This was supposed to be a one-shot as @queermccoy's Christmas gift but, you know, peer pressure and fandom obsession ❤️ I'm wishing you all BuddieTommy fans a happy new year!! And I'm also wishing it to non BuddieTommy fans but, i'm not sure you'll see it lmao.

If Eddie had been asked back in high school what his life would be like, there's no way he'd have been able to describe what he has now.  He'd probably have replied that he would move back to Texas to be with his parents, take over his uncle's ranch, find a nice girl and start a very traditional household. He would have omitted the voice in his head repeating that he didn't give a damn about girls, and that he always hated the family ranch. He wouldn't have admitted to falling in love with California freedom, let alone the male form. Let alone Tommy's.  How long did he think he could fit into the skin of the man he never wanted to be? A creature fabricated to please others. A character he'd been willing to play until the curtain came down on a pitiful, false life. A role learned from scratch, copied from the silhouettes of all the men he'd met since childhood, models chosen for him. Falling in love with Tommy then made him realize that he could never quite fit into the boxes that had been prepared for him. Falling in love with Buck showed him that life is much better outside of them anyway. He wished his old friend had received the same gift.

i've just finished my s7 rewatch and it's kinda so funny to me how much discourse people created over every bucktommy interaction when their whole arc boils down to tommy being patient and vulnerable with buck and showing up for him. like when you are not wearing shipper goggles under the name of "analysis" and don't try to reverse-engineer every word and look and shot with utmost bad faith, that's what it is. a simple and sweet story of a new exciting relationship with a guy who's understanding and willing to show up. literally the two things buck needs from a relationship but never had with his previous love interests. they are kinda sickeningly sweet and well-communicating actually lol

alright but imagine in a few years, buck has been around the block, explored himself, and never really stopped thinking tommy, the one that got away, until he's sat in a gay bar after another failed date, just drinking alone and settling into comfortable silence before he sees tommy on the other side of the bar, gently swaying to the music.

their eyes meet, obviously, and the world stops spinning for a second, and it feels like they're back to that night in buck's loft. they drift towards each other slowly, both of them trying not to make it awkward.

buck tells himself he's just going to say hi, tommy tells himself they'll just catch up over some beers and part ways at the end of the night. except they don't.

they fall right back into the groove of them. they drink and laugh and tell stories, growing closer and closer until their noses almost brush when buck throws his head back to laugh. buck brings his head down again, meeting tommy's eyes and seeing his pupils dilate and his cheeks flush.

buck tilts his head, moving an inch closer.

"tommy..."

"yeah?"

"can i?"

"it's a bad idea."

"that's not an answer."

buck brushes their noses together, "i don't wanna let you go again. so can i?"

tommy swallows hard, nodding. after so many years, he still can't say no to him, or to his stupidly wide eyes, or to his dazzling smile, or his pretty birthmark.

when they finally kiss, it really does feel like that first one. but older somehow. more mature. more practiced, maybe. but still raw and passionate and gentle.

buck forgets about the music, the club, the dancing bodies framing their still ones. he forgets about his horrible date from earlier or the scars that are bound to reopen in the morning.

"i've missed you."

"evan-"

"it doesn't have to mean anything. it can just be casual, i just- i miss you, tommy."

it will never be just casual with you, evan, tommy thinks. "okay," he says instead.

it turns out tommy was right, it was a terrible idea. old wounds reopen and scabs get picked at. but in the morning, when tommy wakes up and looks down at evan in the soft morning glow, he remembers everything he gave up to try to let evan go. he remembers how much he's missed in the meantime. and he remembers evan's words from the night before.

Yeah yeah we all love a healthy relationship but Evan Buckley seeing Tommy out with some guy for the first time since the break-up and he's absolutely losing his shit he's tweaking Eddie is holding him down like a shooter about to go on a rampage Tommy doesn't even know they're there in the same restaurant but his date has a sudden looming sense of doom and he doesn't even know why but he thinks maybe it's best to run anyways

Buck and Tommy reconnecting down the line and Buck misses having Tommy in his life and thinks they could be friends and that friendship might allow Tommy to be more authentic with him without fear of being abandoned (and Buck knows how that feels, has felt it his whole life) and so, "I want to get to know you, Tommy. The real you. If you'll let me." and maybe it's a bad idea because they both still care deeply about each other so being this close but not close enough might hurt them.. but it also might heal them and allow for a deeper connection between them and when they eventually do get back together they'll be stronger for it because there won't be any hiding or shame or fear about not being known or being the wrong thing or not being enough.

I know i already posted about this fic today i'm sorry i feel like i am spamming you all but i got inspired and excited and so i finished my chapter but you can ignore me it's okay 😩

This chapter is full of flashback because i wanted to write more about Buck and Eddie's like during the last 15 years. It's mostly a Buddie chapter but with a lot of EddieTommy yearning, hope you'll like it anyway ❤️

2012. Dear Eddie,  I know I don't need the formalities normally contained in a letter, but writing to you makes me feel like the wife of a soldier who's gone across the Atlantic to save France and is looking after the family farm while waiting for him, and that makes me laugh. By the way, did you know that back in the day, the American government ran campaigns to get people to write to soldiers? The advice was to tell them about their day, how their family was doing, and even the local gossips! The service was called V-mail and cost from 10 to 50 cents. I found a poster on the Internet that said “Keep him posted”. In '45 alone, they logged over 3.3 billion pieces of mail! That's huge, but I guess the troops needed it.  So I'm going to follow the regulations, even if e-mail is much faster than v-mail...

Tommy hitches Buck's leg higher, fucks him harder and that - that - that is what Buck wanted. The sheen of sweat on Tommy's brow, the tick of the muscles in his jaw, his fingers tightening hard enough to bruise, the power behind his thrusts, the flame hardly banked. But there's more, he knows, and after everything they've said to each other tonight, Buck is in the mood to push.

"C'mon," he says, and drags his nails down Tommy's side, hoping to god it leaves a mark. "Show me how you like it, daddy. Show me how I like it."

"God you are fucking impossible," Tommy says through gritted teeth.

Buck loves that he's getting under Tommy's skin, wants to leave barbs, wants it to hurt every time Tommy thinks about him, wants to be the scab Tommy can't stop picking, just like Tommy is for him.

"I let every single one of them fuck me," Buck says, and it's a total lie, it's been more like a fifty-fifty split, but it makes Tommy's eyes go dark with grief and lust in a combination that is terrible and perfect. "You're still my first. And now you're just - just the latest."

"God, shut up."

"Make me."

buck tells tommy he gets jealous easily. buck has a history of relationships with women who already have well-established priorities in their lives, who don't compromise that for him. from the get go he feels like he's competing for affection and being left behind. tommy keeps showing up for buck like it's a given. like he comes first and it's the most natural thing.

tommy tells buck he's jealous of how the 118 has become a family. buck is the beating heart of that family, the glue that keeps them all together, the emotional core.

A Natalia appearance would work because Natalia didn’t really Know Buck she could be like “hey who is this? One of your firefighter friends?” And Buck has a moment of hesitation before he immediately says “uh. This is… my boyfriend: Tommy Kinard.” And Natalia can casually say “oh wow I didn’t know you liked guys!” And Buck can either say “neither did I til I met him!” OR he can say “Yeah, I’m bisexual.”

And then Tommy can look proud and pleased that Buck claimed him in public, turning the three dates into a neat little arc.

i can't with all these "the show is highlighting tommy's jealousy, they're planting seeds that it will cause problems" takes like bffr. he mentioned being envious over the 118's dynamic twice, sure, but in what world (literally how?) would that cause a relationship problem? do yall expect him to be in cahoots with gerrard behind their back and murder buck to take over his life or something?? like even with the hyperbole aside, i genuinely cannot see how they can turn this into relationship drama without going against everything they showed us with tommy so far

“So how do you two know each other?” Tommy asks.

Immediately, Emmerson's eyes shoot to Victor with the kind of laser-focused intensity that could slice clean through diamonds. There's definitely a story there, one that he clearly doesn't want to tell.

Vic, however, seems wholly immune to Emmerson's attempts to burn him to a crisp or beam thoughts into his mind. He just grins that easy grin of his and says, “Oh come on, you trust Tommy, right?”

The look he then directs at Tommy is a different kind of intense, like he's studying him like a bug under a magnifying glass. It makes the back of his neck prickle. Vic tilts his head a little before saying, “He looks like a guy who can keep a secret.”
