost here it will be very troubling for us. We don’t know this area well.”
You nod as you hold onto Jongdae’s hand a little tighter, feeling his cold skin slowly warm from yours.
It is odd, for it to be snowing like this, and it seems to only grow colder the deeper you go.

Yay, another Exodauntia chapter! I had my suspiscions on Yixing this entire chapter and aparently Y/N did too. But I'm not entirely sure he's the traitor, it just feels like too much of an obvious option... Anyway, loved the update!
It might be a bit too obvious…but I mean, you can’t deny that Yixing was a bit weird. If you had to choose, who do you think the traitor is? 😉Thanks for reading anonie!

You’re freaking out. In the middle of a major panic attack. Sorry? Why is he saying sorry?
“No, no, no. Chen, please don’t die on me. Don’t sleep.” Your arms tightens around his freezing body as a sob makes its way to your throat. No, you don’t want to be left alone in this dark, cold place. You don’t want to roam the forest by yourself and die here.
No. You’re going to make it out. Both of you will make it out.
“Chen?” You ask, your voice ringing in the dark. You jump at a flash of lightning, thunder roaring loudly a few moments later. It seems like it’s going to start raining soon. Chen doesn’t answer, his breathing barely audible now. “Chen? Don’t scare me. Chen?”
You shake him, but he doesn’t move. You lean in, trying to hear his breathing, placing your hand on his chest to feel his pulse.
Your blood runs cold to find that there is none.
You almost cry. Tears sting your eyes as a whole other wave of panic hits you. He’s dead? No, he can’t be.
“Chen,” you sob, shaking his arm and digging your nails into his skin in hopes that pain might bring him to. “Chen, no. Open your eyes, please! Talk to me.” You press your forehead against his forearm, another flash of lightning brightening the hole for a second. “Don’t leave me.”
“Are you okay?”
You jump at a foreign voice, your head snapping up to see a man standing at the entrance of the opening, the leaves that previously kept the place hidden are now gone.
Relief immediately washes over you, tears falling down your cheeks at the thought of help. “He—He…My friend, I think he’s sick. His heart…stopped.” You sob harder, trying to wipe away your hot tears. “Please help him, please.”
The man’s eyes flickers over the Chen, his eyes darkening. “Don’t worry, he’s not dead. Come out first.”
He holds his hand for you, and you take it as he helps you out. You sniff as you watch the man pull Chen out carefully, whimpering as you see how pale he’s become.
The man lays Chen on the grass floor, inspecting him some more. You stand there anxiously, feeling time tick away.
“Can you help him?” You whisper, so quiet you’re not sure if he heard you. But he nods, turning towards you with a comforting smile.
“I think you should look away though.” He says. “Just for a few minutes.”
Confused, you turn your body so your back is facing them. You hear shuffling immediately after.
Why doesn’t he want me to see?
Feeling like something’s wrong, you peak over your shoulder and let out an inaudible gasp at the sight. Chen has his face buried in the man’s shoulder, blood seeping out.
Is…Is Chen biting that man?
You watch in horror as Chen retracts, his breathing heavy and lips covered in red. The man leans back, seemingly unaffected by the fact that he was just bitten. He looks sad when he sighs and turn towards you. “I thought I told you not to look.”
“I—” Your knees buckle and you want to run, but you find that you no longer have the strength. “What just happened?”
“I’m sorry.” Chen is the one to speak, his voice quiet and soft. “I shouldn’t have stayed with you…I shouldn’t have dragged you here. I’m sorry.”
“I don’t understand.” You whisper, disbelief washing over you. Strangely though, you find that you’re not scared. It’s as if you don’t trust what you just saw.
Chen lets out a soft sigh, his dark eyes trained on you. “Let me reintroduce myself. My name is Kim Jongdae. This is my younger brother, Kim Jongin.”
“B-Brothers?” You look between the two men, utterly confused. “Kim Jongdae? W-What’s Chen then?”
“Chen,” he starts, a tight smile on his lips. “Is a name I use in emergencies. To keep my identity hidden.”
“The reason why he was amnesic for the past year is self-protection. It’s a natural defense mechanism we have, I guess.” Jongin explains.
Seeing your perplexed face, Jongdae lets out a small, tight smile, exhaling. “Do you know about Exodauntia?”
You cock your head at the sudden change of topic. “Exodauntia? You mean the ruined kingdom?”
He bobs his head ‘yes.’ “Do you know its story?”
“Of course. It’s a story that almost everyone around here knows.” You furrow your brows, your lips tugging into a frown. “Why?”
His smile grows wider, almost ominous. “Well, Jongin and I…we’re two of the four princes that once ruled Exodauntia.”
There's a pause.
You try to register his words.
Him…one of the princes of Exodauntia…?
You laugh. “Wha—That’s not possible! Do you know how many years its been since  Exodauntia fell to ruins? 500 years! You can’t possible still be alive if you really were the prince…”
Your light tone fades when he see the look on their faces. A knowing look.
Jongdae’s smile grows ever wider, his usually dark eyes now glowing an inhumane red. His fangs peak out from his curled lips.
You shiver. “N-No way…Y-You’re a—”
“Vampire.” He nods. “Yes.”
You scream.
You scramble from where you were sitting and immediately run, run as far away as you can. You don’t care where you’re going. You don’t care if you get even more lost in the forest. You want to get away from them, from those monsters.
Your lungs burn again, lightning snaking through the dark clouds above, thunder rumbling and shaking the earth. You don’t sense anyone following you, and you’re certain you ran far enough.
But then in a flash, Jongin is in front of you again, his hands tight around your wrist. You scream at the top of your lungs, begging for someone, anyone to save you.
Jongdae appears behind you and his hand comes swiftly to cover your mouth, his skin cold as ice against you.
“Sh…” His breath whistles in your ear. “We won’t hurt you, I promise.”
You don’t believe him, of course. How can you trust a vampire? But you stay still and wait for them to release you. When they do, you try to bolt again, but Jongdae grabs your arm before you can, holding you still.
“Let me go!” You thrash against his strong hold, but he doesn’t even flinch. You soon realize what you’re doing it futile. “Please, please let me go. I—My blood doesn’t taste good! I don’t taste good so please, just let me go.”
Something changes in Jongdae’s eyes. They grow sadder, almost hurt. His hold on you loosens. “You…You don’t trust me, do you?”
“Hyung,” Jongin suddenly interjects, his voice alert. Jongdae stops, as if listening for something before a low growl escapes his lips. You jump as a flash of lightning hits the ground several meters away.
“We have to go.” Jongdae says stiffly, his eyes coming to look at you again. “I know…I know it’s hard to trust a vampire. I know you feel scared and threatened, but you have to come with us. They know your scent already, know you’re with us. If we leave you alone they’ll kill you.” He tugs at your arm, almost pleading, and you give in.
“Who’s ‘they’?” You ask as they break into a run, with you reluctantly following. “Why are we running?”
“Enemies.” He answers. “The people who destroyed Exodauntia so many years ago. They know we’re coming…they’re trying to kill us before we take back our kingdom.”
“Hyung, we won’t make it far with this pace.” Jongin tells Jongdae, distaste written all over his face. It’s obvious he doesn’t like running.
Jongdae grits his teeth, nodding once curtly, before he turns around and to your utter surprise, picks you up. “Wha—”
In an instant, his speed increases inhumanely, running so fast the trees around you blur together into the wind. The air is pushed out from your lungs from the pressure and you clutch onto him tighter, wanting some leverage.
After a few moments, he comes to a stop. You think you’re already several kilometers away.
“Can we do it here?” Jongdae asks his brother, not even out of breath. Jongin nods and you were about to ask what they’re talking about when Jongin grabs Jongdae’s hand.
You don’t understand what’s happening, but suddenly you feel light, lighter than air. Something feels strange, as if all of your cells are breaking apart and reassembling. A tingling sensation spreads around your body, almost an itch.
When it fades, you blink to find yourself in front of a large mansion located in a clearing deep in the forest.
You’re shaky when Jongdae lets you down and you almost collapse if it weren’t for him holding you up.
“Are you okay?” He asks gently as he looks at you with concern.
You force out a sarcastic laugh. “No. Of course not.”
Jongdae cracks a grin before he makes his way to the door, electricity bursting from his hand the second he touches it. A moment later, he pushes the door open. “We can enter now.”
Jongin allows you to enter first before he follows, closing the door behind him. The mansion is beautiful, exquisite, luxurious, covered in the finest designs. But it’s dark, oddly so. The entire forest seems to be covered in ominous clouds.
“Is this…your house?” You ask the brothers as you carefully follow Jongdae through a long hallway.
“Yes.” He answers. “It’s hidden and protected, so we’re safe here.”
“Just now,” you look over your shoulder to meet Jongin’s eyes. “What happened? One second we were in the middle of the forest, the next we’re in front of the mansion.”
“Teleportation.” Jongin answers casually, almost proud. “I can do that.”
“What?” You sputter, stopping in your steps to stare wide-eyed at Jongin. “Y-You have superpowers?”
Jongin let’s out a humorous chuckle. “All vampires have some kind of power. They vary depending on the person. Of course, only Purebloods have such power. Those who were Turned do not.”
“What’s yours?” You turn towards Jongdae who pushes open a set of large double doors to reveal the living room.
“Lightning.” He answers, a mischievous smile on his face and right on cue, lightning hits the ground outside the mansion, making you jump. He then motions towards the living room, “Have a seat. We need to talk.”
You grimace as you sit. ‘We need to talk’ is never a good thing. Besides, you feel like you’ve learned plenty of things today already. It’s a bit too much for your very human mind to wrap around.
“I feel like you have some questions for us.” Jongdae states as he sits across from you, Jongin next to him.
“Yes.” You take a deep breath, trying to collect your thoughts, wondering what you should ask first. “How did you become vampires? You said you were Purebloods…”
“Yes, well.” Jongdae frowns. “We weren’t Turned, that’s for sure. When we were in battle to defend our kingdom…we died. Surely we died back then.”
“When we woke up,” Jongin continues. “We were no longer human. We no longer had a beating heart, couldn’t feel warmth. We were different. We were stronger, our senses keener, gained powers.”
“We’re not so sure how it happened either.” Jongdae clasps his hands and leans back, a sad smile on his face. “But alas, here we are. Pureblood vampires.”
“When you were staying with me,” you start. “You were warm. You had a pulse. You were human—at least, you felt like one. Why…why was that?”
“As Jongin said before, it’s like a defense mechanism we have.” Jongdae answers. “When we’re in immense danger and have no way to protect ourselves, our body turns momentarily human—since we were human before. We lose memory of being a vampire in case we blurt something out. It’s to hide our identity long enough for us to recover.”
“It happens very rarely though.” Jongin adds, glancing at his brother. “Very.”
Jongdae cracks an apologetic smile at his brother before turning to you again. “Any more questions?”
“One more.” You sit up straighter, your eyes flickering between brothers. “Where are your other brothers? There’s four of you, right?”
They both grow uneasy at the question, glancing at each other. “To be honest, we were separated until today as well. I’ve been looking for him for an entire year!” Jongin glares at Jongdae who merely laughs. “And to think he’s been hiding at a human’s place this entire time.”
“So to answer your question: we have no idea. We’re hoping we’ll meet them along the way, but we don’t even know if they’re dead or alive.”
“Vampires can die?” You blurt out before you could think and both of them turn to look at you before bursting out laughing.
Heat creeps to your cheeks at their outburst as you shrink in embarrassment.
“Yes, love. Vampires die.” Jongdae lets out a few final chuckles. “But only by a special metal. If it pierces our hearts, we die.”
You let the thought sink in, realizing that ‘vampires’ aren’t as invincible as you thought they were. They’re the undead, but they can still die.
Jongdae stands up abruptly, a bright new smile gracing his face. “Shall I take you to your room now? Humans need sleep, right?”
“Yeah.” You nod, standing to follow him, Jongin waves you goodnight with a smile, and you timidly wave back.
Jongdae leads you up the spiraling staircase to the right where several rooms align the wall. He stops at one and opens the door for you. “This will be your room. My room is the one next door to the left and Jongin’s is the one next to that.” Jongdae flashes you a gentle smile, a smile he often gave you when he stayed with you. “You can come in anytime you want. We don’t, uh, really sleep, after all.”
You smile, but from the way his face falls you know your smile isn’t convincing in the least. You can’t bring yourself to be happy at the situation at all. You decide that it’s probably normal, since this isn’t where you belong: in a mansion in the middle of a dark forest with two vampires.
He touches your arm gently, his cold fingers making you shiver. He realizes and quickly pulls away, his eyes slightly sad. “I know…this is a lot to take in. I’m really grateful that you saved me back then so I’ll protect you with my life. I promise. I won’t let anything hurt you.”
Something in his eyes tells you he means more than that, but you nod.
His gaze softens, his lips curl into a small smile. “I’ll always be that Chen. I promise.”
You smile, genuinely. “Chen is still Kim Jongdae. I’m sure you’re the same person no matter what name you carry.” You don’t know why you said that, but you meant every word.
The smile on his face is beautiful when he whispers goodnight.

You grew up in a very conserved environment. Your family is influential. Both your parents work for the government, so you were mostly alone in your childhood. When you turned eighteen, you insisted to move out of the big city and to a small little down quite a distance from your home.
You wanted to start over in a different place, to be yourself. Not the ‘daughter of the two government officials.’ You wanted to just be normal.
But even when you moved out, your parents bought a huge mansion for you, hiring several maids and butlers to tend to your everything. The only friend you really had was your personal maid, Nana, who was with you for basically your entire life.
And that’s it.
Even when you moved out, you were still kept under high surveillance. Nana was softer on you, but still made sure you were a ‘proper lady’ as not to shame your parents. It was just how life was like for you.
That day you were on your way home from an art class you took as a hobby when you saw a large commotion in the middle of town. A crowd of people were huddled together, mumbling to each other and seemingly very distressed.
Curious, you pulled Nana over to see what was happening. You squeezed your way through the many bodies, your eyes widening as you see a figure slumped on the concrete.
A man with dark hair and extremely pale skin laid on the floor, sweat caked on his forehead. He looked like he was in pain, but no one seems to take the initiative to help him.
Gritting your teeth, you motioned for Nana to help you as you make your way over, patting his cold cheek gently in attempt to wake him. “Hey, hey! Wake up! Are you okay? Mister?”
There’s no response.
Worried, you looked around for help, but everyone was merely standing and watching you. You and Nana grabbed his arms to hoist him up, both of you having his arms around your shoulders. “We need to get you to a doctor.”
Your house is nearby, so you stumbled your way a few blocks. You and Nana struggled to carry this man, but somehow you did and once you enter your house, immediately your other servants lifted him off of you and to a guest room. Nana rung up a doctor quickly, and he comes hastily to give the man a check.
“Probably exhaustion.” The doctor says after a thorough check, putting his equipment back into his briefcase. “I initially thought it looked like loss of blood since his shirt is covered in blood, but I couldn’t find any external injuries,” he presses his hand against the man’s forehead. “He’s heating up. I’ll give him some fever medicine and let him rest for a bit. If it worsens, call me.”
You nod gratefully at him, bowing as he leaves. You give Nana a worried glance, but she merely shrugs and went back to her usual chores.
Three days later he wakes up with no memory of where he’s from, why he was there, how he collapsed. The only thing he remembers is the name Chen, which he thinks is his own but he’s not sure.
It’s been a year since then. You let him stay with you since he had nowhere to go, and since your parents lived away from you, there were no worries there. You’ve grown quite fond of him. He’s gentle and kind but also fun to be around.
But you wonder if he’ll ever regain his memories. Surely he must have a family waiting for him, a place that he should return to.
And it might be selfish of you, but deep inside you wish he would never leave. After all, you’ve been alone since forever.
You don’t try to dwell on the thought that one day he’s going to go back to where he belongs, leaving you all alone again.
“Chen!” You yell as you wear your sneakers and smooth out your shirt. You’ve decided to go out with casual clothes today, something you weren’t really ‘allowed’ to do, being the ‘lady of the house’ and all. But honestly, you’re an adult now so you can do whatever you want. “Hurry up! Let’s go!”
Chen stumbles down the stairs in a hurry, trying to tuck his shirt into his black jeans so it doesn’t look too oversized. You giggle at his frantic look, waving him over. “Come on, let’s go.”
He slips into his shoes and follows you out the door.
You’ve been sneaking out with Chen a lot lately. You were never allowed to go out without Nana, but ever since Chen came, you decided you would be fine going out on your own.
You breathe in the fresh air, the warm sunlight warming your skin. You love going out, more so because you couldn’t before.
You pull Chen along to town where they were holding a small fair. Crowds of people bustle around, and you love it. You love meeting new people, seeing new things. You love being in places with a lot of people because it makes you feel normal, makes you feel less alone.
“Hey, let’s go over there!” You point to a stall selling cupcakes and pull Chen over, and even in your excitement you can tell something’s off with Chen today.
He seems oddly nervous and fidgety as he follows you. You turn to him with furrowed brows, pulling him closer so you can ask over the noise, “Are you okay?”
His eyes are dilated, and something is obviously wrong, but he nods and says he’s fine. You frown, but decide to accept his answer. Maybe you’re just being overly sensitive.
You sweep over the cute cupcakes that are on display, the sweet smell instantly lifting your mood. You were just deciding on which one to buy when Chen grabs your arm, so tightly it makes you wince. “Chen?”
“We have to go.” He says urgently, pulling you away forcefully. “Now.”
“What?” You stumble after him, trying to catch up with his incredible speed. “What happened?”
He looks around, his expression becoming more nervous by the second and starts jogging through the crowd of people.
“Chen?” You call after him, his hold on you tight so you don’t get separated. You feel suffocated suddenly, so many people bumping into you and pushing you. His hold on you hurts, a painful burn, and you want to shake him off but you can’t. You feel your lungs constricting as he continues to pull you, and suddenly you want to scream.
Finally, you make it out of the crowd and you breathe a breath of fresh air, so glad to have some space to yourself. Chen’s hand is still tight around your wrist. “Chen, what’s wrong?”
You see him wince before letting out a low growl, cursing under his breath. You’ve never heard him curse before. He turns towards you, his eyes darker than you remember. “Run.”
“Wha—?” You don’t have time to react before he pulls you again, speeding into a run as he takes you farther and farther from the crowd of people. Your body is obviously not ready as you stumble after him, wishing he would let go of you already. You can’t possibly keep up with his speed, and you feel like you’re going to fall any minute.
What is he running from anyways?
It’s too late when you realize he’s leading you to the forest at the edge of town. It’s a forest filled with wild rumors and myths about going in and never returning. You’re pretty sure it’s just superstition about a ‘curse’ or ‘monsters’ lurking in it, but you’re pretty sure it’s not impossible to get lost in it.
“Wait! Chen!” You scream on the top of your lungs in hopes he’ll hear you and listen. “Stop! Where are you going?”
He doesn’t answer, but you’re sure he heard you. He doesn’t slow down and instead speeds right into the forest, dragging you with him.
You’re sure it’s in the middle of the day, but the second you enter the forest, everything is dark. Your eyes take a while to adjust to the new darkness, your feet stumbling on several tree roots and fallen branches.
As you race by, you’re sure you see faces in the trunks around you, branches that reach for you like bony hands. You shiver and even though you’re sweating, you’re freezing. You feel a chill deep in your bones, eating you out.
You’re scared. Terrified.
But Chen doesn’t slow down.
It feels like you’ve been running for hours. Your lungs are burning and sweat drips into your eyes, blurring your sight. Your breathing is ragged, and you can taste metallic blood in the back of your throat.
“S-Stop…” You wheeze as you try to get Chen to stop. “I-I can’t—”
And finally, he does stop.
He slows down and you gasp behind him, trying to catch your breath. Your legs are shaky and you feel like you’re going to collapse any second. Oxygen isn’t getting properly to your lungs as blood rushes to your head, making you dizzy.
Chen looks around, analyzing his surroundings before he takes your wrist again, this time gently. “This way.”
He leads you to the right, trudging through dead leaves and uneven grounds. Thank goodness he’s not running anymore, because you’re pretty sure you’re going to faint if you have to run again.
You hear thunder rumble overhead, and it’s strange because it was sunny just a second ago. But then again, you don’t know how long you’ve been running. You don’t know how deep into the forest you’re in.
You shiver again at the thought, trying to walk closer to Chen. He’s the only other person here, and it’s terrifying to think about the possibility of getting separated from him.
He leads you to a large tree, a hole made underneath by its roots. Chen motions towards it. “Get in.”
“What?” You ask in utter surprise, staring at the small gap skeptically. Will you even fit into that? You cross your arms as you glare at Chen, your voice stern and demanding. “What exactly is going on? Why are we running?”
He looks exhausted, and you probably do too, but he looks beyond that. He looks like he’s in pain. He tugs at you to get in, his voice strained when he speaks. “Please, just get in first.”
You stare at him for a bit longer, trying to decide what to do. You don’t have many options here, especially in a forest like this. You sigh before you finally try to climb into the hole. Surprisingly, it’s larger than you anticipated, still leaving a lot of space even when you climbed in. Chen climbs in after you, piling some leaves at the entrance so it hides the hole better. You see a flash of lightning from the gaps the leaves make.
It’s stuffy, cold, dirty and dark here. You feel more claustrophobic than anything. You can barely make out Chen’s silhouette next to you, but thanks to another flash of lightning, you do make him out.
He’s slumped against the dirt walls, his breathing harsh and he’s caked in sweat. You’re tired too from running, but you’re not like that. Something’s definitely wrong with him.
“Chen?” You shake him slightly, hearing him groan in pain. His right hand comes diagonally across his chest to press against the spot a little under his left shoulder. “Chen? Are you okay?”
You’re starting to get seriously worried. What if he’s sick? How will you be able to keep him and yourself alive, to find your way back to town? You feel tears spring to your eyes as you wrap your arms around Chen’s shivering body, hoping you can keep his freezing body warm.
“No, no, no. Don’t sleep. Please don’t sleep. Say something, anything. Please.” You ramble urgently, your mind starting to shut down in panic as you rock him gently, praying he’ll be okay. His body is getting colder by the minute and another rumble echoes in the distance.
You hear a weak chuckle escape him, more like a wheeze than anything.
His voice is soft and hoarse, making your hands shake.
“I’m sorry.”
